There are so many good bagels places in NJ, so it makes it rough for me to give out a perfect score. I'm a tough critique for bagels because I love them very much and the texture and consistency of the dough can make or break for me. Rutherford Bagels & Deli is absolutely one of the best bagel shops in the area. If you're around here, the service and vibes are very homey and comfortable. This is really just a convenient spot to get breakfast if you live in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. The service was really underwhelming. Not very friendly at all when we were ordering. Just got a toasted poppy bagel with Taylor ham egg and cheese. It was alright, really nothing to write home about. Bagels taste very generic. Eh, I'm getting used to Taylor ham, egg and cheese mediocrity in our area. We ordered by phone and everything went smooth and everything was ready when we got there. Service was excellent and the order process was very smooth. My son said the sausage, egg and cheese was "good" but that's coming from an eight year old. Taylor ham, egg and cheese was average at best. Cheese was barely noticeable. Egg was scrambled, which I'm kind of digging lately since I've found places are doing that here and there. Taylor ham was a little over cooked. Would I go back? No. If I lived in town, would I go back? Out of convenience and good customer service... Yes. I watched as he took off his gloves, washed his hands thoroughly and put on clean gloves before coming over to take my order. Just went there before heading home from church. Ordered two breakfast sandwiches, and both were wrong. My bagel sandwich wasn't toasted, no cheese, and a not so generous portion of Taylor ham. The sandwich on a hard roll is also a very small portion of Taylor ham. In today's world, you live and learn. So this place gets a check mark in the never to return list. This place is more than just a bagel shop - though I love their plain and whole wheat bagels toasted with nothing on them. My friends enjoy them also, though typically smothered with butter or cream cheese. A few of my friends have gotten the sandwich varieties with eggs, bacon, etc and really enjoyed that too. I can also speak to the blueberry bagel toasted with jam being delicious :) I have enjoyed going to this place for three years - you can even get "gas station" french vanilla cappuccinos - not to mention a variety of flavored coffee (chocolate raspberry?), pancakes, and sandwiches too. They also have really good lox and assorted meats (it also being a deli). I wish the coffee were a bit stronger, but that's my only complaint. Love this neighborhood gem. read more

Came here 2 times this week based on references. If I just stuck with the bagels, they might have earned another star.... 1st time I stopped by, I ordered a sesame bagel, cut, with a side of scallion cream cheese. The bagel itself was pretty good, freshly made, not too doughy with a nice crust. The cream cheese was standard fare. The 2nd day I stopped by and saw they offered a 2 egg, turkey bacon, and cheese sandwich. I was a bit hungry and opted to get that with a hash brown as well. Not to happy with either to be honest. The sandwich just wasn't that good, it didn't feel like 2 eggs, was bland and the turkey bacon felt a bit rubbery. The hash brown was soggy and not very tasty either. Overall, if you come here, stick with the bagels. read more

This place is in walking distance so I find myself only going here out of convenience. I'll start by saying the bagels are just Meh, they are tasteless, bland and small. Even the bacon, egg and cheese sandwich's are tasteless. The bacon is so over cooked it just cracks to dust when you bite into it. Did I mention tasteless ? D&D across the street makes a better bacon, egg and cheese sandwich and that's sad to say. No issues with the service or staff nor the coffee and drink options. read more

This is a pretty solid choice for a good bagel sandwich if you're in the area. Nice staff, fair prices. Tasty bagels with fresh ingredients. Not a lot of other options in terms of fresh pastries and things, but they have a deli case and pre-packaged goodies. Ok, so I still love this place, but I suggest ordering only during the week and avoid the weekends. Just now the owner charged my credit card, then used my credit card to charge the next customer somehow. After showing the owner how to read his receipts, he gave me the cash back. This has become my family's go-to bagel shop since moving to Rutherford. We lived in Jersey City before this and were looking for a place to fill the huge void that Wonderbagel left. This place is small and unassuming, but they have great bagels. Not sure about another review regarding small bagels, because these are good-sized, and they make a lot of varieties. My favorite is the everything bagel, but plain and french toast bagel are also sure to please. I often get the new york style bagel (lox, cream cheese, tomato, red onion). This sandwich is great and they don't skip on the lox! Definitely my favorite place in Rutherford/East Rutherford, of the four we've tried. The only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is because that rating is reserved for Wonderbagel (try it if you're in JC!). read more

Our family has been coming here for years... This is the nice small business friendly place that we all want in our neighborhoods... On the weekends, you almost certain to run into a neighbor or kids going to the game or practice... I'm not a coffee drinker, so I can't comment on that, but I can tell you the sandwiches, bagels and burritos (our fav) are really good. We have a big family and we have tried most of them.. The bagels are big, never doughy. When family or friends come from out of state, they never want to leave without a bag of fresh bagels for the trip home... Friendly staff..
