Amazing. Best restaurant in Bloomington. Brilliant breakfast options all day and scrumptious entrees for lunch and dinner. They serve amazing coffee and plenty of mixed drinks, beer, wine, and lots of tea varieties. I loved the smoked salmon with capers on a bagel, chocolate chip pancakes, and a side of potatoes as breakfast options. For lunch/dinner the pan seared salmon with veggies and smashed potatoes is amazing. One glass of mimosa is $5 or get a pitcher for $12 - equivalent to 5ish cups. So worth it. The place is open until midnight, has wifi, and serves coffee, so it's best that you work here on homework instead of one of those silly coffee shops that Clara at 10pm or 11pm. read more

We've tried to go to Runcible Spoon so many times, only to find a really long wait. We managed to get in today and it's as good as my husband remembered. I ordered a Bellini (which was huge), while my husband had a Bloody Mary. We enjoyed them both. I ordered a build an omelette with bacon, onion, and feta. It comes with toast, which I didn't realize, so I also ordered a half home fries. So. Much. Food. Seriously... this is four breakfasts. Next time I wouldn't get onion, but the bacon was really flavorful and crisp without being burned. My husband devoured his salmon croissant bennie, plus some of my omelette. Cute little place with a great atmosphere. Can get a bit crowded sometimes. Try to hit it for brunch around 10 or 11am on a week day to avoid the crowd. Awesome breakfasts. Never been for any other meal. Always order the eggs Benedict. Also had the corned beef hash which is decent but eggs Benedict is the way to go. Mimosas are a must. You can order them by the single glass or by the pitcher. I recommend the pitcher if you know what's good for you. Price is fair. Its a bit high but the price is reflected in the quality of food and service. I went for the first time today, we were sat quiet quickly to my surprise because there were a lot of people in line. The inside is much bigger than I thought and had a rustic vibe to it. The service was nothing but spot on. The food however was mediocre. The chicken was very good and tender, however the mashed potatoes were dry and the vegetables didn't have much flavor. The ambience is eclectic and very welcoming, the staff is very friendly, and the food is absolutely yummy. I'm originally from East Tennessee so when I see biscuits and gravy on a menu, that's my go to order! I had the biscuits and gravy, a side of bacon, and a half order of homefries. The portions are very generous as I thought I had been brought a full order of homefries! Seriously, come here hungry! Service was so slow. We waited 30 minutes to order our food. Waiter was rude and never apologized for the wait. We never got syrup for our pancake and waited 10 min for some. All the food was cold and the Eggs Benedict didn't come with poached eggs. Presentation of the food was sloppy the hollandaise sauce was none existent and spilled all over my plate. Went here on a Tuesday for an early lunch. The food was great as usual and the service too. I had a pancake, O.J., hot chocolate, and a veggie Benedict. The Benedict would have been better if the English muffin had been toasted, but that is a minor complaint. My sister had a specialty coffee, O.J., and eggs Benedict. She loved her food as well. Unfortunately, the spoon is really showing it's age. The seats were ripped. The plants out front were all dead and left out for all to see as were half open bags of salt no doubt for the recent snows. Will probably go back, but it's getting to be a real eye sore. read more

On our way heading to Southern Indiana, my boyfriend and I stopped at the Runcible Spoon Cafe in Bloomington for some brunch. This place is in an old refurbished house in the heart of Bloomington. They have a beautiful outdoor patio out front that was full as it was a beautiful morning to eat outside. We sat inside so we didn't have to wait for a table. The inside has much original charm including wood paneled walls. The table we sat at was a booth on one side and a chair on the other. The booths were pretty worn and the seat cushion wobbled but I made do. The food was very tasty. My boyfriend got an omelet with corned beef and he said it was super cheesy. I opted for the loaded smoked salmon bagel. They were both very good and portions were substantial for the prices. Our server was bubbly and cheerful, which I always appreciate. She makes sure to ask questions so our meals are prepared just the way we like them. Definitely a cute place to visit when you're in Bloomington. read more

We have been long time customers of the spoon but the past few times have been subpar. The quality has gone downhill. My partner and I paid $50 for BREAKFAST. I wouldn't mind paying that price if the food was decent but it was sloppy and not tasty. Sadly, I would have been happier going to Cracker Barrel even though I want to give my money to a small business instead. We also heard the cook say several times that he "doesn't give a F**k" which is already obvious to the customers eating his food. The price does not match the quality. read more

Great cappuccinos and the food was hot, fresh and tasty. My husband had the Tex mex omelette. He thought it was okay. I had the open face egg sandwich with bacon and it was delicious. The home fries are nicely seasoned. We got them plain because of picky eaters with us but I'm betting with onions and peppers they really rock. My daughter had the French toast and (we got our food to go) we forgot to get syrup so it was a little dry but good bread. All in all it was a yummy breakfast and the coffee hit the spot. Claustrophobic and the case of gastroenteritis I got from eating here was not fun. Not the way you want to spend a weekend visiting your kid. I was the only one in my party who got sick so it was likely what I ate vs systemic kitchen issues but I wish someone had warned me. Overly stuffy inside and they couldn't cram another table in if they tried. Like you will have to slide your table to the side for you to get up and out in order not to take the food from the table next to you with your backside. This is a really darling spot in Bloomington, Indiana! Nestled in the heart of the college town, this really offers homey vibes in the midst of the larger chains in the area. I went on a breezy fall morning so we were able to enjoy the outside seating area which was nothing short of lovely. There were plants that surrounded us, umbrellas over the tables, and pretty weather. It was really a treat! My friends kept urging me to check out the inside because the decor is very eclectic​ as an old home might be. However, one restroom for the joint which isn't ideal. Use the restroom before you come or you'll be cramped up waiting near someone's table! Eek! The food was good!! I ordered a side of their veggies which were surprisingly delightful. They were seasoned to perfection. A little cold when served which was a bummer but good nonetheless. I also ordered a side of french toast and yuuuum, yuuum, yuum! My experience here sadly couldn't have been worse...I came here hoping to eat food and never got food...like, there was one job. Backstory, I got here at 8:45am on a Sunday with a friend, seated immediately. Took 10 mins to get waters and place coffee orders, when we ordered our coffees we also put in our breakfast orders. My friend got an entree and a side of French toast. I ordered 3 sides: a pancake, sausage patties, and a half order of home fries. Quite a bit of time passes and the waiter comes back with food...my friend's meal. He looks at me and goes "didn't you order something?", why yes, I ordered a meal, I didn't just come here to watch my friend eat? But it's fine, mistakes happen. I repeat my order and he says it will be ten minutes. Much more than 10 minutes pass. My friend has finished her meal. The waiter hasn't checked on us at all, hasn't asked if we need more coffee or water, hasn't apologized for my food being MIA or assured us it's almost ready. So I have to flag him down. I ask what the deal is. He says there are still a few tickets ahead of mine and if I want to eat I'll need to wait 15 more mins and he can offer 50% off. At this point it is 9:45, we have been here an hour, my friend is done eating. We ask how on earth it's possible that there are orders ahead of mine when my meal should have been submitted at the same time as my friends?? And it's only sides! He can't really explain it. I say I don't want to stick around for the food, but can he comp my coffee drink at least?? He says no! So I asked for the manager, literally first time in my life I've done that, and she was lovely and comped the coffee drink, apologized, and corrected a billing issue for my friend since the waiter had added an extra side to her bill. So all in all, a long, terrible experience in which I literally didn't even get a chance to eat the food. Truly a bizarre experience. I understand mistakes are made and I've been a server before, forgetting to submit a ticket happens. But to just shrug and not try to make it right was mind boggling. I've been here multiple times while visiting friends in Bloomington, and while I can appreciate it as an iconic spot for them, I've not had the greatest experiences here. I will say the food is pretty good, especially the giant pancakes, but in my opinion is a little overpriced for what you get. Maybe it is just personal preference, but I also am not a fan of the coffee they serve. The main way this place is lacking has to do with the atmosphere and service. Personally, I don't enjoy feeling like I'm eating in somewhere that is musty/dirty and overly crowded, which is how it has felt for me the past few times I've gone. The service is also generally lackluster. If you're looking for something that feels old-timey and kitschy, this place is for you, but it's not what I'm looking for in a brunch spot. read more

We absolutely love the Spoon. They are famous for all day long breakfasts-good tasty food.  Great cappuccinos-and they serve breakfast, lunch or dinner and have extensive outdoor areas both in the front or the back.  One of our favorites is the dessert-you can get 3 choices of the dessert for a discounted price-desserts are fabulous to me. Key point is that their wines by the glass are a better value than other restaurants(they discount better wines- not the normal retail mark-up).  So one can go to the Spoon and find out all the good wines you like and later we buy them at Big Red.  You will enjoy life more after a few glasses of vino.    They have a lot of good beers on tap- great coffee and expressos and tea.  This was originally just a coffee house in the 1970's that developed into so much more later.  Service is spotty on game days- but generally  good the servers are friendly and attentive. 3.5 stars! read more

Ate here on a Saturday for brunch and was pretty disappointed with the experience. The wait: not terrible, maybe 15-20 minutes The food: underwhelming. They don't put mix ins INSIDE pancakes on the weekend, only on top. However on weekdays they put it inside, as seen in many photos. Total assembly line approach for weekends which is disheartening. Pancakes themselves were very forgettable- dense and the first batch came out barely warm. On top of that, bacon was burnt and Hash browns were flavorless and mushy. Coffee: first cup was solid. I was a little surprised that it did not come with some type of potato because most of the places I order eggs Benedict from do have potatoes as part of the meal. Runcible has been my favorite Btown breakfast spot ever since I moved here. They use fresh ingredients and have a breakfast menu with some unique options. This is not, by any means, your classic Indiana breakfast diner. The menu is small and they don't offer many of the classic breakfast combo meals people expect. Don't let this scare you away! I have probably eat at least 20 of their egg rounds in my time here (an open face egg sandwich - prepare for the most gooey cheese of your life!). Honestly the diversity of the menu encourages me to stray from my regular order. Lately I've been enjoying their smoked salmon dishes, particularly the smoked salmon hash. In terms of Lox, Runcible is the king in Bloomington. I don't know what kind they use, but it is tender and perfectly flavored. A hidden gem is the Runcible Dinner menu as well. I don't know of any other restaurant in town where you can order a beautiful filet of salmon for around $10! The dinner menu is essentially priced the same as breakfast, which makes it such a steal. I can only think of one dinner option they have that is over $10. As always, can't wait til my next visit! NOTE: The service is great and they are all adorable. Definitely fit in with the vibe. What a lively atmosphere for the quintessential college town brunch! Cold windy morning didn't deter us from enjoying the outside patio with table upon table of pitchers of bloody Mary's and mimosas. Food presented in good sized portions, we left full for sure, but the food was a little bland and salt and pepper shakers were nowhere to be found to assist in the problem. The inside housed a slightly more refined crowd and the decor was warm with wooden walls of bookshelves and art. The outdoor crowd was pretty loud, all just-turned 21ish, with a minimum of 3 bottles of champagne per college-guy flanked table. Ahh to be young again! Headed here for birthday breakfast with my two friends after seeing it highly rated for breakfast in Bloomington. We arrived at 9:30am and got a seat outside right away. It was packed inside and by 10am the outside was totally packed too! The food was Ok. Nothing amazing. We got the smoked salmon eggs benedict, veggie eggs benedict and french toast. The french toast was super good. The egg benedict's were just OK. I ordered a caramel macchiato which was really forgettable. Since it was my birthday we got the afternoon tea which consisted of our choice of three desserts and coffee or tea. They didn't have all the desserts in their menu available (I really wanted the creme brûlée!) so we went with a linzer tart, chocolate cake and cheesecake. I think dessert was the most disappointing personally, they seemed like slices you could buy from any grocery store. The chocolate cake was actually like a dense mousse cake. Atmosphere was good though, and we did enjoy our time. I wouldn't say it's the best breakfast in Bloomington though. read more

We went on a Saturday morning and had to wait less than 15 minutes, which was awesome. Lots of great breakfast options and the food was all generally good with very generous portions. Can't go wrong with a pitcher of mimosas either. Nothing stood out or surprised us, it was just good solid cooking. Definitely the place to go if you want a great omelette. read more
