    Original Runza Sandwich

The last time I was in Nebraska I had Runza to go and we ate back ate our hotel and it was just ok. I gotta say eating a fresh one makes a big difference and the ranch sauce was surprisingly good. My girlfriend is fom Nebraska and said we need to eat it fresh to appreciate it and I would say this is true. The last time I had a cheese one, but this time I went OG. The place was super clean and welcoming. The SOBE pomegranate drink that had at the fountain machine was pretty darn good that I had to get multiple refills.

When you come to Nebraska, Runza is a staple that you must get. We stopped in for lunch. I got the spicy jack and fringes. So tasty and everything was fresh. Never disappointed.

Not my favorite Runza. The chili was way too spicy, and the employees were efficient, but not particularly friendly. I appreciate efficiency, but a robot could do as well. Kind of a shame; I like the Runza locations that have employees who care. And I need food that's not so spicy. This was inedible.

Runza, Culver's, and Cracker Barrel are possibly the only chains that I love in the Midwest. I think of Runza as the White Castle of Nebraska. The sandwiches, a type of pastry filled with onions, cabbage, and ground beef....it's like a homemade Hot Pocket!! Runza has pulled up, big time, since me first falling in love with these tasty sandwiches in 2008. Nothing was better than getting a runza and a side of french onion dip with crinkled fries. But, when I went this summer the menu had changed. They now had a Asian style runza with sriracha, crispy noodles, and a ginger sauce. They had 4-6 different new runzas and if none of those appealed to you, you could build your own. I got so excited that I ordered 4 of their new ones and concocted one of my own. I took them across the street to, Bottomless Glass, share with folks listening to the band, R-Style. The runzas just made the night even better! If ever you are in NE go to Runza!

Excellent food. Extremely clean kitchen. Never a bad sandwich or fries. Onion rings are to die for.

Sorry I think Runza is over-rated. I've tried the meat pasty and the meat & cheese. (Fart noise) No thank you.

Great fast service. Accommodated a very large order for a soccer team and had it ready on time.

For starters, we had the bacon-wrapped shrimp, which came with mushrooms on the side. It didn't look particularly appetizing when it arrived, but it was absolutely delicious. The mushrooms were especially good--salty without being overpowering, which I really enjoyed. To drink, I tried the sangria. It didn't particularly stand out, but it was still enjoyable. For my entrée, I chose the whiskey ribeye cooked medium-rare, and it came out exactly how I like it. The steak was cooked perfectly and was very flavorful. The salad bar wasn't huge, but it had a nice variety of toppings to choose from. The atmosphere is rustic with very dim lighting, and there were a few TVs throughout the restaurant as well. It does get quite loud when it's busy, though. Our waitstaff was attentive without being overbearing, which I appreciated. Overall, it was a good experience, and I will definitely be back.

But I'm not a huge fan. First, it's really, really dark and really, really noisy. Not a place for a conversation, especially if you are dining with kids. The salad bar is, well, meh. The tastiest part is the super sweet poppy seed dressing. As far as the stars of the show go, I've eaten several of their steaks. They've all been well marinaded and perfectly cooked, but the ribeye and strip had a lot of exterior gristle that should have been trimmed off before grilling. Meals come with a baked potato, and other sides are available. I wish creamed spinach and corn were options (it is the Cornhusker state, after all), but those are just my preferences. We made reservations weeks ago (we knew the College World Series would be in town) so we did not have the 2+ hour wait that less organized folks were complaining about. We were seated right away - yay, OpenTable! Service was very attentive, and our meal's timing was impeccable. Omaha has a lot of choices for carnivores, and The Drover is a long way from the worst I've tried. I'm just not not sure it's where I'll get my steak fix in the future.

My wife and I both ordered the Everett's #2 with pulled chicken, coleslaw, and BBQ sauce. Everything just worked together perfectly. The chicken was tender, the slaw added the right crunch, and the bun tied it all together. It was one of those sandwiches where after the first bite you just look at each other and know you made the right choice. We also ordered the Saucy Rossy wings and they were the perfect heat level for both of us. Not so mild that they're boring and not so hot that you're suffering. Pro tip: get them fried and grilled. The extra texture and flavor are absolutely worth it. My wife is a total Brussels sprouts snob and she was absolutely in love with theirs. The funny part is that I'm usually not much of a Brussels sprouts person, but I kept asking for more off her plate. That alone should tell you how good they were. The fries were okay. Nothing that stole the show, but nothing to complain about either. The service wasn't the best during our visit, but they also had a 30-person table they were dealing with, so it was completely understandable. Even with that, the food was so good that it's already a top 3 meal for my wife. We'll definitely be thinking about those sandwiches, wings, and Brussels sprouts until we're back, and I don't think that'll take very long.

I noticed a lot of newer eateries and businesses in Aksarben since the last time I was there, so hopefully some of them stick around a while. Anyhoo, on to Crispy Burger! First off, the interior is bright and colorful, with a lot of orange, red, and then an accent wall of black and white geometric shapes. It's a super welcoming vibe! One thing that's kind of weird is that the building (and Yelp and Google) says Crispy Chicken, but all the wrappers and signs say "Crispy Burger" which was confusing. The smells inside when you walk in make your mouth water, so get ready to over order if it's your first time here (we definitely did!) They have a LOT of fried things, like fried chicken, mozzarella sticks, popcorn chicken, etc. So this definitely is not an every day place if you are looking for health food. We ordered the cheese sticks to start and they were enormous. Definitely shareable between a few people, as each cheese stick is like an appetizer in itself! I ordered the nuggets and fries, and they were really well breaded and pretty large. You can choose from about 1500 sauces for dipping (ok, maybe more like ten, but that's still a lot!) The fries were great too, that come as a side in your box. My husband had the bone in chicken wings combo, and he was very pleased with his choice. Gigantic wings, with fries, a biscuit, and mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. Now is Crispy Burger fine dining or somewhere you'd go on a date night? Definitely not. But it's nice, tasty food, for a pretty inexpensive price. So I would definitely recommend trying it out next time you're in the Aksarben area!
