I've been a fan of Rye Deli since 2021 and previously gave it 5 stars, but today's order was a disappointment. The half chicken was greasy and tasted reheated rather than fresh, and the turkey sandwich was just ok. For a $50 total, the quality just wasn't there today. It's frustrating because I've highly recommended this place to others in the past. I'm giving them 3 stars today in hopes that this was just an off day. I'll try them one more time in the future and will update my review based on that experience. Maybe I should've stuck with the pastrami, but I've consistently heard that's no longer good as it's consistently been oversalted. read more

This restaurant is located in the Crown Plaza and it did not disappoint! They close early, around 5, but they offer an approachable, yet elevated fare throughout the day. I had the Mignon sliders appetizers and they were delicious- there were only 2, would have preferred 3 since sharing, but they were seasoned well and came with a good portion of french fries. This restaurant/bar is connected to the Crowne Plaza Hotel in the West Loop and its 100% worth coming to, even if you're not staying at the hotel. I had the crispy chicken sandwich with fries as well as a whisky and Diet Coke with lime. The sandwich was really good and I think what made this sandwich unique was that the chicken wasn't super thick and all over the place. It was thinned out and not overwhelming to where you feel gross after eating it. I also loved the mustard on it! I wasn't sure I'd like that, but it gave it the perfect tangy experience. The fries were also my favorite type of fries! Homemade and really crunchy. You can't go wrong with a fry like that - ha! The only thing I'd change is the glasses the drinks come in. Maybe it's because my drink was very basic but I've never been a fan of a regular class for an alcoholic beverage, I don't know why. It just doesn't feel as exciting. This morning I grabbed breakfast at Rye Deli and Drink. It's a cute little corner spot with a bistro feel. The inside has lots of seating, and an order-at-the-counter system where they bring food to the table. They have a variety of bagel sandwiches, bagels with toppings, regular breakfast, or a buffet. There was also a fairly extensive coffee menu for something that's not a coffee shop. When the server brought my break to the table it was not was I ordered. They apologized and quickly made me a new sandwich while checking on my coffee. Even with the mishap, the staff handled themselves well and were very kind and helpful. I had a warm salmon bagel sandwich. The taste was good, but the whole thing was extremely greasy. The dill cream cheese they used didn't taste like dill at all. This is a conveniently located restaurant in the west loop. When I went I got the Applewood hot smoked salmon breakfast sandwich. Unfortunately this sandwich fell very short of my expectations. I'm a huge fan of smoked salmon and lox bagels. However, this ended up being a cooked salmon fillet on a bagel. It was really hard to eat and the sandwich was falling apart. The fillet was just too big for the sandwich and it just didn't taste right to have fully cooked salmon with cream cheese and egg. They do have a variety of sandwiches and next time I want to try the classic lox bagel. They also have a breakfast buffet for a reasonable price because they are connected to a hotel and they give a discount for residents that live in the area. read more

Came to this Jewish deli a few times to check out the offerings and all it has. It's also a bar later. Rye Deli & Drink is one of Greektown's more interesting restaurants. Looks fancy inside. The prices are kind of high obviously. Best time to get a bagel is at breakfast. It's when these are freshest. There's a lot of bagel places where most of the flavor comes from the spreads and the bagel is mostly forgotten about, but not here though. It's about $5 for a bagel with a basic spread on it. This is a little more with something such as meat or whatever. I like the vegetarian choices. There's a few. Have to make an update for this business. It seems to have closed. Rye Deli is a beautiful newish place at 25 S Halstead open since November of 2020. Kudos to the new owner for opening a beautiful place w/good food in this time of uncertainty w/a Covid. I saw a review by my Yelp friend Christopher V yesterday & was drooling looking @ his food photos & knew I had to check it out. I split a Pastrami Reuben Sandwich that came w/kettle chips & pickles w/my brother in law & we each got a bagel w/thyme & sea salt along w/2 different flavor labneh. One w/melted leeks & the other w/black pepper & parsley. The bagels were excellent w/nice chewy consistency that I really enjoyed. The Reuben was good too only it was too darn salty. I almost didn't finish my half because of too much salt. I love the design of the restaurant, but the pastrami Reuben had way too salty & the lack of attention from the server. I can only give it 4 stars. She took our order & brought out the food but never checked back once to see if we needed anything else even though we were the only 2 people eating there. Glad there is a good local bagel bakery nearby. I walked past and at first glance I thought they were closed as there were limited indoor lights on, so I peeked inside. I was able to see people standing and went inside. There were no clear signs on where to order bagels. I asked the cashier if there was a method to order bagels since there were none to view on selections. She pointed to a QR code and told me to download the menu and order online. Took me awhile to get setup but eventually I was able to navigate the online ordering to get my baker's dozen. I was able to mix-match the bagel flavors and the home-made spreads. I liked the "burnt eggplant garlic spread". I set the time and I was able to come back to pick up my bakers dozen. There are 4 free parking spots available. TL;DR Interesting bagels with unique flavor combinations, spectacular smoked salmon and brik. Definitely get the smoked salmon and brik. Really easy online ordering + pickup process. ===== Came here over a weekend and picked up four bagels (everything, za'atar, blue masa + cinnamon, thyme + sea salt), four shmears (black pepper + parsley, melted leeks, charred strawberries + honey, burnt eggplant) ($3 per bagel and shmear), 1/2 pound of smoked salmon ($16), and a brik ($6). This was my first time trying labneh and I found it to be much tangier than cream cheese. The bagels were all a little too chewy for me and only for the strong of teeth; perhaps they toughened up during our trek back home through the cold. If you're looking for an authentic, crusty bagel, then these definitely have more character than the flabby ones I usually see. I really liked the everything bagel and thyme + sea salt. A lot of the za'atar seasoning fell off into the bag and I found the blue masa + cinnamon to be a bit too subdued in flavor. The melted leeks labneh was the standout for me, and I was disappointed with the lack of flavor in the burnt eggplant. The charred strawberries + honey one was very interesting - it was not that sweet and I could envision it being used on a savory bagel, too. The true star of the entire meal was the smoked salmon. It was SO GOOD. Honestly it is probably the best smoked salmon I've had. The purple tint from the beets is really nice and the flavor and texture were perfect. It also wasn't overly salty, and I really liked just eating it on its own. I think we were also mistakenly given one pound instead of a half pound, but whatever amount we actually got, it was amazing. The brik was also superb and crisp and the egg was perfectly done. So it was National Bagel Day recently and Rye was running a BOGO promotion on their Instagram- let me tell you I am queen of deals, especially food related so I had to go! It was a pretty gross chicago winter day, but also a Friday and bagels were 100% worth braving the elements. My order: 2x Everything bagels 1x Za'atar bagel 1x Thyme + Sea Salt bagel 2x Melted Leeks shmear 1x Black Pepper with Parsley shmear 1x Plain shmear I ordered for 2 people, but honestly wish I got more for myself. These bagels blew me away and are FAR beyond any other bagels in Chicago or the suburbs. Growing up on NY bagels and the delis in south FL where all the NYers move to, I would consider myself a bagel snob (won't even make myself sound better by using "connoisseur"). Chicago bagels are terrible, mushy, sometimes steamed (who thought that was a good idea- looking at you CBA) - so I've mostly resorted to making my own 4 ingredient version to at least get that fresh baked and crunch I've so missed... and have also ordered NY bagels via Goldbelly when desperate. Save yourself the shipping and flour mess all over the kitchen by grabbing a selection of bagels at Rye! You must get the Thyme + Sea Salt, trust me, and skip the plain labneh because the melted leeks and black pepper w/ parsley was ah-mazing. As a carb-eating bagel-lover I've been excited to check out new Rye Deli & Drink. Rye Deli is a refreshing new take on the old bagel and schmear. Bagels: I planned to freeze for a week of breakfast and ended up eating three in one day. Oops! Not really the same as a New York bagel & if I was looking to hit a NY bagel craving this would honestly not be it. The crust was very different - it was crackly and almost crispy, reminiscent of a hard crust on good loaf of bread. The bread interior was less dense than a traditional NY bagel but not soft and spongy like a regular bagel, maybe they have slightly higher moisture dough. Overall combo had good chew but didn't completely bust my jaw. There was a tangy flavor to the bread similar to sourdough which was a surprise. It was a joy fresh, toasting wasn't necessary. A lot of reviews talk about the bagels being hard or "stale" but these fresh bagels are supposed to have chew. I think it's just a matter of preference. People who like a softer bagel may find this style of bagel hard. A lot of creative flavor combinations on their menu. I only tried the savory ones and the salt and thyme was my favorite. Rye uses a dusting of the flaky salt topping instead of the big crystals in regular salt bagels. It made for a lighter salty flavor. Less a fan of the everything here - the everything mix was very heavy on the poppy seed which made for a different flavor profile. Spreads: I have a strong preference for cream cheese or butter and am generally not a fan of yogurt-based items but was excited to try their labneh flavors. The plain and black pepper spreads tasted very similar to me and were the most tangy/"yogurty". The black pepper had a bit more dimension but not very pronounced. My favorite was the melted leek labneh which had a much more mild flavor but I found myself wishing it was cream cheese. I was most excited for the burnt eggplant&garlic&lemon&pomegranate but it was not what I expected. It had a good texture but very lemon forward and not much of the other flavors. Bagels include a small sauce container. Extra in 4oz containers are $5 which is very steep considering most places sell 8oz containers for the same price. I'm really excited to go back to Rye and Drink and try the rest of their menu. The drinks look fun and the meat options look very tasty. A great addition to the food scheme from some creative people and I'm excited to see what they come up with next. read more

The customer service here is great, and online orders are fulfilled in a timely manner. Most recently, my girlfriend and I ordered the thyme + sea salt bagel with melted leeks labneh, and a "stack it" on a za'atar bagel with melted leeks labneh. The flavor combinations are unique and tasty. Because these bagels are "Chicago-style", they're intentionally chewier than the typical NY-style bagel. However, the chewiness is inconsistent. We have ordered bagels 3-4 times, and sometimes the bagels are borderline tough. We both noticed our jaws were sore after finishing the bagel. I really wish the bagels were more consistently less tough, since I do like the flavors and the prices are reasonable. Overall, I still recommend trying Rye Deli's bagels, just know the bagels may be more chewy than a typical NY style bagel. read more

This place is on the lists as one of the best new bagel places in Chicago, so we ordered their delivery box to host some guests. It's really perfect for this -- you get everything you need, lots of variety, and if it pushes the envelope just a tad too much for my tastes, your guests will just think you were trying to impress them. We got: The bagels are very good, if not quite NYC quality, with some edgy but compelling flavors like sea salt and thyme, or zataar. Instead of cream cheese, they give you flavored labneh, with some very good flavors, like melted leeks, or parsley and preserves lemons. The toppings like sliced cucumbers, onions, and chopped capers -- while nothing special -- are essential and very well done. Do not underestimate the importance of this! Do you want to be running around finding and slicing your own onion when you could be chatting with your guests? The beet smoked salmon looked gorgeous, and some of our guests liked it a lot. But between the thick cut and the very mild curing, it reminded me more of sashimi than lox. And who among else has ever craved bagel sashimi? All in all I was happy with it, and I'd do it again, even if in my heart of hearts I'd be longing for a more traditional bagel-lox-cream cheese situation. read more

The flavor was on point and matched perfectly with the melted leek labneh. The labneh had a pleasant tartness that balanced the whole experience. I didn't miss cream cheese at all.
