Representing a Louisiana established restaurant is Ruth's Chris. Although most of the Louisiana is west of the Mississippi River, New Orleans, where Ruth's Chris started less than 2 miles from the French Quarter. The founder was Ruth Fertel in 1965, and she sold steaks for $5 back then, which is the equivalent of a $53 steak in 2026. I'd kill for a $5 steak...haha. Unfortunately, looking at their Gaithersburg menu, the least expense steak is $60 for a petite 8 oz. I was curious to see New Orleans was cheaper, and that same petite steak is $56. Excellent steak (if I'm not paying), but not worth it. I've only been to Ruth's Chris twice. When I was in high school, I talked about going to Ruth's Chris sometime, and my dad would always say no, or if you're paying for it, we'll go; I quickly shut up when he said if I pay. However, after my high school graduation in June 2002, we went to the Phoenix, AZ location on my dad's dime; more like over $100 for the 3 of us even in 2002 dollars. The Phoenix location closed around 2017 as there was a location only 8.5 miles away in neighboring Scottsdale, so probably just didn't make much sense to have 2 of them so close together. The Scottsdale location was more central for wealthy populations in Town of Paradise Valley as well as still pretty upper crust City of Scottsdale. I visited the Gaithersburg location once in January 2020 with my girlfriend of that time. Neither of us paid! Don't worry we didn't dine & dash. Her friend sent us an invite to a Financial planning talk, which included a free meal to Ruth's Chris. We sat at tables facing the presenter with various strangers also let's be honest, mostly going for the free meal. But to be fair, I listened to the man's presentation and was considering, but never got around to it. As for the service, it was top notch. We had a pre fixe menu to choose entree, side, & dessert; I think salad too. I definitely got the steak, but they had some seafood options, but Ruth's Chris is known for steak; so I stuck with what I knew. I don't remember which side I got; maybe asparagus, mashed potatoes, or Brussel sprouts. I actually have the Jan. 2020 pic of the dessert, which was a cheesecake, which had strawberry, blueberry, & raspberry on the side. It was delicious too, but the real highlight was the steak. I didn't have the traditional dining experience at Gaithersburg, which is pay for a side, which is maybe enough to split for at 2, and the steak, which is sold a la carte, salad is a la carte, etc. If you go to another common steak chain, say one with a neighboring state in the title to LA established Ruth's Chris, you get a Ribeye with 2 sides included. Sure, it's more of a 4-star steak (prime rib is 5-star there), but paying quadruple for a steak/sides I'll maybe enjoy 50% more isn't worth it to me. But I'll be happy to go back if it was paid for or was significantly discounted. In summary, Ruth's Chris is an excellent steak if money wasn't a consideration. read more

This is my second and final review, as I will not be returning. I took my best friend out for her 40th birthday dinner. There were three of us, and our bill was about $1,200. We ordered three of their good wine, Caymus, Duckhorn & Silver Oak. We were the last guests in the restaurant after 10 p.m., enjoying a great evening. Henry, our waiter, was wonderful, and the food was great as usual. However, the experience was completely overshadowed when the manager, Michael, approached our table to "correct" our language. There were no other guests nearby, no complaints, and we were not being disruptive in any way--we were simply talking among ourselves and may have used a couple of mild curse words. Henry can attest to this. Michael's tone was rude and condescending, and the interaction felt unnecessary and out of line. I'm not sure if he felt the need to say that to us bc we are minorities? I really don't know but he was completely out of place. It's unfortunate that Michael's conduct was the reason this restaurant lost our business. The mashed potatoes are fine. The seared tuna is fine. The rocks rita margarita somehow tasted like bananas. My 16 oz Ribeye dripping with fat, the only flavor being butter and oil, flavorless creamed spinach which I could not finish, chunky spinach and artichoke dip. I took my husband here for a "make-up" birthday dinner, just the 2 of us. We had originally planned to celebrate here on his actual birth date, but I surprised him with dinner somewhere else instead with a bigger party, which he wasn't too happy about, so this was my chance to make it right. He's private and not a fan of birthday fuss. When we arrived, we were about to be seated at a small table near the door. It just didn't feel right for the occasion, so I asked if a booth was available. At first, the host mentioned they were all reserved, but I spoke with Mike, the manager, and explained the situation. He was accommodating, and we lucked out when a booth opened up. Our booth was set with a birthday card and confetti, such a thoughtful touch. Brandon, our server, was great! We knew what we wanted and ordered right away, 2 ribeyes cooked with truffle, 1 with a lobster on top, plus mushrooms, creamed spinach, mashed potatoes, and lobster mac and cheese for sides. Everything was delicious, and the steaks were cooked perfectly medium. Just when we were ready to get the bill, Brandon surprised us with a birthday cake. My husband gave me a look (since he does not like attention), but I quietly thanked Brandon, and we ended up enjoying it. It was really good cheesecake! 'Twas an awesome birthday dinner. We used to always go to the Ruth's Chris in the Bethesda area, but that one closed a while back. So this is the closest one. We had happy hour here and it was great. The Zucchini fries was a bit less that before but everything else was the same but different price of course a bit more than before. They were quick to get our order and we were able to place pur drinks order right away and our happy hour food. It was very good. I loved it. I love the ambience too the chairs were comfortable and the seating wasn't too crowded unlike some places. This was a good location too, you can walk around afterwards. read more

Ordered food togo online and was met with EXTREMELY rude hosts. I went to sign my receipt, exed out the tip because I tipped on my order already and one of the host boldly made the comment "we knew that would happen". The comment was extremely unnecessary and unwarranted. This was the first time ever coming to this location and it will be my last. Ruth Chris is mediocre at best so to even have that kind of service displayed is crazy. I've passed by Ruth's Chris many time and have not stopped. Recently I met with a friend to continue my birthday celebration, bit we didn't quite nake it for their happy hour. For our main appetizer we ordered the Calamari and Tuna, I've had many Calamari and Tuna appetizer before, but theirs was exceptionally tasty. Our choice of cocktais I had a 9 oz glass of their Cabernet, but I don't recall the brand, my friend had the old fashioned. Service was really good and fast, great staff and we loved the bartender he offered good recommendations. Since we weren't going to do table service and chose to sit at the bar the atmosphere was good, we were able to speak and hear each other. For your first visit to Ruth's Chris I recommend going during happy. I will revisit them during happy hour at some point when my schedule permits.. read more

A truly outstanding experience. I've been to steakhouses all over the US and normally avoid chains but given my son's birthday wishes and the weirdly not-good options in the DC burbs Ruth's Chris won the toss. Holy cow was it a good call. Everyone in the family is super picky but me (ha). The place was about half full on a Sunday evening and enough bustle to make it fun. Of course it's all special occasions. The front desk staff set the tone, our waiter was charming and they have enough staff so someone is always around. I got a NOLA mule cocktail as it's a New Orleans based approach. In fact we stuck to a lot of the 'Ruth's Favorites' and I recommend it. Things are a bit spicy and there's plenty of remoulade and creamy stuff happening. So the food: they bring nice warm mini baguettes and butter. We got the house salad and the barbecue shrimp to start. Son didn't care for shrimp (which were great, big, and succulent so good for me) but enthusiastically mopped up that sauce with bread. Daughter got sea bass, huge chunk cooked like steak, excellent. Son got 'the filet' which was fantastic. Wife did too. I got a mini filet (8 oz) with 'Oscar style' which adds crab cake asparagus and a great bearnaise sauce. They were very kind about the birthday putting special glitter on the table, focusing on the guest of honor and putting out a cute little cheesecake for him at the end. I visited location yesterday set in lounge area and had a very disappointing experience. After being seated, we were never given a menu, We waited 30 mins with No services , which made the visit confusing and uncomfortable from the start. As we were leaving, instead of anyone checking in or apologizing for the lack of service, a staff member asked whether we had left the check on the table. That felt unprofessional and was an odd way to end an already poor experience. And that has never happened to me before at any restaurant. Basic communication and service were missing here, and based on this visit, I wouldn't return. We've eaten at several Ruth's Chris restaurants over the years, including the original one in New Orleans. Last night, the Ruth's Chris in Gaithersburg kept the flame alive. Uncle's spicy shrimp appetizer was nicely cooked and the sauce was indeed spicy; very nice. Wife's French onion soup was tasty; the beef broth was very rich. Uncle's crab cake was good, my ribeye was better than good (great piece of meat, perfectly cooked, maybe a tad undersalted), and wife's filet was great - fork tender and juicy. Steaks were served in the Ruth's Chris signature sizzle plates with melted butter; best leave your $1200 suit at home. Crème brûlée and coffee were good, and wife's vast slab of carrot cake was also tasty. Service was patient, good-humored, informative, and efficient. Restaurant is huge and well laid out; tables aren't crowded, and quiet enough for conversation. Parking in the structure behind the restaurant was convenient. Only downside was dropoff and pickup of passengers; street by the front door is narrow and busy. You're better off dropping your passengers back by the parking structure and walking to the front door. read more

I recently started a self-challenge that called for me to hit the gym no less than four times a week; I decided to reward myself after a month of my new routine with a delicious, high-protein dinner. My friend and I consulted with each other and then the Yelp app; our consensus was steaks at Ruth's Chris, so that's exactly what we did! Before this visit, I'd never been to their location in Gaithersburg before; I'm very happy to report that the food here was every bit as good as my most recent experience with the Manhattan Beach location in Southern California. The service here was exceptional as well :-) We shared our meal family-style. After seeing that the menu includes a full gamut of not only the regular, boneless steak choices but prime, bone-in steaks as well, we decided on a boneless NY Strip and a bone-in Filet. We specified that both steaks should be cooked medium-well, and when they arrived they were seasoned to perfection and cooked precisely as requested. The side dishes were very good, and the selection of wines available by the glass was not only reasonably priced by there was a surprisingly good selection. To be fair, the wines by the glass are about the only part of our meal here that was reasonably priced, but if you don't want to settle for anything less than an incredible steak dinner then I think you'll find that the food here is worth every penny! read more

It's official, Ruth Chris has fallen off. We ate at this location for the second time on Christmas Eve. This Ruth's Chris may be one of the chain's worst locations, period. I would put this location on par with Outback or Applebee's, only with a much higher price tag. We sent the drinks back twice, the steak was overcooked and cold. The wedge salad's dressing was just horrible. The great news is that the customer service was impeccable. The server Isaiah was knowledgeable, funny, and eager to please. The Woodford Reserve Bourbon cocktails paired with the four course pairing was absolutely delicious. The charbroiled oyster was paired with a Kentucky Berry Fizz. Yum! The pork belly was paired with a Run For the Roses cocktail which was made with WRWiskey, Vanillia-Strawberry-Rhubarb puree. Very nive but my favorite was the Burgoo paiared with a Kentucky Barrel Rush, which was comprised of WRDouble Oak Bourbon, creme de pe`che liquer, lime, spice brown sugar and black walnut berries. It's been a while since I've eaten at Ruth's Chris Steak House. The food and service is still wonderful. My friends and I dined here recently to celebrate something. One friend and I each ordered a 16 oz. bone-in filet while my other friend opted for the prix fixe meal, choosing the lobster bisque, steak & shrimp, and mashed potatoes. Her meal also came with a mini dessert. We also added a side of creamed spinach. My medium rare filet came out perfectly, while my friend's filet was a little overcooked for her liking, but they brought her a new filet. However, they forgot that she had opted out of no butter. I really enjoyed my steak. It was very tender and delicious. The creamed spinach was really good, but the mashed potatoes could use a little more flavor. Because of the steak mistake and we were celebrating something, they gave us free desserts. They even gave us a congratulations card as soon as we sat at our table. I left full and happy! We were there last night, 9/14/25. The staff was great, very attentive as usual. My wife got filet and a lobster tail and I got a filet with crab topped shrimp. The steaks were fabulous, cooked just right and tender as can be. Unfortunately none of the seafood was any good. The shrimp and lobster were tough, obviously over cooked. The crab was served small crab cake balls, and were less than average. Tons of filler and the crab, while there, played a minor part. Nobody from the mid Atlantic area would serve those at their home to guests. Just a reminder really that this is a steak house so stick to steak when dining here. read more

What a phenomenal meal! Henry took such care of our party of 6, guiding us to some excellent dishes that we might have overlooked and keeping us laughing. Everything was delicious, from soup to nuts. My prix fixe dinner was just right, but trying extra bites of the tuna appetizer (not pictured), the stuffed mushrooms (not pictured), and the stuffed chicken was the icing on the cake. Of those appetizers, the tuna is the one that I would try again (and again and again!) Shout out to the bar for making me the best virgin drink I've ever had: a virgin blueberry mojito. Despite impeccable service thanks to one of the finest, caring waiters that anyone could wish for- and trying to create a memorable experience for an important veteran of the Department of Defense for her 101st birthday- Steven decided to mistreat several guests from ages 6 to 101. In creating the booking with Steven and requesting the kind, elegant Henry as our waiter, it was mentioned that flowers and balloons and gifts may arrive as gifts. I was then put on hold, but a young lady came on the phone and reconfirmed everything. Upon arrival, Eugenio, said no balloons- despite the cost of $65. He was thoughtful and allowed one 101 balloon . The rest were at the host stand and the 6 year old could greet her great grandmother with the balloons and they would be stored until departure. Steven decided to break her great granddaughter's heart and deny the promised greeting. She cried. I witnessed part of the cruelty. In the past, I thought Steven was excellent. It was noticed by several in the restaurant that Steven walked around the restaurant but never once approached the veteran on her 101st birthday. He said hello to every table, mostly new patrons, yet ignored those of us who paid thousands of dollars in wedding rehearsal dinners, birthdays, etc. He knew he treated us like scum. Despite great baked potatoes and successful filets, the crab cakes were mush with shreds of lump meat except in one of three cakes that had three visible lumps. Being extremely loyal to Ruth Chris in many locations for 30 years, it is obvious this location will NEVER have our corporate business again. I know it's winter and Gaithersburg has had a lot of snow- but the restaurant should not be on the sled ride to the bottom. Shame on them for the hurt. The food and drinks here are always good and consistent. The mushrooms with crab meat were great. I like crab and mushrooms so it was a great appetizer for me. The filet mignon with shrimp was also really good and had good flavors. The steak was seasoned well and the shrimp was also cooked well. I usually get the pomegranate martini here which I love, but this time I had the Cabernet Sauvignon which was good and went well with my meal. 10 of us went to celebrate my husbands retirement - the service was outstanding - just about everyone got steak and they were delicious and cooked to perfection. we got the calamari for an appetizer and it was fresh and perfectly cooked. while the prices are higher than some restaurants in the area, it was definitely worth it! This is our go to place. Whether its to get a bite after running errands or for a quick and easy date night, the service and food is always consistent which is super important. At Ruth's Chris you know what you are going to get which a good thing. I've been to other locations in NY and Puerto Rico over the years and am glad that we now have this location in Downtown Crown near us. Sometimes we get the tomahawk ribeye and split between my husband and I. They changed their ahi tuna it is no longer strips of ahi tuna with a cucumber ginger salad, it is now more like a tuna tarate tower with wonton chips. Still good, although I do miss the old version. They also recently added a black truffle mac and cheese which is my favorite dish there other than the steaks of course. The lobster mac is good, the cheese sauce is not super creamy though. Sea bass is pretty good as well and don't care too much for the crab cakes since they have filling with peppers. I prefer a more jumbo lump crab. Lobster tails are good with butter sauce - maybe about 5-6 oz each. They have a good wine selection and happy hours M-F. They carry my favorite red wine, a Cabernet by Daou. Ive been here over a 100x and pretty much know all of the staff. The Bethesda location closed so they moved some staff from there to the Downtown Crown location and are getting more traffic these days. Shot out to Henry, he is always a pleasure. You also get Chef's choice of desert...all for $71 per person. All of the food was delicious...cooked perfect (we ordered 1 medium and 1 medium well). We got 1 steak w/ shrimp and the other with lobster. Both were good, but the lobster was noticeably smaller than we expected. I checked in and told the desk my friend was coming shortly. I also told them that my mother passed away earlier that day and my friend wanted to support me. I was seated in the main dining room. The waiter was a Caucasian man. He has brown hair and seemed to be on t he younger side. He was more focused on telling me how many employees transferred from Bethesda. His focus should have been on getting water to the table before 13 minutes and letting us know about specials. I flagged down another wait staff member and asked her to tell the waiter that we were moving to the bar area. Once we moved, two wait staff members came to take our order. We were told that Matilda was training so they would both be assisting us. We ordered two dirty martinis. They came incorrectly because of the previous waiter putting the order in incorrectly. My friend asked about potato vodka. When the cocktails arrived she didn't have blue cheese stuffed olives. He didn't follow her request. We ordered and finally we ate our meal. My wife and I had never been to Ruth Chris together and neither of us had been in over 10 years. We like high end restaurants and I received a gift card for $125 so we decided to go. The service was very good and I tipped based on the total check because it was well deserved. The food, not so much. We ordered stuffed mushrooms and spicy shrimp. Both tasted like they were frozen and warmed in the microwave. We ordered a steak, cream spinach, and garlic mash potatoes. The steak was cooked correctly and was very tasty. The mash potatoes tasted like they were from a box, and they spinach was ok. We ordered crème brulee, which was very good and helped with our disappointment. Needless to say we were very disappointed, as we spent a lot and our expectations were not met. We will most likely not be going back. read more
