Forgot to take pictures of the food. Went to Ryan's Pub & Sports Bar to get a bite while watching basketball. We ordered the nachos, wings, pizza & several sandwiches. The nachos were a no from me. The cheese on the nachos was like stadium nachos - straight from the can. The wings were pretty good. Very crispy with a nice sauce. We ordered vodka pizza which was also pretty good. The fries that came with the sandwiches were similar to frozen crinkle cut fries. I expected better knowing that the place was pretty popular, and sports bars typically have really good food. Stick to pizza & wings when you visit. You can't go wrong there! read more

My co-workers and I decided to stop here for happy hour as it was close to our office building. The happy hour is mostly focused on food discounts rather than drinks as it is only $3 beers. There isn't a cocktail menu, just basic vodka cranberry/rum & coke which I was a little dissapointed in. But hey, what can I expect from a local pub. With that being said, the happy hour food was totally worth it! I highly suggest the boom boom wings. They were packed with flavor, not to mention the wings are huge. I did feel like this place was understaffed though. We came on a Wednesday night around 6 PM and the place was getting busy with locals. It was only the bartender and one waiter out on the floor. Sometimes it was impossible to get their attention since they were so busy, plus the food took a bit of time to come out. This is a very typical classic American style bar. We however came in with two families that had four kids under the age of ten. But that didn't stop the staff and manager/owner from going out of their way to make us feel comfortable and make sure the kids were enjoying themselves. There's a small section that has a kid friendly axe throwing target (the axes are plastic and the target is too). The manager set up a jenga tower for the kids too. A great selection of beers on tap (Mad Elf, seasonal DogFish). The kids sliders, chicken strips and Mac ' cheese were gobbled up by the kids with no issues. The regular burger and shrimp entree were also great!! An excellent and unexpected surprise for weary travelers looking for a quick bite to eat. read more

A buddy of mine gave me some help last night so I wanted to take him for a few cocktails to thank him. Ryan's is very close to my house and it has always been very casual so no need to worry about attire. The place has made some significant improvements since my last visit. The bar is clean, the floors are not sticky and the food has improved. The bartender was hustling having to serve tables for drinks and food orders due to COVID19 restrictions. The wings were very good. The soda mix for cocktails has improved 1000 percent. Service was great. Crowd was a good mix of older and younger folks. Bikers, local couples, and sports fans galore. Went here for a beer and a burger with a fiend. Let me tell you this was horrible. The burger was frozen and tasted bland. Wings were covered in so much batter you couldn't even get to the chicken. As we left we saw our chef who we saw inside before we ordered food outside smoking. Extremely unsanitary and was a bit shocked knowing that was the person who cooked my food. Don't get anything else on that menu, you would probably get sick. If your looking to grab a beer than go right to the bar. read more

I have held off multiple times on writing a review for this place but I really need to share my experience here. Everytime my friend and I go here, there is at least 2 if not more issues with our experience. I have a lot of patience for people in the service industry since I have also been a part of it, but this is just ridiculous. Good luck getting the staff to acknowledge you in the first 30 minutes of you being there unless you're an old alcoholic screaming at the TV. One day after sitting at the bar for 15 minutes, the bartender finally came over and questioned our ID's for a while but ultimately decided to serve us (we are 22). We ordered 2 drinks which came out pretty quick and also got an order of onion rings. We timed it and it took 50 minutes to get our onion rings. There was only one full table, the rest were empty, so i'm not sure what the hold up was. Another time we went there, we both just ordered salads and it took 30 minutes. Today when we went, it took a while to get the bartenders attention even though she was just standing there. When I got her attention she told me my friend and I have baby faces and she needs to see our ID's, which is understandable since again we are 22. However, this bartender has served us multiple times and says the same thing every time. I gave her both of our ID's and expected there to be no issue. She went on to bring our ID's to 3 of her workers and took her sweet time getting back to us and handed me our ID's back and said "I don't really know what this is". I'm not sure what that means or how she is unable to do simple math and know that two people born in 2001 are of age to drink. Not to mention, I have seen the bartenders clean the glasses, and they literally barely rinse them and use dirty water. The food is mediocre but the service is worse. I'd recommend going to Docks in Jamesburg where their staff is not incompetent. read more

Wings were pretty good, but at $14, expensive. Could have gone another minute in the fryer to get a little crispier, but still good. Reuben was also pretty good. Bread and meat were both a bit dry, but plenty of meat and good rations of meat/dressing/kraut. Fries were good. The onion rings were terrible. Onions so thin you could barely taste them, and batter way too thick. The quesadilla had a random tomato melted into it, but lots of cheese and I added chicken so it was still pretty good. I ordered delivery during covid. I have a feeling this place is more of a bar that happens to have food than a destination for food. That said, if I had a few in me I bet this food would have been great. read more

I went to this place about a month ago on a Friday night. At first, the female bartender was all smiles and welcoming. The bar had no more than 20 people and wasn't busy by any means but once we got our drinks, she ever came back to ask us if we wanted another drink let alone looked in our direction. She was so busy chatting with the few people on one side of the bar and completely ignored the rest of the bar. I saw people that had to get up from their seats and walk around the bar just to get her attention for another drink. After talking to my friend for an hour, we literally walked out and didn't pay. The bartender was so occupied with her conversation that she didn't even notice that we left. We went again late this past Friday after 11:30PM and it was the same bartender. With no more than 15 people inside, we had the same experience with the bartender never coming back to us or anyone else sitting around me. Simple economics, the owner opened the bar to make money right? If the owner ever reads this, they need to get a new bartender. We got free drinks out of it though so that would be the 1 star rating. FYI people who posted that this bar has a wide selection of craft beers, this and that, they must work for the bar. read more

I enjoy stopping here when we're in the neighborhood. The prices are reasonable and the food is solid. I've been here a few times now, and the highlights have been: - the bar pies: crispy crust, yum - the burgers: juicy, delicious, and beautiful - seriously, they are gorgeous looking - Irish nachos: thin, crispy potatoes topped with melted cheese, bacon, and scallions - the bleu cheese crumble on top is a really nice, unexpected touch - club sandwich (I got it with roast beef and turkey, and it was delicious) Yea, it's a "neighborhood" bar, but it's still a solid choice for tasty food and drinks at a reasonable price. Previously "Cousins" with a tiki dive bar feel, they've long remodeled complete overhaul for the better. An Irish look & feel has been adopted. This Irish pub in Monroe, has with stood the test of time to evolve into a ok local brew & bite establishment. Nice wooden finish with a big rectangle bar typically offers up an available stool. About 10 four top tables in the dining area within open view of the bar crowd so an intimate family or secluded romantic date night isn't happening. The food is your basics pub fare including my personal favs Sheppard's Pie & fish & chips & Irish lamb stew The portion sizes vary based on product. The Sheppard's Pie is good, but average size at best so you'll need to add a soup ( Potato bacon cheese - rocks) or app. On the other hand the F&C's is huge with fries & Mac salad. The lamb stew is tasty, but is small portioned & could use larger chunks of veggies such as potatoes and carrots to at least create an illusion of a more sizeable man sized meal. Flat screens surrounding the bar with a decent selection of draft & a few ciders on tap. Female tenders pour em up, but aren't quick to buy back unless your one of the countless local yocals that incessantly roll through either the front or back entrances. This is definitely a local Monroe/Spotswood crowd. They don't embrace a fresh face like they do one of there own and this unfortunately is obvious as I trust you and other Yelpers have attest to. All in all a decent pub, but I'm far from in love. 4.5 Stars if you want to be exact. Great local bar to get a few drinks and bite to eat while catching up on sports. By far the best wings around. Pizza and other options are OK. Great TVs to watch sports. Ok WiFi is a plus for me. Patrons are friendly and very comfortable atmosphere. I mostly like the proximity to my house and the Irish pub atmosphere (i.e. It feels like nighttime when you walk in on the middle of a Saturday sunny day in the summer), otherwise I'd give it just 3.5 stars. Really enjoyed the Buffalo wings, and the French fries with cheese and bacon was to die for. They have a bar where you can sit and have drinks even your appetizers, or you could sit in the dining area. I do have to say it's pretty cold so make sure to bring a sweater. This place has some amazing fish and chips! Probably some of the best I ever had. Local dive with a lot of personality and all your standard brews on tap. On certain days they do dollar mugs on certain beers which I should of took advantage of. I opted out for Guinness on tap and it was really good and poured correctly. Everything on the menu looks pretty good. I was watching what other people ordered and all the grub seemed to be on point. Great place to eat some greasy bar food, watch sports, and kick back with a cold one. The only downfall this place has is the bartender. She always has this surprised and frustrated look on her face that will make you feel uncomfortable. I'm not sure if that's just her expression, or if she hates her job. If you go on a busy day be prepared to wait for your drinks. They also have a jukebox that works. If your in town, check it out. read more

Been here several times and every time is the same. Un-Attentive bar staff leaves little to be desired. Went in tonight, sat at the bar just to be ignored for at least 5 minutes. The barmaid watched me walk up, take off my jacket, put it on the back of the chair, pull the chair out and sit. She finished what she was doing. Walked around behind the bar with a lost look on her face a few times, looking at the patrons, walked past me eachtime without acknowledging me, then left the bar to go to the kitchen. She came back empty handed, walked past me again and kept going. Finally another staff member came out and walked right up to me and asked what he could get me. I was ready to get up and leave at that point if it weren't for him. It was funny when the gentleman next to me dropped his fork on the floor, she practically ran across the bar to give him a fresh fork, without being called or asked. Otherwise she seemed to be the type that wouldn't give you the time of day unless you were throwing money at her. Otherwise, decent food, a couple of good taps.... I mean I've been to bars and had a lot of bartenders. Probably over 1,500 bars. The bartender we had that night was murph. What an experience. He immediately guessed all of our ages as we challenged him to do so. He has really fast hands and can make 20+ drinks in less then 30 seconds no problem. We then heard that he is a very talented flair bar tender and he seemed shocked that we knew. He said he only does flair if you ask him to. The flair started and it was amazing, flying bottle of vodka, beer, drinks opened and not a ounce of liquor hit the floor. He seemed like a local celebrity as everyone was trying to talk to him but he made us feel important by occasionally doing flair just for us. We then let him hold our baby because he just seemed like a guy we could trust. That last part was a joke. My wife said no. Every other bar tender there looks mad and angry but not murph, he's smiling the entire time. The food was standard bar food. read more

decent pub that we swung by after the BBQ place. the outside looks a little beat, but the inside looks to be fairly new so far as renovations. fairly standard sports bar taps: Bud, Miller, Coors, Guinness, etc. a Guinness is five bucks. they have a house tap (I think it was called Ryan's Ale) which is made for them by Leinenkugel. decent beer, I wasn't a huge fan of it, but it was also $3.50. my cousin Joe ordered a Crown Royal on the rocks and he was convinced it wasn't Crown Royal. but he drank it anyway. it set him back eight bucks. digital jukebox, food, live bands and karaoke. seems like a legit little pub to hang out at if you're in the area. also, we smelled popcorn. read more

Place is a hit or miss, more times a miss... Far from my favorite. Have to wait for a beer most nights even if it's not busy. It's true that no one seems to want to be working there other than the bartender Murph and the male owner or manager. I've seen a few fights and arguments, heard a few stories, not a fan of that. Previously had very pleasant experiences but this night was very different. Went to enter through the back and was told to go through the front entrance to receive wristbands. When we attempted to enter through the front the door was locked so we knocked and were met by a rude so called bouncer that hit me with the door. He cursed at my parents and insisted that the bar was over capacity. Would rather go to a place with friendlier staff and a manager who is a little less creepy. read more

Unless you're a local patron expect to be ignored by most of the staff. This guy refused to acknowledge my presence. He'd walk right up to me, look to my left, my right and walk away every time. It became a running joke (to ease the tension) with the guy sitting next to me - a local who eventually flagged someone down, then pointed to me. It was the kind of crowd that made me afraid to touch someone's hat in order to make room for my coat on a sill. The fellow next to me told me a story of a tense interaction with some motorcycle crew that was in the last time. Felt the same that night. The police outside were picking people off like bats in an insect swarm. It's obviously a gold mine for local revenue. They sit with their lights on a block away so you can't make out the vehicle at night. New Jersey considers 'drunk' a VERY low level of alcohol so even feeling dead sober can land you in jail with a police record. And this place was ground zero for hunting bar patrons. I'm most comfortable in places usually referred to as 'dive bars' but this place was a 's#%t bar'. read more

This place is one of the best dive bars ever. Actually a great bar all around. Excellent beer selection on tap and the selection is ever changing. the girl bartenders always seem pretty annoyed but in their defense their always running around on busy nights. I've never had their food but if you're going to the bar on a busy night just be prepared to wait for a while. If you're local its a nice place to stop for a drink but I wouldn't travel more than the distance from my house to come here. read more
