I love my MC seat with the driver's backrest. It's my second one and I can't tell you how much it helps a bad back on long rides, I highly recommend them. BUT..... I do have one negative thing I need to share. I called Russell Cycle Products and inquired about the cost, I was quoted $375, and I'd send them my seat and they would install the backrest. As it turned out, I was in town a few weeks later (I live in Idaho) so I stopped by their shop, gave them my info, and put on their schedule. All I had to do was send them my seat by a certain date, they would do the work, call me for payment and then they'd send me my new seat. Again, I was quoted $375. The work was done quickly and they called with the exact price, $733!! I asked about the quote of $375 and they said that was for the backrest but the seat had to be recovered and that was the extra cost. I argued and was finally given a 10 percent discount, the seat costs me $718 total. I wasn't happy but needed my seat back so I paid up. So.... get your quotes in writing and make sure there are no undisclosed extra costs. read more

Before I found Russell Cycle Products, I had a Corbin "custom" seat and a Hartco "custom" seat. Both of those were anything but custom. They were better than the stock seat in my BMW (Corbin) and Goldwing (Hartco). They Hartco seat was good, but once I found Russel I haven't bought anything else. I have purchase 8 (that's right eight) for 8 different motorcycles. I have ridden over 300,000 miles on those bikes, and the Russell seats and they all have been fantastic. I got two done by riding in to the shop and 6 by mailing the seat in. I really didn't notice much difference, but found the ride in a good excuse for a long ride (they are about 1200 miles from my home). Inexpensive but worth it, in my opinion read more

I have been riding Gold wings for decades. I've always wanted a Russell seat. I finally broke down and bought one. I don't know how I lived without it! I had a few custom things I wanted like a flat backseat so I could strap an extra tank on it and a dog carrier, and they made it exactly to my specs, and very reasonable price. I am 65 years old have had many bikes over almost 50 years of riding and had 3 custom seats built for my boney butt. I have always had issues with butt and back pain after about 1-1/2 to 2 hours of riding. When riding in to Russell Cycle from Portland for my build I had to stay overnight 1/2 way because a 6-7 hour ride was out of the question! Russell took great care of me, assessed my needs, set up a preliminary seating test after 2 hours, made some adjustments for a second test then built my seat to my specifications and delivered it installed exactly on time. Holy moly, this seat was so comfortable that I was able to ride it all the way home (THE LONG WAY 400+ miles), no butt or back pain... what a great surprise!!!!!!! It should be 5 STARS for the seat, 1 STAR for the 80 dollar One-Day "Ride-In" Service Surcharge fee if you show up to get the seat done. The Positive: I have always heard great things about the Russell Day Long (RDL) seats. The reviews have all been excellent. I had a new RDL seat installed on a BMW bike. I chose to ride to their shop and wait while they built my seat. You are supposed to take photos while seated on the bike and email them to their shop prior to your appointment day. They typically use the photos to build the seat. I did send the photos yet once I arrived they also took photos, in my opinion a waste of time since the photos I provided were to the exact specs the shop requires. They had me sit on the bike, , asked me a couple of questions and that was it. The process took 4 minutes. I went for a ride and came back a couple of hours later to check the fit prior to the seat cover being installed. Once the fit was verified, I went for another ride and came back in the afternoon to pick up the finished product. The seat lives up to the hype, IMHO. I rode 180 miles to the shop and by the time I got to their shop, I could feel pain on a couple of pressure points on my butt. After the installation the pressure points had "vanished". The nature of the design supports your rear end in such a way that pressure points do not develop. I am glad I purchased the seat and are extremely happy with it. The more I ride the bike, the more I like the seat. The Negative: Imagine you can purchase a company's pair of shoes online or go to their store and buy the same shoes. The difference would be if you buy the shoes online they might or might not fit. If you purchased them at the store, you know they would fit. But can you imagine paying extra because you went to their store instead of buying them online??? That is how I feel about their "Ride In" charge. When you show up with your bike, you remove any doubt they will do a fit that will not be spot on. They are craftsmen and in a couple of minutes they assess your needs and apply them to the build of your seat. Neither you nor the company will have to deal with shipping the seat back and forth to get the proper fit down. The process is streamlined by showing up and everyone saves time and aggravation. When I called in to make an appointment I was told about the fee and the lady that assisted me (she no longer works there) made it sound like the fee would be applied to the purchase. She explained it was to secure the appointment, which I can understand. This was not the case. The 80 dollar fee is not applied to the purchase. It almost seems they don't want you to show up! (?). This company is very successful and I really don't understand the need to charge someone for showing up at their shop. Charge 80 dollars to secure the appointment so people don't flake on their appointment but once the client shows up, apply the fee to the purchase price!!! Don't get greedy! There is no additional burden placed on the shop by the simple fact you are showing up. I do love the seat though in spite of it all! read more
