I love going there to get their special cheese, enchiladas, and the girls. There are super sweet to me.

Ordered beef enchilada received cheese enchilada, taco shell was soggy and both were cold! The beans and rice were good! Ive been eating from this place for 30 years and never had this happen very disappointed! Also, never understood if you dine in you get complimentary chips and hot sauce, if you take out you pay for them! I guess i should go in and mess up the table, plate and utensils so they have to wash them! I bet that cost more than the chips and hot sauce! read more

Ok, I get to travel a bit around Texas and I get to some places a lot of other people may not get to. I caught a bit of a cold from some kid and knew I needed the Mexican remedy of caldo. It's kind of tough to find when it's 100 degrees plus here in the Permian Desert. But it my semi-delirious fever induced state I found La Esperanza! Just like the "hope' in the name of La Esperanza, I found the Caldo de Rez that has helped to fix me up. It was FULL of veggies and big chunks of meat (and steaming hot)! Great service along with hot tortillas de maiz and limes. THANKS LA ESPERANZA!!!!! read more

Service was almost non-existent. Food was decent except for the Huevos Rancheros which were probably the worst I've ever tasted. It was just a bunch of sautéed onions on top of eggs with a soggy corn tortilla under neath. Flour tortillas are decent but for the money it costs I would definitely not visit again. How this place stays in business is beyond me. read more

Nice Mexican restaurant in Odessa. I had the Guiso lunch special along with plenty of chips & salsa. Plenty of food at a reasonable price. Staff was very friendly & attentive when I was there. Will be back again. Side note: I like a good balance between sniffling & tongue burning as to my personal "heat" level & their salsa is probably some of the best combination I've had of that in a long time. read more

I have come to firmly believe that 50 of the pounds on my ample body were put there by eating La Esperanza's roast beef tacos. I will go to my grave with this belief. I hadn't been there in over 10 years, and imagine my excitement when I was able to return during a visit "home" recently. I'm happy to say, it's still great... the salsa was the only noticeable change, but it was good (if not a little too much heat). My "old standard" roast beef tacos were still downright friggin' awesome, and the rice and beans were as I remembered, which was authentic and tasty. The dinner plate comes with two of the oversized, overstuffed tacos with rice and beans. It's almost too much food, but on this day it wasn't enough. I was THAT hungry. Our waiter was efficient, if not a little too quiet, and we always had plenty of chips and soft drinks to wash down the gorgefest. Still my #1 place in Odessa. And, I'm glad to see they haven't changed... much. read more

Not sure where the 4 star reviews for this place came from but maybe relatives of employees wrote them. My best advice is... if you look up any other mexican food place in Odessa, TX ...Go there, not here. The flies, (Like 5+) were buzzing all over our food, faces, etc and it was as if that was "normal".(and you know why flies are attracted to places right?) The cheese queso aka "RICO cheese from a can" was a big let down. Really? Cheese from a can for $5!!! Chips were cold because the place had the a/c blowing all over the food. The prices were "airport" prices. The food itself was subpar and as if they knew they could get away with it. Anyway..Seriously..I am a Mexican food junkie and have travelled the US eating the best. This place doesn't even merit a second look out your rear view window. "BUT the waitress was very nice." go to Taco cabana, Taco bell, anyplace else including a chain, I don't care but you pick....and you wont have wasted your time. That's the impression this place left on me.' People with LOW standards would like this place. read more

Excellent food and service! The Chilé rellenos, grilled shrimp & steak, and caldo were freshly made and tasted wonderful!

Visited a friend in Odessa and we visited this restaurant. He highly recommended and he wasn't wrong. Huge portions and friendly staff. The salsa is excellent!! Only problem is they have Margaritas on the menu, but they don't actually have them. Apparently, they don't want to spend the money to reprint menus. You really should, but that doesn't take away from the excellent food. read more

Great cheese enchiladas very authentic I am very pleased with this place. But the con is why I didn't give it five stars cause it took 1 hr for our food to come out that is ridiculous come on next time I hope it won't take that long. read more

We eat here regularly, and the food is always awesome. However the pace of service and speed of food is completely the opposite. Lunch usually takes at least 30 minutes for the food to hit the table from the time the food is ordered. Depending on the server you get, usually you have to flag your server down for things that should happen without asking, like refills and napkins. If it wasn't for the food being as good as it is, we wouldn't eat here, because the service is ridiculous. read more

I hate to be so negative on a place I used to enjoy a lot. We've had small glitches before, but today's experience means my husband and I won't be back anytime soon. The service was horrible. At 1 p.m. the restaurant was a little busy, but not packed. It took almost 20 minutes just to get our order taken and our drinks. By 1:50, we still didn't have our meals and my husband had to leave without lunch. The only excuse given was if "I had known you were in a hurry, I would have pushed your order up." I think a one-hour lunch is pretty standard. My food was average today when it is usually great. They didn't charge us for my husband's order, which was good since he only got chips and salsa for lunch. read more

First time here...this was one of my sister's faves back in "the day" which I think in her case means the mid 80s. And as we all know, the 80s are back...kinda. Also came highly recommended by a native (gringo) Odessan recently. I rarely venture to the West side of Odessa unless of course I'm headed back to Cali, but I thought I would pack up the car and head West for a taste of 'Hope.'. Turns out said Hope tastes like grease and processed cheese. The decor and atmosphere is cool and clean. The patrons were also cool and some of them seemed to know their Mexican food. Service was somewhat slow and forgetful but honest about her forgetfulness. One of the things I love about TexMex is the chili con queso. The cocinas on the West Coast simply just don't do queso the way it is meant to be done, most don't do queso at all. While I liked their tacos better than Delicias, though not as much as the queen bee Rosa's, their queso was terrible. I wasn't sure if I was at the movie theatre for nachos or in my kitchen with microwaved Velveeta. For shame. Soy una gringo y yo se meyor. Tsk tsk. Also, my man, who is a much bigger foodie than I, got the Mexican plate and complained of the grease. This place has all the potential of being great again. Great atmosphere, great hours, good location, strong following, but they are cutting corners. Start cooking from scratch, reassess your staff, fix your queso, use fresh ingredients and perhaps then your once loyal following will return. Until then, I will not. In this case, as with so many, 'Hope' is just a ploy. But with Faith, perhaps, one day La Esperanza will once again be able to fulfill its name. Or so we can only 'Hope.' read more

This restaurant was one of my favorite places to go when I would go to Odessa probably x2 a year. But this restaurant has gone downhill not only the food , prices are out rages they even charged us for the tap water, service was so slow very disappointing. Don't be scared to go in by the outside of the building. Service was good and so was the food. I was with another couple and we had two toddlers. The waitress was very accommodating and patient. Portions were good size and everything tasted fresh. They sell pitchers of draft beer and the queso was delicious. It's off the beaten path but a place you should try. I decided to take my kids out to eat at this restaurant in between dr appts today. MISTAKE!!! First of all, my kids were sitting in their chairs just laughing. Not bothering anyone or anything. A lady came up to me and told me I need to keep my kids quiet because they are interrupting everyone's lunch and being too loud. I look around and we aren't sitting next to anyone. And I see three other kids running around, throwing stuff off of tables, and screaming. But I was the only one that something was said to. 2nd. I asked to speak to a manager and was told that she was the manager. And I needed to shut my kids up. 3rd. We just went ahead and finished our lunch. And went to pay. $40 for a enchilada lunch plate, a cheese nacho plate so my kids could share (because I was told they don't have kid menus), one tea and two kids waters. Too expensive for lunch for 1 adult and 2 kids under the age of 4. I will not go back. And will tell everyone I know not go here as well. The only thing that was good was the food. read more
