I was in Wilmington this weekend and looking for somewhere to eat and was hoping for some really good Fried Chicken. Google recommended Ruth's so I decided to check it out. The waitress was really friendly and the food was pretty amazing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant is really tiny and you could easily miss it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The next morning I was up very early for an event and decided to return for breakfast. My waitress was a lady named Lee who was amazing at her job. I had eggs, sausage, grits, and toast and couldn't have been more satisfied. I only hate that it's in Wilmington and not Winston Salem where I live or I would eat there more. read more

The food is great. The service is awesome. I love their vegetables . I love the fried flounder. My great grandson who is 17 months old flirts with the waitresses. He just loves them,and he blows them kisses. read more

Dinner was served room temp almost cold. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The waitresses were up at the counter having a tea party laughing while there was food on the floor by booths and tables that needed to be bussed and cleaned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Is this place under new management? It used to be good. At this rate they will be out of business. Chicken pot pie wasn't even that. Just chicken slop you would expect in a prison no crust at all. read more

In Wilmington once a month for business. Been hitting this place up each trip. It's not spectacular, but is everything you want a diner to be. Food is cooked the way you order, staff is amazing, and it gets you in and out as quickly as you would want. read more

We've been to Ruth's kitchen a few times and as always it has been good! The food is home cooked with dishes you won't find but here at Ruth's. There are specials daily so when you go be sure to take a look. The hamburger steak plate omg is one of my favorites! I love the crinkle fries , gravy on the steak and side of slaw! I'm hungry writing this review! Ruth's kitchen is a staple in the area where you'll meet a lot of locals that come every day to enjoy Ruth's delicious breakfast and lunch. We stopped in on our way to our grandson's football game for breakfast. The restaurant is a relatively small and has homey atmosphere. It consists of three dining areas, a central dining area that includes counter service and two side dining areas. The restaurant is clean, including the bathrooms. Lois ordered a Waffle with Pecans and a side of crispy bacon. The waffle covered the plate and the bacon was cooked exactly as she likes it. Our server said that the first pieces of bacon were too small but she served them as well as the new pieces on the plate, which made Lois very happy. I ordered a single biscuit and gravy (you could order 2 biscuits) with a grilled pork chop on the side. I'm glad that I ordered the single, because it was more than enough for breakfast. The gravy was not the best that I have had but it was particularly good. The pork chop was a little over cooked. For what you get, the prices are extremely reasonable, and the service was excellent. When in the area, we will be returning. read more

This is definitely a southern mom n' pop diner so expect to be called sugar, darlin' or sweetie, which I liked. Makes you feel like family. The place is small and not much to look at. Walking in we weren't exactly sure what to do but staff said to find a seat. Luckily we found a booth because it was busy. The breakfast menu was small but a nice selections and reasonable prices. Our waitress was very friendly and told us they had liver pudding and homemade corn beef hash....southern item you don't find everywhere. We tried the hash and it was good. The meal was filling and good. I'd like to come back for lunch sometime. read more

I'm going to preface all of this by stating that I understand COVID has left a lot of places short-staffed. I have also eaten at a lot of other restaurants throughout the pandemic and have enough background in customer service to know that communication is key, even if it's just "we'll be right with you." I came to Ruth's Kitchen for the first time on my lunch break. There was no clear indication whether I should seat myself or wait to be seated. When I walked in, there were several girls behind the counter and not very many customers in the restaurant. None of the workers bothered to address me so I waited awkwardly by the door for awhile. Eventually someone told me I could sit anywhere. When my waitress came over, she was very nice and took my order. I ordered the ham with cornbread, coleslaw, and potato salad. My food took a little bit to arrive, despite not having many patrons. That was the last time I ever saw my waitress. It's hard to mess up ham for me, but this one was overcooked and over-salted. The coleslaw was bland and seemed to have been sitting out for awhile. The potato salad had hardly any flavor. While the cornbread had miles more flavor than anything else, it too was very dry. All this is coming from someone who grew up with boiled vegetables from my grandmother--so I understand a lack of flavor. But at the very least, have your ingredients be fresh and lacking in flavor! I eventually gave up waiting for my waitress and had to go get someone for my check. What I had been hoping would be a nice southern-style meal ended up tasting like what I imagine they serve in nursing homes. I wish it had been different, because we need more independent southern restaurants. I will not be coming back and advise my friends not to go either. read more

Had lunch today (my first lunch as I have only done breakfast) and again Ruth's doesn't disappoint. Good solid food (nothing fancy here) and for a good price. I had the liver and onions (don't see that often) which I love with a side of onion rings and fried okra. My daughter had the BLT with extra bacon, delicious and with enough bacon to have a heart attack . Good.The entire meal was topped with a banana pudding. If you're looking for a place with good solid comfort food this is the place. read more

I am still learning what the whole "Meat & Two" is all about, and I really enjoyed the meals I've had at Ruth's. It's kind of like if your grandma opened her own diner and then charged really fair prices. I'm pretty crazy about the fried pork chop plate here, and if I can get it on days where the specials are mac n' cheese and collard greens, then I am a happy camper! It's definitely got divey vibes, but we like that from time to time and Ruth's always hits the spot. read more

A typical diner with Formica tables and counter. I was a little disappointed that, while the table I chose to sit at had been cleared, it had not been wiped down. I ordered scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese (0.55 extra), shredded potatoes, and the homemade corned beef hash. The corned beef hash was excellent! Great meat to potato ratio with just a touch of onion. The scrambled eggs? Meh. They were overcooked and a tad chewy. The potatoes were soft and not at all browned and crisp as I expected. All in all, an average diner breakfast. It's very popular with all of the tables filled mid-morning on a weekday. read more

I love Yelp because it helps me find places like Ruth's Kitchen! I highly recommend it to anyone looking for some, home style food that will fill you up and tastes great! Located in a little corner strip mall, if you don't already know that it's there you would never notice it. Going inside, one of the first things that I noticed was that everyone looked like a local, definitely not touristy and this gave me confidence that everyone was there for the food. The interior of Ruth's is definitely dated but is well taken care of and has a comfortable, homey feeling. The wait staff were busy but still took the time to welcome us, and I like that you seat yourself. And most importantly, the food was perfect! Breakfast is my favorite meal and Ruth's hit a home run. Everything is basic, no frills, just good food. I ordered the eggs with corned beef hash and was super happy to see that it was real corned beef hash and not that canned stuff. My daughter got the eggs with sausage links and the sausage was meaty, tasting like something that someone made fresh instead of pulling out of a freezer. I definitely plan on returning to try something from the lunch or dinner menu. read more

This restaurant is like if you were eating food your grandmother cooked for you...if you're grandmother had no sense of flavor, no cooking skills and a weird sense if what should go together with a meal. Locally, people love it...ive tried several times...never had a good experience. Staff isn't bad, they are friendly, but I will never understand the appeal...I chalk it up to southern taste in certain types of cooking...no offense southerners!! read more

Oh my goodness! I love this Wilmington staple. I never thought I would like the food due to the exterior being so small and not the type of food I usually eat but I have found this to be one of my favorite lunch spots. I get delivery from Grubhub and it so inexpensive and good. I love their pasta salad, grilled chicken, salads, even their Tuesday special of spaghetti and meatballs. It tastes like the old diners I used to go to when I grew up in Western PA. Their club sandwich is very good and their side items are $1.65. Unheard of!! Absolutely the worst breakfast I have ever had. I've lived in Ogden 25 years. Ruth's parking lot is always full on Saturday morning. So I thought I would try it. The bacon was okay, but definitely a cheap brand. The white bread toast was somewhere between bread in the plastic bag and real toast. It looks like they threw it on the grill and immediately pulled it off. Soft as a marshmallow. I asked for eggs over easy. But I got eggs that were not far from just cracked open. A big runny mess. The hash browns were right out of the package. Soft like spaghetti noodles and tasted of raw potatoes. Every table was full of elderly folks. I guess they are just so glad they are not eating off of a hospital food tray that they put up with these bad cooks/food. read more

This is the mom and pop "little hole in the wall" place that brings me back time and time again. For at least 25 years I've frequented this place and I've never had a bad meal. For us locals, the joke is about a large majority of other restaurants around here that serve seafood, it's usually not local seafood. Ruth's however, does serve local seafood. Their slaw is some of the best around. Can't say enough good things about this place. read more

I hate to post a poor review because I know how hard the restaurant business can be. However it comes with the territory. Bad experience both quality of food and service this morning for breakfast. Ordered poached eggs that came out practically hard boiled. When I asked for them to be reprepared I was told NO. Kitchen was turning over to lunch and they couldn't accommodate. By the way the corned beef hash and hash brown potatoes were substandard, tasteless and cold as well. Server displayed attitude as well. As if to say, just accept it and go on your way. Finally I asked if they could just scramble two eggs in a skillet since the grill was now only doing lunch. the eggs finally arrived but they looked suspect. Overcooked and thrown on the plate. I payed my tab, left a 20% tip and left. Never to return. I recommend the entire Ruth's staff visit Goody Goody to see how breakfast is supposed to be served and the gracious way the staff conducts themselves. Shame on you Ruth's Kitchen, your reputation is all you have. read more

Our regular go-to breakfast place was closed, so we decided to take a chance on a new place. From the outside it isn't much to look at...and honestly it is not much to look at from the inside, but the food is GOOD. Not only is the food good, but the servers are friendly and very speedy. We had tradition breakfasts of eggs, omelets, and pancakes. My son won't eat my pancakes, but he devoured Ruth's. I tried some, and I understand why. Delicious and fluffy. Soaks the syrup right in.
