I checked in to one of their rentals 4 days ago and walked into a myriad of things that had just not been cleaned. I reported it right away and someone came out. We walked through the house and grounds. The couch smelled like mildew and dipped down in the middle, they'd left a dirty/orangey dish rack half cleaned just laying outside on a table next to a dirty paper towel and the cleaner, dust everywhere, pile of old bags under a kitchen island/chopping block. I started cleaning up bags and underneath was dusty and dirty and floor under that hadn't been cleaned at all...crumbs and stickiness on chopping block table, dog poo and trash in yard. Old bag and receipt on desk... it was like it had been half cleaned which was ridiculous because it was like 700 sq feet and no one had even done a sweep of the yard at all. The inspector and myself discussed lots of options. One he presented was a " febreze" of the mildewed couch and a vacuum of the unclean kitchen tile, which i found unacceptable. He did offer a clean the next day, which I had needed some time to think about, due to trusting his promise of that, the inconvenience, having to stay the night in a dirty house, and what that actually meant to this company. We discussed alternative lodging which I decided against asking about at all the next morning after going over the reviews here on Yelp and realizing there was no guarantee that any of their properties would be well maintained. I had used my entire summer savings (I'm a teacher), had my dogs and all supplies packed in the car, my family was planning a visit. Honestly, the location was great, the cabin was cute, and the yard would've been lovely. The listing promised an "enhanced clean" due to covid-19 and I had been counting on that to feel safe during this time. Even a thorough clean would've sufficed. I left about an hour after I checked in, which I would have NEVER done if I had felt at all comfortable with the situation at all, having no guarantee of a refund or a satisfactory resolution. I had emailed and called the night before and emailed again in the morning, deciding that the state of the place upon my arrival was unacceptable and I requested a refund. I had also taken some time to look at the Yelp reviews here which I should've done before I booked. I had relied on the listing reviews and my trust in Airbnb. The only response I got was from Star L., who is the one who has also responded dismissively to several of the bad reviews on this site, was that I should cancel the reservation and we'd proceed from there. There was no apology, no attempt to salvage my stay or reassurances from her about a future enhanced clean, or any kind of refund for my inconvenience or the failed check in. I canceled as she requested, hoping that would expedite my refund. She then responded that the inspector told her that the place was perfectly clean and he thought I just didn't like the place. She offered me a partial refund if they could re-book it. She told me that since I had asked about other accommodations when the inspector and I were trying to salvage the situation that meant I didn't like the place. I had never once expressed that I didn't like the place, to him, to her, on a voice mail or in writing. I was floored by Star L.'s response. The inspector saw the unclean parts of the house and garbage in the yard. He acknowledged them when speaking with me. He told my brother in law over the phone the next day that he had spent an hour an a half cleaning the place the day after I had left. It became a case of he said/she said. Ignoring that, I had pictures of the spots I had immediately reported to her and to Airbnb. She acknowledged none of that. I was told that no one believed that the place was unclean, and in so many words called a liar. You don't know me, she doesn't know me, but I'm not a liar. I had no ulterior motives. I would've given anything to have avoided this stress. I had even started cleaning up the place on my own before I discovered more and more areas that had been skipped by their cleaning crew. Airbnb is busy right now but I did get a hold of them. and they made things right by finally giving me a full refund, not Russian River Rentals. I think it's quite clear that this company has terrible customer service. Star L. dismissed me, her customer, as I've now seen her do in response to quite a few unhappy reviews on this site. No one should have to go through this with this company, especially during a time like this. It looks like some people have had quite nice experiences with their stays. But if you have an issue, I would strongly advise you to document everything as thoroughly as possible. Based on my recent experience, this company is untrustworthy, does not support or validate their renters (in my case, it was implied I was a liar several times) and takes no responsibility when it comes to dealing with any issues that may arise with your stay. read more

This review relates to a stay at Seaton Hill House 10/29/11 for 5 harrowing nights. First of all, we requested the address for this home in advance so that we could map it. Russian River Rentals refused to give us the address until they had received payment for the entire stay. Secondly, and most importantly, the roads leading up to the "Seaton Hill House" vacation home are dangerous, unlighted, treacherous drop-offs which are barely passable. When we arrived the first evening, due to the traffic build-up on IH101, it was already dark. Even with the best directions, the road to this house is confusing, to say the least and it would not be an exaggeration to state that the road conditions threatened our lives. One of the passengers was forced to evacuate the vehicle and vomit. Every passenger in the car was in terror. We circled around and around the mountain, adding to the growing stress in the car, because there was no lighting to show us the number on the vacation home, and it was impossible to see (five people with great motivation to find it were unable to spot it). We passed it up several times, each time in more despair that we were going to be victims of the tiny dirt road with its twists and turns and its sheer cliffs. When we finally figured out by process of elimination regarding the neighboring addresses, finding it only after backtracking several times, in exhaustion and shot nerves, we realized that the only way to park was to back up a slanting gravel driveway. The driveway was pointed in each direction toward sheer drop-offs, as well, and was paved with dirt and gravel, which caused our vehicle to slip and slide. A mistake of only a few inches would have ended in a vehicle crash and injury to the driver. Once we exited our vehicle to bring in our luggage, we realized that the house was not fitted with any ramps and so we had to bring our luggage up many stairs which were built into the high sides of the hill. We had someone with emphysema with us, as well as the person who vomited out of fear and was so anxiety ridden that she was quite ill. My boyfriend tried to bring up everyone's luggage himself, as the only other male with us was the guest with emphysema. I took pity on my boyfriend and helped him carry the luggage part of the way, although afterward my back and neck were in pain. Once we entered the home, it became evident that the photos of the home on the Russian River website were deceptive, as was the description of the home and that not everything about the home had been disclosed. The photos caused the rooms to appear larger than they actually were and the kitchen was described as "gourmet" although there was nothing "gourmet" about the smallish kitchen. In addition, the sunroom has a floor that slants to one side. The bedrooms downstairs underneath the sunroom area had floors which also slanted, so that when you are in bed, you feel the bed slanting downward. The following day after our arrival, part of our vacation was spent in the emergency room in Santa Rosa at Kaiser. The person who had been made sick by the ascent up the mountain was still sick. She and her husband were forced to spend the greater part of the whole day in the emergency room treating the condition which was brought on by the road we had to travel each day. She was forced to take medication to alleviate the condition. There was no warning about the road conditions in the information posted on the Russian River Rentals website. I believe it was foreseeable that these roads could cause people to become ill when trying to travel them and potential guests at Seaton Hill House should be warned in the description of the home on the Russian River Rentals website. On Sunday evening, October 30, we attempted to grill dinner on the patio grill. The grill does not work. I recently rented a house for a weekend celebration of my husband's birthday. We arrived after dark and had a very difficult time finding the house since it was on a narrow dark street and they left no light on for us. When we walked in the door the smell of mildew almost knocked us over. We woke up the next morning to find the coffee pot not working. We made the most of our time together but was very disappointed with the rental property we got from this agency which cost us over $400 for the weekend. I did follow up with a phone call and told them of the problems we had and they only apologized and said that the house must have not been rented for awhile. They did not offer any type of refund. I would highly recommend that you stay away from this agency. They need a lot of work on customer service. read more

We rented a home and were evacuated due to fires. We let the Russian River Rental company know we had personal belongings in the home. They said they would let us know when we could come back to retrieve our things. I kept checking the roads and they continued to be closed. I called a week later and they had rented the house out..with our personal belongings in the house. I am just amazed at what has happened. They have given me a 2 hour window to come get my things once the renters leave. I really am speechless. read more

I would not consider ever renting from Russian River Rentals again. We recently stayed at a "peaceful and attractive cabin in the redwoods". We reported directly to RRR that we were very disappointed there was not a single window covering in the home, that the sole closet and only dresser were packed with dirty underwear, socks and other clothing and could not be used, that the deck/table/barbecue were unusable as they had not been cleaned in a long time, that the washer/dryer were outside, under the deck, awkward to get to or use, that the furniture was rickety and worn... RRR did not bother to respond. When we left a poor review on AirBnB, RRR then responded defensively, failing to even acknowledge the issues we brought forward - much less apologize. Life is too short and Russian River too beautiful to waste time with this outfit. read more

We stayed at the Story Book Cabin. This is a lovely little cottage nestled at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. If you are arriving in the evening, you may have trouble finding this little street...luckily I had someone in the car with me who could pay attention to the signs while I watched the road (which is rather dark, as most woodsy roads are). My friend was not so lucky and spent some time driving around. The only real downside to this cabin was the way noise traveled...you could hear pretty much everything your other guests were doing at any time. Other than that, the house was well-stocked with utensils, servingware, wine glasses, towels, and some basics (salt, pepper, etc.). I wish we had been able to spend more time there and enjoy the outside chairs while sitting under the trees. It is also close to the river; we didn't have time to go check it out (and it was fall so too cold to swim), unfortunately. The process of booking through RRR was also seamless. The office was very friendly and accommodating, and quick to answer our questions. read more

The staff was super responsive to us -- and it was pretty much as simple as booking a hotel for a weekend -- but with a lot more space. Property rented: Stone's Throw Cottage in Monte Rio Duration of stay: F - Sun; two nights, three days # of People: 10 Nearly all salient information for getting into the property and enjoying it while there were provided before hand, including information about the property's non-conventional parking situation. This allowed for easy mental prep going in and easy reference upon arrival. The property was clean, warm and cozy. The only piece of information that I couldn't find was the code to unlock the hot tub's lock. I called after hours on Friday and still received a prompt response from a Russian River Rentals employee, giving me the info and doing so with kindness. It was much appreciated. Have rented from them twice now for extended work-related stays of a month. The rentals were great and in good condition. Much better than a hotel when you're a couple with a dog and slightly less expensive (than the month rate at a Marriott/Hilton). The Russian River area is beautiful and it always feels like a river cabin getaway. Would recommend to anyone looking for a weekend getaway near the river in wine country or looking for an extended stay near the area for any reason. The location of the house we rented was amazing, the neighbors not so much, unless you are into partying until 2am every night. The house itself was older, not very clean (cobwebs everywhere) and doors did not shut properly. Beds were very small and hard - not the sizes that they were advertised to be. The refrigerator was not working upon our arrival. We called the rental agency and they gave us suggestions as to what to do to remedy the situation, but did not come out. We ended up having to purchase a cooler and ice to keep our $200 worth of groceries from spoiling in the night. Apparently the after hours caretaker doesn't like to leave her house when there is a problem at one of the rentals. The night before our last, the 3 fire alarms in the house went off at 3am. After determining that there was not a fire and that it was some sort of malfunction and not being able to get them to turn off, we packed our stuff and left a day early at 3:30am. The rental agency did not offer a refund for the night that we missed but rather gave a list of excuses as to why we should not have left and that in fact on a 7 day rental they throw in the 7th day free so we weren't paying for that day anyways. read more

Ii would rate zero stars if I could. The address says "Guerneville, CA". But, be warned that they have no actual office and in our case it really would have helped. We arrived to our Riverside Retreat December 27 to find a notice posted by the local water company stating the water was turned off until further notice due to possible water leak. I had to call the rental company and let them know! Furthermore, a notice was posted on the front door by the local gas/propane company warning not to enter due to possible gas leak. Russian River Rentals emailed me a few hours prior to finding this that "there may be a small gas leak and that we may run into guys working on it." I had to call Russian River Rentals from the land line in the rental and let them know that we were not allowed to enter. As the sun set with no cell or wifi service and a trunk full of groceries I thought Russian River Rentals would do everything they could to help my wife and I get into a place. Their only offer was a place 40 minutes down the road for $200/nt sight unseen! Absolutely ridiculous customer service. Nobody offered to come out and personally help us and when I inquired about going to their office to use a phone I was told they have a "virtual office and sorry." That was it. Oh, and the "customer service" agent told me that she would be "really pissed too" if she were me. It took me a week to get my refund back. I will never do business with them again and plan to let as many people know that wish to travel to the Russian River. My wife and I plan to visit again and will be happy to use another rental agency that has an actual office. read more

CenterPeace is an ideal location on the Russian River. Far enough from town to have a sense of privacy yet, close enough to enjoy the atmosphere of a town that has really upped it game. Within 20-30 minutes you can be at the Jenner By the Sea, the mouth of the Russian River. You have so many options for outdoor adventures or you can just nest at CenterPeace, so aptly named. The deck on the back of the house overlooks the river and is nestled within a number of redwood trees. The landscaping is well maintained and pleasing to the senses. Three bedrooms, two baths, an expansive kitchen and plenty of livingroom space awaits. Go! Sitting in the hot tub after a day of kayaking on the river was very relaxing. In fact, did it after a mountain bike ride up at Salt Point as well. read more

We had a terrible experience staying at one of Russian River Rentals' houses: Ohana House in Forestville. This house was priced a little lower than most, but it is NOT WORTH IT. It is a SHACK that is not in appropriate shape to be rented at all. It was not properly cleaned when we arrived: the floors, kitchen table, bathtubs, etc, were actually dirty (to their credit, Russian River Rentals did respond by bringing in their cleaning person the next day after we complained, but she still did not do a thorough job). Countless problems with this house. For example: The linoleum floor in the main room (called a stone floor in the description) has a GIANT hump in the middle. The whole house feels rickety and you would not want to be in it in an earthquake. It is situated about 20 feet from River Road, the main thoroughfare. One bedroom door is broken and does not close. No toaster, land line (or AT&T reception), recycling bin, or guest book. The septic tank REEKED in the back yard when water was running inside! Blinds, drains, etc, weren't working properly. And so on. I swear, I am not making any of this up. The beach that is very close is quite nice, except for the fact that River Road's overpass is RIGHT there, so it is not serene at all -- constant traffic going by. Plus, on weekends canoers continually stop on the beach to drink and party. Russian River Rentals did offer us to stay at another available house (more expensive), and were gracious on the phone, but they offered no apology, refund, or explanation for this disaster of a rental, even after I emailed them politely about it. OMG! We stayed in the Seaton Hill House at the end of October this year. This place reminded me of the opening to a horror movie. The house is described as being on a hill. It was on the side of a cliff! Imagine driving in at night, no street lights, a one lane winding road 12 feet wide with a sheer cliff on the left, and a sheer dropoff on the right. It took us two plus hours to find the house in the dark. The address was not readily visible. The photographs shown by Russian River Rentals were deceptive. I thought it was a modern house but in reality it was built in 1915. I have an engineering background and was shocked at the substructure which in my opinion was woefully inadaquate. Inside, the structure litterally slanted downhill in places.. The bedroom we stayed in slanted precariously downhill. How quaint.. My advice; don't rent from these guys.. read more

Just got off the phone with a girlfriend of mine who had a horrible experience with a wine country rental this past weekend. An expensive dump - dishes, dirt, looked like the folks who live there left 10 minutes before my friend and her other friends got there and didn't bother to clean anything. This inspired me to write a review for the RRR property I stayed at last year. Better late than never. I rented the 'Escondite' property for two nights last summer. It was $500 / night. While on the surface things were tidy it creeped me and my friends out because it felt like there was a layer of grime on everything. There were crumbs in the cabinets in the kitchen and they didn't even give us a new sponge for the kitchen sink. Area rugs were not clean. Bathroom shower stall was moldy. Bedding was ancient and ugly. The place was dark and the decor was dated. I couldn't wait to leave. I sent a detailed email to the RRR office and no one responded to my input / complaint. I don't recommend this rental company and would not use again. I would have given no stars but the system wouldn't let me post this review without selecting at least one star. read more

Seaton Hill House: This is the first time I have written a review for yelp. I believe that this house is actually a hazard and should not be rented out until and unless something is done about the driveway. The drive to the house is somewhat tricky (a one way one car road) but we were warned about it and got there before it was dark. However, when we tried to drive up into the driveway (we have an Accord V6 with relatively new tires), we slid off the driveway until one wheel was hanging in the air. With some very careful maneuvering, guidance from our friends, and sheer luck, we managed to get back on the road. The driveway has a pile of loose gravel and dirt on it, and the only car which made it up the driveway was the one with a 4-wheel drive. To barely escape an overturned car or worse is not the best way to begin a weekend retreat. In addition there were little things that most other rentals take care of that were missing. There was no handwashing soap in one of the bathrooms; only one roll of paper towels; exactly two dishtowels... I could go on. It just looks like it was once a well taken care of place but now has been allowed to deteriorate. It's a pity for it truly is in a lovely forested location and could easily be a tranquil retreat. read more

With taxes and fees $300/night in the winter, off-season. $100 cleaning fee, which covered "basic cleaning." Apparently this doesn't cover the towels you use, or any dishes in the sink. "Your cleaning fee covers the laundering of one set of linens per bed and one bath towel, hand towel and washcloth per guest. You may use additional linens and towels if provided ,but you must wash, dry, and put them away before your departure. Extra unwashed linens and towels left for the housecleaner will be charged $25/load." Also responsible for taking out all garbage. What are we paying a $100 cleaning fee for? A $40 nonrefundable "damage waiver?" Cottage was nice, but for the price (in the winter) you could stay in a 4 star hotel. Insane additional fees and ridiculous rules. read more

We used this rental place to book a lovely cabin on the river for our anniversary ... The cabin was CLEAN inside and out, fresh linens, warm cookies on our arrival, fire wood was chopped, hot tub was warm - it was an all around amazing perfect setting - no I will not give you the name of the cabin as I really dont want to share - but from the quality of the specific cabin we were in I would recommend them for booking on the river. Avoid RRR at all costs. Rented Dockside in Monte Rio through AirBnB. Pics looked great, large deck, with pool, hot tub, on the river... what more could you ask for? They must have had a great photographer because in person it looked like the proverbial pig with lipstick. Basically it's a downstairs basement, storage area turned into a "vacation" rental. No TLC whatsoever. The "sitting room" is actually a glorified entry hallway and the second bedroom, a dark, dank, shoe-boxed sized room with bed squeezed inside. If it's cold outside, forget being able to enjoy a comfy time indoors, way too cramped. Dockside is the downstairs part of a very large riverside house which upon first inspections looks great. Once upon the property you realize no one has cared for the overall house in years. It's tired, worn, overgrown and in need of love. Soon after arrival and realizing staying at Dockside was not an option, we called their office on Friday at 6 P.M. asking for options. They did quickly respond and within an hour we were staying in a house up the road called Riverdale. This new property was no peach, but acceptable and more liveable and mind that it's 7 P.M. Friday night with 4 adults and 1 toddler in town. We had to make the best of it, no? Just like the first place, the lack of quality was apparent. Old carpet, old towels, linoleum flooring, non-working lights, ant infestation in towel closet... oh and internet that stopped working on Saturday morning. That morning we decided to cut our losses and return o the Bay Area to salvage the rest of our weekend in our comfortable home. I shot an email to RRR indicating we had left and that I would call on Monday to talk about final charges. They replied back on Monday telling me resolution would happen via AirBnB. Essentially i asked proposed that we settle with one nights charges and be done with it. They refused settlement and are sticking me with full charges on the first place we reserved. They put it on me for not calling on Saturday to allow them to resolve my issues. Let me see, first place was un-livable, and the second place was just nice enough to stay for a night. I know seeing two places is a small sample size, but I get the sense that mediocrity is the norm for RRR and not sure what they could have done to change that. I've engaged AirBnB to resolve and hopefully they can bring some pressure to get charges reduced. Let me point out RRR lists properties on VRBO, AirBnB, and their own site. Much cheaper rates on the RRR site... I wonder why? I'd like to add that I've rented 30-40 house on VRBO over the years with not a single complaint. How does this outfit get 4 stars on YELP? If you actually look at the reviews further, you'll see more one star reviews like mine, and from what I can tell Star digs in his heels and places the onus on the customer. Also, when you look at the 4 and 5 star reviews, the reviewers tend to have no pics, zero to few friends, and only a few reviews. Perhaps they're paying other people to push their ratings up? Let me emphasize that while I'm the one person writing this review, there were four adults in total and we were all in agreement on the lack of quality for the money paid. Overall terrible experience. Will not be back, ever and will make sure none of my friends do either. read more

We are a part of Summerhome Park which is a unique community with activities for kids, an outdoor amphitheater with nightly movies, a private beach (a 5 minute walk from the Hideaway), themed parties, basketball courts, BBQ, lodge with food & beer and more than 100 years of local history and tradition. russioan river rentals made booking this magic spot in a wonderful arera easy-- i am a believer. we did all those family things that you read about kids doing in the 60's and 70's-=--safely making friends with the other kids on the beach seen every day, sharing each others sand toys,butterfly nets, inflatable rafts. all of the parents forming a loose congregation of watchful eyes on the kids in the shallows as a whole and gladly offering a seat under their umbrella or an iced tea to the newbies "parents new to the private beach". allesandra made homemade icecream, i made hoimemade lemonade, the girls collected leaves and pressed them to make greeting cards as well as onserviong centipedes, bananna slugs and butterflies. we were routinely surprised by deer and enjoiyed the hottub from sun up to sundown. All the girls Loved it! after the sun went down i swear i saw fireflies as we walked down the road to the beach, our way llit by our lantern and Xmas lights decking the forest cabins. i boasted to the girls that you could shine a flashlight in the mud and crawdads would follow the light-beam up onto the sand making them easy to catch--something i remembered from lake winnepausaukee as a kid. sure enough on the first try caught a crayfish for sophie who ran screaming ecstatically up the beach showing everyone! then we walked up to the big lodge which has picnic tables overlooking the river bend and Alma got a great draft beer for a buck and a huge mess of delicious french fries for about the same. good food and cheap. the girls looked in wonder at the teens playing pool and the jukebox in the center of the room. we finished this ''best night ever'' by walking past the bleachers on the open air theater where kids were cheering to the famous kids underdog movie, ''the sandlot'' which , started out as ''just 5 minutes mom'' and ended up mesmerizing the adults as well.it was almost the full moon, and this one was the largest in a long time.... on the longest night of the year. the moon was unusually large which only added to the nights magic.... what a great vacation. read more

Renting a cabin at the Russian River can be a crap shoot. Some places are dumps, and some are great - you don't know till you drive up because most places do not give out the address until you book, and we all know how pictures posted on a website can be deceiving ;-). We called up Russian River Rentals to get a recommendation for a nice place with beach access that was big enough for two families, and accepted dogs. We were sent a list of four places to choose from, and with the help of Trini, narrowed it down to one. The rental turned out to be wonderful! We were so happy to find a great house in a super beautiful setting amongst huge redwoods. The house was well cared for, with a large deck that overlooked the river, recently remodeled kitchen, new hot tub, and best of all, a sandy, private beach on the river - exactly what we were looking for. Russian River Rentals took care of all the arrangements without a hitch, and checked in with us to make sure everything was OK with the cabin. I will definitely use them again for our next getaway from the San Francisco fog :-). read more

We recently rented CenterPeace. This is a fantastic vacation rental. Love the decor of the home, modern and welcoming. Great kitchen, three roomy bedrooms and a new hot tub for those evening soaks. Enjoyed the local restaurants and entertainment. We used the kayaks at the home for long paddle up stream and watched two ospreys hunting in the river. Hiked at willow canyon, and had fantastic mountain bike ride at salt point state park. Three nights seemed like a week. Highly recommend this home! read more

Renters BEWARE. These guys are SHADY. The photos in some of the ads are very deceptive. This company did not release the address to the rental until I put 50% down. You may not be as close to the river as you may think. Even if the rental is offering a canoe. Unless you are familiar with the area, I'd advise to arrive during daylight hours because the narrow roads leading to some of the cabins can be treacherous. The customer service from the gals at the office sucks. They'll be nice to you unless you need something. If you unfortunately have already rented from them and are locked in...bring a camera and photo any and all damage to the property prior to taking your stuff in. Advise them immediately of the damage no matter how minor it may appear to you. And retain the photos. Otherwise you risk being charged for the damage even if it was pre-existing. They will tell you that an "independent" property inspector and the house cleaner verified that the damage was new. Sounds pretty impartial to me...wonder who pays them. Guerneville and the surrounding areas are awesome!!! I would definitely vacation there again. I would avoid renting from Russian River Rentals at all costs. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! Semper Fi. BEWARE of false advertising. The house we rented ("Redwood Lodge") advertised river access and a dock. Neither was there. After quite a few complaints, the RRR admitted that the owner is aware of dock and stairs not being present, but still advertised them as if they are. Imagine what kind of grief it caused us vacationing with small kids - the river is right there, the boats are in the garage, but no swimming or boating. RRR also had the nerve to respond as if this is all normal and expected, and, to add insult to injury, suggested us to carry the heavy boats to the beach - its just a few miles away, no big deal, right? In addition the house did not have enough linen and towels for the number of guests it was advertised for. I'll stay away from RRR from now on. read more

Russian River Rentals' and engaged staff worked with me to find a great house for a weekend getaway. The process was simple and straightforward. The Green Ridge Retreat was beautiful space. Space to cook, lounge, and soak in the awesome hot tub. Rustic luxury! I was not ready to leave! Highly recommended! read more

We stayed at Sanctuaire in Monte Rio. Very cute two-bedroom cottage with an additional small cottage in the back that included a very comfy daybed. The place was spotlessly clean with nice decor throughout and included a sauna (in the back cottage) and a hot tub. Just a short walk to the river. Kayaks were available to use although we did not take advantage of them. Beautiful garden and patio with a nice mix of sun and shade. The whole place is very private, quiet, and relaxing. People in the neighborhood that we encountered were also very friendly and everyone seemed to wave when we went out to walk our dog. Free wi-fi was a nice bonus as well. We'll use Russian River Rentals again for sure! read more

We rented a lovely home called KUDOS from Russian River Rentals, which was right on the Russian River. The home had it all. Sandy Beach, Fireplace, Hot Tub, large deck overlooking the river. The home had fluffy beds, soft towels and even Green Tea in the kitchen. We will definitely go back. read more

I don't know about this place. Put an ad on craigslist saying 3 nights for 2. We got all excited, she said they had it available and that is was a great deal. I say we'll take it. Then I think to be completely clear about the 3 for 2 and ask, "so, is it...?" and the answer: NO, the ad is wrong. Say YES to the russian river and NO to the russian river rentals and the Rio Vista Rental. If you are going to be in business and advertise for people, you should at the very least honor your advertisements. read more

We stayed at Willowhaven in Monte Rio, and the setting was pristine. It felt like we were in our own little pocket of Redwoods. Unfortunately one of the main features of this house [hot tub] was not working at the time we arrived. After contacting Russian River Rentals with the news they acted quickly and tried to get us into a nearby location with a working hot tub. Now that's what I call excellent customer service! Regardless we had a wonderful, relaxing stay at Willowhaven and will not hesitate to use the services of Russian River Rentals again. Special thanks to Trini! You rock! read more

Our large family stayed at Stones Throw and had a wonderful experience in spite of a number of short-comings of the place, because we chose to focus on the good stuff :) We loved the solitary & magical feel of the place perched high on the edge of a hill, no other places visible from any window, surrounded by gorgeous greenery, though we couldn't get our vehicles up the driveway, too steep. It was hard to turn around and our car ended up with a big, ugly scratch :/ The extremely long & steep stairway down to the road was lovely for all of us but my husband whose knees paid dearly for the climbs. The 'gourmet' kitchen was tiny and understocked, but we are resourceful and made it work, we all squeezed around the patio table for meals since the inside dining table was so small and falling apart rickety. A lot of the furniture was extremely worn and there were plenty of funky smells, especially in the downstairs rooms. It all somehow managed a sort of charm that worked, in spite of the negatives. We loved being able to either walk to a fabulous 'swimming hole' on the river with a perfect sandy beach or to drive to the ocean, both took about 10 minutes. We were there in June, which made our ocean jaunts a bit too chilly. Next time would pick August, instead. Customer service was reasonable, definitely on the pleasant side, both when booking and answering my many questions, and in responding to us once we got there. read more

Renting through Russian River Rentals was a pleasure. Everyone was friendly and accommodating. I can't say enough about our house in Monte Rio. Described as a Garden Paradise and that's exactly what it was and more! Walking distance to the river this cottage style home close to everything was more than I expected. As soon as we walked in we felt at home.. We didn't want to leave and I hope we can come back again one day soon. Please read this if you are thinking about doing business with this company! RUSSIAN RIVER RENTALS gives property managers everywhere a bad name! Using the photos and descriptions posted on their website, we booked a three bedroom home, Lazy River Lookout, in Guerneville, CA, for a one week stay. To allow a house to deteriorate into the state of disrepair we found is borderline criminal. Here is a list of the dangerous and uncomfortable conditions at Lazy River Lookout: --There was no mention on the website about the three levels of suspect stairs that you must climb to get to the treehouse level residence. It is not ADA compliant and my brother, who is disabled, could not visit; --There is a broken ceiling light in a guest bedroom with a filament that touches the metal housing: I am thankful that there was not a fire when we flipped the switch; --The ceiling lights in the living area are inadequate and ALL the ceiling lights in the dining area were out: Russian River Rentals did not replace them, we had to do that ourselves; --The ancient charcoal barbecue had a loose piece of wood wired to the ill-fitting lid and it was tricky to not get burned. More importantly, there were gaping holes in the kettle that spilled hot ash onto the wooden deck: good luck getting down all those rickety stairs if there was a fire; --There is prominent mold in the master bath, and spider webs in the kitchen cabinets, as well as rodent droppings that covered the kayaks in the bleak basement; --Both couches in the living area were ripped, with the stuffing popping out, and I would not recommend putting your face anywhere near the upholstery. --The sagging, lumpy beds provided a very poor night's sleep. Having had enough, we left three days early and complained to Russian River Rentals. Their response was to attack us and refuse to refund any portion of our payment. Of course, managing a property from 80 miles away in Oakland can be challenging. They have no local office. In all fairness, they did excel at taking our money and not responding to repair requests. There are other, reputable, rental agencies with local offices in Guerneville. AVOID THIS BUSINESS AT ALL COSTS. read more

We have stayed at the Seaton Hill House twice and Sanctuaire once. The houses were very clean and comfortable and provided the privacy we desired. We recently rented Treetop Terrace in Guerneville through Russian River Rentals. The walk to town (which was its big selling point) was a single winding road with blind spots and not safe at all. The stairs that accessed the bedroom on the ground floor was so steep and the handrail was useless (hard to believe it would pass a safety inspection) that one of our guests couldn't come. The water turned orange and was undrinkable so we had to purchase bottled water during our entire stay. Perhaps it was because no one had rented it in a while but this should have been taken care of ahead of time. Although the place was clean the bed in the master bedroom sagged in the middle, so my husband and I kept rolling into each other. When we complained to the rental agency they offered 2 other places, but of lesser price and quality (one even had questionable internet but we needed a good connection for work purposes). We were willing to work with them, even splitting the cost of a more expensive place, but that wasn't even a consideration on their part. They refused to refund any money because the owner of the rental said no, but we felt that Russian River Rentals had an obligation to us, which they failed to honor. Even paying for the water would have been a simple gesture, but customer relations certainly don't seem to be a high priority for them. On the other hand, they require an unusual number of tenant chores, mandatory if you don't want to be charged extra. Once we returned home I sent them a detailed description of our experience but we have never heard a word from them. They just took our money and were done with us. read more
