Roasted beet salad with feta dressing. The dressing was outstanding.

salad was great! The fish was perfectly grilled and the staff couldn't have been more kind. Definitely pricey.

Food was great. Service was to the point. And the place itself is super confusing. Is it sit down ? Service? A bit unclear. I had to ask. Then there's wine and beer and coffee in the daytime. Decor is very much in between a cafe and fancy restaurant. Which is obviously quite drastic which causes my confusion. You see bus boys brining the food out to the front, to allow the person running the front to bring to the tables. Why not have the bussers bring the food to the tables. Seems silly the cashiers are doing multiple jobs.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere and interesting decor. The service is great. The pretzel was somewhat dry. The arancini was good, a bit dense, the sauce was flavorful. The squid ink pasta was slightly overcooked, both the pasta and the squid and the sauce didn't have a lot of flavor. Overall the food was fine but nothing was memorable.

Upon coming into the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was the nice modern design and ambiance. I ordered the mortadella sandwich at the front, and the service was great. The workers were super kind. After sitting down, my sandwich came soon after. The sandwich is a perfect size for lunch, filled with fresh ingredients, huddled in soft foccacia-like bread. The ratios of the components were also perfect. It was definitely quite expensive -- $16! But I have gotten used to these prices in the city. It was a great spot since there was a lot of seating available, but it is not a place that I would go out of the way to visit again.

Grabbed some coffee and snacks from Runner & Stone on Saturday morning. An odd spot that needs more direction and simplification. Quality: It is a bit confusing as to what Runner & Stone wants to be. Several guests in line were attempting to order things they saw online that don't exist. Each menu in the place also seemed to have a different set of items listed. In the end I ordered what I could point to. My Latte was fine and pretty affordable. I had two snacks a Cheddar And Olive Pastry and an Almond Croissant. Again both fine, the Almond Croissant was a bit better than the savory option. Neither however would have me running back. Quantity: Standard size drinks and snacks. Value: $4 for a Latte. $4-$7 for Pastries. Ambiance: Runner & Stone is a cafe and bakery in Gowanus. I think it has had many different iterations from before COVID to now, but has settled into a coffee shop and bakery format. They have a large ordering counter, which seems too big for the space. A few tables near the front window, high-tops along the left wall, and a more tables towards the back provide just enough seating for the few guests that stay. The space is dim and not ideal for working or reading. Crowd: A line formed, but it was mostly because of the speed of service. Drinks took a long time and there was not even offers to warm up pastries. Service: Friendly to a fault, spent a lot of time chatting with customers and the line started to go out the door. Parking: A decent area to find a spot.

It has the kind of cozy neighborhood vibe that makes you want to relax and savor your meal. Our server, Annie S., was fantastic--friendly, attentive, and very easy to talk to. Her service struck the perfect balance and truly enhanced our experience. We shared the Sailor Gin Martini, which was beautifully chilled, bright, aromatic, and finished with a lovely dry note. It was refreshing and absolutely delicious. For our appetizer, we shared the quiche. It was so good that we completely forgot to take a photo before finishing it! For our entrées, I ordered the cod and my husband had the burger without the bun. The cod was honestly one of the best I've ever had--perfectly cooked, incredibly fresh, and full of flavor. The pea purée that accompanied it was equally delicious and complemented the fish beautifully. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his burger, and I couldn't resist helping myself to some of his fries, which were excellent as well. Every part of this meal was enjoyable, from the drink and food to the warm hospitality and comfortable atmosphere. Needless to say, we both left very happy.

We ordered two appetizers with distinctive sauces, and when our plates weren't cleared after the first course, we made what I thought was a very reasonable request for fresh plates. That simple request seemed to send our server over the edge. At a restaurant of this caliber, I would expect fresh plates and silverware to be brought automatically between courses. Instead, the staff insisted that we keep using the same silverware throughout the meal. Later in the evening, I sat with an empty cocktail glass for quite a while. I tried making eye contact with our server, who appeared to avoid our table by turning her back and refusing to look over. I suspect she noticed me in her peripheral vision because she abruptly said, "I'll be with you in just a moment." I wasn't waving her down or trying to interrupt her. I simply wanted a wine list, which could have been dropped off in seconds for me to browse while she continued helping other tables. Instead, after I asked, she prioritized several other tasks before eventually bringing it over. At one point, my friends joked that "the food is great in Brooklyn, but the service is rude." That honestly made me sad to hear because it doesn't reflect the Brooklyn I've known over the past 14 years. I've always found it to be warm and welcoming. I'm not sure what happened to Sailor, but this experience couldn't have been more different from my first visit, as reflected in my previous review. Before dismissing this as someone being overly critical, it's worth noting that I worked in the service industry for 17 years. I know restaurants get busy, and I don't expect perfection. But basic hospitality, attentiveness, and professionalism should still be part of the experience, especially at a restaurant of this quality.

When I walked in, I noticed two available seats at the bar. A Caucasian woman took one of the seats, and I sat in the other. Moments later, an employee asked me to move because the woman's friend was supposedly on the way. Now, I've always understood bar seating to be first come, first served. What made the situation even more frustrating was that I wasn't even given the opportunity to order a drink or remain seated until the friend actually arrived. Instead, I was immediately asked to give up my seat for someone who wasn't even present. As a Black man, on Juneteenth of all days, the optics of the situation did not sit well with me. The music was Black. The atmosphere was Black. The culture being celebrated was Black. Yet it felt like preference was being given to someone who wasn't even there over a paying customer who was. Maybe that wasn't the intent, but perception matters, and the experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend this establishment. Avoid it at all cost! Zero STARS

Side note, we ordered the same exact items off the menu as we did a year ago...only one thing was missing which was the biscuits with the flavored butter jam. Friendly waitress greeted us and sat us immediately. Menu's came out and they recommended a pizza and burger. We agreed and ordered. Place started to pick up and get busy immediately after we ordered. Food came out pretty quickly. We each had a burger. Not a lot of options on the menu but we all tried the emily burger. It was worth it. Think, juicy and with an amazingly unique taste. The ingredients were high quality, the burger cooked to perfection. The table also split the modern pizza (I think). Not sure what to expect from this one but turns out it was perfect, unique and delicious. The cheese taste really shined through. Overall, we were super happy with the food here. Greetings all, it's been a while but here I am. Let's talk about Emily a quant pizza restaurant…read morethat you could easily walk pass and not know what they sold. Today however it wasn't pizza that brought me here, it was the famous Emmy Burger. To begin with the atmosphere of the restaurant is dim lighting a few tables with a reasonable sized bar in the middle of the room. They also have an open kitchen concept where just past the bar you can see the cooks working. My server Inda was polite and knowledgeable about the menu. My burger was excellent, normally I don't eat my burger with a knife and folk, but in this case with all the cheese and sauce oozing down the sides, not to mention the caramelized onions, it was necessary. (If I were home I wouldn't mind having burger juices running down my arm, but other people were eating in the restaurant also). The tiny pickles which I can't remember the name of were an added treat to the burger. I decided to order mine with the loaded fries. Just imagine the ground burger with all the toppings covering french fries and add melted white cheese. Since I was alone I didn't order a pizza because how would I eat it all, but next time I will try the pizza. I don't mind paying extra for a burger when it's aged beef and the taste is great. I definitely recommend this location. There is a fast food burger restaurant next door to Emily's but I can't imagine there burgers compare. I will try them another time and let you know. That's all for now, see you on my next review.
