I went to S&S in order to get my yearly smog check, and I was very impressed with how quick the process was and how kind the owner of the business is. I was in and out in less than 20 mins, and there was a seating area for me to chill at while my car was getting checked. My information was sent right over to the DMV, and I was charged $60 plus processing fee. It's not the cheapest option out there, but they are DMV certified as a Star station, so I highly recommend this business when your registration requires it. read more

I walked into this place because it was opened on the weekends. I have owned my car for 8 years now and have my smog tests done every two years. At a cost of $60 to $70 dollars on average. The technician at S&S Smog Check asked me as I was getting out my car what year my vehicle was, and immediately told me the price was $120. I asked why and all he said was "that's the price" I asked again, and got the same answer, then he walked away. Rudeness and overpriced services was all I encountered at this place. What a horrible place of business in my neighborhood. I would double check elsewhere before wasting your time and being treated with such disrespect. Update: I pulled over outside of this place after my exchange with the technician and called another smog test facility just two miles away. The quoted me at $60 for the test! I called ahead to ensure they were open on the MLK holiday, drove to the shop, and was immediately taken care of. I was in and out in around 15 minutes. The price quoted on the phone was the total price charged, no hidden fees or add ons, and the price $45, was less expensive than others. The owner of this establishment is disrespectful to women. Not realizing that I had a warning light on when I brought my car for smog, the owner proceeded to move forward with the test. When he was done he informed me that the car did not pass because an indicator light was on. I asked him if he saw that before he started the test. He said yes. I informed him that he could have informed me before he tested. He said "so you're the kind of woman who signs before reading". He proceeded to tell me that I had 15 days to get my car fixed. I told that I was not sure if I can get an appointment before then. His response, "not my problem", and demanded a $51 payment. I told him he was rude. He then told me 15 days and not a day longer. I asked if he would repeat the test with no additional cost. His response, depends if I'm rude or not. I returned the car at day 11. My boyfriend was with me. He was super nice and repeatedly addressed him as sir. He is clearly a chauvinistic jerk. read more

Couldn't have been happier with this experience. Alex was super helpful and patient with my questions when I took my car to him to be smogged. He also saw me and ran the smog test even though I arrived at 4:50pm, 10 minutes before he closed. It can be a little unnerving looking for trustworthy auto professionals as a single female, and I've definitely had experiences at other places where I felt nervous I was being taken advantage of, but I felt super comfortable and trusting of Alex and his advice. Basically went for a smog check since I have to renew my tags and not only did they do the smog but after I passed I was offered to pick up my tags on the spot. Being a woman whose husband mainly deals with car issues .... I had no idea what I needed to do. My husband was out of town and the smog was due so I took in my car. The owner was busy with another customer so he kindly asked for me to wait in the office until he was finished. He offered coffee and water while I waited. After a short wait he was ready to assist.
