TL;DR - decent food and vibe, but your money is better spent elsewhere. The mushroom salad was probably my favorite dish. Drinks were overpriced. They were simple, and for that pricepoint, I would expect more complexity that I felt like I couldn't make at home. I don't typically go for sakes but the one I had was very good, even if it was not the one recommended (cloudy and sweet whereas mine was crisp, umami, bold). Our waitress had a good personality and service, but generally poor recommendations and 12 apps/shareables and 7-8 mains were far more than needed. We ended up with 5 apps, 1 side and 8 mains, and we were stuffed - mind you, we are a group with large appetites. Cornbread madeleines were recommended but did not seem elevated at that price, did not fit the New American Asian-inspired theme. This is emblematic of the overall inconsistency in the menu (description "Korea, Japan, Thailand" vs. flavor profiles and dish components). The wait staff delivering dishes did not know which table to place them on after we had been clear which table was getting which dishes. I don't mind directing the delivery of food; it was just was a little unexpected at this level of restaurant. The pork chop was by far the server's biggest recommendation. However, it was dry, tough, and a little flavorless--to the extent that unfortunately, we had to send it back (which I never do). The server also said she's never heard of people sending it back. But she was very gracious with us. The rest of the mains were lacking in color diversity, and I was confused by plating choice. That said, flavors were generally good and in line with what i would expect at that level. However, not much of a wow factor. The dessert was the real standout. The seasonal pineapple sundae was delicious, full of texture flavor and visually appealing, as was the budino. These should stay on the menu. read more

Good group event venue. The team recommended a list of dishes based on size of group and allergies. The wide and well balanced selection of dishes was a huge hit. It was impressive that they were able to make everything delicious and creative. The fried chicken is something I often think about, I have always loved fried chickens, but this took it to a whole new level, the unique texture of the breading, the fact that it was served with habanero butter!! and creamed corn!! It hit all the spots. The Foie Gras Bibimbap with mushroom bulgogi was such a good idea well executed as well. The team is easy to work with in planning. The info was slightly misleading tho, we think we had booked a private room but it was just in the public room with 2 tables shoved together, and it was a bit loud too. The week (May 2023) we came happened to be when they first rehired their staff since Covid changes and things were a bit slow and they made some mistakes with our complex orders (a huge group with many allergies). I'd been to SKY many years ago and had their tasting menu and it was very hit and miss. However, I revisited recently after their move and was thoroughly impressed with their regular menu. We had around 7-8 items and they were all excellent. Service is also really fast, which in other places can feel rushed, but I didn't get that feeling here. It just felt efficient. Our meal took over 2 hours without dessert. Our waitress was nice, not her fault There are two bathroom stalls for the whole restaurant. One of them had a broken lock, and the other had some janky lock design with pencil written on the door for how to turn it. With the number of people working there, how has no one spent the $50 to go to Home Depot and buy a basic lock set? The price tag is of course too much, but I'm okay with that when the experience matches the price. $220 for two is too much to pay to leave in a bad mood. read more

All the food here was all super interesting, and worked really well. So many types of fusion food that I'd never seen anywhere else that they managed to make absolutely delicious, like lobster dumplings, and duck confit served with small scallion pancake crepes (suggested to eat by making little tacos out of the duck meat in the crepes). Dessert was also incredible, with this fruity pineapple and lychee flavored cheesecake brûlée. Everything tasted amazing, and was totally worth even the price being more on the steeper end. Chairs are too low and angled to the table height, table was not well appointed with linens, silverware, plates worthy of the rest of the experience. Patio heaters are oddly placed between tables obstructing line of sight (important in a small fenced in urban patio that has chosen urban style vs a walled garden). We were dressed in polo's and slacks though which may not have equaled the more modern upscale interior decor , will eat inside next time and wear a dressier shirt ( not formal but not polo). The food was a rare treat in that every course from start to dessert was both well done and delicious. From roasted Brussels that defy ordinary to the well prepared Bronzino ( cooked flaky with perfectly crisped skin) to the order in advance Bread Pudding and more , just outstanding! Technically excellent just imo a creative stretch away from single Michelin star territory. Service was a bit understated, great but almost as if they haven't decided if they want SKY to be approachable or experiential, wine by glass needs improved but was acceptable and the waiter didn't hesitate to offer and provide a tasting before ordering what were generous pours. Based on the brunch experience only, we think this is a solid 4.5 stars restaurant in the Michelin guide's Chicago group. The restaurant itself is modern and chill. Servers are all very friendly. Our server answered our questions about the menu very clearly and patiently and took our order quickly. It took sometime for the kitchen to cook the food though, which was a bit surprising because the restaurant was not busy and the kitchen looked fully staffed. The brunch pastry tier came out first and we found the Gochujang Danish surprisingly good. It really worked out to combine Gochujang and some other Asian spices into the flaky Danish here! The Manto Donuts were very yummy too - another dish that we originally thought would not work out when we looked at the name haha. I was very looking forward to the black and white croissant but it tasted pretty normal. The banana bread and the muffin were both delicious on their own, but just like the croissant - they could not give us that surprised feeling from the Danish and the donut. This tier is definitely something to share among 2-3 people. The fried chicken and the Maine lobster dumplings were delicious and on the heavier side. We liked the way they make the lobster dumplings - very Asian very homey, and the fillings are a lot! It's just the sauce that tasted a bit too salty. The fried chicken was very crispy on the outside and very juicy on the inside - but the flavor / spices of the skin could be a bit stronger in my opinion. Extremely disappointing experience. During dinner, our server spilled a lit table candle directly onto my pants and shoes. Hot wax everywhere. Not only was this dangerous, but it completely disrupted the evening. What made it worse was the response -- no real apology, no manager check-in, no attempt to make things right. The only thing offered was a single baby wipe to clean melted candle wax off my clothes and shoes. That was it. No one from the restaurant followed up, acknowledged the incident, or showed any concern afterward. For a restaurant that positions itself at this level, the lack of professionalism and accountability was shocking. Accidents happen -- but how they're handled matters. This was handled poorly and dismissively, and it left a very bad impression. I won't be returning. read more

Perfect addition to Lincoln park! From the hostess to table staff the service was impeccable...on first week! Food was amazing. Fried chicken with the feet attached was a nice touch on a delicious dish. Prime rib was rare and well portioned. Sommelier was an easy going expert and picked great choices. And...price point was fair! The room decor is great...both bench and chair seating which is very comfortable. We are lucky to have two great restaurants (Mon ami gabi) next door to each other. Fried perfect but the texture on the inside was a little mushy for me and the truffle flavor was slightly overpowering. I will definitely return. The coffee sucked! I went with a group for the tasting menu with a few additional menu items. The food was good but the service was questionable. The first course was an oyster starter and everyone at my table got a piece of shell in their mouth. No one said anything until I brought it up. If you're going to be inconsistent every time you shuck an oyster then maybe don't bother. Our second course was a lumpia, tasted fine but the server was rushing to clear the table and one of our friends wasn't even done eating. The octopus dish was good because the octopus itself was executed perfectly but the sauce was overly tart and had too much acid. The mains were delicious and we had two desserts that were ok but not much to write home about. For the price I would have expected the servers to be consistent and time when everything would come out but it was not consistent. For our pork dish we had 4 servers come out and then everyone left with one server girl looking around to see if she should tell us what is on the plate but then she decided to leave nervously which was really strange because she looked like she was ready to explain the dish but then dipped. The ambiance otherwise was good and the drink menu had a little something for everyone. This is a hidden gem in Pilsen that is a must try. They have tasting menus and also serve brunch. Their brunch menu has a good variety of shareables for the table. My family and I enjoyed the food a lot here. I've been meaning to come back again as it's been awhile and I love their black truffle croquettes! I think what makes this brunch spot unique is what they offer on the menu. They have coconut buttermilk pancakes to garlic beef noodles and lobster dumplings. There's a good mix of getting some protein and carbs for brunch here that really hits the spot on a Sunday. My favorites here were the black truffle croquettes, bacon & egg fried rice, organic fried chicken, and their dessert: cheesecake brûlée. The bacon & egg fried rice may seem simple for its a great brunch food. There's a good mix of protein and carbs and no one can't not like fried rice. Their organic fried chicken was very soft and the presentation was picturesque. Do not skip out on dessert here as they also have some worth giving a try. I loved the cheesecake brûlée which has sesame seeds on top. This made me skeptical, but I always have to try everything. The sesame seeds gave it a nice flavor as the cheesecake itself was plain and was a good way to end our brunch. I would also give the short rib & potato hash and truffle butter toastie a try. These are also dishes that were well done! I also loved the bar and open kitchen. The ambiance is great and the people are nice. The problem is the menu. The flavors of almost all of the dishes is a pervasive spice flavor that makes the dishes indistinguishable from each other. The other problem is that so many of the dishes are flavored by being drowned is a sauce. What's wrong with letting the flavor the the main dish (seafood / beef) come through? The fish is also barely cooked and is barely warm when served. Mushy, cool-temperature salmon drowning in a thick orange goo really isn't appealing. The prices are also much too high for the size of the dishes, & this applies to all dishes: appetizers through entrees. Dropped by S.K.Y. for dessert and had a magical experience. We got two desserts to share, the banana budino and the old fashion cruller. I had a wow moment when each of these dishes came out - the banana budino was creamy and contrasted nicely with the sweet and salty crunchy granola. The cruller sat on top of a beautiful rippled creme anglaise - I loved the creatively that went into this dessert. I would come back to S.K.Y. just for the dessert- the pastry chef/team here knows what they're doing!! Finally, the service here was fantastic and the wait staff were all friendly, attentive, and great at describing the various options off the main menu and dessert menu. I came here with a large group. It was a last minute decision. We called before we headed out, surprisingly they had a table ready for us. We were not seated inside but rather in the bar area. The green velvet chairs were def made for cooler temperatures as sitting too long made my back very hot. The front doors were left open which made the space warm. My group decided to split all the entrees and apps. We ordered 5 apps to share. We also ordered 5 entrees and one side. After that, we ended with two desserts. I would say that this was not enough for the group. We each had a bite of the entrees and then that's it. I'm pretty sure that if you don't share like we did, you would feel more full. The ambiance was nice, but the service, quality of food, and cocktail menu were disappointing for the pricepoint. Service: We had a group of 8, which we split in two in terms of ordering. As food came out, wait staff delivered dishes to the wrong side of the table. Wasn't a big deal, but was not what I expected from a $$$ restaurant. Our server had a lot of personality and was extremely professional, but their recommendations didn't make a lot of sense (eg recommended the cornbread for the apps as opposed to the hamachi), and used terms not listen on the menu to describe the menu items. For example, they recommended a sake but didn't use the name of the sake but rather one of the subheader words from the menu, so following their suggestions was a bit difficult. Additionally, for a majority Korean American group, it was painful to hear wait staff mispronounce bibimbap and gochujang, which gave us the ick. Although the pork belly noodles were good, the noodles looked similar to the ones i get from the Asian grocery store for $5 near my home. When we asked if the noodles were made in house, we were told "they are imported straight from China"...which....so are the ones I get for much cheaper. Food: Quality of the food was fine. The warm mushroom salad was excellent, full of flavor and texture. However, the mains fell flat - the plating was pretty monochromatic (for example, the seabass was beige with a beige sauce). The salmon was a standout, but wasnt even mentioned by the server as a suggestion. We were recommended the pork chop, as "it's never been sent back," so we ordered 2. Unfortunately, we painstakingly ate one, and sent the other back. I've never had pork chop so dry. Drinks: Sake selection is good. TLDR: SO MUCH YES to their Gochujang Cheese Danish, Roasted Banana Bread, and Bacon & Egg Bibimbap! We slid through the doors just in the nick of time before Sunday brunch closed @ 1400! We had a lazy Sunday and were starving by the time we got there so we went a little crazy by ordering the Pastry Tower IN ADDITION TO the Bacon & Egg Bibimbap, and Short Rib & Potato Hash. Definitely did not need all of those things... Pastry Tower - A mix of some clear winners and others that are just okay. I didn't care for the Mantou Donuts bc they tasted of old frying oil. The Gochujan Cheese Danish was flakey and buttery with a kick of spice that was nicely mellowed out by the cheese. (I still dream of that Danish.) The Roasted Banana Bread was moist and delicate with a lovely dollop of tonka bean cream that was decadent in texture but not cloyingly sweet. I didn't really care for the Blueberry & Olive Oil Muffin, but that may just be because I had it right after the Gochujan Danish. The Bacon & Egg Bibimbap was the BOMB DIGGITY. The server will adjust the amount of gochujan they add based on how spicy you want the bibimbap to be. We got it medium spicy (so my bf could eat it and survive) and it was very tasty! I can imagine the spicy would get the brunch booze flowing. The nori adds some deep umami, while the crispy bacon and scorched rice at the bottom of the hot stone bowl add to the texture. We asked the server for his recommendations and he mentioned the Bibimbop, Short Rib & Potato Hash, Maine Lobster Dumplings and Ricotta Bombolinis. My husband and I went with those options + the Okinawa Custard Croissant. I thought the bibimbop was decent. This place doesn't really have any signage but it looked cool from outside so we decided to check it out. The bartender, Marco, was absolutely amazing-- confident recommendations, really innovative drinks and great chat. Some of the best service I had in 2022. We ended up sharing the lobster dumplings, the sea bass and the brûléed cheesecake. They were all outstanding but the dumplings were unspeakably good. Another lovely visit to SKY is just what I needed on a freezing summer night. Every plate was so fresh, each bite tantalizing my buds for more!
