I have eaten here twice. The first time my breakfast bowl was very so-so and not worth the price, but I was hoping lunch might be better. The steak bowl looked amazing but was another disappointment. The steak flavor and consistency was not to my liking. The ingredients were fresh, but overall lacked taste. The bakery items are fantastic and I may stop by for a slice of pie again but I will not be ordering any more meals. For this price point I would expect great taste in addition to quality ingredients and there are several other options in the area that can deliver on both. read more

My family and I came here for dinner the other day and we were very displeased. My husband got the brisket bowl and I got the chicken bowl. We were very disappointed in the food. It tasted like it was microwaved, the meat tasted like low quality roast beef and the chicken was dry and unappetizing. We were charged 30$ for food that was NOT worth it....if we wanted to spend that much we would have gone to Chipotle and had way better food. We also got a "free" kids meal so we ordered our child the chicken quesadilla...all it was a 3 pieces of chicken nuggets in the middle and again tasted like it was microwaved. So this place rocks and is a fresh breath of air in this area. I just moved to the area and was so happy to find this place. I didn't come at first because Yelp indicated it was a breakfast and brunch place - not true. They serve lunch, dinner, and yes breakfast as well. It is so cute and the food was awesome. The staff was great, and atmosphere was open yet adorable. Great place to grab lunch, coffee or dinner and study or chat with friends or even have a work meeting. I totally disagree with the bad reviews left prior to this. Google the menu before you come. The Thai Chicken bowl (no chx - I am vegetarian) was amazing! I highly recommend this place. Stopped in for the first time- daughter had breakfast buffet - no lunch in Saturday - staff nice! Worse gravy ever- the worse. No flavor need to be covered in pepper. Fun, upbeat, modern decor. Open eating areas and places to sit outside. You walk in and order at the counter. I've had many dishes. The food is always fresh. You MUST get cinnamon rolls. Great selection of carry out food and baked goods: sweets and breads. I go about once a week. The only negative comment in my 10 or so visits: sunny side up eggs' whites were runny ONCE. They're having a rough time getting this together after a brief shutdown when they combined their table service restaurant and this. This was counter service and is now seated. Unfortunately the ovens were down due to the move so no brisket, corned beef, or other meat that was slow roasted. Darn it! That's why I go. Waitress disappeared after bringing our beverages, finally returned. We told her to separate our bills. She asked again, we answered and she still got it wrong which caused a huge delay at checkout as she disappeared (sounds like they needed her code) so they grabbed the manager. Coworkers each ordered a burger and fries which came out with no ketchup/mustard/mayo and waitress disappeared. We got up and looked around other tables and the wait stand. None to be found and no one to ask as all staff was in the kitchen or behind the counter helping counter guests. Finally another waitress was on the floor and she grabbed us some. As we waited for our waitress to show with the bill, we watched spilled pop from upstairs migrate through the mezzanine planks to drip between two tables behind us. They brought it to the owner's attention, I think stating there was a leak and he replied it was just spilled pop from upstairs! As if that's ok! While we waited for each coworker to have the bill broken out, the owner chatted with us, we mentioned the pop seeping through the boards, offered some suggestions and he talked about it as though it's something they just have to contend with. My recommendation for guests - don't sit under the mezzanine and don't face the kitchen because you won't be able to take your eyes off the air grille that is dirtier than a car having driven down a dirt road. Now, I will say, they have amazing desserts and those are well worth the price. The $12 burger isn't. read more

We went to the old Rykse's to find they were closed and had moved to Texas Corners. No problem, so we re-routed and found the Texas Corners location. The building looked nice from the outside. We entered and I was looking for a place to sit but, hubby stopped me as he noticed the sign to wait for assistance which I hadn't seen. We were asked if we had a preference and I said not by the door as it felt cool inside. She sat us at a table where it was "toasty warm" as she put it. It was not until towards the end of our meal when we finally felt the heat had turned on. The place is industrial looking with lots of windows and I would imagine hard to heat. The new metal tables and chairs were more plentiful than the few booths. The chairs were small, slippery and uncomfortable. We had gone for breakfast (as we had done before at the old place) but they quit serving at 11 so we had to buy lunch. This was disappointing. I ordered a Reuben and soup and hot tea to warm me. Hubby ordered fries and a hamburger well done with NO mayo and a soft drink. He was informed the regular buns may be gone and could she substitute it with a pretzel bun instead. (at noon?!) My Reuben and chicken dumpling soup were very good. The soup was on the very thick side. The Reuben corn beef was cut with the grain rather than against the grain so trying to bite through, left beef and sauce running down my chin quite often. (cutting the opposite way would avoid this) My hubby's soft drink was nearly gone when he got his burger and no refill was offered through the course of the meal. He had few fries and his burger came WITH mayo and was well done. I had to flag down the manager for a glass of water as our waitress was MIA. I decided to speak up to a passing waitress that asked how things were when we were nearly done eating, about the mayo issue. She offered to get another but hubby said no since he was nearly done and had quit eating the mayo bun and lettuce and was eating the meat only. She came back to say the manager was going to discount our meal. When we were ready to pay, the manager came back offering a free pastry for each of us. We thought that was in addition to the discount when we paid but we were given no discount, only the 2 pastries. We most likely will not go back. It is like any other sandwich shop now and is not the family friendly restaurant it used to be. Footnote: We watched a larger group come in and they missed the sign to wait to be seated, also. They put their coats on some chairs and went to the pastry counter to order. There they were told that someone would seat them and take their order. They picked up their coats and went back to the front where they were greeted and seated back where they originally placed their coats. Then, they were taken up stairs. I do not know why. read more

Stopped by after hearing lots of great reviews and had to walk away with one of their giant cinnamon rolls. Prices are a little higher but they use quality ingredients and have such a great menu. Perfect breakfast/lunch spot. Make sure to double check your order though, if you do a to-go order, we were missing a couple items but noticed before we left and they apologized and corrected the error. Update: just visited for lunch and while trying to have a quiet discussion with someone at our table, the woman who was at the counter (Lori) kept coming upstairs (we were the only ones upstairs) to clean tables - multiple times, that she had already cleaned. I'm not sure if she was being nosy or what was happening. Did not feel like we could eat or talk in peace. read more

Can't speak to the regular menu items, but if you are looking for baked items (breads, cookies, etc) in the Kalamazoo area, Rykse's cannot be beat. They have a way with cinnamon and peanut butter that is undefinable. The recent selection of "On the go" family style meals has been a wonderful addition to our dinner rotation. read more

The new Rykse's location and decor is very nice and a perfect spot for a breakfast or lunch out with friends or family. However there are some points that need improvement: the breakfast menu needs more choices that do not include fried food or bread. How about a yogurt parfait with fresh fruit? The coffee area needs trays so we can carry the coffee, the water and the utensils to the table; and how about having the 'creamers and sugar' on each table so customers can help themselves when they get refills? I also suggest you add a jug for milk for customers who don't take half n half. I think you should take advantage of the new opening enthusiasm to get these improvements in before the high prices and the very young inexperienced servers become the only things customers will remember ... good luck! read more

Very disappointing... if I could give them Zero stars I would!!! Ordered a special birthday cake, on Tuesday, for my husband for a Thursday pickup. With it being a cake where strawberries are out of season; the employee confirmed with me Tuesday that it could be completed on Thursday by 10:00 a.m. I arrive around 1:00 p.m. and they tell me the employee wrote the order for Friday pick up!!! I have dined at Rykse's for YEARS at the Stadium Drive location and NEVER had an issue with their service. The only thing that was offered to me was a flimsy apology for the confusion... they never asked me how they could "fix or make it right" leaving me with no cake for his celebration Thursday. Rykse's may now have a beautiful new location BUT their customer service has gone waaaay down!!! I definitely won't be dining there in the future and will fnot recommend them as a reliable bakery company. read more

Wonderful neighborhood spot. The service was friendly, very modern menu. I got the breakfast quesadilla, which was fantastic. My boyfriend got the Buffett which was just okay. Coffee was good! Just had my second visit there this morning. The food was delicious each time. The first time, the service was great. This time, I actually watched as two servers checked on two tables close to mine, looked at me and then turned away. When one of the two servers brought my food, I asked her why that happened. She mumbled an excuse about not wanting to bother the customers by asking them how they are doing too many times, then said that if I needed anything else I should let her know and then walked off. Rykse and Co offers a great menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. There are lots of fresh options, many of which come with (or on) Rykse's homemade bread. All the Rykse's restaurant baked favorites are also available for sale. I especially loved the decor and the fresh flowers on the tables. The staff was all very friendly and helpful.
