He arrived promptly to give me the estimate, and I told him we would like to go ahead get the work done. First, he told me he would be here on Thursday and it would be a 1 day job. On Thursday, late in the morning, I called him and asked him where he was. He told me we had an appointment for Wednesday (the day before), but his other job ran late. I didn't ask him why, if that was true, he didn't call me on Wednesday and tell me he wasn't coming. Anyhow, at that point he told me he would be there on Friday (the next day). On Friday he called me and told me he couldn't make it because he "had to take his wife shopping and forgot about the plans they already made together". He told me he would come on the next Tuesday. So, on Tuesday he didn't show up. In late morning I called him and asked him where he was. He told me the forecast was calling for rain later in the day, so he could either come and do the inside stuff today (Tuesday), and finish the job on Friday, OR he could come on Friday get the job done or finish it on Saturday. I told him to come today and get started because he already postponed on us a few times and he has our deposit. He arrives later in the day and removes the old chimney liner. He dragged our wood stove onto our hardwood floor with a piece of plywood under it, by HIMSELF. So you can imagine the scratches on my nice wood floor. He leaves all the crap from my chimney in my garage and leaves a total mess! And says he will be back on Friday. On Friday I sit and wait for him. At 11:00 he is a no show so I call him and leave him a message. At 12:30 I call him again and finally get through to him. I ask him where he is and he tells me he needed to order a part and it should be here in 5 days or so. I compose myself and ask him politely and professionally why he didn't let me know that, because I had to take a day off of work to wait for him. His answer is "I don't know what to tell you, maybe you should just find someone else to do the work". So here I am, with a mess in my living room, a mess in my garage, a 600 lbs wood stove in the middle of my hardwood floor, and he still has my deposit. Not to mention he wasted 3+ weeks of my time so there is probably no possible way for me to get this thing repaired the right way this winter. My suggestion is to stay as far away from this company as possible. ***** UPDATE 9/25/17 ***** I see the owner of the company finally replied to my review 2 years after I wrote it. It is quite an amusing story but almost nothing he is talking about is true. I honestly think he has confused me with another customer that he has screwed over. He doesn't even have my name correct. Not even close. First of all, there was NO refund. That is a blatant lie. I never asked for a refund after he walked off the job. He certainly didn't send any sort of a refund. I will admit that my stove pipe and lining was in rough shape. But that is why I called him. Not too sure why this is such a surprise to him. I was the one who hired him so I don't understand where he thinks I was upset with my wife for her ordering the service. Again, he is obviously confusing me with another customer that is not happy with him. I was very professional and pleasant with him. But I did tell him I was not happy that he quoted us for a 1 day job and it was incomplete after 2 weeks before he walked off. I can understand reasonable delays but this guy would continue to schedule us and then not show up. I have a full time job, and so does my wife. If I take a day off (or several) to be home because he has scheduled us, and then he doesn't show up or call, that is an issue to me and I don't mind telling him that in a professional manor. HE was the one who was unprofessional and unreliable. He left a mess in my house, dirty pipes and crap in my garage (that he was supposed to dispose of), and major scratches in my hardwood floor. Anyone in Yelp land can read all the reviews and make up their own mind. I have no reason to lie. I got nothing out of this deal but a waste of time, money and a mess to clean up. In the end I had to hire another contractor to finish the job and he did an outstanding job.

Last night I called for emergency service - and they have no tech available. Today, I called to get added on for a delivery and they could not accommodate that until Monday. It's going to be below zero and snowing all weekend. At that point, I cancelled my account. I don't see a reason to have one if they can't do anything for me as a customer when I need it. I'm not sure how they service customers in Southern Maine; as I live in Lewiston. However, it's clear to me they don't really want to service up here and should just stop offering it.

I received a call by the Owner of JD Power on March 26 , 2024 , following up with my request to speak with him on voice mail after listening to my message and reading my initial review . The owner was professional and stated he was not pleased with what had occurred to me and apologized for the whole situation . He then stated he wanted to make things right with me and what could he do to keep my business . I told him I am impressed he wanted to find a solution to make thigs right again and I said that after changing the battery in my Kohler Generator I was able to start it manually but lost the programing on the unit when I swapped out the battery. The owner then graciously offered to have a different technician then who I dealt with on the phone during the power outage and reprogrammed my Generator free of charge the next day . Needless to say I am going to now stay with JD Power Equipment for my generator maintenance and service . I believe the Owner is a man of his word and has made changes to insure Emergency Calls go to a Senior Manager who then will call and dispatch service technicians as received rather then have an on-call technician "cherry-pick" calls that are convenient for him . I can now say I would and will recommend JD Power Equipment to anyone needing a new generator or service on one .
