Went for dinner and ordered a few rolls. The menus could use a little love. Let's say they were well worn. We got the Hawai'i, Crunch, and Caterpillar. Everything was just ok. The Crunch had too much mayo sauce. The Hawai'i was just kind of bland even with soy sauce. The Caterpillar was my favorite but it might be because of the avocado. Our was very nice and efficient. I'm new to the sushi scene and only being a couple spots in Anchorage this is a cooked roll nothing except the green onions. AMAZING! Tempura shrimp with a glazed beef topping I will be back for this roll. Also got a California roll since still playing it safe with trying new sushi rolls and it was good. Finally got to knock one of the Ronnie's off my list. It's located in my neighborhood, so it's really a shame I haven't visited prior to today. They're in their own building, once you pass the coffee hut. Their interior is clean and eclectic. They have a mix of table and booth seating. I loved all the personal photos and ceiling decor. Their menu is pretty expansive. A ton of rolls to choose from. My dining partner and I focused in on the fully cooked ones (hello sensory sensitivities). My dining partner got a crunch roll I got a Ronnie roll (crunch roll but spicy plus top goodies). They did not disappoint. Complimentary soup and salad was perfect. What a disappointment. I was recommended and so looking forward to this place but will not return. I ordered the Chicken Kastu. Truly I've had microwaved Tv dinners with better taste than the junk I was served. Gross sickly sticky sweet sauce with peas and carrots microwaved until Every grain of recognizable nutrient was zapped by our server. The chicken was a thin sliced random breast(an oversized lab experiment chicken breast machine sliced into 'normal looking' chicken breast with TOUGH muscle fiber's. It truly was disgusting. Out for a family dinner with a group of nine. I called ahead and they had a table ready and waiting. Among our group were three children, one in a highchair. We were thrilled with the children's menu. The kids all felt special as they got catered to. The food kept coming with a large boat, numerous rolls, dumplings, skewered chicken, and of course the soup and salad. Everything was yummy and beautifully served! Of course I should mention fried Oreos! What a nice ending. Lastly, I have to mention we ran into several family friends that just happened to be enjoying dinner there also. As soon as we entered we were greeted and we went to the Sushi Bar to get a To Go order, were still searching for our lost dog and we were getting hungry it was a late, late lunch and I've always seen their sign it was voted Best Sushi by KTUU, ADN and Press. So tired from walking and posting flyers we didn't expect the Royal Treatment but we got it. While waiting I ordered a Blue Moon on draft and Leila got a water. We looked over the menu and chose 4 rolls The Caterpillar, Spicy Tuna, Spider Roll (I love soft shell crab) and a Dragon Roll. While we waited we get a plate of raw fish and crackers with smelt and sauces in a 4 stared design. We fought over it! It was a Comped treat on the house. Then I asked what's Black Shrimp - Shaun the Sushi Chef Samurai said would you like to try it? So comped us again with 2 pieces and also presented me with a Ever Sake shot. Shrimp was great. Shot - It was great! Sweet but not super sweet served in a boot shot glass with a tiny slice of lemon went good with a Blue Moon and a Orange Slice. Then Leila gets a small square of cake and cream oh Jeez are we SO getting the Royal Treatment! Haven't gotten this kind of treatment since Florida and Charleston, SC Sushi Places! Ah but alas, the To Go order is ready! We took It to my older daughter's house, and dined. Great Sushi with one exception. The Spider Roll was odd ... Spider Rolls are usually in a Tempura Batter ... This was a grainy like Italian Breadcrumb batter ... to weird ate it but it's not right. Had a kind of a burnt breadcrumb taste. But our treatment here was So 5 Star! They lost me on the Spider Roll. Did take-out and ordered small sashimi plate which should have 20 pcs. Came home and open the container and it only had 16 pcs. You do the count in the photo. Are they replacing lemon wedges for sashimi because there are 4 lemon wedges. Of course if I complained it would be no use. Sushi goals. Who knew Anchorage had a sushi place this awesome?! From the outside, I wasn't impressed. They have an industrial looking sign that isn't overly welcoming, but the interior decor is traditional, comfortable, and spacious. We sat at a comfy booth and were greeted promptly by our server with complimentary edamame. It's awesome that they include this, salad, and miso soup with dinner. The miso soup was one of the bests I have had. We ordered quite a few rolls; poki roll, open your mouth roll, ronnie roll, rolling stones roll, and dragon roll. Every single one was impressive! I was shocked by how enormous the rolls were. One is more than enough to fill a good eater up! Even the california roll was above and beyond a typical comparison. The prices were also extremely fair. The fancy, chef specialty rolls were all between 10-15 dollars which seems more than a bargain to me! I spent less than $30 for two rolls, edamame, soup & salad and left full and happy! I suggest coming here and can't wait to bring more friends next time I'm in town! read more

Went to dinner...6:30 pm. Ronnie's on Jewel lake It's been a couple years since we ate here see. Restaurant was full, which was encouraging. Brought to a table quickly, water and tea too. Made our orders and ate our salad and miso soup...,this is when it got dark. Salad was wet lettuce and very diluted orange dressing....miso was like drinking salted cloudy water. As we waited for our food, I saw waitresses cleaning tables around us. Cleared used dishes and just BRUSHED table (with her hand) debris to the floor! She did NOT wipe/disinfect! I rubbed our table top and it had a lot of dried food/sauces crumbs that stuck on. I dropped something on the floor, I bent down to get it and saw the floor was carpeted, black and very dirty!!! (Like a outdoor rug full of dirt) Then our food came...... we ordered chicken and beef dinner boxes and chicken yakisoba. It was bad. Shrimp tempura had a thick coating and was gummy! This supposed to be light and crispy? The rice was old.... I cooked and served rice for decades and I know the difference between fresh or old rice. Chicken was okay with its weak teriyaki-sauce...,again it was diluted. The eight shush rolls were SOUR!!! Words escape me to describe how horrible they were. Tempura veggies were thickly coated and awful. The chicken yakisoba was bad.... Chicken was old and hard chunks, colors were black/dark brown. Veggies were cooked to the point of being slimy! Yes, it did have a few pieces of cabbage and onions. The yakisoba sauce was just soy sauce and very little flavor. Lastly, they used RAMEN NOODLES!!!! Instead of spaghetti or yakisoba noodles like before! What disappointment!! This used be a favorite of my family... Overall the food was awful Soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, salad dressing, miso soup, wasabi (diluted with mayonnaise?), and even the pickled ginger(soaked in vinegar), Everything was DILUTED to the point of almost tasteless. The restaurant is filthy and the tables too! I do NOT recommend eating here!!! I wonder what their health score is???? Very bad food. Don't waste your money eating here. read more

I think I've found my new favorite sushi spot, and lucky for me it's right down the road from where I live. Ronnie Sushi doesn't look like anything special from the outside, but the inside is nicely decorated and both classy and relaxed. During my last visit, I sat at the sushi bar and was almost immediately given water, edamame, salad, and miso soup. Ronnie himself was at the sushi bar. He clearly has many regulars because he was greeted by name by many of the customers who came in. I ordered the Sashimi roll and some ikura (salmon roe) nigiri. I got my food within a few minutes of placing my order. The ingredients in the sashimi roll - tuna, salmon, shrimp, crab meat, and avocado, wrapped in cucumber instead of rice - were all fresh and blended together very well. Rich and buttery, but without the carbs! The ikura was also very fresh. Some of the best I've had in recent memory actually. I just wish there was more salmon roe on the nigiri because it was so good. Ronnie also made me a little complimentary dessert dish after my meal which was very nice of him. Prices are pretty reasonable (by Anchorage standards). I do wish the special roll menu had more variety since it seems a bit limited compared to other sushi restaurants. However I'll take quality over quantity so it's not a big deal. I'd rather a sushi restaurant have quality fish with a smaller menu than mediocre fish with a ton of different rolls. Unless you have a party of four or more, I highly recommend sitting at the bar for quicker and more personable service. The one time I sat at a table here it took much longer to get my food. Overall I really enjoy dining at Ronnie and I intend to become a regular customer. read more

My family and I have been regulars at Ronnie for years, once a week, and seen the wait staff change quite a lot over the years. We continued after the service became very hurried, short and mechanical. From time to time we'd get someone personable and friendly, not just the "hurry up and sit, hurry up and leave" regimen. We continued after we all noticed the sushi cuts were smaller. The rolls are great. The price is reasonable. They have draft Kirin not just bottles. It was okay and this is Anchorage so we were glad it was there. But now they've lost a regular, and to be honest we haven't had a pleasant restaurant experience there in quite some time. I order takeout, a normal thing for us to do, at 7:30pm. The person who took my call promised 20min. I know to give them 30 and came in to pick up. She went ahead a took my payment and then told me they weren't ready yet. It turns out my order hadn't even been started. I was told a lot of people came in AFTER my order and so for some reason they never cut a handful of Nigiri slices and made a roll. Around 8:20 she is offering me to sit and buy a drink while I wait while they work on orders for others who came in after me. I have to leave, intended to pick up and get back. So then she hands me what looks like the right packages tied in the plastic bag like normal so I leave. While trying to pull out of the lot she comes outside, flags me down, and says that she gave me the wrong order and takes my food. She'll "check on" my order. The whole thing was deceptive, confused, and ridiculous. I just left. We've been to Yakishabu nearby and had a real restaurant experience with wonderful staff and excellent food. The service was awful. You couldn't pay me to come back here if this was their normal service. Short version: average food, long wait, terrible service, and money hunger waitress. Long version: We came here for lunch. They brought out a meager bowl of edamame for free but if you want more, you have to pay. The restaurant wasn't really crowded; however, it took them about 10 minutes to take our order. After waiting another 10 minutes or so, they brought out our soup and salad. Since it's my first time coming here, I don't know if it's customary to drink the soup out of the bowl or not but there was no spoon given. I tried to grab the attention of our waitress for a spoon but she just walked pass and completely ignored our table. Finally after asking another waitress, I was given two flat spoons. My bf just gave up and drink the soup out of the bowl. Our sushi took another 20-30 mins to come out. They gave us about five minutes to eat before handed us a check. We barely got through half of our rolls. I just went ahead and gave them my card thinking it would probably take them a long time to ring it up. Nope. When it came to collecting the money, they wanted it right away. Despite our socking expression, that waitress demanded the check TWICE while we're still working on our food. It was disgusting. I couldn't wait to get out of there. Yup! It took them forever to produce the food and no where to be found when we needed something; but they would constantly hover over the table for the check. Food was really subpar. Gyoza was cold when brought to table. The wait time for main course was over 30 minutes. Service was very slow. The Alaska roll that we got was loosely wrapped. I had teriyaki beef, it was absolutely horrible looked like microwaved meat and was barely warm. We will not ever go back.
