I love my Rusty Dozer!! This board allows me to get into all wave sizes. I can't wait for the next big swell to test it out.

First time at Rusty's Surf Shop in Del Mar and such a great experience…read more We were in the area for lunch and ice cream and decided to wander in because our girls have been really excited about boogie boarding... and to be honest, we know absolutely nothing about it. We also love supporting small businesses when we can, so this felt like the perfect stop. Right when we walked in, we noticed how clean, organized, and well-stocked the shop was. There's a ton to choose from, which could feel overwhelming, but the two women working behind the register immediately stepped in and made the whole experience easy and actually really fun. They took the time to understand what we were looking for -- something beginner-friendly that the girls could enjoy without it being too advanced. One of the boards the girls were drawn to was actually more high-performance, and instead of just selling it to us, they guided us to a better option. Honestly, they saved us money and probably saved us from a frustrating first experience. They walked us through how to properly size the boards, explained what to look for, and even set everything up at checkout -- attaching the leash and showing the girls how to use it. They also gave a few quick tips that made us feel way more confident heading to the beach. That kind of service is rare. We also picked up a rash guard for my husband (great quality, he loves it) and a cute little shell bracelet that was perfect for the beach vibe. Is it the absolute cheapest place you'll find a bodyboard? Probably not. But the quality, the guidance, and the customer service more than make up for it. You're not just buying a product here -- you're getting help from people who genuinely care that you have a great experience. We'll definitely be back next time we're in Del Mar.

They were very friendly, real calm atmosphere. Helped with questions I had, but didn't hover over…read moreme.

Highly recommend whether you're a local or tourist!! they have group classes for kayaks (2 person…read moreor 1 person), surf lessons and snorkeling lessons. We did the 2 person kayak and originally booked through TripAdvisor but next time, we'll book directly through them after realizing they're a local company. It was around $100 for our 2 person kayak which seemed reasonable for a quick day date. Make sure you're 30 minutes before your booking time so you can check in and get supplies for your activity. For kayaking, it was a 90 min event and it's helpful to wear a swimsuit since you'll get wet and have a chance to swim. They took us through parts by the coast and we got to see lots of different fish and sea lions. Tip; make sure to bring water proof, floating bag for your phone since lockers can be $6 and I wish we would have brought our GoPro for the underwater views. The tour guides Thomas and Spencer were knowledgeable and helpful. We had a few guys who were in our tour that kept going overboard and the guides were patient with them even as the guys got a little annoying with their kayak intentionally tipping a few times. Overall, I'm really glad we went and will be back for other activities with friends and family.

Hubs enjoys Lion Coffee, and we use to always grab a few bags when in Hawai'i, but haven't been in awhile, so Leilani's comes through with a stocking stuffer - or two! I also picked up some cute Hawaiian themed Christmas cards and Honolulu Cookie Co cookie bites and Punalu'u Taro Sweetbread! Took my mind back to the Big Island with the first bite! Broke da mouth! IYKYK!!! Staff is filled with aloha and, if you're lucky enough to see Auntie Leilani when you're here, take some time to talk story. She's a beautiful lady I look forward to seeing. Of course we had to check it out! It's located in between Victory MMA & Fitness and GuilTea Cravings on Clairemont Mesa Blvd in Clairemont. There's a huge parking lot with ample parking spaces around. My boyfriend and I were just browsing around the area and the first thing I noticed was the variety packs of Noms, a fun gummy bear snack with a mixture of flavors. It's apparently become very popular since we left the islands, and I've been seeing it more and more often. There were also other great snack options such as li hing snacks and crack seeds, taro chips, etc. There were also a lot of local food mixes such as Hawaiian curry, Adobo, etc. Besides food, there was a section of jewelry, clothes, flasks, etc. A huge variety of items here! We definitely don't need to go back home to get these things as now we know there's an option in San Diego, haha! The owner mentioned that if there were some things missing, we can make a request for them to try get the item. Amazing! Will be bringing my non-Hawaii friends here in the future!
