I'm surprise that I never left a review for this amazing place. I was referred to Rusty's when we're new account owners and we need to find a place where we could find food for our pets that were byproduct-free so that they would stop getting urinary tract infections. In addition to this - - I love towel my friends would get Santa pictures with their pets and Halloween costume contest with their pets over the years. Our cats unfortunately have always been too skittish, I would always look forward to the Santa pictures and refer my friends. Nowadays, Rustys is still running strong. They are so dependable in the customer service is through the roof. If you were looking for quality brands with good prices, look no further than Rusty's in Studio City. I took my little dog in for a teeth cleaning, and it went very smoothly. Destiny took care of her and she was literally done and under 15 minutes. I had called Destiny because my dog was a little lethargic afterwards and there was no anesthesia used but I never got a return phone call which was disappointing. Very quick and professional. The only thing I didn't like, was feeling obligated to tip when the procedure was so quick. I chose the lowest percentage tip on their screen, but it still took my total from $155 to $178. Will be back, but choose a lower tip option next time. read more

On the worst night of neighborhood fireworks ever, my dog, Lucy did the best she's ever done. It's 100% thanks to Alex, the GM at Rusty's. I went there to buy a Thunder Coat, because she's been so miserable every night over the last few months. Alex told me a better strategy was to up her doses of CBD oil. He told me it's totally safe, and effective. He was absolutely right. We doubled her dose, and she was much calmer. I thought she might have a doggy hangover this morning, but she's her normal self. I brought my both of my dogs here to be groomed because their pricing is more reasonable than most places. I arrived at the time they were scheduled to be completed but I had to wait an additional 45 minutes for the groomer to finish. My dogs had already been there for three hours. No problem. I get it. It was around the holidays and they were busy, but one of my dogs came out traumatized. He was shaking, his body was convulsing from stress and even after I wrapped him in blankets and tried calming him, he kept shaking for at least 2-3 hours. I even bought him a sweater there to wrap him in, other clients tried to soothe him but something was wrong. So, it has been about two months since that visit. And he has only been groomed there since then. He developed an ear infection that spread to his eye. His eye ulcer was the result of partial facial paralysis, which was the cause of the ear infection that had spread to his brain. The bacterial infection, meningitis, took his life. My beautiful, lively, funny dog who was only 2 1/2 years old is now dead. And I blame it on the negligence of the groomer at Rusty's. Trust your dog. There is a reason they do now want to go in that room. And that they do not allow you to accompany your dog inside of that room. This is a warning for you not to take your dog here to get groomed. The other services are fine. My dog died even though he was treated at his vet and then at emergency services at VCA . The bacterial meningitis had caused his brain to swell and his lungs to fill with fluid. It was a horrific way for a pet to die and could have been prevented (had I spent more money to groom him elsewhere, or just shampooed him myself at home). read more

So super grateful for Guillermo and all the staff at rustys. I get all of my pet food there because they are knowledgeable and caring about what they do. Most people there have been there for YEARSSS! They know what they are talking about. I was suggested some probiotics and hip/joint supplement for my dog who had an injury and the products are great. I would never have known the difference of what to get before. I love that I am supporting small business as well and their prices are not that much different from Petco. As for grooming, I always bring my dog and although she doesn't like water she always leaves happy as a clam to be so clean! And I just found out they will do cat grooming as well!!!!! Long overdue glowing review for one of our most beloved pet shops. My Husband and I feel so fortunate and grateful for Rusty's and their AMAZING staff for well over 10yrs. Honestly I don't know where our animals heath and wellness would be without them. I can't express just how much we depend on their years of experience, first hand knowledge and continuing education about the TRUE facts of the foods they offer for our fur babies. Guillermo especially, he's got a PhD it seems with his years of speaking directly to the company's that make and manufacture all the food and treats they offer. The entire staff is like that. And they've never pushed a food like our vets do, that isn't healthy. No matter the vet, they always push a brand that we KNOW is full and of harmful junk, that doesn't support a long and healthy life. It's incredibly frustrating and sometimes overwhelming just trying to figure out what's best for our babies, and not money in some corporate pocket. The staff is knowledgeable and patient with customers as it can get busy from time to time. They have a great range of products, toys, treats and food. I have 2 cats and one had a UTI issue and we were able to find food and treats here that were great for this problem. Be aware that the parking lot is a little small but if you're coming for the pet store you really shouldn't have an issue. read more

Rusty's is a great place to get high quality pet food but this location in particular is SO welcoming! This store has some of the BEST customer service I've ever seen! Making the switch to healthier pet food can be scary and intimidating but these guys helped me find everything I needed. Everyone in this store is super friendly and helpful! As a woman who's also been recognized in public as past stores, I feel super safe here. I usually avoid shopping all together but these people are such a bright part of my week! Let me say first and foremost I have been coming to a Rusty's for 5+ years. That should go without saying that once I find a place that I love I am truly a loyal customer. Rusty not only has affordable prices and products but so is their grooming! They have a wide selection of items for all sorts of animals, I go there for my dog and cat but I believe they have items for birds and rabbits too. They have loyalty programs on a lot of their products and it's not only to dog food but even vitamins or cat litter (just to name a few) just ask the staff and they will let you know. OH and also you get to see Rusty the dog walking around the lot sometimes which is always an extra plus to come visit, he's so friendly! My dog is a senior pup who doesn't always get along with other dogs and her nails grows really fast, the staff recommended getting the nails cut outside since she's a mamas girl too which I had never thought of! After that I was sold! I've never been to a pet shop who are so accommodating! In addition to the nail cutting they do have great deals on grooming and honestly they do an amazing job every time. Lastly, the reason I am so loyal to this place is the staff. They are incredible, informative, the customer service level is always top notch, very friendly, patient and they make me feel like family. They also help you bring the heavy dog food to your car which has always been A+ in my books. My go to guy is Guillermo, he's literally the best! Guillermo truly cares about your pet and is very knowledgeable. I have known him as long as I've been going to Rusty's and that says a lot since I've been going there a long time. He has always gone above and beyond for me and my dog, always giving me amazing tips or recommended the very best for my dog so I trust his judgement 100%! It's crazy times now during COVID. I am really impressed with how Rusty and all their staff follows all the CDC as well as city guidelines in ensuring everyone is staying safe and social distancing. Everyone is required to wear a mask and they l will have you wait outside as they only allow a limited amount of customers in the store at a time. I'm not going to lie I am paranoid in going out but I feel very safe at Rusty's. They even deliver within certain mile radius when you spend $50 and will do curbside pick up if you do not want to go in. If you have read up until now, just know Rusty is my go to place even if I move out of this neighborhood I will continue to come here. Rusty's is the only place I trust to cut my dogs nails and I drive out from Thousand Oaks. The service is amazing and it is super affordable! I have a super anxious small dog with dark colored nails and Guillermo is the only one she trusts! He's never nicked her like others have. First off I love going here, been going here for many moons. All the employees go above and beyond to help me out. I have a special needs dog and they accommodate whatever I need. If they raised there prices in double I still would go here. Especially it these times they follow all rules due to Covid-19. I love all the staff at Rusty and never have I ever gotten any attitude. My favorite pet supply and groomer! I've been coming here for 18 years and it's the only place one of my dogs has ever had his nails clipped! They are so careful and attentive. Guillermo is awesome and typically handles the nail clipping and has great advice on treats and food suggestions. Great selection of high quality foods and treats. I shopped here for years. Probably twenty. The last time I went I had such a bad experience w one of the employees I decided never to shop here again. Basically, I had to exchange something and had called to make sure it was ok because it was an open can. They approved it because it was a manufacturer defect but when I came in, one of the employees argued that they would'nt exchange. Even after I gave him the name of the gentlemen I spoke to. This employee argued with me. Was nasty. Rude. Dismissive. I was floored. I reached out via email to discuss with the owner but he never responded. The last few years they've been raising prices almost every time I step in the place anyway so I now get my product down the street, delivered, for way less money at a little place called petco. Sad but the employees behavior towards a long time loyal customer was abominable and the lack of response form the owner was disappointing. read more

Original review: Parking is quite literally for the dogs here. We showed up around noon, made a quick purchase for our kitties, then wanted to grab sushi next door, however, even though the lot was quite empty and we were already parked, we were told that we would have to valet (or street park) in order to eat at that establishment. Not for nothing but even Domino's has a few spaces in this lot. It is absurd to harass potential clients who have already made a purchase in store and tell them they now need to have a valet move them out of the spot they are in in order to sit and eat sushi for maybe half an hour at most. Sorry can't recommend this establishment and won't return to parking hog central. EDIT: and after reading some of the other reviews, my assessment that this business owner is on a complete parking power trip is 100% correct. I've been to Rusty's before and have usually always had GOOD service. Today I had exceptional service and I have to rave. Recently lost my best furry friend at only 9 years old , with lots of health problems . From all the vet visits I got told all the things dogs can't have anymore. So when given a new tiny puppy I was overwhelmed. Not sure what is safe, what isn't etc. My 6 month old puppy had been on one food for awhile and didn't like it. I gave him freeze dried raw food treats and today vet said NO! So I walked down the food aisles overwhelmed. When I first got there some really nice sales associate (not one I am used too) asked me if I needed help. I said no thanks. Didn't think I did. Ten minutes later Guillermo offered to help me and O said yes. He showed me a few really good ones for puppies and not the most expensive. I'm really indecisive so changed my mind a few times. But he was great and full of answers. Then the owner Terry saw me and gave me tons of advice. From his own experiences and suggestions for products , treats , bones and more. Very honest on what he would and wouldn't give his dog. That impressed me. I buy most things now online and use Amazon and Chewy. But I really like to support the local shops and it's service like this that makes it all worth it. Rusty's is a staple out here and they did a great job the whole team. Being Chips only 6 months I will be there a lot more and more questions . Also The owner has done some great things for the needy and sick animals this year too and it's appreciated. Nice people and have been getting dog food here for years. But very unhappy that the grooming side doesn't do clipping. My border collie is very matted from a rough undercoat and they can't cut the mats out? I don't get it. Just wasted an hour of my morning driving here to find out something as basic as this is not available at a "grooming" facility??? Wish they had mentioned this when I called to see if I needed an appointment. Isn't cutting and clipping a given at a groomers?? So frustrated. read more

If only I could give NO STARS I would. This is gonna be long but I want you to know the whole story. Been coming here for years to get my fur babes groomed (including my cats but not for a while cause it got be too much for them there (please know this was only once in a while, especially if their claws were too long) and buy them goodies. So the last time I was there to get the doggado groomed I noticed a lot of dogs seriously barking like they were under stress, coming from the grooming area when we arrived. I walk in with my pup and asked if they are really busy? Thinking maybe that's why it's louder than usual. The guy at the counter said no, it's not too bad and I proceeded to check my pup in. Thinking I'm all set, we start walking over to the grooming area across the parking lot to meet the groomer. My dog stops to browse the treats, I let him shop for his own when we're there usually. Please know my dog is older and does walk slow but is totally capable of walking and fine while getting groomed. As we approach the groomer waiting for us at the door (who I've never seen there before), he stops us and says he's "TOO OLD" for them to groom and they have HAD incidents with senior dogs before. Completely shocked I said you guys groom him all the time and we were just here a few weeks ago with no problem. He replied that he would to check wIth the front desk. I said ok and followed him in the store. Keep in mind that front desk had just seen my dog when we checked in and all was gravy. I was then told that yes, he was too old and they couldn't do it. He also then mentions that they've NEVER had an incident but don't want anything to happen. So which is it, have they had incidences before or not? I questioned who was lying cause their stories weren't matching. My dog and I left the store and as I was pulling away I flipped the groomer off. I know this was wrong but I'm being open and honest. I was upset and got defensive over my dog. I returned a few minutes later, walked in and said to the guy at the front that I wanted them to delete my information as I will not be returning. He said he would do it later so I repeated myself and then he got mad and said he would but not right now, don't tell him what to do and leave the store! I said I will leave but I want you to delete my info. He didn't and who knows if he did "later", I don't really care at this point. As I was driving away I flipped the groomer off again and mouthed FU (I know I know). The groomer then flippeed me back off several times while yelling FU back. Now mind you he was the only one that saw me but there were customers in the store that could clearly see and hear him. This was completely unprofessional. My dog was age discriminated by this groomer. How would the owner feel if Rusty was discriminated against for his age and was told no, we can't service or care for your dog because of his age. Not to trilled I'm sure. I then went down the street to Sam's GreenPaw (see review, if you'd like) with my dog. I explained to the very friendly gentleman what just happened and asked if they had a concern with his age. The answer was NO and they'd be happy to book an appointment for the very next morning since they were booked for the day. Note: their prices are about the same if not slightly cheaper and they include ear cleaning and a little more during the bath and care time. I really hope these people at Rusty's stop discriminating older fur babes, not lie to customers and get their sh*t together or just close down for not treating customers and animals as they should be treated... read more

Family owned Rusty's Pet Center is really the best. The "team" is extremely nice and this place has virtually NO turnover. The boss treats employees Very well and they stay. Nobody quits!! btw: I have never Ever had a problem with parking at Rusty's. They have numerous labeled parking spots That said, I do know that the sushi restaurant next to Rusty's often uses their parking without permission!! Not cool. I wouldn't go anywhere else. This is by far the best pet store I've ever been to and have been going here for about 22 years for all my pet needs. Guillermo, the manager, is phenomenal. He is the one I request to cut my dogs' nails and ask all sorts of questions to when we have fleas, special dietary needs, you name it. Our pups are vegan and this place carries their food, which is a rarity. Guillermo is so kind and patient with everyone, though the entire staff is on point, knowledgeable and good with the animals who come in to say hi. We usually come her to get all her food and toys and for Guillermo to do her grooming because my dog won't let anyone touch her unless is Guillermo... They did a great job of cutting my puppy's nails about a month ago and they took the time to explain the CBD products to help with my puppy's pain yesterday after his neutering surgery. I like supporting local mom and pop shops as opposed to the bigger chains. I bought some CBD treats yesterday and it did help my puppy relax a bit. I wouldn't say that their products are exactly discount prices but they are fair and I know the overhead for keeping a business open in Studio City can cost a lot so I can't complain.
