I been here a couple of times here now and each time is heaven. parking is not the best but the food is worth it. I usually get the Pappardelle Al Brasato.The portion is huge compared to other places which is great and doesn't lack any flavor. Service was great and attentive. the vibes were chill and enjoyed my dinner here. The calamari is incredilbe light and not coated in breading.

We had a reservation at 7:15pm and we were seated immediately. It wasn't too crowded when we went on a Friday night. The food was great! There were so many options to choose from. Our server was amazing and was consistently checking in on us.

The gnocchi was ok. I prefer it other places. It was more dense than others I've had and I prefer them more billowey. The flavor was good though. Service was great. The tiramisu was good and had a lot of coffee flavor. They build it in front of you. Calamari was good and crunchy. Was here for a friend's birthday. It was nice. The cake was delicious and not overly sweet.

We went last minute for our anniversary and got seated almost right away. We started with a bottle of Moscato and some bruschetta. The Moscato was nice and sweet, and the bruschetta was super tasty. I didn't get any pictures, but I had the lasagna and my husband got the half rigatoni. Seriously, that lasagna was probably one of the best I've ever had. So meaty, so hearty, just amazing. Everyone working there was so nice and helpful, and you could really tell they all worked well together as a team. We're definitely coming back!

I really wanted to like this place, but overall it was a disappointing experience. The biggest red flag for me was seeing the cheese wheel being stored right next to the bathroom, covered with just a napkin. That alone raised serious concerns about cleanliness and food handling. And the server would place the pan of rigatoni on the bottom uncovered Service was actually good -- the staff was nice and attentive, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't match. The meatballs tasted like frozen, pre-made ones, and the sauce was very basic and bland. The garlic bread and marinara were honestly not good -- the bread had a strange, off taste. The lobster ravioli with shrimp was just okay, nothing special. The "special" cheese wheel rigatoni with sausage was the biggest letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the pasta was overcooked and mushy -- definitely not what you expect from a dish that's supposed to be a highlight. The wine also tasted very basic and underwhelming. The only thing I genuinely enjoyed was the spicy margarita -- that was actually really good. Unfortunately, between the food quality and the cleanliness concerns, I won't be returning.

A very mixed review. The appetizers were very good, the calamari was perfectly light and crispy, and the caprese salad with delicious pesto was a hit. But, both of our pastas were just average. They actually forgot the sausage on my pasta, and by the time a side of it came out 15 minutes later, it didn't taste very good anyway. The staff did make it right by removing the upcharge and giving us a free dessert (which was really appreciated). I wasn't a huge fan of the seating arrangements. The tables are so close together that the waiters constantly bumped our plates and forks just trying to squeeze past. Sadly, I don't think I'll be back.

First time visiting. We started with the Burrata Caprese. It was light and refreshing, although I would have preferred more pesto and balsamic glaze. For the mains, we had the Pappardelle Al Brasato and Carbonara. Both dishes were good but not "wow." The pappardelle al brasato had a light beef flavor with a touch of some type of truffle seasoning (no mushrooms in the dish). The sauce had a description of "truffle cream sauce." The sauce wasn't creamy at all. I thought the sauce could have been a bit richer. Again, both dishes were still enjoyable. The cannoli was your average cannoli. Service was amazing! Very attentive and friendly. I loved the atmosphere - it had an elevated rustic farmhouse aesthetic. Overall, I still had a great time! I would def try a pizza if I ever return. I saw a table with what looked like a pepperoni pizza, and it looked really good!

I came here on my birthday, it was a rainy night and the restaurant was empty but felt very homey and intimate. The staff is wonderful, kind and knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. The appetizers were DELICIOUS, both the calamari and the burrata are a must. The sauce on the burrata was so good i could eat it but the spoonful. The calamari was breaded and seasoned to perfection. The fettuccine Tartufo was so good and rich. The pasta special they had wasn't as good - it needed to be more balanced in taste. Over all very beautiful restaurant and a great place for Italian.

**3.5 stars** It's an adorable Italian restaurant that justtt missed the mark for me. While everything we ordered was rather good, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I got the Mediterranea to start followed by the Paccheri Salsa Alla Vodka. The Mediterranea salad was one of the most beautiful salads I've ever seen! With heirloom tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, pickled red onions, capers, and arugula, the colors were beautiful. It also tasted just as good as it looked! Super refreshing and plentiful. Onto the Paccheri Salsa Alla Vodka... If vodka pasta is on the menu, I am almost always going to order it and unfortunately Rusticucina's just wasn't my favorite. It tasted more like a cheese pasta and I wasn't getting too much from the sauce. Maybe I need to come back and try a different pasta? Overall, it was a great dining experience! The service was friendly and attentive and the interior was very warm and inviting.

If you are Visiting SD and looking for an Italian Restaurant that features a Cheese Wheel than Rusticucina is the place to Eat. My family and I decided to give this place a try and I felt like we won. Started off with some Delicious Calamari (great flavor, not greasy). I ordered the Classic Lasagna and it was very flavorful, you can tell it was made from scratch (I loved the sauce). My daughter ordered the Chicken Parm with Noodles (She rated it top 3 she's had in her young life). My wife went old school and ordered Chicken Alfredo. My other daughter ordered the star of the show...Fettuccine Tartufo which was made in the Cheese Wheel at our table. I tried it and fell in love. Rich, creamy, cheesy with mushrooms, truffle, and flavored sausage. It was DELICIOUS... I highly recommend this restaurant and strongly suggest you order what ever is on the menu for the Cheese Wheel The service was excellent. Very professional and constantly checked on our table refilling our drinks.

The evening began promisingly, with an appetizer that showed glimpses of care and balance. Unfortunately, the experience declined considerably once the main courses arrived. Both the pasta and pizza were excessively salty, to the point that finishing either dish became genuinely difficult and this observation comes from someone who generally enjoys assertive seasoning. Service, regrettably, lacked the attentiveness one would expect at this price point. I ordered a Coke yet was served a Sprite instead. The drink also took far too long to arrive because it had apparently been forgotten, and I had to follow up again to remind them. At this point it merely served as an attempt to counterbalance the overwhelming saltiness of the meal. To the restaurant's credit, the waiter later offered a complimentary dessert in an effort to recover the experience. However, the gesture ultimately misunderstood the issue at hand. The concern was never the cost of dessert, nor the price of the meal itself. Dining alone, my bill came to approximately $98 before tip, plus an additional $20 gratuity. The pricing felt appropriate for the establishment; what did not align with expectations was the execution, consistency, and overall hospitality. What disappointed me most was the absence of refinement in details that should have been carefully managed in a restaurant operating at this level. A memorable dining experience is built not only on quality ingredients but also on balance, precision, timing, and thoughtful service from beginning to end. Unfortunately, those elements were missing throughout the evening. As I prepared to leave, a woman dining nearby with her husband and child asked how the pizza was. I answered honestly: overwhelmingly salty. I ultimately boxed the leftovers, though they will likely remain untouched before eventually being discarded. That alone perhaps summarizes the experience best. In hindsight, I should have followed the recommendations from Yelp. Instead, I chose to try somewhere new in the spirit of spontaneity. Regrettably, that decision ended in disappointment, and it is not a restaurant I intend to revisit.

1/23/26: When you don't want the night to end with your donna bellissima, your ADHD kicks in, and you remember the Cheese Wheel Tik Tok you sent her the night before! My cute co-pilot maps the spot. It's on the way home! Il destino! And as luck would have it, we find parking in front of the restaurant 3 minutes prior to free parking! Molto Bene! The Drinks - a chardonnay for my darling diva & a Spice Up Your Life for me. Keeping the tequila theme going from our prior adventure. Fantastico! The Food - we started off with the truffle fries while we waited for the main event! Cheese Wheel! Our server went over the specials & we decided on the gluten free Fusilli Pesto with chicken. Just as our drinks are half done & we plate watch (like people watching, but with food), the Cheese Wheel makes its entrance! All hail the Cheese Wheel!!! Our wheel man began to whip out a little torch & slice off pieces of cheese like an artist. Presentation points for thee, signore! As he dropped in the pasta & chicken, we gave him the "More cheese!" look that we desire artery clogging quantities of parmigiano! We were not disappointed. Deliziosa! The Dessert - My confectionary cutie chose the dessert, Crème Brûlée. It was almost as delicious as my date. And why not have a French dessert at an Italian restaurant! This is San Diego! But yes, definitely a hit! Bello! The Staff - I cannot say enough about these lovely people. From our hostess who said "15 minute wait" & sat us in 10, with last minute reservation, on a Friday night. To the servers & wait staff who practically anticipated our next move. I don't think I ever saw my water glass empty. Bravissimo! TL:DR Good things happen when you are with good company.

Rusticucina is my favorite place to get a cheese wheel! The price is roughly $38 but the portion is big enough to serve two. We like to get the cheese wheel and a few appetizers! The arancini are okay. They came out cold for us but the flavor is good! They did taste as though they were frozen but still good. The pasta wheel was a cream sauce with chicken and veggies. They torch the cheese wheel to melt it a little before throwing in our pasta. They needed to maybe melt the cheese a little more because it was slightly lumpy but still amazing flavor.

My new favorite spot. Not only does Rusticucina have a beautiful and vibrant atmosphere, but the food is absolutely amazing. Hands down some of the best Italian food in San Diego! I came here very excitedly but left disappointed. Pros: -Service (4/5): Their service was pretty good! There was literally no one else there and in the beginning the waiter was very attentive. By the end of happy hour, a lot of the tables were filled and the server just kind of forgot about us. I think overall it was still good, no major complaints. -Food (2/5): Calamari: the calamari was extremely tough (definitely not fresh) and chewy. I would NOT recommend getting this! Eggplant parm: decent but I've had better and also not worth the price tag. It's like 3 pieces of cut eggplant and then doused with cheese on top. Pasta was slightly overcooked. Chicken parm: rubbery chicken and slightly overcooked pasta. I left here extremely disappointed. I think I might be willing to try something else, but I wouldn't put this place as a priority to visit. FYI they have a small parking lot on the side! read more

Adorable outdoor dining, authentic Sicilian cuisine, friendly staff and just all around amazing experience. The atmosphere here with the fire pits, garden lights etc is so enjoyable! Was able to make a reservation for outdoor seating and they accommodated us needing to push later. We enjoyed the garlic knots & crispy burrata starters, the special of the night was a tomahawk steak w/ truffle and Gorgonzola Mac & cheese (delish), they have build your own pasta and I chose the pappardelle w/ carbonara and it was the right amount of richness, pepper, with onions and bacon. The aperol sour was delightfully refreshing. Chef is from Sicily and it comes through in the menu options/ execution. We will be back for sure!! Highly recommend. read more

Such a cute spot for a meal and the atmosphere here is wonderful!!! The staff was very attentive and I love places like this that have such an authentic feel to them. The staff was not pushy in making us order quickly or hurry up our meal, which was very nice compared to other places that are just looking for maximum turnover rate. I love being in walking distance and will certainly be back again. **NOTE: Does not accept Restaurant.com certificates and is not affiliated with that website. I tried to use a $25 certificate and the owner told me, very apologetically, that he does not know how his restaurant ended up on that website and he's attempted to contact them multiple times to have the restaurant's information removed. He was very sincere and I felt bad because I can see how the mix-up could be bad for his business. The meal was still worth it without the certificate and I highly recommend it :-) Stuffed Mushrooms: Five mushroom caps stuffed with crab meat and breadcrumbs. Very tasty. Garlic Knots: Absolutely phenomenal. The 4 large knots were a fluffy, doughy texture with a lightly fried outer layer and came with a side of marinara. These are not your typical heavy bread knots that you find at some pizza places or other Italian restaurants. I was very impressed and probably could've eaten an entire meal of these. Pappardelle: Shredded short ribs with truffle cream sauce? Yes please! Shared this plate with my boyfriend and it was plenty for the two of us. Great flavor and the meat was very tender. Delicious sauce that also paired well for dipping the garlic knots in. Cannoli: The online menu said "deconstructed cannoli", which I was excited about and hoped that it was similar to what you find at Barbusa, but we received a standard cannoli with sliced strawberry and whipped cream. I was a little disappointed at that but it was still delicious with a fresh, crispy pastry. read more

We came here on Friday for date night (ayeeeee, so nostalgic) and it did not disappoint. The patio was open with awesome social distancing policies in place, server was great, and they even had an online menu so we didn't have to touch much before dinner. Calamari to start, boyfriend got the carbonara with gnocchi and I got the lobster lasagna, SUPER BOMB. Drinks were also tasty! The only thing they could have done better was to leave the lasagna in the broiler a bit longer actually melt the entirety of the cheese on top but it was still great and even better as left overs cuz I broiled that cheese to perfection. Still a five star review! If you're looking for some normalcy and a super cute date night, this spot is it. Honestly, I'd never even heard of them until we yelped places with open patios. Happy we tried it! Quick edit: After seeing pics of other reviews on the lobster lasagna and maybe they need a little bit more time to get that recipe consistent? Wish mine looked like a couple pics that were posted! read more

AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING! SO Fresh, SO Delicious! This new spot opened at the perfect time for a pandemic as the patio is very cute decorated with lots of space and a perfect evening breeze! The happy hour everyday 3-6 always has the best wine choices!! If you have ever been to Italy (or not and just love food) then this is the best spot! As a lover of little italy for years this beats most restaurant with friendly italian team, fresh homemade pasta and cute atmosphere. Very relaxing and like hanging with family! I have never been a lover of carbonara but this fresh dish I cant get enough of! Also dont forget the bread knots or dessert! New spot on my regular routine of restaurants to visit! The owners Marco, Mario, and Nino did an outstanding job to add to San Diego restaurant scene! read more

Ok, this is THE best place to be. Lunch, Dinner or even just for drinks, these guys are incredible. We actually came here twice today. I come at least 2 times a week and I'm happy to call this my go-to whenever I want a lovely dinner with great atmosphere. I love bringing people here for their first time because I know they provide a consistent positive experience. Nino and his boys are the sweetest and you'll definitely be back for more. read more

We learned about this restaurant on Grub Hub. Last night we called in an order (so our food wouldn't sit around waiting on a delivery driver), and wow.... the food portions are huge AND delicious. My girlfriend was blown away by her gnocchi and I drooled with every bite of my chicken parm. After seeing the inside and the patio, I can't wait to bring her back for date night! read more

Came here on a Sunday and had reservations at 7PM. It was easy to find parking. The outdoor seating is adorable. Simple but cute. The waiter was nice and helpful with any questions we had. I ordered the Bucatini Carbonara. It tasted really good! But the only downfall was the portion size was so small. I wish they would make their portions bigger since the dish does cost $23. read more

My absolute favorite Italian place EVER! And one of my favorite restaurants in San Diego, Rusticucina is a must visit. The atmosphere is gorgeous and the menu is to die for. Their cheese wheel pasta is incredible, every bite is so delicious I couldn't stop eating it. All of the ingredients are so fresh and artfully crafted in each dish, they truly serve authentic and decadent Italian flavors. And the CANNOLI- truly the best I've ever had, the imported ricotta is heavenly and I don't think I'll ever be able to enjoy another cannoli the same! Will be dining here very frequently, I'm absolutely in love. read more

Alessandro was such a greater waiter! Friendly service, superb food and a super fun ambiance. The build your own pasta provides a lot of options (different noodles, sauces, and choices of toppings). Ocean was our server and was ABSOLUTLEY amazing. She went above and beyond to cater to our every need. She made great suggestions for both food and drink, and our entire table was more than happy with our selections. If I was giving it an honest review, I would give it an, "eh." Nothing about this place was egregiously offensive. Honestly, a little bit disappointed. We came here for our anniversary after reading great reviews and left feeling a little empty inside. Opted for the "special" that came highly recommended by the waitress, a "cheese wheel tossed pasta with a truffle vodka sauce." They brought out the pasta already cooked and proceeded to "toss" it in a cheese rind that infect had no cheese left in it. Truffle? I didn't see or taste any, which is the reason i opted for that dish. Also small cocktail menu of specially, not so special drinks. If the future of my relationship depended on this dinner, I would say we're headed for divorce. Overall, looked better than it tasted. read more

I gave this place 4 stars bc it has potential to be 4 stars, but it's so new it's definitely not there yet. It had only been open four days so I want to be fair and give them time to figure things out. The ambiance was great, the staff was friendly (and a lot of good looking Italian men ladies )! The food was hit or miss. The meatball and fettuccini was fantastic!! The meatball was cooked to perfection, and well seasoned. The noodles and sauce were a mild, nice compliment. We didn't care for the crab stuffed mushrooms- there was most certainly another shellfish in the sauce (eel maybe?). I wish that wasn't there and they would have been better. The steak was over cooked but tasty. The mashed potatoes that accompanied them were way too bland. No salt, no garlic, no butter taste. Those def need some work! The pizza was well liked and so was the lobster lasagna. What wasn't so great was the logistics. It was very chaotic, seating was cramped, and the staff clearly hasn't found their groove. The restrooms needed attention, and when we asked for olive oil for the bread... we got a ramimikin of butter. THREE TIMES! When they did bring the olive oil, it had no herbs or balsamic vinegar so I do recommend they change that since they serve bread. The bread was only mediocre. Not warm, didn't really taste like it was freshly made. Not bad, just not great. Overall, with some tweaks to the recipes and a little more time I think it will do well. I will def go back and try again in a couple of months. read more

They said they could give us another restaurant recommendation and then proceeded to just dismiss us without even that courtesy. We go back to verify this age limit, and it's there... one TINY line 2 scrolls down on the page, WAY beyond any of the information needed to just book a table, which is the only thing Open Table is used for. Complete waste of time for a poorly advertised bar with zero helpful staff on a dumpy street by the airport.

I ordered sea bass, most expensive thing on the menu, $45. The plate looked beautiful. The fish did not flake off perfectly, it was "globulie" inside, the texture was off. I thought it was undercooked but it didn't smell fishy and I was hungry so I didn't say anything. Future me would regret that. They literally covered up the fact that it was an old piece of fish w sauce. I had met my friend for dinner around 8:45p Tuesday March 10. We probably left around 10:30p. Around 1am I woke up nauseous in a bad sweat. Mild case of food poisoning due to the fish they're serving. Thank God I had some carbon pills and Pellegrino on hand. I took one pill and started feeling better in a matter of 20 mins. Woke up within the hour, same nausea and terrible sweats, sooo bloated. Took another pill and the nausea subsided. All this for about $100 dollar dinner (I had two glasses of wine and left a good tip, the service was good). I left her a Benjie and only took $2 bill I got back as part of change, leaving server the rest. So disappointed in my hundred dollar dinner. I don't trust this place to go back and would not recommend. The next day I was better thank God but still super bloated and had to eat blandly. Really wanted to like the place because it's walking distance from my friend's place and also would have returned w bf, who loves fine dining. Nothing fine about the fish I was served, it was definitely bad. I know the plate looks pretty but I should have followed my gut instinct given the texture because my gut was hurting afterwards. Went here for brunch and it was an awful experience. First, they tried to seat us inside which I don't think is allowed right now and in my reservation I specified I would like to be outside. Second, after they sat us down it took them 20 minutes to bring out silverware and glasses. The waiter said he would be right back with water but forgot about us so we had go track another waiter down just to get water. Third, whoever runs their social media doesn't communicate with the restaurant. I had reached out to them via Instagram to ask about bottomless mimosas and they said they still had them but when we got there they said they didn't. We finally are able to order our drinks and food. However when the food comes out it was cold and not good. I ordered the iron omelette with lamb, carmelized onion and cheese for some reason I had the tiniest piece of lamb on one side, cheese and tomato sauce. It was a very busy night, but the wait staff was so attentive and we felt so well taken care of. Just got home from a wonderful dinner at RustiCucina! My belly is very happy & satisfied :) On top of the great food, the experience was unmatched. I felt like a part of their family. We ordered their table side Cheese Wheel Pasta, which from the name and the description, indicates that the food will be made table side in front of you. Your paying for a show more than anything when you order this. So to come to find out that they made it off to the side for us especially on a Valentine's dinner, it ruined the vibe of the night.
