We went to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for our anniversary dinner at the last minute after our brunch reservations at another place resulted in my husband and I having no food because the other place was comically out of nearly everything on the menu. We've been to Ruth's Chris several times in the past on special occasions and this was a big anniversary so our first thought to save the day! We called to see if we could sit at the bar and eat as we were dressed in jeans and we shared our circumstance. They said head right over. To our surprise, a gentleman was able to seat us in the dining room, (no reservation, jeans and all)! They decorated our table which "Happy Anniversary" confetti and welcomed us so graciously! We had a delicious meal and our server, Brittany, was fantastic! I got white sparkling wine, we shared a chopped salad, followed by crab cakes for me - which were perfection, and my husband had a filet. We shared potatoes au gratin and brussel sprouts as sides and went home delighted that our circumstances took us to Ruth's Chris that day! This location is such a beautiful location too! I dined in & several of my dishes weren't cooked completely. The server was NOT attentive at all. He barely checked on us. Food is over priced & not worth the costs. There were many families in the dining area & it didn't appear 6 feet apart. I noticed other ethnic groups getting more attentive service. This will be a first & last time dining here spending $200+ on meals it should be superb. I've gotten better food & service at smaller establishments with less costly food. My wife and I have been long-time customers, but sad to say the place has gone downhill fast. Steaks are inconsistent and service is just OK. Always been rather expensive, but now they automatically add an 18% "gratuity" to your bill, regardless of whether the food and service are sub-par. We had a reservation for a party of 8 (7 adults and a toddler). We were promptly seated and very well taken care of! Our server was an expert at giving us the proper amount of space -- she wasn't constantly asking us if we needed anything and would come to us if our drinks were low. The food is, to say the least, phenomenal. I chose the filet and it was cooked to perfection (I requested medium rare). The staff were also very accommodating for the little one in our party. If I could give service a 0 I would. Tonight I was very excited to come out and have a date night. I came to the Midlothian Virginia location.  I sat in the bar area with my date. Upon my arrival he already had his drink. When I got to our table I asked the server for my go to drink a lemon drop. The server asked for my ID and I kindly gave it to him. He then asks me for my age and I responded "sir, you have my ID in your hand." He tells me if I do not tell him my age I will not be able to purchase a drink.  I have never had this type of experience here. I have always been able to show my Virginia license and proceed with my order. I asked if I could have another server. The manager Christopher Campanella comes over and I explain that the server would not allow me to order a drink even as I showed my ID. The manager asks for my ID and then follows up with "well how old are." I told him once again "sir I have shown my identification and have never been asked my age while ordering." He proceeds to say that I still cannot have any service because I will not verbally tell them my age while he is holding my license in his hand. The manager did not apologize about how I felt nor the treatment given from him and the server. My partner even told him that before I got here the server did not even card him for his drink. We were confused as to why they gave me such a hard time. When I asked why he said "because we can do that."  We love coming here and felt like we were honestly disrespected. I am well above the legal drinking age and showed my ID liked asked. I felt completely uncomfortable when being asked of my age as if I was lying. I understand some people do that but he had my ID to where he could see my birth year.   To be denied service is ridiculous and ruined my view on the great service I have usually experience. Good food -exceptional service. Cicily was an excellent waitress. We were there for Anniversary dinner and dining room was very nice. Quite surprised to see people in jeans, t-shirts, sweatshirts, etc. since they said 'business casual'. We had the 'classic' - food was good but not great. We went to Ruth's Chris for my husbands birthday, I made our reservations and couldn't wait to take him. When we walked in the hostess looked less than thrilled to be there. It took them 10 minutes to take us back to our table...in the middle of the dining room between several loud diners. I was flabbergasted they would even seat us around other diners since it was the middle of the week and not overly crowded. We kept it simple ordered our steaks and sides. My husband ordered the cowboy ribeye and brussel sprouts...the brussel sprouts were hard and crunchy and lacked a lot of flavor. I ordered the filet and sweet potato casserole...my filet was severely over cooked and BLAND!!! It was not our first time at Ruth's Chris but it will certainly be our last time there. My friend and I arrived at 5:45pm on a Sunday evening with a reservation. We were instantly greeted at the front door, and they pulled up the reservation very quickly. We were placed at a table in the main dining area next to a window, near the courtyard. Our waiter, John, introduced himself asked if we had been to Ruth's Chris before. I had been once before, but my friend had never been. John explained to us two very key points that everyone should know: The steaks are served sizzling on a 500-degree plate, and that the side dishes are served family-style...meaning one side will serve two people. John asked us what type of water we would like - standard tap water, or something from their rather extensive branded water selection. We went with the tap water of course. Next came drinks, a Budweiser for me, and a glass of wine for my friend. We looked over the menus and decided: NY Strip for myself, Filet for my friend. We would share the au gratin potatoes and fresh asparagus. She also ordered a house salad. The salad looked amazing, and I was impressed at the size of it. The steaks came out shortly thereafter and they were cooked perfectly (medium rare for the filet, and medium well for the NY Strip). These were large cuts of meat - no doubt about it. The filet was a solid 8-10oz, while the NY Strip was in the 16-20oz range. As always, the steaks are served with a light coating of butter. Just perfect - absolutely perfect. After dinner, my friend ordered another glass of wine. I want to stress that the service at Ruth's Chris is second-to-none. Everyone was a true professional. They made it very clear that they wanted us to have a wonderful time, and wanted to ensure that everything was exactly to our liking. They did not disappoint. Two glasses of wine, one Budweiser, two steaks, a side salad, and two sides came to $147 plus the $30 tip. Expensive? Yes. But at Ruth's Chris you are not just buying the food, you are buying an experience. I often tell people that if you eat a steak at Ruth's Chris...you will refuse to eat steak anywhere else. This is my family's "celebration restaurant." When we know we are about to go Ruth's Chris we prepare for the day. I know Ruth's Chris is a chain restaurant, but you would never get that feeling from this Ruth's Chris. My aunt, from Georgia, said that they have tried Ruth's Chris in Atlanta and a few other places, but the one in Midlothian is the best. Definitely make a reservation before you come here, and if possible show up a little early so you have time to sit at the bar. The bar area is so cozy here. You can sit down next to the fireplaces, enjoy a cocktail and a few of their delicious homemade potato chips with blue cheese dressing, but don't eat too much because the rest of the food is so delicious. When you sit down at you table and you are deciding to order food, I don't think you can go wrong with anything on the menu. However, you should definitely get steak. I usually split a salad with my sister. The harvest salad is my absolute favorite, probably because of the bacon and cajun pecans and the chop salad comes in a close second. For sides, my family usually splits the creamed spinach, garlic potatoes and the shoestring fries. For the main dish, I either split a filet or get my own petite filet. This is probably one of my favorite main dishes ever. Mainly because your steak comes out sizzling, perfectly cooked with plenty of butter to make it delicious. Very long delay between appetizer and main entree ... I've been to this location multiple times and had generally good experience in the past. When a restaurant gets busy, I understand service can slow down at times. As usual, food was fine as everyone enjoyed what they ordered; steaks were cooked properly. What bothered me was that we waited almost an hour between the salad and the main course, although the place was not super busy and was only half full. I'm thinking maybe this was an isolated incident, but it took our meal almost 2 hrs. without coffee and dessert. We couldn't stay longer because we had be somewhere else; therefore, we were bummed that we couldn't enjoy any dessert. Other than saying our food was coming couple of times, no explanation, no apologies from our waiter. Rather disappointing experience for such an expensive meal ... Edit #2: we went back for valentine's day and everything was immensely better this time. The steak and chicken came out sizzling. The steak was charred and perfectly cooked and very flavorful. The Brussel sprouts were the perfect amount of sweet and salty and the cheese in my chicken was nice and melty. We even got free dessert for my fiance's birthday which was a nice touch! This is the worst ruth chris I've ever been to. I usually love their chicken and I raved about it to the couple we came with and they both ordered it. It was not good. The chicken was dry and the cheese stuffing was less than usual and tasted more processed. My fiance ordered the new York strip as usual and it was virtually flavorless. No char, undercooked/raw, just disappointing all around. I tried a bite of steak, which I don't really eat but usually enjoy from here, and I thought it had no flavor, was not as savory as typical, and was underwhelming for what should have been a great cut of meat. Speaking of fiance, us and the other couple with us were both celebrating engagements. They knew this ahead of time as they asked when we made the reservation. The waiter did not even ask us what the occasion was until we were paying our bills. Now I don't expect "freebies" for celebrations and such but this is a once in a lifetime celebration and people around us were all getting desserts with candles for birthdays and our double engagement celebration was barely acknowledged. I am not often given to eating at steakhouses, in truth. A part of me rebels at going to a restaurant whose primary lure is something I can accomplish on the grill or in the broiler with a sufficiently good cut of meat all on my lonesome... and yet Ruth's Chris never fails to please. The food -is- always cooked perfectly [or hurriedly fixed if something is off], the sides are quite tasty [and that's an important detail that some steak places forget], the staff is unfailingly delightful, and the ambiance in the old plantation house is marvelous. It makes me happy. But my best advice for this location, in truth, is not to just eat dinner there, not quite... My advice is to get yourself a seat at one of the wine dinners- They're expensive, yes, but they are absolutely worth every penny. read more

My husband made his annual New Year's Eve reservation and what we experienced when we arrived was UNCONSCIONABLE! We had an EMMITT TILL experience as a result of a staff member who we come to know as Riley (Carolyn Bryant). Twenty minutes into our appetizer the General Manager, Todd Wilt came to our table with a high voice, big smile on his face appearing to be very friendly and said, "Hello folks my name is Todd and I am the General Manager, how are you this evening?" With big smiles to match his we stated, "Fine thanks and you?" Todd continued and further stated, "Good so I want you to get your things and get out of my restaurant now!" We laughed with him and then his faced turned and I looked at him and said, "wait, are you joking?" He proceeded to say, "no, you can't insult my staff and call them out of their name calling my staff member a Bitch." With a huge shocked faced my husband and I said at the same time, "you have the wrong table, and we were visibly offended." He said did you all have an exchange with the young lady seating you about sitting here in the back? We stated, "NO." I said the only conversation she had with us was when we sat, she was handing me the menu while I was taking my coat off and I told her she could put it on the table. Riley did so. That was the only thing said and then she left. Todd looked at our faces and saw that we were genuinely shocked so he was taken aback. He then asked if we had a back and forth with the young lady who seated us. We both said, "no." Todd then said, "well let me double check with her to make sure I have the right table." We said, "yes definitely because they have a hard enough job and no one should be spoken to like that. Todd left and the two table (one in the front and back of us) began talking to us and said they were shocked. They both said there was no issue when she sat you. They began to apologize to us for what was happening. The one table had closed out their ticket and were sitting and talking but they were so appalled they said, "ooops time to go because this is disgusting and we are sorry this is happening to you all and its embarrassing." By this time, we are embarrassed and humiliated because Todd was loud and other tables heard the exchange and we are uncomfortable. It began to sink in while we waited that this young lady was using microaggressions and racial tropes. For example, we as black people would have an issue with sitting in the back of the restaurant. Also, that we would lack communication skills that we would use profane language to express ourselves. Our belief is profanity is a weak mind trying to express itself. Todd returns and we ask if he found out what table it was. He stated Riley pointed to our table and she was crying and telling him and staff about the interaction. We continued to tell him multiple times it was not true what she told him, and we were very concerned that he has a staff member who would single out customers to say they did such a thing. Todd appeared uneasy but continued to support that he does not tolerate anyone who insults his staff and we agreed that we support him in that. We continued to reiterate that this young lady was NOT telling the truth and this needs to be investigated. Todd was unwilling to consider that there was something odd about her story and continued to support her version. I told him that he should have the same feelings when staff puts him in a precarious situation like this and are not telling him the truth. He did not want to consider that could be the case. My husband and I felt at that point he was trying to get coax us to get out of character in some way so it could justify their actions. As we were leaving his staff was watching and whispering as it was clear the lie spread like wildfire. Riley was watching us leave as well with a smirk on her face. We are a people of class so that was NEVER going to be the case just like we NEVER said such to that young lady. I told him to ask the couple who was leaving because they were upset with his actions and delivery and they could substantiate that nothing took place. He claimed he spoke to them to tell them what happened but clearly, he wanted to sell them Riley's version. That couple was so upset that when we were leaving, they were coming back in to give us their contact information but met us on the steps and expressed that Todd tried to get them to buy into Riley's story but they were aware it was not true and that they too would not be patronizing Ruth Chris again. They stated they were disgusted with his delivery, him making a spectacle of us and that he felt it was okay because of what staff told him. UPDATE:Since this the owner, Paul Sorenson responded and stated that basically he spoke to the offenders above and he nor any of his staff would respond. A few weeks ago I visited Ruth's Chris with a group of individuals. Prior to my visit, I always heard how Ruth's Chris made other upscale restaurants like Red Lobster and Olive Garden look like McDonalds, but I certainly did not want to take anyone's word for it. How did my experience go? To find out, read below. The Good: Service- Even with the large group that I was with, service was pretty good. The server attended to our table's need and corrected any issues that were brought to her. The food came out piping hot and to go containers were provided without request. Taste of Entrée and Dessert. For my entrée, I ordered the chicken breast with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach and for dessert I had the cheesecake. I liked the crispy skin on the chicken as well as the flavors that seemed to work together. All of the food was packed with butter so that alone brought out the richness of the flavors. The cheesecake, while small, packed a mighty bite and was full of richness. Portion Size- The chicken breast appeared to be a full chicken breast of the bird plus a portion of the wings. That alone was pretty filling but the portioned of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach was certainly too much for a normal person to finish by themselves along with dessert. The Not So Good: Taste of the Salad- The salad had fresh greens in it but for me there was not enough dressing on the salad and extra dressing was not brought with the salad. Price- The price is what is keeping me from giving this restaurant 5 stars. Luckily I did not pay for my meal, but had I, I would personally have felt that I didn't get my monies worth. Even with the great tasting food and large portions, my meal had I purchased it would have been close to $50. And that's $50 for chicken, mashed potatoes, creamed spinach and a slice of cheesecake. Had I gone to Texas de Brazil, I could have gotten a bigger variety of unlimited food that is of the same quality for a lower price. Overall- I think the food and services were both great, but due to the prices of the entrees, I couldn't see myself going to Ruth's Chris for anything more than a yearly special occasion. My husband and I went here for our anniversary. First I was surprised how busy it was for a Wednesday evening. The menu was a limited menu due to Covid. We started with fried oysters for an appetizer. They were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Luckily for me the limited menu had everything we wanted for dinner. We had the fillet s. They were perfectly cooked. I love the 500 degree plates that keep the steaks hot. We shared a broccoli and creamed spinach. Both were perfect. I loved the creamed spinach. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the limited selection of desserts. They all seemed a little "vanilla". I would recommend Ruth's Chris. The location is fascinating as the White House located on the edge of a shopping center is a quiet respite from the city. Many historical items to view while waiting. Was a hospital during the Civil War. I have held dinners for birthday celebrations and everyone love it. Most special memory is the take out. My mother was in her final month of cancer. Slow in getting this yelp review written. My wife and I went to Ruth's Chris for a planned enjoyable dinner on September 14th. It did not turn out that way. First the good, the food was excellent. Now the problems. Number 1, my Old Fashion was watered down. This is not the first time this has happened at this location, so I should have remembered. I believe the bar just scoops up ice that has melted and I then get plenty of water. I mentioned this to our waiter. His response was that it is "lazy bartending" and that a customer actually brought in an ice cube tray so that he can have the large cubes in his drinks, so now that I know that I can ask for a large cube. Otherwise you will get the same melted ice. NO offer to redo my drink. Problem number 2. Salads came out in a timely manner. Then the long, long wait for entrees. Different waiters were working our table at this point, and we kept getting the apologies and were told they had a computer problem causing orders to take forever. This was apparent as other diners around us were waiting too. Finally dinner came. While eating, the table next to us (who also had the long wait) had their dinner delivered by one of the managers, who tells them their meal is complimentary due to the wait. What,No one mentioned this to us, nor was nothing said when our check for the full amount arrived. The waitress (multiple servers) apologized for the delays this evening and offered us dessert. We stated that it would have to be a to go order. She did not ask us what desert, she just walked a way. When she came back she had one piece of cake in a to go box. We have dined at this Ruth's Chris many times, but when you comp the diner for the table next to us (whom had a similar wait) and don't offer it to others other than an apology and a piece of unwanted cake you have LOST a long term customer. I hate to trash this place but this entire review will be just that. A trash fest. Made reservations online for 5 but had last minute changes and needed to change to 7. They couldn't accommodate so we made it for 6 and told our friend they couldn't change it. Bummer, but when we got to our table, we realized they could have easily pulled up a chair and we would still had room! This place has definitely suffered the COVID effect. We had a party of 6 bc my son was turning 19 and he missed out on an18 birthday celebration, prom, and graduation last year. So I wanted to treat him. Service was not like it was before COVID. Our server was young and awkward and didn't offer us a desert menu, nor did she offer us what we later saw other people getting for desert. I felt jipped. We had the bread plates on the table but after we ordered appetizers, she never brought plates for the appetizers, which were VERY mediocre. So we were trying not to keep our bread to from get soggy from the appetizers while using our bread plates for the appetizers. I had the chef's special which was salmon and 4 seared shrimp on a bed of sautéed spinach. Wow was everything way over salted, whereas the lobster Mac n Cheese was so bland and under seasoned! Steaks were good but we could make better ourselves with steaks from Costco. Here's the kicker, we made reservations online for this birthday occasion and stated so on the reservation, and when we ordered desert, they dedicated the desert my daughter ordered for herself to my son's birthday. Way to celebrate without giving him a free desert! Not even a free cupcake?!? I think after this experience, all 6 of us have sworn off Ruth's Chris for life. Long wait times in between service, long wait for a glass of water and all other drinks and food and bill . Ordered steak, medium- got it well done. Waiter wasn't the one who delivered the food, and didn't check in until after everyone was done. When I mentioned meat wasn't cooked the man said I should have said something sooner. I came here with my husband on our 1st wedding anniversary on Saturday evening. We booked the small 'red room'. It's a little private room with a table and two chairs and decorated very beautifully. We've eaten in this restaurant many times. It is the holiday season, but that's no excuse for sub-par service. Wife ordered a drink (that she's had many times before) and when Daniel (server) brought it to her she knew it wasn't correct. She tried it and it was not what she ordered. He wanted to argue with her that it was exactly what she ordered. Couple of back and forth a before I asked him to bring her another drink. Then our guests, whose backs were to another table in the corner, were asked by that tables server to scoot in so they could get by to serve. There was NO room to scoot in and it was a very uncomfortable situation as she pushed her way through. She could have easily gone the long way around the round table and served the desserts. Restaurant was full, but still no excuse for this type service in Ruth's. BTW, no apologies from either of the servers. Food still great, as always. read more

Charles and his team were great! We went here for our anniversary and they had forgotten to place confetti on the table so he came out and placed some on the table for us. He even offered to take photos and the service was awesome. The food was great as well as always!! read more
