I recently visited Danke for lunch in the Sterling Food Hall in Chicago's Loop. The Sterling Food Hall has many good food stalls and this one is one of the better ones. First, they have a great food stall. Unlike many of the food stalls, they have their bar and seating. It was nice to grab my food and be able to sit down right away without having to go search for a table. Second, the food is delicious. I was told by the staff that they make all their bread in house, brine their pork belly in house and get fresh and local meats and ingredients. I tried three sandwiches, the Italian, the secret sandwich and the inglorious batard. All do the sandwiches were good, but the inglorious batard was may favorite. The Italian was might brighter than other Italian sandwiches I've had. Third, the service is great. The staff was friendly and my food came out super fast. This is a must visit sandwich shop in Chicago.

    Smoked Turkey

The menu is clearly visible and is the same as it is online. When I arrived the first time, it was before noon and I had no wait. Second time I went on a Friday at 12:15 and only one person in front of me. Both times, the employee who took my order was friendly and prompt. The food was prepared much faster than I'd expect. There are enough seats that it'd be easy to get a table and dine in. However, I took mine back to my desk. The bread is hearty and has a slight crispiness on the very outside but then dense and chewy and flavorful. All ingredients are top quality. The turkey shines and the cheese is flavorful enough to compliment the smokiness of the turkey without being overshadowed by it. The aioli is a lovely addition and is light enough to not overwhelm the rest of the flavors. It's a bit much for me for a lunch but it's so delicious that I've haven't had the will power to save half of it and instead gobble the whole thing at once.

Get some German and good sandwiches from this place in Revival Food Hall. It also has options for vegans. Danke is best known for sandwiches and deli items. Must be good because it was one of the original tenants. The food has pretty good flavor for something in a food hall, and isn't like canned or bargain like stuff. A place to hang around is at the bar. It has some overpriced cocktails. The food is the main thing. Okay prices on the food especially for around here. The Chickpea Salad is one of the best sides. It's about $6 for a big portion and it's filling. The Veg is the vegan sandwich option. It's about $10 and comes with a side, with salads among the choices. This has arugula, braised mushrooms, eggplant, cauliflower purée, sun dried tomatoes, and zucchini. Big sandwich and is a lot for the cost This seems like a good deal to be honest. Convenient to get to if downtown. It's mainly for people who work around here. They're closed weekends.

Best tomato soup in the area! The ingredients in the sandwich are fresh, but for the price, I do wish the bread was toasted and a lot softer. It was a pretty quick lunch (no lines). The cashier was so patient & willing to ask questions. This is inside a food hall: be mindful that it is very loud and packed during lunchtime but there are no people during dinnertime. Might go back to try their charcuterie boards with their wine.

If you're looking for a good sandwich while at Revival Food Hall, Danke is a great choice. Everyone working there was really nice and friendly, and the menu had a lot of tasty options. We only got a grilled cheese sandwich since we were sampling from a bunch of different vendors, but it was delicious, both with and without the pickles (got them on the side instead of on it, since my kid is anti-pickles). Hoping to try more on another visit!

    Secret sandwich

I'm not sure why this place only has 3.5 stars. I thought their secret sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The ingredients are very creative and very tasty. The chips and soda they have are also yummy. It was fairly priced for Chicago and the service was great. This shop is very casual as it is located in a food hall.

The Secret Sandwich has the perfect resume! It confidently flaunts its schweinebauch and duck liver. Loaded with fatty meats and a touch of cheese. Topping off its qualifications as a Euro inspired sandwich with a chewy, rustic baguette. Perhaps it was too much of a good thing...Gasp! I know...I heard it too! After eating half of the sandwich, I wasn't quite full but certainly begging for something else. I would recommend sharing this with someone and pairing it with a side of salad or soup or maybe a beer... The baguette was deliciously chewy! And they sell just the baguette for $3! I'll definitely be back for that!

Grilled Cheese, Roasted Tomato Soup, and Smoked Turkey

Danke is located in the Revival Food Hall and they are one of the OGs at the food hall when it opened some years ago (still fairly new). I ordered online for pickup, which has been great and I think fairly new to Revival Food Hall as I just noticed it two weeks ago. Seating is so hard to find in the food hall because it is so busy! Food was ready on time and I headed back to the office (10-min walk). I ordered the Grilled Cheese (rated as one of the best grilled cheeses in Chicago) (RIP Fat Shallot who moved out of Revival, who also has a great grilled cheese), Roasted Tomato Soup, and Smoked Turkey. Hey don't judge, I was carb loading for my 10 mile run the next day with my running group haha. I've had both sandwiches before and they are still both excellent! The Grilled Cheese actually traveled decently well as the sourdough bread was still toasty (a little rough given the sourdough bread), but a little moist and totally expected given the 10-min walk. The cheese was still somewhat melted and the flavor is to die for! The Smoked Turkey was insanely fresh and full of flavor! I love their mustard aioli (dijon based)! The baguette is insanely good and I think it almost tastes like ciabatta bread just in a baguette. Arugula was fresh. The Roasted Tomato soup was ok to good as it was lukewarm so it didn't travel well. It was packed with flavor, but it had a small kick of spiciness! I didn't expect it to have a kick, but it was definitely noticeable. Overall, Danke is a great place to grab lunch! Good luck finding a seat at Revival as it's always packed (my luck is terrible and usually have to settle for standing room only) as there are so many great options! Prices is cheap for the Loop ($10-$11/sandwich) and portion sizes are good. I want to try their Secret Sandwich sometime as I have never had it because the Grilled Cheese and Smoked Turkey are sooooo good! Please note that I had to walk 10 minutes back to my office so the food would have been even better dining at Revival!

There was already a small line of guests with the same idea, but we were able to get on the waitlist. While waiting, we checked out the small coffee shop inside the gallery and browsed the furniture, which helped pass the time. Our wait was about an hour before being escorted to our table in the courtyard. Initially, we were placed at a low coffee table with couch seating. It's a cool lounge style setup, especially for drinks, but not ideal for a meal. It would have been pretty awkward trying to eat comfortably. We asked to be moved and were told that table preferences should be requested when joining the waitlist. Since it was my first time visiting, I wasn't aware of that, and it also wasn't asked by the hostess. Thankfully, they were able to accommodate us and moved us to a table in the wine cellar. The wine cellar had a completely different vibe, dark and moody, compared to the bright, airy courtyard with its beautiful glass ceiling and natural light. We ordered the lobster roll and the RH Burger, both with fries. The food came out fairly quickly and was well-presented. The lobster roll was served on a buttery brioche with just the right amount of seasoning, and the burger was juicy and flavorful. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely visit again.

We started with a mocha, a solid, well-balanced drink that wasn't overly sweet and was just perfect. We didn't plan on eating here, but the menu was way too tempting. We ordered the cinnamon roll, and wow. This was insanely good. Most cinnamon rolls in the U.S. feel like sugar-heavy, cinnamon-flavored buns, but this one was light, flavorful, and beautifully made. The irimshik on top really elevated it, subtle, warm, and just sweet enough. Easy 10/10. Next was the cottage cheese pancake, which was also very good. It had a generous amount of cottage cheese stuffed inside, and paired with the sweet irimshik dip, the dish came together really well. 9/10. We then tried the qattama. It was good. flaky, crispy, and reminded me of a paratha. It came with a sour irimshik dip. While each component was good, I felt the qattama would shine more with a gravy-based dish. 7/10. Finally, we ordered the Nan Salma pasta. It's a tarry-based white sauce pasta with a unique flavor profile, and it was genuinely yum. Definitely something different and worth trying. Highly recommend it. 8/10. You have space to sit down and work as well. Service was good too. Some of the dishes might take 7-10mins to get prepared. Loud chatter, but it's a vibe. Very colorful and fun interior with cool textural elements. We had a seat that was facing the street so it was fun to people watch as we sipped and ate. Food: amazing breakfast selection! We ordered the morning sandwich and barbacoa bowl. The morning sandwich had THICK scrambled eggs which were super soft and tasty. I could've used more salsa verde on it. The bread was barely toasted. I'd rate the sandwich a 3.8/5. It got the job done. The barbacoa bowl was "really good" according to my fiancé. A great source of protein, fresh ingredients, nice flavor, and great portions. He would rate it a 5/5. Coffee: I am a coffee snob so I am quite harsh when it comes to reviewing it. Their machine is a cute La Marzocco. Appropriate sized "for-here" glasses according to the drinks. Plus, they were really cute. Chairs are comfy but some of them are stools, so no chair backing for many seats. There is a comfy couch area with small tables that are big enough to fit a laptop and a drink. The food and drinks were good! I had a hojicha latte which was exciting because it's hard to find around the city. I liked that it wasn't too sweet. My favorite were the toasties. They were fancy and you definitely pay west loop prices but they are high quality, tasty, and creative! The sweet pea toastie had mashed peas on petite crispy toasties. I really liked the ratio of peas to toast. I also loved the milk and honey toast. The cheese was piped onto the toast and topped with honey and spices that made for a dessert like treat. Will definitely be back! Apparently they have DJs on weekends which is also when they don't allow laptops (which I think is great for setting the weekend vibe!)

Apparently there's a mandatory purchase rule and they will confront everyone. Our friend ordered a pastry so we joined him at his table. We were told and said we all had to order something or leave even tho the place was half empty. We ordered something else but I feel like there's a better way to let people know there's mandatory consumption. Pastry was expensive and my friend said their iced latte wasn't very good. Just a reminder why I actively avoid west loop.

There's a fair amount of seating considering the size of the place. Wasn't able to get a spot today unfortunately, but we did go at a busy time on a Sunday morning. I got the honey and lavender specialty latte with soy milk. I get mixed feelings about lavender - sometimes it tastes pretty soapy to me. I thought this was delicious! I'd definitely order again and recommend it. Overall, definitely recommend this spot especially if you're able to get a couch or table to enjoy the space!

Even though we were seated at a regular table, the place had a comfortable vibe and it was easy to settle into. The counter women were efficient, nice, and filled our orders promptly. They did give my friend the wrong size coffee at first, but corrected it quickly and without any problem. One thing I didn't love: my cappuccino was served in a Styrofoam cup while we were staying there. If you're drinking in, it really should come on a ceramic cup and saucer. Save the Styrofoam for takeout! The best part was that we stayed for a couple of hours and no one hovered over us, or made us feel like we had to leave. As for the coffee itself, it was just okay. Not bad, but not memorable either. That's a shame too, because the space is so comfy. Still, there are plenty of other coffee spots on the North Side - and this just gives me a reason to explore others in the neighborhood.

I was super excited to stop by recently, but unfortunately this experience missed the mark for me. It's usually pretty packed and on the loud side, so something to keep in mind if you're banking on snagging a spot or getting some work done. The staff seemed a bit stressed, but it was more understandable given the steady crowd. I ordered the lemon berry scone and a drip coffee. The scone was $7 and arrived ice cold as if it had been pulled out of the freezer to thaw. It was dry, unsweet, and had the overwhelming flavor of freezer burn. The coffee was a bit watery as well. I couldn't eat more than a couple of bites before tossing the pastry. $14 later, I left hungry and in search of another shop to satisfy the pastry craving. Given the other positive reviews and interesting looking menu offerings, I hope this visit was a fluke and may give this spot a round two in the future if my wallet is feeling lucky.
