We were defrauded by Rycor and may have to take legal action. We spent over $8,000 installing 2 mini splits - 1 on each floor of our home. Rycor assured us this would provide adequate climate control across both floors. It has not. We recently needed service and the Rycor technician who provided the service observed that the entire setup is wrong - he said we were given "wildly overpowered" units for the size of the rooms they are in. He is right. The spillover effect into others rooms that we were promised is non-existent. Instead, what we get is 2 rooms that cannot be adequately climate controlled because the unit is too powerful for them even when on the weakest setting; and many other rooms that have no climate control at all. We always needed 4 splits, but Rycor defrauded us into believing otherwise so they could close the deal. So we are out over $8,000 and need a brand new set up. Total disaster, and very dishonest. As I write this review it is summer and I am sitting in a freezing cold room where I need to wear a bunch of layers even though the unit is on the lowest possible cooling setting. But if I turn the unit off, the room is too hot. That has been our experience every day. So the splits are completely unusable. Rycor acknowledged their mistake, but offered only a $1,000 credit rather than the full replacement we need. We are considering our legal options. read more

Note: This review is for 2023 installs. We had a perfect experience with the Rycor team! From painless and patient sales/planning with Comfort Specialist John B, to scheduling with Brian, digital paperwork with Laurie, and installation with Team Leader Carlos and his crew -- everything was excellent. On the morning of installation, Carlos and his team arrived 10 minutes before the appointment time (how often does that happen?!) in their sharp-looking company-branded truck -- which my husband immediately noticed as a sign of Rycor's pride in their image and reputation. They confirmed installation locations and processes with me and my contractor, then promptly got to work. It was one of the most impressive operations we've ever seen. They were like the A-Team (for those familiar with the '80s show!) -- everyone knew their role, worked diligently, collaborated smoothly, and stayed polite throughout. They coordinated seamlessly with our electrician, who was running the wiring for the units. Once installation was complete, Carlos walked us through each tested unit, explained the remote controls and settings, and offered best-practice tips. The finished work looked great both inside and outside the house. Afterwards, the team even covered all the installed units carefully to protect them from dust and damage, as our renovation still had a long way to go. Rycor also handled the rebate paperwork and warranty registration for us, which was a huge help. We fully expect to work with Rycor again for additional units and future annual maintenance. I first used Rycor 10 years ago, and they were incredible. Sadly, it seems that the original owner Scott Arnold sold the business to a much larger HVAC company, and now the quality and service has gone way way down. I was suspicious when I called with an issue, and the whole phone system had changed. The "tech" they sent out was basically a sales guy who didn't care about fixing the issue so much as selling me a whole new upgraded system. Mitsubishi minis are still the best in my opinion, but I'd check with a few companies first before choosing Rycor. The new ow era care more about gouging you as much as possible than they do about providing lifetime customers. It's sad given what a company Scott Arnold had built! read more

They put in mini splits in my home. Afterwards, the humidity was through the roof. They didn't warn me about this. They didn't do a whole house evaluation before putting in the mini splits. When I expressed my concern about the humidity, they ignored me. I recommend that anyone who gets mini split. Has someone come and evaluate their entire home. Rycor installed 6 mini-split HVAC units with 3 compressors in our house in Western Massachusetts. Could not be happier with the entire process, from my first call to them to the completion of the installation. Everything was prompt, professional, courteous, clean, and done well. They made the MASS SAVE rebate program paperwork as painless as possible. This was a two-day install process; Steve and his team arrived on time *to the minute* on both days, and the work was done slighly ahead of schedule. The only negative part of the process was something that wasn't their fault: the Android app that controls the units is a buggy piece of junk that wouldn't even install on my phone. We got it working on my wife's iPhone though. The system is quiet and efficient; it remains to be seen how well it will do in heating the entire house evenly when it gets really cold outside. read more

I must say that I had very positive experience with this company, Sales Rep, Michael Ihnachak was super. He came at exactly at scheduled time. He went through in very minute details of the installation process and how Mistubishi units will work and his recommendation for my needs. He showed how these units will be installed. Very precise minute details and what discounts were available to us. How long it will take to insatll. Whole process from permits for Electricians to the end. His crew came on 13th November and Rico, Kyle and crew great. On installation day I fell down and got injured and they were quick to call (11, and offered my wife that they can postponed installation. But I had family close by and they came rushing, stayed at my house, and my injury was was not life threatening so I was back in 3 hours. Everything was finished by the evening and left after cleaning up all debris and any junk. I am enjoying heating part right now. and I am sure when warm weather will come up, I will enjoy AC part also. I believe We got really good price and on top of it installation process and related issues of payments etc were handled very efficiently. Even after installation, very small questions were answered very politely and diligently. If you are in market for something like this I will highly recommend RYCOR of New Paltz , NY very highly. read more

Nothing but trouble from Rycor and their heat pumps. Outrageously expensive to install and operate (my heating bills went way up), so noisy I can't sleep in the same room with one (it's like a toilet flushing once a minute), and consistently poor experience every time the things need maintenance (weeks to get a first appointment, more weeks while they order the part). STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!! They are nothing short of trouble. 0 stars if I could. Don't fall for the Google 4.9 stars like I did. I should have learned my lesson from when they first installed our heat pump, they started drilling holes on our fall without consulting with us. I now have to live with the pump not centered on the wall. Second incident is November 2023 when one of our heat pumps stops blowing hot air. I scheduled a 2-4pm service call and arranged my husband to be home at that time. This timeframe was also confirmed with Rycor. Imagine my surprise when the technician showed up at my door at 10am in the middle of my work meeting. I went with the flow and just let him work on it and paid full price. Fast forward 6 months later, it is now not blowing cold air and leaking puddles in the house. A tech came and said there's a crack. Very suspicious as nobody else besides the previous tech touched it. We made an appointment over 2 weeks later when the part arrived. Confirmed for 8am-12pm timeframe. Also got text reminder from them the day before. Waited the full 4 hour timeframe. NO CALL NO SHOW. Called the company and was told sorry scheduling issue. Tech will be there 3-4pm. This UNACCEPTABLE. I wasted my entire morning and lost income from waiting for them for nothing. You cannot expect us to wait all day. We have lives and jobs too! The least they could do was to call and notify us but nothing. The tech was fully aware of his schedule and didn't bother. We would've waited all day for them if I didn't call. Nevertheless, he showed up at 2pm when we were not home when in fact we were told to expect him 3-4pm. He was unapologetic as well. We don't complain but this encounter was absurd and for it to happen twice is not okay. SAVE YOURSELF THE HEADACHE AND PICK ANOTHER COMPANY!!! read more

Scott and his team are incredibly knowledgeable about HVAC systems, specifically mini splits and Mitsubishi. I spoke with 5 - 7 other HVAC companies in the area and I ultimately decided that Rycor was the best option for us. My experience with Scott and his Team has been great. I had central air installed to an existing forced air system and a Mitsubishi Split System placed on the top floor in order to provide heat and cooling. First of all, everything was handled professionally and in no time. I compare this to another company that inspected my home, said that I'd hear from them in two weeks and avoided me for the next two months. Very impressed with the service. I had scheduled an afternoon appointment for later that week to fix my HVAC and check out a non-working thermostat. Marie called Monday evening to say that if I was home, she had a tech right in the area if I preferred that evening. I did. John was personable, clean, articulate and quick; he was able to diagnose both problems, had parts in the truck, and, BAM!, done in an hour. It was hot that night, so I was super glad to get the AC fixed that evening. He also took time to educate me on what he had done and suggest a service call for the furnace in a few months; I grew up with oil burners, so I was glad to get the 411 on the gas unit. Trying to get a quote for installation of wireless thermostats was possibly one of the most inanely time consuming exercises I've been through in my adult life. Numerous phone calls were exchanged between receptionists who are painfully ill-equipped to answer anything but the phones and Scott, presumably the owner, who talks endlessly about how efficient and diligent his team will be once you agree to their service without a price estimate or ceiling on the rates they may need to charge to install a c-wire. As if installing a c-wire is equivalent to realigning the foundation. Every other HVAC servicer in the area has laughed audibly at the rate range and reasoning for his inability to provide a reasonable estimate. If, however, you're in the market for condescension and a long-winded life story meant to convince you of professional ability, I would highly recommend. read more

At first Scott the owner comes of as caring and tells you that the customer means more than the money; however, wait until you have an issue that is not reasonably resolved. He basically called me and lectured me about how he is correct and I am wrong. I had NYSERSA, an electrician and a plumber come check everything else in my house and my one unit is drawing triple the electricity. I turned it off for two months and bills dropped. He left me a rude message about how he sends his guys out for free and he can't keep doing this because it costs him money. Well if they fixed it correctly he wouldn't have to. He is not honest. I talked to Scott on Thursday, and he was able to fit me in to install a split-type AC unit the following day due to a cancellation. When the two-man crew arrived, it was discovered that the incorrect unit was loaded onto the truck that morning. After a quick phone call, Scott himself drove from New Paltz to Beacon with the correct unit. He also called another two-man crew to help expedite the installation in a timely fashion. Not only are they incredibly prompt (if they say they'll be there at 9, they're there at 9) and time-efficient, they're helpful, knowledgeable about the use and service of the products they install, meticulous about cleanliness, and every team member I've spoken to or had to my home has been polite and a pleasure to do business with. I had them over to replace an igniter and water pump for my home heating system. The work they did was fine but they charged me a 500% to 600% markup on the parts ( I was charged $180 for the $30 igniter and $275 for a $40 water pump). Scott explained to me that the company makes very little on the hourly charge for the work so he has to make it up by overcharging for parts. Never again. read more

I have found his prices, service, installation, maintenance, and office staff to be nothing but exemplary in all ways. I met Scott when the furnace of the house I had just bought kicked off, in the middle of winter. I was overwhelmed with other remodeling that was already underway, a tight budget, and little time to deal with the dead furnace. Scott absolutely saved the day. He gave me smart and reasonable options and enough information and advice to enable me to make a good decision about a new furnace. He did the same when I was ready to install A/C-hyperheat units. Every time he and his crew have done work in my house, they've left the space cleaner than they found it. All of his workers are as courteous as he is.
