Fries and hamburgers are an American staple. I'm always intrigued when a place claims to be the "best burger in the city," or "best burger west of the Mississippi." What this does, of course, is set them up for criticism. What this place should say is, "a better than average burger with really friendly service and a relatively short wait time." I also hope that "best burger" doesn't indicate that's all they do well. The fries were NOT fabulous. They were the crinkle type (which are usually my favorite), but they were overcooked and void of any flavor. The menu indicates they have lots of options beyond burgers, like hotdogs and seafood. It's quite an extensive menu for such a small place. The bacon cheese burger was satisfying with its onion, tomato, and lettuce. The bacon was barely there and the bun overwhelmed the burger a little, but it was filling. Overall, decent burger place. read more

Man, I ordered a custom burger and they made it for me without hesitation. I don't really eat fries so can't comment on those but I heard no complaints from the family. Cute quaint little burger place serving some delicious burgers! Called ahead as I saw that they closed about 30 minutes after I'd be getting there and the lady I spoke with was so friendly and said they would be there, which was great to hear as we were coming back from a long day of exploring and not much else was open. There's really nothing special about RW's Hamburger House. I ordered their cheeseburger and found it average, not bad but nothing to go out of my way for again. The side of fries I got was also kind of plain; out of a store bought bag and thrown into a deep fryer. When I walked in the employees had to get off of their phones and stand up from their table to take my order and to serve it, I felt like I was inconveniencing them. The interior looks ramshackle together, and while that's not necessarily bad, it's not really a place I'd want to eat food in. It might be considered rustic, but could also be considered cluttered and disorderly. I'm really not sure that, given other options, I would return. read more

I've driven by this place a million times. It's a small log cabin near the big barn-like structures on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway about 3 miles out of Palmer. My neighbor told me they have great burgers so I decided to try it out. It always seems like a steady crowd is parked there. The joint seats about 10 people but it does have a tv up on the wall. It's a burger joint all right - plus hot dogs, fish and chips baskets, chicken baskets, and other deep fried appetizers. I settled on a cheeseburger with everything for $5.95. I could have gotten fries and a drink with it for $7.95, so the prices are low to average for Alaska. There was a teenage boy working the counter and an older Korean woman working the kitchen. The burger patty was hand formed, which was nice. The bun was toasted and the tomato and lettuce fresh. It was a good burger. It wasn't a great burger, but it was better than some of the more expensive ones in the area. It seemed a little dry to me and could have used some seasoning salt or worcestshire in the meat but ... it was still good and definately not dripping with grease. Hot and fresh. I love love live this place. I read the other reviews and was sad to see people were confusing it with the wasilla store. There is no male cook at this store. I think they have the BEST burgers in the valley. And voted best burger place in the valley 9YEARS in a row. Yes they only accept cash but they have a atm (they dont own it) thats available, toany people were stealing cards and placing orders or placing orders and canceling cards. So when some dont play nice to protect herself she changed to cash only. Which isnt a big deal at all. The place is terrible. There was one other person in there, and yet my friend and I stood there for 25 minutes waiting for our food. We asked for a place to sit and the cashier pointed to the table outside, it was around 40 degrees, mind you. Cardboard burger, stale bun and the soda was flat. My party of three went in for burgers after taking our dogs for a run around the dog park, and all three of us were sorely disappointed with the food we received. The burgers were grey and bland, the cheese was likely purchased pre-grated, the buns were store-bought, and the crinkle-cut fries obviously came out of their freezer. As far as bland, store-bought food that you don't have to prepare for yourself goes, RW's is a home run! Good burgers, decent shakes, poor french fries. Ordered from them tonight: an RW burger without mayo, a KW burger, a banana and vanilla shake, and a hot dog. It was late and I didn't feel like cooking. Will definitely order from them again if I'm feeling lazy. Very insulted and dissatisfied.. Short version: They put me on a do not serve list because I placed a ToGo order for one cheeseburger and fries at the wrong location and wasn't able to pick it up(I don't live around here and didn't know there were too locations) I even called to apologize. Very very rude customer service!!! Long version: Called to place a to-go order and didn't know there was a Wasilla location. I went to pick up my order realized I had mistakenly order from the wrong location. It would have take me at least 30 minutes round trip to get the one Cheeseburger with fries I had ordered . I felt bad but that just wouldn't have made sense, especially with the roads icy and it was snowing. I called the Wasilla store to tell them sorry, I didn't know there were two locations and I wasn't able to pick my order. The Wasilla employees were very rude and told me I was put on a do not serve list because I "refused to pick up my order." I feel bad that I couldn't pick up my order but they handled it very poorly so I will not be going back there and I will not be recommending it to people. Mistakes happen and there is no need to be rude to someone (who doesn't even live in the area) for a simple mistake. The Palmer location even said that it happens once a day. Maybe they should make sure they state which location you are calling. read more

I asked the owner there the other day out of curiosity where they get their meat, and they get it from Teddy's Tasty Meats in Anchorage, which always is delivered fresh.
