We recently asked our friendly butchers to introduce us to something we hadn't previously tried here. I grew up rurally and had never eaten pork chops bought from a store until moving away. Same with ribs. My father, a Journeyman electrician had friends who farmed and sold their own pork. None better! Rusty Nail's pork chops, especially their porterhouse cuts, are even better than the ones I recall so fondly from my youth. Tender, perfectly marbled and flavorful like none other. They're not "grocery store" cuts. We also bought a rack of baby back ribs. My least favorite step in smoking them is removing their membrane. Not only was this (attention to detail!) step already completed, they were fall-off-the-bone highest quality. So good! Unlike when I was young these chops can be grilled to medium or medium-well if preferred, preserving their juices and maximizing flavor. These too are now on our dinner favorites rotation. Simple seasoning with salt and pepper is all that's needed, although next time we're trying their seasonings. We will continue shopping here regularly. We've referred every friend who enjoys value and great meals too--in other words we have suggested to everyone we know to give these great people (and local ownership!) a try. We are really lucky to have this butcher in the area. Pros 1. Prime beef 2. Wide variety; everything from chicken to alligator (yep, you read that right) 3. Very helpful and friendly employees 4. The loaded and twice baked potatoes when they don't have much pepper (just a personal preference). Just reheat slowly in foil until soft and melty. Trust me. They are delicious. If you want one with less pepper just choose one with less black specks. 4. Amazing price when they have a sale. For their anniversary they had 10 pounds of prime beef (their choice) for $110! Phenomenal price and great cuts were in my mystery box. Cons 1. Save your receipts just in case you need to return something. I bought two whole chickens that ended up smelling off/bad (rare instance that this happened here). I was able to return them because I luckily still had the receipt. I would recommend the meat shop to anyone looking for some fresh meats or even exotic meats in the freezer section. They had everything from bison, elk, venison, alligator, frog legs, to even ground camel! The frozen fish section was also superb: Lake Michigan fish, crawfish, Dover sole... I had heard good things about this place and my experience was amazing. First time in and just checking it all out when greeted warmly by a really nice person and asked how they could assist. I just needed a couple of nice cuts of meat for a Saturday night dinner at home for 2. They showed me some selections and we settled on a couple of fine looking prime NY Strips. Got some steaks about a month ago, and again went today. The staff is friendly and the meat quality is top notch. The Scottish salmon also looked absolutely incredible but we didnt get it this time because we wouldnt have been able to cook it until 3-4 days from now. That is definitely our next item to purchase. Today I ended up getting 2 prime ribeyes, 2 American Wagyu steaks, Beef Jerky, and Breakfast Sausage + 1 polish sausage. Super happy with my experience from them. read more

My wife had been in to shop at Rusty Nail Meats before, but this week was my first time. Rusty Nail is located in the center on the SW corner of Scottsdale Rd and Shea Blvd, just around the corner from the BevMo in the same center. When I first walked in, I was struck with 2 things...the place was immaculately clean and everything was very well organized in the display cases. The staff was very attentive about asking me if I needed any help, but didn't bug me while I was looking around. When I had a couple of questions and needed to make my purchase, they were right there. For the record, I am very particular about my meat and seafood. I don't mind paying a little more for good quality ingredients. All of the meats in the case looked amazing and very appetizing. I could have easily spent a couple of hundred dollars stocking my freezer. The good news is that the Rusty Nail is close enough to where I live and so conveniently located, I don't have to "stock up". I can visit them for the week's shopping and also see what they have that might be especially fresh or interesting. Also, their seafood looked awesome. In many markets, the quality is hit or miss, so I usually end up letting what looks fresh and good drive my selection. No such issue at the Rusty Nail. It all looked fresh and delicious. I was also pleasantly surprised by the prices. Nothing was out of line with any of the other premium markets in the area. In some cases, their prices for prime meats were as good or better than the price for choice cuts of beef at other markets. While I only ended up walking out with a couple of NY Strip steaks (which were beautiful, by the way), I will definitely be going back to the Rusty Nail. Great meat and seafood, good prices, great customer service...what's not to love? Just a quick final note, I grilled the NY Strips I bought last night and made a green brandy peppercorn sauce for them. OMG, the meat was delicious. It had a wonderful beefy flavor and a nice chew (we do medium-rare). I was VERY happy with the choice I made at the Rusty Nail. I came to Rusty Nail the Saturday before Valentine's Day and I thought for sure they would have been picked clean but they had an abundance of great meat still available. I got 2 filets and the staff was very helpful in terms of best way to cool them on a Traeger. Be careful here!! I came in to purchase some steaks and saw they had dog food as well. AWESOME!! Grabbed a few dog containers and asked an employee, "this is such a great deal! Is this normal?!" Poor customer service. I called in advance about purchasing Beef Femur Bones sliced the long way (Canoe Cut). The employee said they had 1 package in stock and would cut additional femur bones if I wanted more. I drove 12 miles there, and when I wanted to purchase additional femur bones, they said they would not cut them in half until the next day. They should have told me that they wouldn't cut them that day when I told them I was on my way in. read more

Good selection and inventory, yes, but the quality just didn't taste superior from any chain grocers (imo). There is no labeling from who, what, where meats were sourced (ie: local farms & locations). Clean, yes. Plentiful availability of all types and cuts of meat, yes. (chicken, pork, beef, jerky, lots of sausages, seafood, salsas, buns, prepared sides) I wasn't looking for bison or other game meat, so can't comment on that. Staff, my own personal interactions, never smiled or had recommendations or input to their selections. Maybe I came in on a bad day (Saturday) and everyone was annoyed to be working? Maybe they are secretly getting their product from Safeway across the street? Maybe I am totally biased and a complete meat snob because I was 100% lucky to have past endeavors with small farms in CO providing multiple outlets to supply my carnivorous needs? I just question what really is the hype? OMG I have a local butcher!!!! I admit, I've just recently discovered Rusty Nail, but I'm hooked and rave about my experience. I picked up homemade sausages (hatch, brats, and andouille)...delicious! I love the seasonings given to each different sausage; not heavy handed and the grind is smooth and consistent. HOWEVER, I strolled over to a freezer to see what they had; impressive. Past the venison, bison, rabbit...duck, ect. I discovered....Prime Short Rib and Brisket hamburgers.
