I love running, I received awards as an athlete for my accomplishments in running from my nation. For a store dedicated to running, I was really disappointed. Running comes with a lot of joys as well as risks and having people who know what is at risk and truly care is important for your health. That said, all of the shoes I saw had either high heels with too much cushion or would fall apart easily. There wasn't much for me to choose from and the staff, I felt, were really indifferent. Any of the other stores that carry shoes Id say are a better pick if it's selection or staff with experiential knowledge of their products that you're looking for. read more

Super great and knowledgable people working in here. I expected higher prices than what are listed at the big-lot stores, but was pleasantly surprised to find their prices equal to or better than some of the competition in town. In addition, they have a "points" program where after spending a certain amount (was it $200?) you get a portion of that to apply to your next purchase (I think it worked out to about a 10% savings if you buy more than a pair of shoes there). I've now been into Run Flagstaff for two different pairs of shoes. I went in there a couple years back to get a pair of shoes specifically for treadmill running and the person working was able to let me test several different styles of shoe and did a treadmill-based stride analysis--something that I'd never had before. This was extremely helpful in identifying a pair of shoes that were ideal for my specific anatomy. I want back in this past week looking for a new type of trail runner than I'd been using for the preceding years, and got much of the same treatment that I received the visit before. The treadmill was out of service (mechanical? covid? I don't know...) so they weren't able to do a stride analysis, but based on the shoes that I was already using and a brief report of some of the injuries/strains that I'd suffered over the years, they were able to set me up with an ideal shoe for the conditions that I was looking to run. I went out today to test them out, planning on a 5-mile jog and returned home after 15 miles. The shoes felt amazing! I went into a couple other shops casually looking for a new pair of trail shoes over the last couple months, and although the people working the shops were always nice, I have not found any store that hires staff that's so knowledgeable about the subject of running and who know to find the right shoe for your foot. I highly recommend stopping in here! They're a small shop, but what they cram into their small space is impressive to say the least. I'll be returning for sure. read more

I will always buy running shoes and accessories at Run Flagstaff! They have friendly knowledgeable staff, great variety of product, and EXCELLENT customer service! I had to cross over to walking instead of running for a short while because of an injury so I bought a new pair of shoes.......3 months later a piece of the sole of my shoe ripped off. I expect to wear through a pair of running shoes in this time but not when I'm just walking around. So I called the store and asked them how do I send them back to the manufacturer, most businesses response would be to just give me the info and wish me well on my journey........not Run Flagstaff! I just wanted a pair of socks. I went into this new store to buy a pair of Toe Socks. The guy informed me that I could only try on the socks in the bin (which were not the same as the ones i was buying). So, I decided I would just buy the socks and return them. Then the cashier kindly informed me that returns are not allowed. If I did not like the socks all I could receive was store credit. It makes supporting small business difficult if I am treated better by a no name online retailer. read more

Highly professional and accommodating. My podiatrist told me I needed wide toe-bed shoes for my hiking. I was treated with highly professional and respectful care at Run Flagstaff. I bought shoes, but got them home and realized the style would be a problem for me. I have mild arthritis that made putting them on impossible. I returned them the next day and was again treated well by a different salesperson. I exchanged the shoes for a different pair and they are perfect. Simply put, you will never get this level of personable and individual attention to detail from a faceless online store. I have shopped here on multiple occasions and have had time to observe this shop and its employees over months. It is readily apparent that everyone that works here is a highly motivated and accomplished runner themselves and genuinely loves the sport. The more time you spend here the more it feels as if this shop was born out of a love for running. The sheer level of national and world class talent among their staff is amazing and yet they are so friendly and approachable. Their extensive knowledge of running is very useful and their helpfulness is very refreshing when deciding on a new pair of shoes, running apparel, GPS watches, hydration, headlamps for late winter runs, truly anything running related you need you can find at this great little shop all with your specific needs taken squarely into consideration. As for the shopping experience and what you can expect I'll share my son's as I was able to observe it objectively in its entirety. My son needed new running specific shoes for training. All his sports, and his shoes, are all High School ball related like football. This would be his first true running shoes in years and with such an overwhelming amount of choices out there he had very little idea as to what he truly needed, what would be best for his training or with what to even start. When we walked into Run Flagstaff the first thing Vince did after learning he was looking for shoes was ask my son questions as to his current running history, the surface type of most of his runs, current distance, goals and such. After that he had him take off his shoes and they carefully observed his gait. Once they had a very good idea about what he needed they brought out pair after pair of different models from different manufacturers. Each one they had him not only just try it on, but for those pairs that felt best they had him hop on the treadmill to get a better feel for them while running. Seven pairs and an hour later there was no doubt he had found the perfect pair of running shoes. The smile & small chuckle that came from him while on the treadmill told us we had finally hit gold. He loved the way they felt while running and according to him they are his most comfortable pair of shoes because "they just fit my feet so well, I love'em". Now can you save $20 by going online? Yes. Will you ever truly get this epic level of personable individually tailored service from actual highly accomplished experts? Not on your life! How will you truly know you have that perfect pair if you don't try on shoe after shoe while actually running in them? Seven pairs of expertly picked shoes they went through to find the perfect pair. Most will not let you return them if they show any signs of wear. At Run Flagstaff they give you 30 days to run anywhere you want with them. The experience here goes much further then just shopping and asking about the local trails. They regularly open their store after hours for the public to hold run specific classes and workshops from local and visiting experts in a surprisingly varied amount of subjects from nutrition to sports psychology, all free of charge. They also selflessly volunteer their precious time to help at the local Track Practices, Local Races and their help is not limited to just the elites of the sport. They also generously share their knowledge, experience and love of the sport by helping coach the local Step Into Running program that helps beginners reep the benefits of better health and vitality by guding them safely from a sedentary to an a active running lifestyle. Flagstaff has a vibrant running community, and Run Flagstaff is part of the reason why. The owners support local runners in more ways than you can count. But I don't shop here out of a sense of duty. When you walk in, you are taken seriously as a runner no matter what your current level of involvement is in the sport. The store sells a good variety of shoes, clothes, gear and nutritional items. Everyone who works here can tell you anything you need to know about these items. There seems to be a genuine desire to help you buy the exact item that is right for you. If you're looking for a place to get a great deal on a pair of higher-end running shoes, this is not the place for you. However, if you're looking to get a quality gait assessment from store associates who are all runners themselves and the opportunity to try on and try out multiple pairs of high-end running shoes, then this is your store. I was skeptical about buying from here, as I felt that most of the shoes were marked up about 20% from Amazon prices, and I do a lot of Amazon shopping. But...after trying on and returning a bunch of different shoes for a bunch of different fit issues, I decided to bite the bullet and head down to Run Flagstaff. I've never had so much attention in a shoe store before. First off, the gal I was working with had me take off my shoes, then walk away from her and back towards her while she watched what my feet, ankles, and arches were doing. Based on that assessment, she determined that I would do best in a neutral shoe, which surprised me, because up until that point, I had been wearing a high stability shoe. She was actually somewhat appalled when I told her that. That might explain all the blisters that I've been getting since I switched to high stability shoes years ago. She brought me out a bunch of different neutral shoes based on the type of running I'm going to be doing. I'm training for a few half-marathons which will be run on a road surface, so we focused on road shoes. I like to trail run as well, but I didn't currently have any road shoes. After putting on the first pair, she had me hop up on the treadmill and run for a short little bit while she filmed my running stride. She then put the video of my stride up on a large TV so we could watch and analyze my gait together. I was in the store for about 45 minutes, and she took the time to only work with my boyfriend and myself. I ended up buying a pair of shoes there (he bought 2), and yes, I paid about $35 more (including tax) than I would have from Amazon. But...the gait assessment and customer service I got was worth that and more. And I could have gone in there, found out what shoe worked for me, and gone home and ordered it online, but I wanted to support both her efforts and a local business. So yeah, in the future, I probably won't buy every single pair of running shoes from this store, but I definitely will visit them in the future when I'm looking to try out a new style. Oh, and they have connections with few different charities for shoe donations, so bring your old runners in and donate them when you're done with them. :) Kind of off-topic, but the parking lot here is shared with a few other businesses and it's a bit of a disaster to get into and out of...I find it's just easier to park somewhere downtown and walk the couple blocks here. read more

Recently bought a new pair of trail running shoes here and had another great experience. Since moving to Flagstaff I have bought multiple pairs of shoes that have helped me get though marathon training, ironman training, and my first trail 100 miler. Each time they have taken the time to listen to what I'm looking for in my next shoe and have taken the time to help me try out multiple pairs of shoes to make sure that I feel good about the shoes that I'm buying. While the store isn't huge they have a great selection of shoes. They also have a great selection of nutrition products as well as hydration bottles and packs. I have also had good luck with finding really comfortable shorts and shirts here despite being a WXS because while I have tons of race tech tees they rarely fit and are never flattering so sometimes it's worth it to spend the money on a shirt that looks great and fits well. read more

Cool little local store. I am trying to support but it can be hard when I can get better prices on shoes from Sole Sports in Tempe. But I spread the love and buy shoes from time to time so I don't have to go to tempe. Cool place. Mainly shoes and thats it. Little underwhelming and hope it gets better. I have faith it will. Knowledgeable staff which is good. I just wish they had more product. Not a lot but maybe more mens shorts and since winter is coming some winter gear. I don't need a lot to run, barely need a shirt all year round but occasionally I need something and it would be awesome to run down to this place instead of PHX or on-line. You can't beat going into a store in a tourist town like Flagstaff and being able to get an in-depth gait analysis and sound shoe advice from elite runners and running coaches. Since shoes are the most important piece of running clothing you put on, getting them right is vital. Wearing the wrong running shoes can cause a whole spectrum of muscle, joint, and tendon issues. I had been wearing stability shoes for years, only to find that I am a supinator and my stability shoes had been causing me to adjust my gait in a way that caused lower back, hip, knee, and foot pain. Getting into the right shoes has put me back on the trails and renewed my love for running. No, this is not a big box store, so they do not purchase big box store quantities at lower cost. From what I know of retail, small stores pay much more for each pair of shoes than any online or big box retailer to begin with, so their markup is a much smaller percentage above their cost than the big guys'. A $120 (MSRP) pair of shoes might cost a small store owner $90, while a big store pays $60. The big store sells them for $105 and calls it a deal, while the small store sells them for $120 and barely covers overhead. So it isn't a matter of a higher markup; it's a matter of a higher cost. In addition, Run Flagstaff offers expert advice that no big box store can match, at no extra cost. Because this is a high altitude training community, your salesperson may have tried out for the Olympic team, competed in the Olympics, a World Championships, the Boston or New York Marathon, or any other number of high-profile, prestigious races around the globe. They actually know running because they live it, and they know running shoes because they live in them. read more

Stopped in to purchase some new running shoes and was helped by Vince, who I believe is the owner. He was extremely attentive and knowledgable, took assessment of my gait and the pronation in my feet and had me try on at least 6 different pairs of shoes until we found the right pair. I always try to support local business here in Flagstaff and when it's met with excellent customer service- it ends up being a win win for everyone. I love this store and wouldn't go anyplace else for my running shoes, socks, and other gear. The staff members are all knowledgeable about runners of all levels. I am a casual runner with no talent to speak of, and I've always been impressed by how respectful everyone is to me, just as interested in my gait or issues as they are in any of the concerns of amazing runners in Flagstaff. I've had great luck with the shoes they have fit for me, even though my needs have changed a bit over time. I like how much time they are willing to spend with me to get the perfect shoe and the perfect fit. I also like the selection of running clothes and water bottles and fueling options. I've gotten great advice about all of it. I went to Run Flag and got fit, got gait analysis , and got super service and paid less than the mall store with less experienced staff! I'd never go anywhere else for my running needs. Flagstaff is so fortunate to have its very own specialty running store in a town of this size -- not only that, but it's staffed with a group of people who care about runners of all abilities and use their expertise to outfit everybody in just the right shoes & gear for their needs. I cross over between road and trail races constantly and no matter what I'm training for, there's always somebody there who can recommend what I need in terms of shoes, nutrition, hydration and other gear. You just can't get that kind of connection or service when you buy online. Not only that, but I appreciate how involved Run Flagstaff is in the community -- completely supportive of so many nonprofit organizations and running events in the area. They are good people who do everything they can to help make Flagstaff a healthier, stronger place to live. You also can't buy that kind of support anywhere else.
