    #4 Tofu Wendale

Went here tonight for an early dinner. I've never had Bahn Mi before and was pleasantly surprised. It was very yummy! My partner got the #3 Chicken Lemongrass combo and I got the #4 tofu wendale combo and they were both great. We also got the special of the day, goyza which was good, I could've eaten so much more. My partner got the Cajun fries as a side (delish) and I got a salad (nothing special). The combos also came with canned sodas. The server was super knowledgeable and helpful when navigating the menu. We will definitely come back!

Such a perfect meal for a cold and rainy day touring IU's campus!!! My daughter is a huge fan of Pho but often can't find a vegetarian version. Rush Hour had SEVERAL options for her. The Pho was warm, comforting, and had a delicious flavor. Plenty of toppings and hot sauce made for an ideal lunch. We also shared veggie fried rice (yum) and a Vietnamese Iced Coffee. If she ends up at IU I see many meals here in our future!

Horrendous quality in 2024. Ordered the Pho and the soup was very obviously just watered down. The meatballs were actually frozen Italian meatballs from the store instead of the Vietnamese style ones you'd expected. Not even an exaggeration. They actually are. Beef was overcooked and were clumped in balls. The restaurant used to be alright before, but this is just sad now. I ordered doordash, but while I might expect less food or it being cold, the quality should at least be the same. Never ordering from this place again. Also they have severely reduced the amount of food you get. I'm not sure what changed, but dang.

A hidden gem! The pork banh mi w/ korean was so yummy and ordering at the counter & takeout was easy and fast.

We started with the ttuk kko chi which were rice cakes covered in a gochujang sauce. The cakes were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. The sauce it was in was amazing, balancing the heat from the gochujang with some sweetness. Next, we got the Korean fried chicken (they were out of KFC wings). I remember the sauce being a little more red last time, but it was still good. Super crispy exterior and no excess batter so we just tasted the juicy chicken. The two entrees we got were the spicy chicken and jaeyuk. The spicy chicken was flavorful and tender. Along with the chicken, the veggies were stir fried nicely and coated in the broth. The jaeyuk was a little better with the pork having a great marinade and also being super tender. On top of the food we ordered, we were given a salad, soup, and rice which were all nice accompaniments. This was the meal I was looking forward to the most in my return and it did not disappoint. The only and I mean only thing to change is having bigger napkins on the table. Everything else is great and most importantly all the food is delicious.

The menu is very vegetarian-friendly since you can choose tofu as a protein for most entrees, and even vegan-friendly since they have nondairy milk options for drinks and some entrees can be easily customized to be vegan (order with tofu/no meat and remove egg). I got a matcha latte with brown sugar crystal boba and the Pattaya pineapple rice. Matcha latte: The matcha was decent - it had the flavour of matcha latte mix rather than pure matcha, but it wasn't unpleasant, and it was strong. I like the brown sugar crystal boba as a topping - the flavour is very similar to brown sugar tapioca boba, but it doesn't sit as heavy. It's a different kind of chewy than tapioca, but it's close enough that it basically gives the same kind of experience as regular tapioca boba in a drink. Pattaya pineapple rice: Really good! The rice was well-seasoned and the pieces of juicy pineapple and raisins added some sweetness that contrasted very nicely with the curry-spiced rice. They have 5 spice levels (mild, medium, hot, extra hot, Thai hot). I usually went for medium heat when I lived on the west coast, but since this is the Midwest, I tried "hot" and found it had a bit of a kick, but the heat was still secondary to the other flavours, so it was the right choice for me. Very good service. The waiter was very friendly and attentive without hovering - he came by at just the right times. My drink and food came out not too long after I ordered. The place is nice. Like the other restaurants in this area, it's situated in a small house-like building. The atmosphere feels down-to-earth. There were lots of things on the menu that caught my interest, so I'll definitely be back!

I showed up about 50 minutes after ordering and my food was hot and ready on arrival. The host who greeted me and brought out my order was very friendly. While I was waiting for him to get my food from the back, another staff member also came by to check that I was being helped. I ordered the fried eggplant stir-fry with tofu and the coconut ice cream. The stir-fry tasted good, but I selected spice level 3 "hot" (and the takeout container had a "3" written on it so I know they got it), yet there was not a hint of spice in the dish, not even a single chili flake. I don't know if they messed up and forgot to add the spice or what, but I was kind of let down. Taking the heat level out of the equation, it would rate it about average for American Thai food. I wasn't really impressed by the dish, but I enjoyed it (spicy is nice but not a must-have for me if there are other flavours). I liked the coconut ice cream dessert. The included banana spring rolls were helpfully packaged in foil separate from the ice cream, so I warmed them up in my oven a little, and they were very good warm. I'm pretty sure that what the menu calls "homemade coconut ice cream" was actually vanilla bean ice cream with shredded coconut on top. Which is still delicious but not what is written on the menu. Based on my single visit, I don't think this is close to the best Thai in Bloomington, but it's alright, and I might come here again because it's closer to home than the other places I like. I might have even given the food 4 stars if it had just been described differently on the menu, but the lack of spice in a dish that was supposed to be made hot plus the "homemade coconut ice cream" not being that left a little bit of a bad impression.

I happened to visit on a warmer day so I was able to see the space with the garage door open. It was golden hour and it had everything all lit up. Very beautiful. Our service was amazing, couldn't have asked for a better server. I can't remember her name but she was so detailed in her descriptions, thoughtful with her suggestions, and had the perfect amount of attentiveness. Now on to the fun parts.... Drinks were a hit! We told our server what we like and they recommended a couple options. I again can't remember the exact name of the drink but mine was a gin cocktail. I'll attach some photos for you. As for the food, every bite I took was delicious. Our table shared the fried brussel sprouts and the ginger miso salad. A very lovely way to ease into our meal on a lighter note. They split up the salad onto two plates for us, which was sweet of them. The portion was pretty good for a $12 salad. Very refreshing. Brussel sprouts were absolutely fire. Get them! Along with that, I also ordered the tempura shrimp maki roll. Inside the roll was cucumber and avocado with giant tempura shrimp right on top, drizzled in spicy mayo. The presentation was cool, a slightly deconstructed version of what I would get somewhere else. There wasn't a single bite left on the plate. I would order all three of these dishes again in a heartbeat. Perfect for a date night or special occasion, but also works for just grabbing a bite with friends. We had a reservation at 6:45, and were sat shortly after that time. The place was busy for a Friday night, and was somewhat loud. Our waitress greeted us quickly, and was on top of things throughout the night. I started off with a ginger miso salad, based on recommendations on this page. Personally, I could have went without the $12 salad. I would have paid more like $6 for the amount of actual salad I got. The dressing was good, but nothing extraordinary. I did ask for no cucumbers- I could taste a faint taste of cucumbers on the salad, so think they just took them off after they were already placed. We split some Bao Buns. These were the highlight of the show. The pork on them was thick, the slaw was fresh, and the bao bun itself was fluffy. We split two dishes for dinner- the short rib and the chicken udon noodles. The chicken udon noodles were fantastic- packed full of flavor and tons of toppings in it. The short rib fell a little short of my expectations, but I had high expectations to begin with. We have had the short rib multiple times in the past- and normally it is a hunk of meat, similar to a roast. Now, it is strips of tiny pieces of meat with a bone attached to it. If the owner/general manager is reading this- GO BACK TO THE ROAST STYLE- the strips of meat was too much work to eat. Still packed full of great flavor though. I had the bridge to Anshun for my drink. I had never had Baiju before, but glad I tried it. It was a tangy drink that was also sweet- would say it's a must try. Overall, some changes since our last visit that weren't expected, but overall had a great evening here. Can't wait to return.

It had been before the pandemic since my last time in Indianapolis and much has changed on the city's dining and drinking landscape. Following a recommendation from a bartender at Sundry & Vice, I made my way to BODHI. I didn't have reservations, which I'd strongly recommend, since the place was packed on Wednesday night before 6PM. Fortunately, I was able to snag a seat at the bar, which was ideal since I was dining solo. Upon scanning the hip, high-energy, yet petite dining room, I had a sense of deja vu about it before realizing that I had been in this space before back when it was Black Market. I started off with a cocktail from Bodhi's intriguing and expansive drink list, a 7 Realms of Happiness, made with Old Hamer Bourbon, Faccia Brutto Centerbe, Cappelletti amaro, saffron honey, and lemon. My thought was that it's their twist on a classic Whiskey Smash. It was bittersweet, yet balanced, and simply a delight. As for the food, BODHI's menu is concise hitting the most of the Thai food usual suspects. I had the Papaya Salad and the Shrimp Green Curry. The papaya salad came out first. I was pleasantly surprised by its plating, looking much more like an elaborate entree with its cashews, watermelon radish, and chicharrones than the humble side salad atop a leaf of lettuce or cabbage that I've usually received at virtually every Thai restaurant I've ever been. It was just a pretty plate as it tasted even better than it looked. It was fresh and flavorful as those flavors popped from the perfect balance of salty, sweet, sour, spicy, and funky. It was the best rendition of a papaya salad that I've tasted. My bowl of curry was no less successful in balancing those diverse Thai flavor profiles. Unlike some/many other curries I've had where it seems like a bowl full of sauce with bits and pieces of protein or vegetables, Bodhi's rendition achieved the perfect "solids to sauce" ratio. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and the curry itself was bold and bright on my tongue. It was a delicious spoonful. I loved it! For "dessert", I had a second cocktail, the Garnet, a booze-forward whisky drink made with Mars Iwai Tradition, Pinhook Rye, Akashi Ume Plum whisky, Veda Mushroom Liqueur, Balsamic Vermouth, celery & orange bitters, and topped with a Moon Smoke Bubble. It was very unique, tasty and satisfying, if not a bit difficult to describe. I would maybe compare it to an Asian-influenced Vieux Carre and I thought it was excellent. Service from Carli, the bartender, was stellar throughout my night as she was friendly, helpful and exceedingly outstanding in making my drinks. A definite rock star! BODHI was outstanding. I'm not sure how to best describe the place. Was it as an amazing Thai restaurant that also does incredible cocktails or an amazing cocktail bar that also does killer Thai food? Regardless, I could not have enjoyed my experience more. If/when I'm back in Indy, BODHI is at the top of my list for a visit!
