Maybe half to three quarters are permanent and I've seen a lot of complaints but we do not feel any need to complain. Also...RR tracks are close and maybe 5-8 trains came by every day/night. We love trains, so not a problem to us - just be warned if you care. No playground or dog park, with lots of dogs (all leashed). We will come back if we are in the area.

If you want travel information they have brochures and employees that will help you their hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. they even have orange juice that you can sample for free as well as grapefruit juice. They also have picnic tables on the side of the building It is a nice spot to stop at especially if you're traveling a far distance.

If you are looking for the ultimate romantic escape, this is it. I almost didn't want to post a review out of fear that the Inn will get too popular, but something this extraordinary must be shared. From the moment you step off the Inn's private ferry, it feels as if you have stepped back in time. The untamed, natural beauty of Cumberland Island seems almost prehistoric, while the understated, casual "Old Money" elegance of the Inn harkens back to the days of the Gilded Age when the Carnegies and their contemporaries galavanted along the beach. Staying at Greyfield Inn isn't a typical luxury hotel experience; it's more like being a welcomed guest in a grand, historic family home, where your host has an extraordinary attention to detail. Fresh flowers and a handwritten card await you in your room upon your arrival, along with a copy of the Inn's daily meal schedule and a map of the island. A card bearing the day's forecast, including the speed of the current, winds, etc., is slipped under your door each morning while you're at breakfast. There is no front desk; if you require assistance, you need only wander downstairs to the kitchen and ask any available staff member. Speaking of the kitchen, it is open to guests 24-7; you are always free to help yourself to an assortment of delicious beverages and snacks, including homemade cookies (the flavor changes every day). We loved not having any Wi-Fi or TV; it forced us to completely unplug, slow down, and truly focus on each other. From riding the complimentary beach cruisers down live oak-canopied paths, to walking the beach and seeing no other humans for miles and miles, to lazing about on the Inn's extraordinarily comfortable front porch swings, we treasured every moment. We took advantage of the Inn's many tour offerings, including historic tours of the Dungenness Ruins and Plum Orchard estate, as well as a naturalist-led tour of the beach and an early morning birding tour through the marshland. Our guides, Christina and Nina, were both knowledgeable and engaging, sharing fascinating facts about Cumberland Island's rich history and even richer biodiversity. The culinary experience was definitely a highlight. From the charming picnic lunches packed for our daytime adventures to the exquisite, garden-to-table communal dinners, every meal was phenomenal. The food was often simple, but perfectly executed. We appreciated the requirement that everyone dress up for dinner, and every day we looked forward to socializing with new friends during the evening cocktail hour, munching on delicious hors d'oeuvres in the drawing room and sipping ice-cold martinis on the front porch. A word of caution to high-maintenance guests (or those who insist on modern luxuries): you might find some aspects of Greyfield less than ideal (though we found them charming). As my fiance said, sometimes it feels like "camping for fancy rich people." The plumbing, for instance, is quite old-fashioned, and it was virtually impossible to take a hot shower with adequate water pressure in our bathroom (we stayed in the Library Suite, which we adored). However, the Inn offers an excellent outdoor shower, which we thought added to the rustic charm of the experience. The warmth and attentiveness of Greyfield's staff was unmatched. A special shout-out to Hayley, who took some very special photos of my fiance and I (and who went out of her way to shoot us in multiple spots and from multiple angles!). We cannot thank the folks at Greyfield Inn enough for making our trip so magical. We are already dreaming of our next trip back, and are even considering trying to book the Inn for our wedding!

For the cost, do not expect the staff to go above and beyond at all. They stand around in the kitchen and must be sought out for assistance, never proactive. It's a very serve yourself type of atmosphere .The porch area is rarely attended to and dirt, with the interior furniture is ripped, tattered and worn. The food is nothing special and you are herded out of the communal eating area when time is up. You are your own bartender, as there is no one to offer you a drink. The service is subpar at best and there is very little attention to detail. There were older folks who couldn't bike and climb the dunes to get to the beach and they would not drive these people in the truck to the beach, which would be a nice option to accommodate those who need help to enjoy the island. I am glad I went, but not worth the cost they charge. nothing special, IMO.

I was told that the Sure Stay hotel the better of my options for a short stay.. well, after the warm reception I (and my Vietnam vet colleague) got, both at the Sure Stay and the VFW here in Kingsland (a short distance from the Sure Stay), I went home to Charleston, SC, checked on what it would cost to move to St. Marys, called the relators here, located an apartment (that wasn't "quite" ready), and moved lock stock and barrel. I booked into the Sure Stay for the duration of my wait for the apartment. Besides the wonderful breakfasts that were included in the room rate, having the cocktail lounge, "The Breeze", with their menu of bar foods, made it so I didn't really HAVE to go out for dinner. my stay at the Sure Stay got extended a couple of times because of problems that came up with the apartment, but it didn't bother me a bit; after a week I felt like family at the Sure Stay. I still visit the Breeze once a week and I'm greeted by the Sure Stay employees as if I never left. My Vietnam vet colleagues have come from out of state to visit and I put them in the Sure Stay. They treat us right and very helpful to our older veterans and the widows that come to these reunions. Rooms are very comfortable, clean and neat. Housekeeping staff is outstanding and the room is always very clean. I have not had a complaint in all the time I have spent here. This time down Melissa the General Manager was very helpful and accommodating to all of our needs that is the main reason this is our home location for this very special reunion. It had a full kitchen, dining area, living room, with fireplace, and a bed that I could sleep in for weeks. But that's not the best part about the Fairbanks house, the best part is about the service and how special they make you feel from the time you enter the front door. Everybody we came in contact with, was dedicated to that same type of service. I'm so it wasn't just one person. A number of different rooms that you can choose from, and they show pictures online so you know which one will fit you best. The number of rooms in the main house and there are two separate houses that are available for stay as well. There's a pool, There's a common dining area and a common living room where we really enjoyed meeting people from other places. My wife is already planning our trip back to here .

My boyfriend and I recently went kayaking for the first time here during our visit to Jacksonville…read more I came across Paddle Jax Amelia online while looking for activities to do. I decided to book the experience because it was affordable, nearby, and seemed new and exciting. We booked their glow in the dark night kayaking tour. When we arrived all the staff were friendly, knowledgeable about kayaking and the river ecosystem, and incredibly patient with us cause of our inexperience. We were provided with life vests, water, glow sticks, and our kayaks were fitted with led lights. It took us a little while to get comfortable in our tandem boat but with the staff's help we were eventually able to paddle down the river. The sun began setting and we switched on our leds and glow sticks for our return back up the river. It was one of the most beautiful and unique moments of my life. My only complaint is that pictures were taken of us on the river and we never got to see them. I would've loved to have those photos!
