We've been meaning to eat here since we moved to Omaha and finally did. The restaurant itself had kind of a Twilight Zone vibe of being frozen in the past and everyone was just a little weird, but I thought that could be part of its charm. The food was really disappointing, especially at $30 for 2 fries and burgers and 1 drink. The patties were impossibly tiny. I got the "Big Bronco" and it was the equivalent of a single cheeseburger at McDonalds with some sauce. The burger was also very bland and tasteless, but it was tender at least. The fries were pretty good, but cut into tiny bits that were so annoying to pick up and eat, we eventually gave up. They were also served directly on the tray instead of in packaging and we wondered more than once how often and well the trays are cleaned before you're eating directly off of them. While we did finish our food, we both left still hungry due to the small burger size and ended up having to make some more food at home. All in all, I'm glad we tried it since it's considered an Omaha staple, but I certainly wouldn't try it again. read more

I've been eating here since the '80s, and it's always been one of my favorites. Back in the day, I'd grab lunch during work breaks and sometimes compete with a coworker over whose takeout bag was more transparent from the grease--classic. This was also the first place I ever had a cheeseburger without ketchup. It felt strange at the time, but now I never ask for ketchup on my burger. Instead, I drown my tray in ketchup from the pump and dip the whole thing. Still my go-to move. I love the fries, and for some reason those little salt packets are oddly satisfying. Their breakfast used to be legendary--some of the best fast food breakfast in town. I'm not sure if they still serve it, but I hope they do. I also really like their chicken, and my dad's a big fan of the pork tenderloin. Every time I walk into Broncos, I still expect the smell of cigarette smoke. Back in the '80s, it felt like everyone smoked--people would eat burgers with those little tin ashtrays on the table. Bronco's has been an Omaha staple for decades, and it's easy to see why! It's the most iconic greasy spoon burger joint, slinging burgers and fries, you could ever imagine. I have eaten there many times via drive through and ordering/eating inside. And I definitely recommend eating inside so it's fresh and hot. The second it gets lukewarm or cold in the car on the way home, it loses all the fresh gooey tastiness. The ambiance inside is very diner-ish with grey, white, and red booths and tables. It's also great for kids, as they have a wall of pinball machines from the likes of Dr. No, The Mandalorian, and Hot Wheels. The drive-through is a 3/5 and the dine-in quality is a 5/5, which I will detail now. You place your order at the front counter and they call your number/name when it's your time to grab your food. The service is pretty good, but they are so busy usually that it can get crazy and they are pretty rushed in the order taking (but we've never had an issue with the order being incorrect) We always get the Double Cheeseburger with no onions, and add Bronco Sauce. I cannot stress this enough - get the Bronco Sauce ON the burger, if you want that, so it all melds together and gets warm on there with the other ingredients. You can get Bronco Sauce on the side for dipping fries, but absolutely get it ON the burger. The Bronco Sauce is pretty similar to Thousand Island dressing. The sauce, and melted American cheese, and pickles all work together so well. The Big Bronco burger is similar to a McDonald's Big Mac - with the special sauce, lettuce, and tomato. But the Bronco's version is a little better, in my opinion, because it feels more "real" like a burger your dad would make at a family gathering LOL We also have ordered the Garlic Toast randomly a few times, because that's one of my husband's favorite items ever. It is like Texas Toast style, but not very garlicky, and actually more buttery flavored. They have a Facebook liker counter on the front counter top, and you can see it change as likes come in (we did it and watched change LOL). That counter was at 13,730 when we were there last, so that tells you how popular they are in the Omaha menagerie of restaurants. So if you're looking for a classic burger in Omaha, stop into Bronco's, but only if you have time to eat inside and experience it in all its greasy glory. read more

Recently I ordered a hamburger and pork tenderloin (which I used to love) only to be disappointed. I could barely find the hamburger and the tenderloin was a small over processed overcooked phony tenderloin. Then I ate at Zesto's and had the best tenderloin I've had in a long time! Was hopefully optimistic this place was going to be good and well, it just wasn't. Wanted to try the Omaha staple while on a road trip and unfortunately just had a more expensive than it should be grease fest. Burgers were very average and the pork tenderloin sandwich was extremely dry. Fries (both regular and Laredo (waffle)) were 100% soggy and as you can see by the bag with grease soaking through, execution was definitely lacking here. A Bizarre and Evil Experience ---- Got to the 120th St. Bronco's drive thru at about five 'til ten tonight and ordered a hamburger combo for my wife and I to split. Got our drink and then waited... and waited... and finally the food got to the window. The girl asked if we wanted mustard or ketchup; good thing I said no, because there were no less than TWENTY packs of mustard on top in the bag. I backed up to return the mustard we didn't want and then my wife noticed that the fries were cold. So we returned the mustard and fries and while waiting decided to check out the burgers which were barely warm themselves. We opened the wrapper and - what the hell - both were just drenched in mustard! I told the guy to just give back my money because they obviously couldn't be trusted with food. He apologized for the fries and said that because they were going to close that they gave us what had been sitting there rather than make fresh. What's the deal with the mustard? I asked; he said he had no idea. I'm left to guess that crew members after a long day decided to screw with the last customer. I've been coming to Bronco's since the early '60s. I've never had or seen such a ridiculous, weird, stupid experience here or few other fast-food joints. read more

It's not a corpor chain, it's not a fancy place....what it exceeds in is the atmosphere of a time gone by....the only problem one would have is what yo pick cause everything on the menu is great...and the fries....even Tony Tiger would say...ggggrrrreeeeaaaatttt!!!! and that goes for the food. We stopped at Bronco Burger for a couple of small hamburgers not being very hungry after Christmas eating. Placed my order and they said 5 or 10 minutes for two burgers. Drive through was the only other customer traffic. I thought so much for fast food but maybe good things are worth waiting for. Took over 10 minutes and we got our bag and took it home. Was expecting something at least as good as Mickey D's. Mine was 50 cents more because it was called a Hickory burger (actually just a regular burger with a dab of BBQ Sauce on it). But never have I seen anything like my wife's burger - you could see though it. No value in this place. I always admired them for competing with the big franchises but now I just don't know what keeps them in business. Never again. read more

We visited the drive-thru for an evening snack. The person taking our order was really friendly. We had picked out what we wanted before we pulled up to order. One thing we were ordering was 2-piece chicken, but were informed they only had one piece of chicken available and any other pieces would require a long wait. She was helpful in giving us some options to actually have the one piece of chicken as a side to the other combo we were ordering, etc. Our order came out pretty quickly (it was pretty busy that night). We were suprised when we got back to our hotel to eat that were were given 2 pieces of chicken, which was nice, but it would have been nice to know and we could have ordered the other sides we wanted to go with the chicken meal etc. I don't understand why she couldn't have stuck her head out of the window and told us "hey we found another piece of chicken, did you want to get your original order?" The chicken was not very good. I guess if you grew up eating it you probably like it, but we didn't find it to be that enjoyable. I guess overall the food was edible, but not great. Someone else in their review calls them "wildly mediocre" and I would share that opinion. I wouldn't bother going back, but it was edible and probably some other ordering options would be better if there was a next time. read more

To update my previous review. I stopped at Broncos today and the fries were like I remembered them. I ate them all before I got home. The Big Bronco was very good. I thought it was a little high priced, but anymore that's not surprising. I have driven by this hamburger place for many years without having a reason to stop by and see if the food is decent. Today was the day, especially since the DQ down the street didn't want any customers using their drive through system. After abandoning DQ, I purposely drove down Pacific and sought out Bronco's Hamburgers. The line was long (which was a good sign) and moving constantly. I ordered a safe choice of 2 hamburgers, fries, and drink combination. The person at the window was very pleasant and asked if I wanted any additional condiments. The hamburger was very good, the fries were on the greasy side but the flavor of the hamburger made up for this issue. Overall, I am glad I made this stop. The service has always been fast and correct when I've been to this location (even for the lunch rush). I usually grab the two cheeseburger meal out the patty melt meal. It's wildly mediocre and that's why I loved it. This is exactly what it holds itself out to be, a quick and cheap meal with no frills. The fries are natural and a bit soft compared to the highly engineered modern French fry we are used to, but it's real food and they have their own appeal. The burgers are unassuming, a bit under seasoned and prepared slightly in advance to place speed over freshness. The food comes out quick and cheap and there is plenty of it. Unlimited ketchup and soda and self service make it the perfect spot to spend $10 and eat and leave in under 10 minutes. Want gourmet, this isn't it.
