Everything was great.... almost. The food, the drinks (had my first Pickle martini), our waiter (Caesar), the ambiance was fantastic. However the chairs were too small (hard- metal patio chairs). And we were at a beautiful round table with a thick base. So thick, we couldn't stretch out our legs- so along with the chairs, we were all very uncomfortable. Stafford House sits on the south side of Denison's beautifully renovated Katy Depot--literally inside the historic train station that once served as a major gateway to Texas. I visited on a Saturday evening for an early dinner with my parents and sister. (Side note for Dallas residents: If you're familiar with the Katy Trail, it's worth the drive to see where it all began. When the Katy railroad tracks were removed in Dallas, the trail was born. While Denison doesn't have a trail today, the original depot remains, and it's a lovely place to explore.) The atmosphere at Stafford House is calm and refined, with deep burgundy tones, and brown leather accents lending it a warm, intimate feel. Service was quick, friendly, and attentive. We started with the steak carpaccio appetizer, which was savory and full of flavor. For dinner, the ladies each had the Airline chicken with mushroom risotto, while my father and I ordered the lamb T-bones. Took the hubs here for his birthday. Made reservations and they had our table waiting and served us immediately! Smoked old fashions were on point. Shrimp cocktail for an appetizer, cocktail sauce was delicious and shrimp was tiger size. I had sea bass and it was melt in your mouth, buttery perfection. Hubs had the filet. Cooked perfect. This is the first time we have been back since the menu change. We really didn't think it could get any better than it was, but man were we proven wrong. The food was even more fantastic than it was before. We started with the buratta which was sooo good. I had the chicken with asparagus and she had the salmon on risotto. I am not normally one to eat salmon but I tried a bite of hers and it was amazing. The chicken was juicy and so good with the garlic sauce. For dessert we had the 3 flight with the lemon Bundt, crème brûlée, and chocolate tart. All three were unbelievable. We will be back many times. read more

Really a classy place! We went into the bar area first and had a martini made by Page. She's been a bartender for 15 years! The glass was chilled and the martini was perfect. Then we went and had dinner, Aaron was our server and he was one of the best servers we've ever had! Our food was so delicious, I had the sea bass and my husband had the lamb! The bread with the oil and vinegar was great to snack on before drinks came (and honestly so good I think it might have been my favorite part of the meal ) The drink I ordered was incredible but on the Valentine's Day menu so not sure it's on the regular menu. I really enjoyed the ambiance and most of the food here! The not-so-good: I think one wine in my flight was corked, and our crème brûlée didn't set, so it was mostly soup with a sugar crust. Now, the girls we were with did get a set dessert, so this may be a fluke. We did have to constantly shoo flies away from the table, too. The good: Our waitress, Ashley, was very accommodating and observant. She asked what kind of wine we typically liked before selecting. The flatiron salmon salad was quite delicious. Salmon was cooked perfectly. The dressing has a sort of cardamom/clove vibe that I wasn't expecting, but I finished the plate. The mushroom risotto was fantastic. Lobster nachos were fun and I believe the chips are double-fried to be very airy. Bechamel sauce was nice with it. I would definitely go back for a date. This place is awesome. The staff is great, they're always attentive, friendly, and happy. Their cheese boards are pretty amazing, always hit the spot. My favorite wine there is Cotes Du Rhone. The wine and cheese flights are fun. The prices are on point. And my personal favorite their sober menu, I've had a few of their mocktails, and they are always awesome. This past weekend I hosted an elopement party at Stafford House and everything went PERFECT! This location is beautiful, it's a whole vibe. Such a peaceful environment! They offer multiple packages to best fit your guest list & party. We chose the platinum package and they took care of everything for me. They setup this beautiful grazing table for 50 guest. Marco was our server & he was AWESOME! He was on top of his game. We had different wine options, including nonalcoholic and mock-tails. Found this place on a whim. What a beautiful surprise. Enjoyed a delicious lunch with the prettiest ambiance and holiday music in the background. What a great dinner out! We had early reservations for a birthday celebration. Although the menu is overly large there are options for everyone! We started with the lobster nachos. Very good and not what you would expect with enough to share. Our table had the seabass and a filet. The bass was cooked well and so buttery... it melted in your mouth. The filet was seasoned well although slightly overcooked (but not enough to complain at the time). A side of the mushroom risotto was fabulous. The chef graciously prepared one dish without sauce or seasonings for a guest that has dietary limitations. Creme Brule with a candle for the birthday celebration! Yum. The restaurant is beautiful with decor that makes it feel like it has been there forever. It embraces the history of the space and feels intimate. My husband and I stopped in before and after the Candlelight Concert that was adjacent to the restaurant. This place is a hidden gem! The vibes are classy and romantically cozy. We were served by Ashley in the lounge, she was attentive, delightful, and offered great recommendations. The cocktails were fresh and well-made. We tried the old fashioned made from Ironroot whiskey, and the Blackberry Smash Whiskey Sour. They go the extra mile and even garnish the garnishing. The blackberries were dipped in honey and crusted with sugar. I ordered the Stuffed Airline Chicken. It was flavorful and perfectly seasoned and cooked. The risotto was scrumptious and I even finished my roasted veggies. I observed lots of salads coming from the kitchen and they looked plentiful and fresh. Our server was very nice, but I believe they were a bit understaffed last night. Drinks, appetizers, and entrees were very slow to show up. The stuffed mushrooms and bruschetta were good, but our server should've warned our group of 6 that each appetizer came with only 3 pieces. Kind of skimpy for what we were charged. She dropped off my lobster bisque and I had to wait another 10 minutes for her to bring me a spoon, because she (apparently) forgot about it. My bisque had cooled quite a bit when I finally got the spoon. Having said that, the bisque was pretty good. But along that vein-the bisque bowl is AWFUL. It's meant to be cool looking with a super wide rim for a pretty presentation, but the reality of it was, it made the bowl super awkward from a user standpoint. I had to lean waaaayyyy over to get to my spoon, and the bowl was hitting me square in the chest at the same time. The bowls need to GO. I had the stuffed airline chicken, and it was pretty solid. My husband had the ribeye, and it was...good (not great). Slightly overdone (he ordered rare), and guessing it was more like USDA Choice or Select, definitely not Prime. Not really up to the mark for what they charged. The mushroom risotto is very good. The "seasonal vegetables" on the side were nothing special. Pretty decent wine selection. The chocolate mousse is good. The ambience is quite nice, but the service was pretty slow. Dinner for 6 ran around $600 before tip with appetizers, entrees, a couple desserts and a few drinks, nothing crazy. Be sure to check out the menu and prices online ahead of time and plan accordingly. Just don't go there if you're short on time. read more

PLEASE READ BEFORE SPENDING YOUR HARD-EARNED $$$: Where to start? ...How about the dining area~ I had a front row seat to viewing the doors swing open to where the dirty dishes are washed...which by the way...is the same door that one's food comes through. Next, I ordered filet mignon & requested that it be pink on the inside and no red. Later, my steak arrived...I cut into it while the server was still at the table...only to discover that it appeared raw reflecting a deep, dark maroon-colored middle. Next, the chef arrived at our table to basically inform me that they cook differently than the Texas Roadhouse down the street (I wouldn't have thought that this was an insult until it was actually repeated 2x. Condescending little pr*ck!) and then he moved into a full-fledged dissertation about proper cooking temperatures, how the server didn't know what she was doing because she was new, and what I needed to exactly say as it pertained to cooking temperatures in order to get what I wanted, etc. Fast forward thirty minutes after my cooked steak had yet to arrive at our table... My "mushroom risotto" which was delivered a half hour earlier was now cold. I use quotation marks because it tasted like some sort of mush concoction made from a box which was difficult to readily identify...maybe prepared with the dried cheese used in 'Kraft Macaroni & Cheese' (the latter of which is a childhood delicacy for many of us, so I'm not pooh-poohing it...in fact, it would have been better than what was actually served). .....Next, don't even get me started on the sad vegetables which were also now cold that appeared to have slimy, snail-like brown globs of only God knows what - onions? - on the broccolini. Anyway, after my friend who had already downed her entire salmon salad and no main entrée had arrived for me, I wanted to leave and walked out the door but not before dropping over a $100 + giving 20% to the server. Afterwards, to the owner's credit, she did approach my car with my $49 filet boxed up in a styrofoam container which I declined and invited me to return at some point in the future. Wait...what?!? ...And, while this place left a bad taste in my mouth, the McDonald's hamburger on my drive back home to Big D did not disappoint. Guess I am possibly white trash after all : ) ...Oh, and when I phoned Texas Roadhouse to inquire how they would have handled the situation, they stated that they would have made it right without excuse & the meal would have been on the house. Lastly, before you might begin thinking that I was asking for a free handout from this establishment during/after all this misfortune....from the get-go...I said that I wanted to pay for my meal and I did~ ...Still, it never crossed their lips to even offer to makeup for the screwup! ...So, if you want to have a possible nice meal completely ruined by incompetence...then, this is your spot!!! ...But, I hope better for the next patron~ read more
