We went to Rusty taco after work today. We were not greeted &, had to wait a long time to order a drink. The bartender was too busy chatting with all the men at the bar. She over-served some of them -one of them was so drunk he threw his glass of alcohol which landed on our table behind him and shattered, leaving me covered with glass & alcohol. The bartender said nothing, no apology, did not come help clean up glass or offer me a towel to dry off. It didn't seem to phase her at all. Makes me wonder if this doesn't happen frequently. She handed the large, thick shot glasses to one of the men, and when he threw it at me, when I asked her if she Knew who threw , her response was, "IDK where that came from." I am used to the original rusty taco in Dallas since that is where I live so when I saw they had one here I had to stop in. The tacos were good but a little lighter on the toppings than I am used to at the original one. The queso was great. Chips were a little old but not too bad. First time here, ordered three Texas tacos and a Rusty taco too. Chips and queso for the appetizer along with water and tea. We waited longer than we expected for our meal, finishing the queso and nearly the chips. When we finally got the the tacos, they were fully stuffed and quite tasty too! We went here for dinner on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy. We thought the tacos were good but not great; they go really heavy on the sauces and there was a lot of filler (like cabbage). One of our group is lactose intolerant so we orderer no cheese on his and they still put cheese on it (it was the bean taco which could easily be their vegan menu item if they'd make just one taco without cheese and cream based sauce). So they cant accommodate any changes to an order obviously. The grilled cauliflower taco was probably the worst one and we normally love grilled cauliflower tacos. The cauliflower was brown mush which was really just concerning because cauliflower isn't brown inside...Not sure what they are using for their cauliflower but it was really poor quality (or rotten). They really need to work on the bar. There is no bar menu yet and the bar tender couldn't tell me what was on tap or what beers they had. when I asked what local (texas made) beers they had he motioned for me to read the taps myself and didn't really want to give me the time of day. When I asked what type of beer was on tap for specific beers (ie a blonde or an ale from a specific brewery) he didn't know if it wasn't written on the tap handle which was annoying and he wasn't giving me his attention at all to take my order. When I did order the one I picked was empty when he went to fill it so I had to pick another one. I don't drink often so picking a nice beer is a treat for me and I ended up getting a generic mass produced beer even though it looked like they had at least 5 texas based beers on tap but the guy just wouldn't help me out at all. read more

Been here for an 1.5 hour waiting on my food at the bar top mind you, got here at 6:30 ordered the brisket nachos as an appetizer didn't receive it till 7PM, ordered our food 10 minutes later at 7:10PM. Nothing crazy just 5 tacos, and here it is 8:23 and we had to ask the bar when our food would be coming only for them to be surprised we're even asking for our food cause this whole time they thought we already ate... I understand this is a new establishment, but y'all really should've worked out all your kinks as in making sure your hired enough employees before opening the doors. It's sad when there's one cook to 4 managers. I'll update this review when/if I ever get my food lmaoooo. -10/10 don't recommend read more

Margarita was called like the "Rusty B." 8.4/10 Spicy fried chicken taco 2.3/10 (the style of how they fry the chicken will always make it dry, it needs a heavy batter, one that can stand up to the sauce so when you serve it maintains a crunch) Fajita steak taco 5.4/10 (The steak should be the star not the half of a bell pepper they served it with, also serve it was like a spicy cream sauce, I'd say Mexican sour cream, paprika, cayenne pepper, lime juice, cilantro blend and serve on the side and serve it first on a flour tortilla. Corn can't stand up to messiness, and pairs better with steak.) Secret menu fish taco served on flour 8.6/10 (had it blacked, no problems) Chips and salsa 6.7/10 (fine) The vibe was good and nice inside, but if they don't step up the Quality and flavor of some of the tacos we all know this spot will be a asian foot spa in 6 months. read more

Not usually the type to write reviews, however, this place was super terrible. If you want a seasoning other than salt, don't bother, you will not find it here. It was as if someone was briefly told about what Mexican food was to a blind cook. We had the steak fajita tacos, guacamole, salsa, and steak nachos. I didn't think it was possible to ruin tacos and nachos, but this place did it. We did not finish anything it was THAT bad. Let's start with the "tacos". The steak was cooked just fine but no real flavor, the fajitas were hardly cooked or cut for that matter. There were huge poorly chopped peppers that were not very cooked or spicy at all. The onions were fine, but mixed in were cubes of lime rind and all. You heard me LIMES. Not wedges that you can see and use, but hidden small cubes. My mother actually ate one it was that hidden. The cheese on the nachos tasted like velveeta cheese and cold steak cubes on top. None of the salsas and hot sauces offered were spicy. The service was okay. The man that took my order was a sweetheart and while he made many mistakes(giving our nachos to a different person, not giving us the guacamole, and putting both tacos on flour instead of corn) he did apologize and make the nachos and gave us the guacamole. This place was not expensive though and they did have good Mexican coke. People we talked to there did also share our disappointment. This place missed the mark very very badly. read more

This is probably the epitome of midland cuisine. Top shelf prices for mediocre food. And who ever that guy is that reviewed that " the queso is west texas approved" apparently isn't from Texas at all.. I've had better queso from a squeeze cheese can. At least make the queso warmer than room temp.. that would go for the food as well. Cold and almost no flavor except for grease and salt. Brisket nachos, cold, no flavor. And if you want a margarita that isn't from a mix, forget about it. If you work at a bar, that's a standard day 1 at bartending school type of drink. Probably the worst margarita we've had in midland on par with walk-ons bartenders, don't get me started on that place.. but hey, we came here not knowing anyone and met so many new flies, you'd think it was their hangout. Went there for lunch on a Wednesday. I ordered chorizo and egg taco, the chorizo was super burnt. I could taste the burnt char, the egg was way over done. I couldn't finish it. The brisket taco seemed like they used leftover brisket that had been sitting out for way too long. It was dried out, rubbery, not good. The fried chicken taco was great. Funny, cause it wasn't on the menu. The cashier told me about it. It's too expensive to give them another shot. Great concept, bad cooks. 1st timer here.... Upon initial entrance, the place looked great. Good layout and awesome outdoor patio section. That was probably the only good thing about Rusty Taco... since it was our first time, we took some time to look at the menu since no one was behind us in line. When we began to order, the person taking our order was not friendly, nor helpful when asked questions. We decided to sit outside since it was a nice day. Every single vacant table was dirty. Even the outdoor bar top was dirty. I cleaned a table myself. After sitting there for about 10 minutes I was wondering where our chips and queso were, since we ordered that as an appetizer. After checking on it, they told us that we should have gotten the appetizer when we 1st ordered it. (Which didn't happen) Conveniently, when checking on the appetizer, we noticed our food had been sitting on the counter for who knows how long. I guess where we were sitting outside, we could not hear our name being called. We asked for the brisket nachos to be re-made as the food was cold from sitting there. The girl working behind the counter agreed to remake the nachos but laughed and began telling the other employees something. I expressed to the employee that she would not like to eat cold food that you paid over $40 for and thanked her for remaking them. Even though my shrimp taco was cold, it had good flavor so that's a plus. I know it's hard to find good help now a days, but I hope the owner becomes more involved or this place will not last. Manager never came back to check, guess since he graciously let us have tacos we didn't order it didn't matter if our order was right. My husbands nachos had more chips than anything else, mine were so cold the shredded cheese never melted, even a little. Definitely hit or miss but if there is a wait not worth it. Our food order has been wrong or missing items every time. Don't waste your time with online ordering as the kitchen does not start making your order until you have arrived at the restaurant. Came back out and couldn't even eat it the rice was saturated in pungent lime juice. My husbands was the same. After reading the other reviews, I guess I shouldn't complain about waiting 35 minutes after ordering to get our food. There were two of us and when they called our name, I went to pick up our food. They only had my wife's order. I asked about mine and the guy said that was the complete order. I said it wasn't and showed him my receipt. Another guy came over and said he was working on mine. It took several minutes for him to put some shrimp in a plastic bowl with some lettuce. The kitchen staff looked like zombies, just moving in slow motion. I ordered the shrimp taco as a salad ($5 more). Yep, $5 for a couple ounces of lettuce and a couple pieces of lime. My wife ordered some sort of taco with Pico De Gallo. Turns out that their version of Pico De Gallo consists of cilantro and onions--that's it. The atmosphere is noisy. They have outdoor seating, which we considered in hopes that it would be quieter, but the temp was 103°, so we stayed inside. I doubt that we'll ever go back. read more
