Way better than what I expected from a small town in Texas. I got the enchiladas poblanos and my boyfriend got the fajitas (chicken and shrimp) and they were both so good. We did a company striper fishing trip at Texoma, and by mere great luck I stumbled onto Felipe and his restaurant. Met with him at the restaurant to go over catering in food for 12 people. He himself along with some help delivered the food on time and piping hot. We had ordered beef and chicken fajitas. We had all the trimmings IE: Beans, rice, veggies, quac ( the quac was amazing!) Even had them make breakfast burritos for the " Foggy head" person for the next morning. All in all this will be our go to place for each trip. Felipe even followed up the next day via text to make sure I was happy. Food and service was impecable!!!!! A must go to place if you're in the area. We waited at the front counter for over 30 minutes and were never acknowledged. We watched multiple people leave due to the lack of service. We watched a couple who was seated before we arrived getting their order taken after we witnessed them waiting at least 45 minutes with just chips and salsa. The waitstaff was concerned about the big tables and were not paying attention to the smaller tables. After still waiting for more than a curt 'how many' for another 15 minutes and seeing multiple open tables, we left. It was our first and definitely ONLY time to give this place a chance. read more

Wonderful food and prompt service. Some of the staff don't appear to speak English. Live music you can dance to, which was fun! We had no idea this place existed until a friend told us how good it was. We decided to try it and wow! Really great! The redfish was excellent. It was flaky and had great flavor. The "green" mashed potatoes were so good. The shrimp and crab enchiladas, as with the redfish, had lots of flavor and was an excellent dish as well. We talked to the owner who was very personable. Everything is made from scratch. Even the decorations had historical items throughout that were not replicas but originals. He is just as proud of his cooking as he is about his establishment. After giving Rustico two chances to impress me, I can honestly say that I'm not in love. This second dinner opportunity happened last night for our party of 10 (7 adults and 3 children). We were immediately seated (a plus), but were left at the table without the high chairs we requested... the hostess had just walked off like she never even saw the kids. Once our waitress arrived, we ordered four alcoholic drinks and a few teas & waters. Those arrived within 10 minutes, but the bar drinks legit took 30 minutes. We asked two waitresses about it and were told that only one bartender had shown up to work his shift. Understandable, but the restaurant wasn't that full. I was also served a frozen margarita (sans sugar) when I had ordered one on the rocks (with sugar). For what it's worth, the Rose Margarita tastes like perfume straight from the bottle. The chips and salsa are great, though (you can fill up on them fast). I ordered the Crab & Spinach Enchiladas, which come with rice and corn. Although the enchiladas were okay, I think I was served plain Spinach enchiladas, as I couldn't find any trace of crabmeat in them. The rice is bland at best, and the corn was watered down, but topped with cheese to make it more appealing, maybe? The saving grace was the friendly and hardworking waitress we had. Our waitress Kaytlin was horrible and failed in so many aspects. She was not nice until she gave us the check for a tip. The food was excellently displayed on our plates, but the flavors and temperature was subpar. $25 for a plate of fish that was floating in pineapple flavored sauce was disgusting. The sweet and tangy flavor overpowered the fish and puke green mashed potatoes. A plate that the hubs ordered was not supposed to come with corn, but a serving came out on his plate and it wasn't mentioned in the menu.....He can't have corn or he would have told them not to deliver it. The michelada was disgusting. What the heck was in that drink???? We've never had one taste that bad and we frequently drink those. This was a very sad and disappointing experience. This was our third time here with high hopes since we brought my brother and girlfriend, but it absolutely sucked. read more

We've recently moved to a new town in Texas &, while in the bank setting up our new accounts & being new to the area, we asked for a good place to eat. The banker suggested that we try this "great Mexican restaurant" for lunch. When we left, we headed straight for RUSTICO. However, it was Monday & the restaurant is closed on Monday. At any rate, we waited & at a later date, we gave it a shot. WOW...am I ever glad I did!!! When we walked in, we were greeted by a sweet hostess & ushered into a beautifully-decorated & very modern-looking restaurant. There was live music from a tremendous pianist. Everything was just perfect; the light, the mood, the ambience. Now, for the reason we came! The food was incredible...& the prices were VERY economical. My wife & I ordered an appetizer of made at the table guacamole, we ordered combination (beef & chicken) fajitas & then a cannoli-styled cheesecake with chocolate syrup & whip cream on top...& still got out for under $35. They have two party rooms available & when I inquired about those, Phillipe (the owner or manager) came out & informed me he does not charge to use or reserve the rooms. They only charge for the price of the meal. He was very informative & hospitable. We will be back to this restaurant!! Please visit & support this establishment. We need good, classy places to eat like this to stay in business. Forgive me for not getting a picture of our food, but we had another couple with us & was enjoying their company & the wonderful atmosphere at RUSTICO MEXICAN RESTAURANT!! Just leaving Rustico. Arrived at 4:30, only one other party in the restaurant. Ordered "The Best" margarita at $14.99. Expected to be "wow'd". It took the bartender 15 minutes to make our drinks. There's only two of us in our party. Came full of ice in a 16 ounce pint glass. It was okay, not $14.99 great. Ordered an "original" and "house" next round in a large. Came in the same 16 ounce pint glass. Tasted basically the same. Received the bill and apparently there is a $3.75 up-charge for getting it on "the rocks"? Nowhere on the menu does it state that (pictures attached). So basically $20 margarita in a 16 ounce glass full of ice. So disappointed. The food was good, not great as all the reviews rave. Drove 40 minutes to eat here based on reviews. Sadly, won't be back. read more

I walked in at lunch and from way across the restaurant (it is large) the owner waived at me and walked up to shake my hand, with a big, sincere smile and genuine hand shake. Then my hostess seated me. I had seafood enchiladas with lobster sauce. In my 50 years I have never eaten anything so amazingly delicious at a Mexican Restaurant. If I lived locally I would definitely binge on that meal. Not only were the owner, facilities, and food exceptional, so was the waitress, and prices were more than fair. We came to this restaurant as first timers and we are new to the area. The waitress was not anything impressive. To be honest was not attentive and my food was delivered cold and she never came back to the table to check on us after. I ended up having to flag her down and she made extremely rude comments when she dropped off the check and so I requested to speak to the manager and never saw her again. The owner ended up coming over and he went above and beyond to make things right. After we paid and we're getting in our truck the owner went and got the keys to his adorable 'Hot Wheels' VW and took myself and my young son on a ride around the block. Wonderful Mexican food! We had a variety of dishes we never even heard of before and they were all great! I have the salmon, a friend had the redfish and another the pork chops. First time at this restaurant and first off I'd like to say that the place is very nice and clean and has a little bit of that upscale feel to it especially for a small town. I ordered the 9.99 fish off the lunch menu and it was pretty good I think I should've probably ordered something more Mexican though. The salsa was amazing I could eat that salsa all day long. The lime margarita was also very tasty as well. For dessert we got the sopapillas and they were a little bit more crunchy than what I'm used to but I liked it. This place was just okay. The salsa tasted like it was from a can for starters. The ambiance was fun and upbeat but the food just wasn't doing it for us. My dad ordered the lobster and shrimp chili rellenos and I ordered the cheese chili rellenos. They DON'T deep fry the the chili rellenos!!! It tasted like they boiled the pepper and stuffed it. Which in return left a flavorless pepper and a subpar texture. Do yourself a favor and go to "Camino Viejo" in Sherman, it's half the price and triple the flavor. I have been here 4 times and let me say, the food is very good. The two-stars are for the very bad service I have encountered each and every time. The first time was when they just opened -- our order for a 4-top was lost. The waitress was great about finding the issue and correcting it. But each time after the service just gets worse but now just don't seem to care. I was in this past week (and due to an early girl's basketball game), we decided to get a very early dinner. We arrived at 4 and were the ONLY table in the restaurant. Drink order consisted of two waters and one margarita. Well, the water was remembered but the margarita was MIA (even though I thought I saw her write it down). But after several minutes, I asked.....she went to get it but that still took way too long (did I mention we were the only table in the restaurant). When I did get the margarita, I did notice that they went to a mix (vs before where it was a true margarita). While it was ok, I couldn't recommend it to anyone. My sister-in-law thought the enchiladas were the best she ever had. My plate (tex-mex- steak) was good but the refried beans were very under-seasoned. I make them myself so understand that you can have an ok batch once in a while. But, the service again was terribly slow. Shouldn't have to WAIT to ask for more chips (did I mention we were the only table???). So, if you want to have good food but will accept lousy service going in from the start, i do recommend going. (I"m sure I'll be back at some point because I do like the food, I just need to build up energy needed to accept the bad service without yelling at the manager. I did leave a tip that was appropriate for the service and received a sarcastic toned "thank-you" which meant she did not understand what poor service she gave. read more
