Terrible reduction in quality and quantity of food offered. I no longer patronize this restaurant. Black people love fish on Fridays. It is a family tradition for us. Previously this place provided healthy portions of fish, which made it our go to spot but no more. When I was last there, I complained about the quantity being significantly reduced. It was insulting in comparison to the amount of fish they previously provided. I believe they are going to find themselves out of business soon while they practice shrink-flation. read more

My hubby and I have ordered from this establishment multiple times. However the food is growing increasingly disappointing. The "catfish" tastes like swai so buyer beware. We ordered S & S Seafood last night. The price was reasonable. We had it delivered and it was still hot when we received it. The serving sizes were reasonable too. My issue is with the taste. While the cat fish was not bad - It was cooked nicely and was crispy - additional seasoning would have been helpful. My biggest complaint was with the Mac and cheese. The color was bright orange - a little off the standard. There was little to no seasoning for the Mac and cheese. The cheese was a 'different' flavor - I can't tell you what type of cheese they used. The sweet potatoes lacked flavor as well. While I have eaten just plain roasted sweet potatoes before, I was expecting something closer to candied sweet potatoes. These tasted like plain roasted potatoes. Not bad itself, just not what I wanted. Over all, the entire meal lacked flavor. If you aren't big into seasoning your food, or prefer it on the bland side, you might like this. read more

A hidden fried fish spot in the Fort Washington area south of DC. It is a small spot located in the Olde Fort Village shopping area between a State Farm office and a place called Africarribean And yes it is heavy on the fry. I feel like Bubba Gump in writing they have fried catfish, fried scallops, fried tilapia, fried shrimp, fried whiting, fried crab sticks, and the list goes on. I went with the double platter that came with two pieces of whiting, scallops, shrimp, crab sticks, fries and coleslaw. How someone can eat this without falling asleep midway through is a secret of theirs I would like them to share. The food was good and seasoned nicely and best believe it came out extremely hot. As much as you would want to dive into your food wait. Your mouth and lips will thank you later. If you can't wait feel free to get a half and half that is only $1.79. This thing was huge and one of the better half and half drinks I have had. It is probably big because of the large amount of food you get at a very reasonable price. Just went there a few days ago and got the fried catfish with green beans and hush puppies as the sides and it was immaculate. I personally like my fish very slightly undercooked and they hit it right on the mark. The green beans were so well seasoned and although I didn't get to try the hush puppies, my mom loved them! The fish was so tender and soooo hot and good (same with the sides) and soo well seasoned too. The half and half was okay, but they have other drink choices You could go for. I used to eat here about 5 years ago, and at the time, it was owned and operated by a different family than it is now. However, the cook, an older Black lady that liked for every customer to call her grandma, was cooking there. When the new family purchased the business, she said "the old family sold me with the building!" LOL! Sort of funny, sort of insane since she was Black. But I digress... The food was really good there when Grandma was there cooking, so when she left/retired, I was afraid the food would not be as good, so I stopped going there. Well, after reading some of the recent Yelp reviews and seeing that picture of the delicious stuffed shrimp on here, I decided to return, and have been going regularly since then. So I have tried numerous menu items here: The stuffed shrimp was actually decent. It wasn't packed with imitation crab and all, which is what I was expecting. And the fried shrimp? Amazing! The batter is delicious and they're actually butterflied nicely. You even have a choice of size of shrimp, fried or steamed. The whole fried chicken wings are addictive, beautifully fried with a good crispy batter. They are like soul food wings, not your typical carryout wings. The sweet and spicy wingettes are really good too, they just need a little ranch or bleu cheese dressing to set them off. The turkey wings are pretty flavorful. The french fries are legit, good crinkle cuts, and they don't douse them in salt so that's good. The side orders are I have had there are a little sketchy though. The cabbage is usually too soggy and the greens are not all that great. They do have homemade cakes and those are all delicious! One of the best things about this place: the prices! They are pretty inexpensive, especially for what you get. The new family is also very nice, good friendly customer service with a smile, everytime! This is my go-to spot! read more

It was my first time here and let me just say I was not at all disappointed. We had a somewhat large order (group order) for Carryout, it was ready in such a timely manner. Quicker than expected actually. I personally had a daily special which was 6 jumbo shrimp, a handful of small scallops, and 6 hush puppies. The shrimp were SO good and the batter was nice and flavorful... like you were almost eating a TGIF battered shrimp...The hush puppies were nice and crunchy on the outside but nice and moist in the inside. I wanted something different for dinner other then steak or chicken. I called first and the young lady who answered was very nice. I usually don't like salmon but I decided to get the grilled salmon with green beans and collard greens. Let me tell you how happy I am that I did. The whole thing was great. The scallops were really delicious, the shrimp were ok -butterflied but a little on the small side and kind of lacking in flavor, the crab sticks were snow crab and really meaty but probably would have preferred not fried just dipped in some hot butter, and the whiting filet was pretty crispy maybe too much batter, and the hush puppies were good but there were only a few of them. So, the Guy and I decided to give this place a try after going to the establishment next door for food and seeing all the people going to S & S. This place is literally a little whole in the wall. It is small but very warm and inviting by the staff. They have so many specials to choose from and they are handwritten on neon poster boards all around the carryout. I love fish; catfish, salmon, sole, rockfish, rainbow trout! So this Carryout made me happy! My favorite is catfish! Fried, gues and laid to the side, I love it! S&S fries the life out of some catfish and they grill it to perfection! Perfectly seasoned and good to go! It is my go to! The dinner comes with 2 nice sized pieces of fish with 2 sides! I highly recommend the green beans and coleslaw! So good!! S&S offers soul food as well! From what I hear from other patrons, it's just as good as their fish and seafood offerings! I finally checked it out for lunch and it was delicious. This small family run shop in the Safeway plaza off of Indian Head Hwy and Livingston Rd didn't disappoint. I had the fried catfish which was made fresh and came out with a great breaded crust and juicy fish inside. They offer several types of fish, shrimp, scallops, and some other non-seafood southern cuisine on their menu. Definitely worth checking out if you're in the area. Fried Catfish was good but the mac-n-cheese, Green Beans, and cabbage were horrible!!! I've been ordering food from here for the last 3 years and the recipes that they use for their side dishes has changed and it's nasty! It doesn't have the same flavor or Southern or Soul food taste to it that it initially had when I started ordering from them 3 years ago. I ordered Food from them tonight for myself and friends and I was mortified and embarrassed by the side dishes, especially the overcooked macaroni noodles that lacked any cheese and the flavorless Green Beans and Cabbage. The macaroni didn't have any cheese to it and it was just a Orange color macaroni. I was so embarrassed after telling my friends and family how good the food was there. Service has gone down a lot since been under new management. I use to come here just about every Friday for my fish or shrimp but not anymore. I tried to order just 2 lbs shrimp but the gentleman at the said they only have 1lbs of shrimp. I asked him can I get double orders he said ok. Will I be charged full price even though all I want is shrimp he said yes. So I paid $45 for 2 lbs of shrimp. I been coming here for 10 years and every since the new kids are here service has been gradually worst. I won't be back here again. They have lost a loyal customer. read more
