I enjoyed this a lot more than I expected! It was interesting without being overwhelming like the Country Music Hall of Fame. You start in a very cold room learning about the history of the auditorium before going on your self paced tour. I was surprised to see stuff from Jim Henson & Harry Houdini in one of the rooms. I liked the photo circle by the stairs that you could take pics and email to yourself. You get to go up the stairs to the stage and have your picture taken (included in the price of the ticket). Most places charge an extra $30+ for pictures, and they allowed us to do a group pic and an individual one. The auditorium seemed intimate where every seat was perfect. They have a large gift shop as well.
My husband and I did the VIP tour with our guide Katie. We were the only two on this tour or normally 10. We started in the VIP lounge. I loved the memorabilia from Houdini's performance there. The dressing rooms were themed with tones of photos of Ryman guests. We had an enjoyable time. The tour includes a picture at the stage behind the mic. We received a free beverage and each of us got a print bill / sign (a poster with an artist name, date & time at the Ryman). We also got to keep our VIP lanyards. It was truly an enjoyable time with a look back in history. Will
I love the Ryman & have been to many shows here! The sound & views can be good, but you'll want to choose your seats wisely. The signature pews are unique, but it can get cramped & feel uncomfortable. The staff is always helpful & cheerful, so you feel welcome soon as you arrive. There are drinks & snacks, but grab food ahead of the show if you're hungry.
I did not even know that this venue existed until coming here recently for a concert. In fact, I'm baffled that I never noticed it being right on Broadway! It is a small venue, but the kind of place that you can sit anywhere and have a great view. It probably was a renovated church, because that is exactly what it looks like on the inside and out. The seating is also pew-style, which I would not be a fan of in a crowded setting. It takes no time to get in and out, up and down, and to and from your seat in this place. It makes everything pretty convenient.
I had a good time at Ryman. My friend and I were here for the Trisha Paytas concert and I was surprised with how nice it was. We bought our tickets a little later so we got upper level. We were worried that the view wouldn't be that great but we were wrong. We were able to see everything clearly. There really wasn't a bad seat in the house. My only beef with the venue is the seats are like church pews and they sit 5 people to a pew. It was a tight fit for 4 people but we managed.
This was a huge bucket list check off for me to go here!!! We got tickets to see Clint black. We loved the feeling of being in here and sitting in the pews. We couldn't find tickets together when we bought them. A extraordinary kind lady offered to change seats with me so my friend and I could sit next to each other. The experience here was magical!!
This review is for the tour only. I would love to see a concert here but the next best thing is a tour. The exterior architecture of the building--which was a church before it became a music venue--is very cool. It's clearly old inside and could probably use a little update, if it could be done without ruining its historic charm. The place is extremely small and intimate but don't let anyone tell you there are no bad seats. There are PLENTY of bad seats. If you are under the second level, or behind a post or, worst of all, under the second level AND behind a post. If that happens, you will be absolutely miserable. But still there are many excellent seats here. The guide recommended the balcony seating and I would agree with that, if you can't get seats in the first few rows on the bottom level. The tour is nice. You get to see a lot, including the dressing rooms, and you get a free souvenir photo included. You will also learn a lot about the history of the building and how the Opry show started here before abandoning downtown Nashville entirely. If you can't see a show here, I would recommend the tour. However, I wouldn't say taking the tour is essential. It is not as polished or entertaining a tour as the one for the Opry.
In the heart of Music City We attended the Paul Cauthen concert at the Ryman. This review is more about the venue than the show. What we will say about the concert was it was high energy, even though both the opener and the headliner started late. Cauthen didn't go on to a packed house until 9:40 pm. Maybe just getting older, but if the artist won't publish when the show starts, appreciate when they respect the audience enough open at a reasonable time. (talking to you Madonna). As most know the Ryman Auditorium is an iconic landmark venue with a rich history and a one of a kind character and ambiance. It has an intimate setting, and above average acoustics. Cauthen's bass drum and guitar were rattling the stained glass windows, and causing the seats to vibrate. Even still, it was not uncomfortable to listen to or be in the room. Ryman has a reverence about it which is not lost on the performers. The joy and honor of artists performing at the "mother church" usually comes through in the show. Despite its age, the Ryman seems in good shape. Well maintained, organized. Security is modern and moves quickly. There's always enough concessions open to minimize the crowding. It is a former church, and the seats are church pews. The old uncomfortable ones. During popular shows, you are squeezed in and touching shoulder to shoulder with your neighbor. While service is good overall, this is the third instance where we have seen an usher (different each time) be very aggressive, and not very nice. While I understand the need to be direct, rudeness and a negative attitude have no place, and kills the vibe. A sarcastic comment when asked a question and escalating emotions and tensions. This was not only directed to us, we saw more than one incident with other attendees. We dealt with it at the moment, and the person helping us did a great job to get it resolved. Don't let a few inhospitable ushers keep you away. Let me give you a little more info about this awesome place. Leaving a review of the Ryman is like reviewing a meeting with Mother Theresa--Is someone going to actually write a bad review? So much Country Music history here. We saw a show here--Country Music Classics with the Gatlin Brothers, Hannah Dasher, John Berry, and Ricky Scaggs, then did the backstage tour after the show. Great memories! Here are key tips I wish someone told me before coming: 1. Arrive at least 1 hour before the show because security is awful--it's like a comedy. They tell men not to take any metal or phones out of your pockets before going through the metal detectors--just walk thorough! So I do as instructed and it sets off the metal detector! Then they direct you to an area off on the side to be searched because you set off the metal detector! That area has 100+ men on it waiting to be searched because they all set off the metal detector. For the women, they also set off the metal detector but they are directed to a separate female area for a bag search that is actually staffed. I waited in line with the men for 5 minutes and nothing was happening--men were just standing in line no one searching them. I just left the line and went in otherwise I would have missed the start of the show! Ridiculous! 2. Buy the Ryman Seat Cushions when you get in. $10 each. This place was built as a Church, not a theater so the seats are hard wood. At intermission in the restroom, guys in stalls were yelling out about how their butts hurt from sitting on the wood for 1.5 hours. Not me--I got the cushion--and they are high quality. They were so comfortable--and it's a great souvenir. 3. Reserve the backstage tour after the show--it's great. They take your picture on stage and give you a print copy before you leave. read more

My friends and I did the self guided tour of the Ryman during our trip. We used our Total Access Pass as it is one of the pick 4 options. I've heard of Ryman, but didn't know it's history with the Opry until recently. Every 30 minutes, one of the guides does a 10 minute presentation about various topics called "Tales from the Tabernacle." I was busy looking at the Hatch posters all over the walls so I didn't catch any tales. We went out of order because they were having trouble with the intro video so we had to back track to the beginning to see the video once they got it fixed. I liked how the video projected on the sides of the room. They have costumes from various performers just like some of the other museums and of course there are mini exhibits about the history of Ryman and the venue itself. We got our picture taken on stage while they were setting up for a show. The photographer seemed bored out of his mind lol. We had a good time on this tour. It wasn't my favorite out of all the tours we took, but it was fun. It was also helpful taking this tour first before touring the Grand Ole Opry. read more
We have been to 2 concerts at the Ryman this year (Styx and America) and both have been great! The acoustics here are really, really good and everything sounded great from the balcony. The drink options are pretty good and bathrooms are plentiful, which is always important for a show. The Ryman is located in a great area in Nashville and it's easily walked to from anywhere downtown. We'll have to come back one day to do a tour of the auditorium to get all of the history as it's a very neat building (and was the original place for the Grand Ole Opry). Bottom line, it's a great place to see a show! read more

Still a 5-star for me, but it's been 5 years (and a dozen+ more shows seen here) since my initial review and I have some thoughts. The Ryman is still probably the best overall venue to see a show in Nashville. In terms of acoustics, there isn't a bad seat in the house. In terms of view, you're best option is front third left, center or right. Those sections are uncovered by the balcony and have wholly unobstructed views. But really, other than the seats directly behind the posts there aren't bad views to be found. Some prefer the balcony so as not to risk said obstruction, but if you are on the tall side you should know that leg room is far more limited in the balcony as the pews are closer together up there. Over the years, the Ryman has started featuring a wider variety of acts now including hip hop (Wu Tang were the first to ever perform at the Ryman in 2019), metal, and dance music-- you should know that this venue doesn't allow for a whole lot of movement so no dancing, thrashing, moshing, etc. If you're seeing an act in one of these styles know that it's going to be a different experience than it is when they play a club like Marathon or Exit/In--more intimate, more song-first focused, etc. Also of note--some crowds are going to stand, some are going to sit. If you want to maintain your view, you're probably going to want to follow suit accordingly with the crowd around you. Grab a hatch print if you can--I have yet to regret picking up one for any show I've been to, they're unique collectibles commemorating your show. Parking--gone are the days when Nissan gave you free parking and what's left of valet isn't worth it, so park across the street in the garage for $25. Concessions--food is limited but surprisingly affordable, drinks are expectedly high (but a double domestic can is not that bad of a value--skip liquor drinks which are weak pours and opt for canned beer or bottled wine). Staff has always been friendly here, though of all my times visiting the most recent yielded the only issue I've ever had in that regard (I was seated in one spot only to be moved to the opposite end of the venue midway through to a seat that inexplicably had the same letter and number by someone who talked to me like I was an idiot for sitting where I was told to sit). TL:DR -- the best sounding venue in Nashville, an iconic site, an overall pleasant concert experience every time (depending on the crowd). read more
We enjoyed the historical markers and statues located on the Ryman Auditorium outdoor grounds. It was interesting to learn how and who it was named for. You can pose next to the outdoor statues. The building itself has beautiful stained glass, built in 1892. It was once the Union Gospel Tabernacle and was only renamed to the Ryman Auditorium after steamboat captain Thomas Ryman's death in 1904. He provided funding for the Gothic Revival Church. It was so fun to visit the mother church of country music. read more
This tour was worth the money! Once inside and upstairs, they take you into a room to watch a high tech, almost 3D video about the history of the Ryman. I have a masters degree in video production and couldn't come close to producing something this good. After that we got to tour the auditorium, seeing all of the history and then they take a free picture. The history of this place is incredible and I would love to see a show here on our next visit. read more
I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. When I was in Nashville, I knew I wanted to see the Grand Ole Opry, but it wasn't until touring there that I realized that the Ryman Auditorium was the OG Grand Ole Opry! We visited about a month and a half ago and it was truly one of the most incredible experiences that I will always remember. We did the self guided tour and it started with a really cool video presentation to explain the history of the Ryman. Then, after that, you get a map to walk through the entire auditorium. It was super informative. We had to somewhat rush through because we had another tour we had to get to for another place, but we tried to read as much as possible. They also let you take a photo after the tour on the stage which is pretty amazing. We have ours framed in our house now haha. It was such a cool experience! We even made friends with one of the employees because my husband was wearing his Vegas Golden Knights shirt and she said she had just moved to Nashville from Vegas and was a big VGK fan. We talked for a bit at the end of the tour and she even mentioned to us that the circle taken to the Grand Ole Opry was taken from the back right hand corner of the stage because it was the least worn down. She also told us that the front of the stage, even where you can touch it, is the original flooring of the Ryman! So she told us to go up there and rub it for good look haha. I was recommended to check this place out by a friend and I highly suggest taking a tour here. It was truly remarkable. read more

It's THE Ryman Auditorium! 5 stars Seriously, it a must-see if you are into music, history, music history, you get it. It was the home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. And if you are lucky enough to see a performance, it's probably a very cool experience (it's not some monstrous venue, FYI. I have not seen a show there but would like to someday). Big names regularly perform there, FYI. Cool self-guided tour, some neat memorabilia on display and a very nice gift shop. Don't miss taking a photo of or with the Little Jimmy Dickens bronze statue out front! read more
We paid for the backstage hour long tour that includes photographs that we picked up in the gift shop. We started with a :10 introductory film, Nashville was very well done. We heard that the auditorium was a Union Gospel Tabernacle Church after the Civil War. It was a theater & home of the Grand Olde Opry with a list of performers, shows & events that rival Broadway. Jon led 16 of us into the 100 yrs auditorium. He shared many stories & has a sense of humor. We went back to several dressing rooms; Johnny & June Cash memorial room, then the bluegrass room ... with music on a small screen. We walked around on our own afterwards admiring the timeline of the auditorium, cases of costumes & memorabilia, films .... We enjoyed our 2 hours here. read more
One of my favorite music venues in Nashville - the mother church! The history is legendary, the talent who rolls through here is unparalleled, and there is not a bad seat in the house. Well, maybe 5, behind the pillars. But their website is awesome and you get to see the view of the stage before you buy your tickets. I've seen several concerts here, and know I'll see several more. read more
Very cool and historic venue that is great for shows. Relatively small (about 2,300 seats), so I really feel that every seat is a good seat, and there's nothing overwhelming about the experience of going to a show here. We had a great time, enjoyed great music, and were happy how easy it was to get into and out of the auditorium. Staff were all super friendly and helpful. If there's an act you're interested in seeing that is coming to the Ryman, I highly recommend getting tickets! read more

What a wonderful experience we had here watching The Caedmon's Call concert. Before the concert we went on the tour of the Ryman Auditorium. Before they let you do the self guided tour they show you an 11 minute video of the history of this auditorium. I was expecting a sub par mediocre history film and I was surprised at the wonderful experience of high tech quality. It is a must do if you are in the Nashville area. read more
For my first time in Nashville, the Ryman Auditorium seemed like a great place to start to learn about Music City. It did not disappoint. The digital experience to help the audience understand the history was very well done. After 15 min, the doors open and you are on your own to explore. There are many glass cases displaying memorabilia. I loved seeing the clothes the many famous performers wore. Don't forget to get your photo taken on stage. They were prepping for a concert that evening so we had a full stage of equipment as a background. So cool. read more
I had an amazing time at the Ryman! This auditorium just oozes musical history. My mom had been visiting and this was one of the main things she wanted to see before she left. The self guided tour is a great option for going at your pace. This way you can read all about the artist who have performed here take a look at their stage outfits and instruments. Right before you head into the auditorium you're sat in a mini-theater and shown a quick video on the history of Ryman. Did you know the Ryman was originally built as a place of worship?! This is a great spot to visit for those out of town guests. The self-guided tour is quick and when they're done they can explore Downtown or get some lunch at Fifth and Broadway. It's a win/win! read more

Great venue! Saw Mitchell Tenpenny on 2/3/2023 and had a wonderful time. The concert ticket prices were not too bad and the seats were good! I don't know if there is a way of knowing this when purchasing a ticket, but there are many poles throughout the venue holding up the balcony so if your seat is in front of one of them, it's very hard to see. Thankfully our seats were not. Would definitely attend another show here! read more

(Self guided tour review) It was cool to see the history but the actual museum part was kind of lacking. There wasn't a lot to look at. The movie at the beginning is very good. I think a guided tour would be a lot more interesting but it cost a lot more. There was a photo area on the stage where you could get one free photo per person which is bumping me up to a four star rating. This does not take a lot of time to do(less than an hour). Overall I think the price is a little high (although we had this included in a pass) but it is still cool to go to if you have time. read more
Originally built as a tabernacle to host large indoor revivals by Thomas Ryman in 1892, it was frequently leased to non-religious events to pay off debts. Lula Naff, a widow and mother, booked events and worked her way up to manager at the Ryman Auditorium in 1920. She went by the name L.C. Naff as a means to avoid biases that she faced as a female executive in the male dominated business world. Through her leadership, she was able to book world class entertainers including Harry Houdini, Will Rogers, Bob Hope and even John Phillip Sousa. Over the years, Elvis, Johnny Cash, Minnie Pearl and Louis Armstrong delighted audiences here. The Grand Ole Opry played to sold out audiences here from 1943 to 1974. After the Grand Ole Opry moved to the new location and as the vacant building aged, it was almost demolished. However, the building was eventually renovated in the 1990s and today serves as a key landmark in historic downtown Nashville. read more

I was treated to a great date night with an evening at the Ryman listening to Diana Krall. She played one of our favorite songs "Let's Fall In Love". When picking your seats, keep in mind the lower seats in the back may be blocked by poles that hold up the balcony. I think the Balcony seats are the best! read more

This is a classic music venue in Nashville! It is one of my favorite venues. The crowds are always well managed and security is always quick too. The staff is friendly and willing to help. There are also several bars on both floors. The merch booth is upstairs too. Plus the bathrooms are pretty clean. I've sat one the first floor and the balcony, and like the balcony much better. You can see the entire stage. The pews are pretty roomy too. There is t about the slapping of the pews for the encore that just makes this venue so unique. The best place to park for this venue is the library roughly 2 blocks away. It's only $10! We like parking there and eating dinner at Fifth and Broadway before catching a show at the Ryman. It is a great venue. read more
Alright y'all if you find yourself in Nashville TN and you are a lover of country music you HAVE to take the self guided tour at The Ryman Auditorium. The birthplace of the Grand Ol' Opry! Being in a place with so much history and knowing the talent and legends that have walked those very same halls and performed on that stage.... Humbling. They have recently added a 15 minute video presentation which honestly blew me away. There are instruments and stage costumes from all kinds of artists. We even got to pop into the recording booth and record one of our favorites! 10 out of 10 recommend!!! read more
Take the tour and see a show! Due to calendar constraints we took the self guided tour. The visit starts with an informative video. We then walk throughout both levels of the front of the house which contain exhibits and brief videos. Attending a concert at the Ryman Auditorium is a unique experience. read more

As Country music lovers we had to stop and take a tour! It was gorgeous inside, and so much history. We did pay for the backstage tour that promised exclusive photo ops, however our tour guide said no photos as soon as we got out of the public areas everyone has access to on the self guided tour, so that was misleading and disappointing. It was really neat to see the dressing rooms and hear stories though. read more

What an amazing experience! A must-see for everyone! I'm now a big fan of The Brothers Osborne! Get there at least 30 minutes before the show starts or you may miss the beginning. The line to get in is around the block, and that's WITH tickets! read more
Sometimes ya just gotta admit, "should'a sooner." 'Cause no matter where I've had the blessed opportunity to live (and there have been too many to list around the world) there have always been a few special places that have fallen through my visit "cracks" and .., unfortunately, I've missed them. Happy to say, not here! Classic, iconic venue. Anyone who is just about anyone has performed here...and we're not just talking "Country," even though this is the Mother Church. (Can I get an Amen to that?) Gifted with a pair of tickets to see Mike Love & Bruce Johnston & the Beach Boys, --we came --we saw --we heard --we loved. Important: Keep tabs on the schedule regularly. (Sign up for their email list.) This place sells out so fast, so if you are slow in checking, you're bound to miss your favorite performers or groups...or, your seat may just be "partially obstructed." (We've missed several groups....but luckily, this time we scored and our seats were fine.) Amenities abound - from plently of parking options nearby ... to reasonable snacks in house ... to comfortable seats. Oh, wait....not those. These are, indeed really like well-worn, unpadded old wooden church pews. OK....we'll let that pass. We're here for the performance, not the comfort. Not much more I can say, except...keep a sharp eye out for your fave performer(s)....snag your tix early....then sit back, tap your foot, clap, laugh, hum, or sing along. Ya just gotta get up and do it. read more
Nashville, TN. What a great place to see a concert. I've been trying to do the New Years Eve show as a tradition, when COVID allows me to. The VIP package is probably marginally worth it. There is no special seating area or upgrade. It simply helps you avoid the long line coming into the show. The VIP entry is fast, friendly and efficient. Once inside you get a complimentary poster and then snacks and drinks upstairs in a hallway that is distanced from the music. We did not partake in the sandwich offering having just ate, but we returned at the break to get popcorn and the dessert. Oops, everything was gone, no dessert or anything for that matter. At least getting our bottled water was easy instead of waiting in line at the main bar. The show was awesome, the acoustics are top of the line. If you're seated below, make sure your seat, when ordering, is not behind a post. Also the section signage is up high and not immediately noticeable. You may be in the correct row and seat but in the wrong section. Research your parking carefully. A commercial lot posted event parking for $25. There is no person on duty, you enter your card at a kiosk and then get a Bill for $40. read more

Welcome to history. The Ryman is the original home of the Grand Ole Opry and the historical centerpiece this bustling town has built its reputation on. If you like country music and learning about its history, this is a must-stop for anyone in town for the first time. My schedule didn't work out so I could see a show, so I opted to take a tour, which you can take pretty much anytime as long as they are open. I recommend the less expensive but equally satisfying self-guided tour. They'll lead you into a room where there is a very fancy video presentation on the history of the place that includes cameos from big country stars, then you can head into the auditorium and peruse at your leisure. I enjoyed looking at the wall displays which included a good amount of historical pieces and sitting in the seats overlooking the stage. You can almost imagine a show taking place before the Grand Ole Opry moved to its new location. They'll even give you a free picture f yourself up on the stage holding the microphone. It's all worth the cost and the photo is a good momento to take home. read more

There's truly no bad seat in the house and the acoustics make you feel fully immersed in the music. The size of the auditorium gives the show a more intimate feel. Valet is $20 but not available for every show. It is free if you drive a Nissan car. And there are parking garages nearby including at 5th & Broadway basically across the street. Drinks are available in the lobby, with beer, wine, and cocktails.
Is the Premium lounge pass worth it? I can't seem to find any real info on what to expect? Do we have to arrive early to enjoy the perks of the pass, and do we go to our seats by showtime?
We did it, not worth it. See review. Money ahead to give the 100+ to a homeless person. It's about a 50% rip off. Eat before you go, unless you like granola
