As an Asian person, I love restaurants that incorporate Asian flavors and execute it well -- such as S.K.Y. I followed some reviews' suggestions to order the shared plates instead of the mains and I am not disappointed. The lumpia and the sisig are both very good, the only small comment being that I don't think the nori sticky rice has the texture I expected (but it's fine). I love how the bread pudding is crispy with caramel on the top and soft on the bottom; however, if you're mostly full, maybe save this for another time because this is very very filling. Really cute space with good happy hour deals and good drinks. We started during happy hour with the Japanese cucumbers and sichuan ricotta. The cucumbers were pretty good, though nothing extraordinary. I like the ricotta and the bread it came with, but the sichuan was too spicy for me. The other apps we got were the sisig and the lobster dumplings. The lobster dumplings had a pretty good sauce, but I didn't think they were as good as other people raved about. I really liked the sisig, though it was a little messy to assemble. We also got the fried chicken and short rib. The chicken and creamed corn was actually really good and only a little spicy. Came back for a second time and took the lessons from the first time: order all the apps and only zero-to-one entree. The apps are all the highlights of the menu for me and we weren't balancing tons of leftovers by ordering multiple entrees. We also made the wise decision to get dessert and the service was superb. They shifted us to the cocktail bar in the back, behind the kitchen after walking us through the kitchen where we could have our dessert and enjoy another cocktail. The food is incredible, but my favorite remains the sizzling sisig. So good, such a clever dish, bursting with flavor. Love it. The tuna lumpia were good but a bit small, but good flavor. I'd heard great things so I wanted to experience it. The staff were absolutely amazing. From our hostesses and waiter, there was such a welcoming atmosphere. The ambiance was so alluring-- I loved the decor. For food, we had the chicken salad, pork chop, lobster dumplings (which was like heaven), and Brussel sprouts. Everything was delicious and wonderfully prepared. The ultimate star of the show was the bread pudding! Delectable! You can tell the chefs put so much intention into the way everything was prepared. Went for The Belden Hour (aka Happy Hour) to check them out since their move from Pilsen (yeah yeah we're a bit late here). From the first greeting, to getting settled at the comfortable bar in the decent sized lounge, we were treated very warmly and with appreciation for coming in. All I can say is that if I lived at the Belden, I'd need a reserved seat. Specials included a killer Yeti Martini (sake and herb based), excellent white and red by the glass at a fantastic price point and lots of snacks. Most things had Asian touches. We had the flatbread (crispy outer crust round and fluffy inside, like a Chinese pita with ricotta and mapo chili oil for dipping), Caesar salad (nori, radish, Asian dressing on Little Gem), small but punchy dressed oysters (very craveable), and the killer French Onion burger with short rib jus for dipping. Really enjoyed my HH at S.K.Y! The aesthetic is dark and moody, although I wish they had some sort of music playing (tbh we probably have caught them on an off day as we came in on a stormy Monday lol) They have some good deals on drinks and small bites - definitely get the Tiberio Trebbiano wine and Yeti Martini. Their oysters were fantastically shucked but the mignonette was a little overpowering in my opinion. Some of my favorite bites were the lobster dumplings and the tuna tartare lumpia, and alternatively I probably would not get the warm mushroom salad again. This used to be our favorite spot in Chicago. We brought at least 20 or 30 people to dine here over the years and frequented it often in Pilsen. We were excited to try the new location and updated menu and brought a friend from out of town. Sadly, from the start the service was rough. We were left with two drinks and an empty wine glass for 25 minutes and then a series of confusing mishaps with the wine followed. This was after ordering a cocktail on the menu they couldn't make due to ingredient shortage. We were told we could get the madeleines even though they weren't on the menu. And then after ordering told we couldn't have them after all. Our server barely spoke and the warm friendly service we were accustomed to was missing. The somm told us the wine they poured was the only orange they've ever served, but something else was printed on the menu so I guess it was just to let us know we were wrong to be confused. They brought us fried croquettes and a budino later as a gesture, but they lost us early on. We tried a number of new things and the sissig flavor was really good, but I scalded my hand on the nori holder which was really hot. Oddly the rice served with it was cold and clumpy like leftovers? We were unsure if that was intentional. Favorites like the lobster dumplings and fried chicken were okay, but we couldn't tell if they updated the recipes or our experience was impacting our meal. The ambiance was nice and you could hear without shouting which I liked. It was odd that we didn't see any signage for the restaurant (just an old Intro sign), but maybe we missed it. Have always wanted to try S.K.Y. and took the opportunity to try in their new location in Lincoln Park. The space is elegant but understated - light grays make it seem dark on entry but the windows give it light and warmth as you enter the main dining room. We tried a number of things on their menu. We started with lamb meatballs, which had a tikka masala sauce - unique and great with the perfectly charred garlic bread. A must have. For mains we got the short ribs and fried chicken. Both had stunning visuals on the plate and were backed up by great taste. We also enjoyed the tots and cauliflower as sides. Service was exceptional. I came for a midweek dinner and had a lovely meal! The restaurant has a moody feel, interesting lighting, smart decor. It had the perfect acoustics to have a conversation w/o the restaurant being loud despite being busy. Huge selling point! The billing had issues (see below) which lost a star from me. We tried: Hamachi Sashimi: great flavor and seemed like an excellent cut of fish. Rohan Duck: nice flavor Stone Bowl Bibimbap: good French Onion Short Rib: good quality meat, well cooked, the Gruyère spinich was awesome. I wish the French onion flavor was more forward in the rib. All the dishes seemed to have high quality ingredients and were well executed. The service was friendly, attentive, and did a great job. One Warning for future patrons: check your bill before paying. They charge 5% employee fee to the bill which was not clearly stated beforehand. Had I caught this, I would have adjusted the tip to not be double charged on the service fee. Sneaky and definitely left an otherwise good meal on a bad note :( I would recommend it for a date night. Personally, I would love to come back for happy hour maybe some apps on the patio after a zoo day sounds nice. Worth a visit but read the bill before paying. Billed as Contemporary American, the chef's cuisine is a thoughtful blend of palates across the world. We had the sashimi, lobster dumplings and sisig. All outstanding. The Sisg was paired with nori and sticky rice and you are provided for a chili garlic vinegar if you want an extra hit of spice. The hamachi was refreshing and light. The lobster dumplings were fresh and you could actually taste bite sized pieces of lobster in the dumplings. We had the ramen for the main course and it did not disappoint. I love spicy food so I asked for extra chilli crisp. The pork belly was beautifully cooked with just the right amount of fat to meat ratio. Wish they could've added some vegetables to the dish as that would have really taken it to another level. Service was very good. Pricy for what you get but a really well-done menu that I respect and a nice ambiance in Lincoln park! We came with a group of 6 and split everything. The great thing was our waiter was able to adjust the portions of the small plates to work with the size of our group (example 6 dumplings instead of the usual 5) which really enhanced the experience. Anyone who gives it less than 5 stars is silly whether they are being pretentious, touch a hot skillet that you obviously shouldn't grab, are turned off by a $2 fee, or have some other user error. Let's not pretend we are all Michelin star critics. Also, this meal was more than affordable for the quality & experience. Every dish was unique, to the point where I could not figure out how to attempt to recreate at home. Welcome to LP, S.K.Y.! We have been wanting to try S.K.Y. for a while in it's new location and went with a few friends which was great so we could try a bunch of dishes. Some of the standouts were the Hamachi Sashimi, the Warm Mushroom Salad, Seabass, Bibimbop, and Prime Rib (which was a generous serving). Also, I personally loved the fried chicken with foot and all - it was perfectly cooked. The warm mushroom salad was so good, we had to ask for another order. For dessert, we tried the Carrot Cake and Cobbler which were so good - I want to go back just to try more desserts! So many great options! For drinks, I love that you can split a cocktail with a friend - I literally have never seen that before! I tried the Yeti Martini which was great- super refreshing! It took a while to be seated, despite checking in for our reservation and hanging at the bar for a while - it was a little awkward that they didn't come seat us so I had to go back and remind them that we would like to be seated, but servers were attentive and friendly. Another Asian fusion restaurant bites the dust--S.K.Y. Some of their dishes could be promising. Located at the southwest corner of 18th and Allport in Pilsen in a rectangular building, the restaurant was not busy on St. Patrick's Day. What went well? The bartender and other staff were wonderfully hospitable. The environment is dark, concrete, and industrial, yet surprisingly inviting and comfortable at the same time. A view of the kitchen is available from the main dining room. Hidden behind a door by the bar are a pair of clean bathrooms. How was everything? "You're going to S.K.Y.? ...... yeah, S.K.Y. is alright," quipped our rideshare driver. We were interested in the brunch pastry tier. It seemed like it could be a good idea. It had a box around it, centered on the menu, highlighting, "hey, order me!" It came with 5 items total: Mantou Donuts, Roasted Banana Bread, Black & White Croissant, Blueberry Butter Muffin, and a savory item. S.K.Y. offers an option for swapping a single item for another. We also ordered the Warm Mushroom Salad and the Maine Lobster Dumplings. 1. The Mantou Donuts are crispy on the outside, with a condensed milk glaze, and crumbly chocolate bits on top. They were warm. They were sweet. They were cut into quarters. They sort of reminded me of French toast. 2. The Roasted Banana Bread came topped with Madagascar cream, and sprinkled with a granola mix on two ends, including some milk chocolate. The banana bread lacked a strong banana aroma. It was dense, and soft; easy to get through with a fork. Flavor-wise, I really didn't see any. The texture had a mix of the crunchy from the granola, and the soft and creamy from the bread and the cream. I enjoyed the combination, but I wasn't sure what was roasted about it, except maybe the granola. 3. Black & White Croissant--would be a pretty good winner. Was the croissant dough itself supposed to have a flavor? If so, it didn't come through. Coconut and lychee filling is pumped in through a hole on the bottom. The translucent one had a great lychee flavor. The opaque one had not much coconut flavor. The lychee flavor to comes forward after a moment. If you were to scarf it down, you'd probably not notice. 4. We bagged the Blueberry Butter Muffin. It was a muffin, with blueberries inside. It was topped with a sweet cream, plus sugar crystals on top. More like frosting. I enjoyed it, but we bagged it due to having eaten about 3 other sweet pastries. 5. For the savory, we were under the impression that we were going to be given the Gochujang Cheese Danish. But it was not Danish, and it was not spicy as all. It seemed to have scallions. Maybe they had given us a French Onion Bun instead? The cheese had gyuere aroma. The interior of the bun was rather dense, and lacked scallion or oniony flavor. Chili crisp was absent. The caramelized onions were white. Non-fluffy, flavor-lacking bread is always a letdown, along with confusion of what the actual item itself was. 6. The pastry tier comes with (A) blueberry jam, (B) sweet cream, and (C) salted olive oil butter. Great accompanying spreads. Unfortunately, they made the pastries taste better by replacing the flavor with their own. This could make a bland tasting pastry taste better, and an interesting tasting pastry taste different. The latter is a positive experience, but the former is not. Shouldn't your pastry flavors be able to stand on their own? Why do you want us to treat your pastries like pieces of sliced bread when you've gone through much effort and preparation, attempting to fortify them with flavor? 7. The Warm Mushroom Salad had low self-esteem. It had a lemon vinaigrette and goat cheese, and avocado bits, scallions, and small slices of a red pepper. The mushrooms seemed to be oyster, but fried or roasted to crispy dehydration. Rather than highlighting what should be a very nice mushroom factor, only a generic roasted flavor papery crisp was presented. The lemon vinaigrette did not assist in melding flavors. (Imagine eating tasteless roasted crisps with some sour liquid that doesn't go together.) The avocado was dandy, but the goat cheese was forgettable. It was probably a super bland ricotta instead (no pungency). If you like mushrooms or goat cheese, do yourself a favor and definitely don't disappoint yourself with this dish. 8. The Maine Lobster dumplings were sleepy. I tried to enjoy them. Butter makes everything taste better, right? But cooking away the rich butter flavor? You get 4 dumplings with supposedly Maine lobster inside, and they were stuffed pretty well, garnished with some herbs, but what was in the jade green oil? Hopefully something like a scallion oil. I had hoped for this dish to be stimulating. Brunch here was disappointing. Our ride share driver was spot on in the nicest possible way. I hope the team at S.K.Y. can work on revising their dishes, improve on them, and make them make sense. read more

The dumplings and lumpia were the best of what we tried, but honestly everything was just ok. I liked the presentation of the dishes and the menu sounded impressive. The menu still has their staple (S.K.Y fried chicken) With a couple of new add ons. Loved the Sichuan Ricotta (that mala heat with the cool ricotta) paired so well with the doughy flatbread. Mapo tofu replica done so well. Dont skip the tuna tartare lumpia (ADD the caviar!) Sizzling Sisig (comes out sizzling) paired with a bowl of sticky rice and roasted seaweed so you can make your own handroll. Definitely mix the Sisig with their homemade hot sauce for the extra kick. French onion short rib was cooked well but wasn't the biggest fan of the overall flavor profile). I wanted more of that deep French onion flavor (truly like onion soup) but it was more light/sour vinegar taste coming from the onion jus. The Gruyère creamed spinach was interesting with a real spicy kick (similar to gochugaru- Korean pepper flake) sprinkled. The Rohan duck confit (sticky glaze sauce) similar to Korean/Chinese lollipop chicken sauce. It was okay- not bad but not great. The celery and apple slices were done very well. Beautiful experience at S.K.Y. -- I loved the intimacy of the restaurant. at first, I thought the tables were a bit too close together but, my date + I ended up chatting and making friends with another couple on a valentine's date! drinks: my boyfriend had the 'fashionista' (their take on an old fashion) + i had the yeti martini. mine was good but I wish I would've ordered the fashionista as it was better. the presentation of my martini was cool, though. the food: wow -- no lies are being told about the lobster dumplings! you could not imagine the flavor profile, definitely the star of the show! we also had the octopus (nothing exciting to me, my bf loved), the seabass has a layer of sourdough and omg the crunch! I am loving this culinary trend of different colored sauces. we also ordered a side of brussels sprouts + these were the best, most flavorful order of brussels sprouts I've ever had. I was a little disappointed. Fried chicken was definitely not as good (I swapped it with my dining partner due to the very thick coating). I also didn't appreciate the chicken foot. I ended up eating the short rib, which was very good apart from the earthy tasting potatoes. We declined desert. Decided to check out S.K.Y on a weeknight for a friend's birthday, and without much research on the place, we were pleasantly surprised with the type of cuisine presented. Most dishes are served as tapas/Family Style for the table to share, and while most of the plates were small, the orders were absolutely filled with flavor. From their short ribs, to their fried chicken, and their lobster dumplings, I felt like everything served was a unique knockout. Service was extremely patient with us throughout our stay as finding the foods to order served as bit of a challenge, but our server was both patient and helpful in the process which we really appreciated. Interior of the restaurant wasn't my favorite as it gave off a bit of an industrial feel (especially compared to Mon Ami Gabi right across the lobby of the building), but if you do not mind that type of stuff then definitely do not miss out on this great spread of food. We had four dishes, the lobster dumplings, mushroom salad, fried chicken, and short rib, and the strawberry champagne dessert. All were divine, but the lobster dumplings may have been the best dish I have ever had. The chef is very talented making super tasty plates with a twist in each making you crave for more. The service is simply out of this world with the whole team smiling, accommodating and giving you a feeling of being at home. Every dish was great. We tried the tasting menu. Tasting menus can really be a hit or miss for me, but all of the dishes on their tasting menu were great. Their cocktails were also really good! Overall I enjoyed our meal here! They had a lot of interesting dishes with Asian influences. Our server was very kind and attentive, and she gave us a lot of information on the dishes based on the food allergies/aversions that we had. The restaurant had a hip atmosphere, and it was perfect for a girls' night out. On to the food- there were definitely some standouts. We really enjoyed the truffle croquettes, dry aged steak tartare and Mediterranean sea bass. The fish was so juicy and tender. The fried chicken dish was a cool iteration of the classic chicken sandwich. The dishes are beautiful, and many of the dishes have the added experience of tableside sauce pours! We were also big fans of the pineapple lychee guava cheesecake brulee! It had great flavors and textures. Some dishes that fell flat for me included the vegetable sides. The broccoli dish was very heavy with the sauce, and the brussel sprouts were okay but a bit on the salty side. The duck dish itself was decent, but the scallion pancakes/crepes were a bit bland and sponge-y. I kind of just wanted a normal scallion pancake with it. We visited S.K.Y. for the first time this past weekend on a whim. We had heard great things about it but hadn't had the chance to go. First off, the location is great. Right in the heart of Pilsen. The place itself has a great vibe, when you're inside you almost forget where you are. It's cozy and not one of those places that is too dark inside where you can't read the menu. The staff is excellent - everyone made the experience that much more enjoyable. Staff prides itself on providing the best service and is very knowledgeable of the menu, so we were able to get some great recommendations. We were told that there were a few new menu items and the team was looking for feedback. Everything we got to try was magnificent. This is one of those restaurants where you order everything at once and the staff will curate the flow of the food for you. They did an amazing job and we were so thrilled with all of our dishes. We recommend that you share a bit of everything with your party. For 2 people, it was recommended that we order 6-8 items. For starters, we got the ocean trout guacamole. The guacamole itself was very impressive, but the nori chicharrón were magnificent. So crisp and airy, a great pairing for the starter. We also go the black truffle croquettes, which should be a must for anyone visiting. Very perfect bites of crispy cheese and filling. We also got the Mapo Ricotta, which was served with some flatbread. All of the starters were exquisite and there's plenty of options for everyone. For our entrees, we got the SKY fried chicken - which we heard was a must and can see why. The chicken is breaded and fried perfectly. The habanero butter and corn are the perfect compliments. We also got the braised beef short rib - which was amazing - but it comes with a spinach that's a bit spicy and has a layer of cheese crisp on top that is outstanding. This was a standout of the meal, especially because the side was unexpected. We also got the crispy potatoes which paired perfectly with the truffle dip. For dessert, we got the banana budino, which tasted like a nice banana pudding and the granola was very fresh. This place is awesome, we're already making a list of what to try next. Not a good experience. A 24$ martini that was a small pour started the night. Inattentive service followed along with the 5% BS fee. The best part of the meal as agreed was the bread. Pork chop was dry. Great prime rib though. Sorry but not repeatable. read more

We ate on the patio , ambience was acceptable but didn't equal the level of service or food we received. Chairs are too low and angled to the table height, table was not well appointed with linens, silverware, plates worthy of the rest of the experience. Patio heaters are oddly placed between tables obstructing line of sight (important in a small fenced in urban patio that has chosen urban style vs a walled garden). We were dressed in polo's and slacks though which may not have equaled the more modern upscale interior decor , will eat inside next time and wear a dressier shirt ( not formal but not polo). The food was a rare treat in that every course from start to dessert was both well done and delicious. From roasted Brussels that defy ordinary to the well prepared Bronzino ( cooked flaky with perfectly crisped skin) to the order in advance Bread Pudding and more , just outstanding! Technically excellent just imo a creative stretch away from single Michelin star territory. Service was a bit understated, great but almost as if they haven't decided if they want SKY to be approachable or experiential, wine by glass needs improved but was acceptable and the waiter didn't hesitate to offer and provide a tasting before ordering what were generous pours. Overall an above solid evening/ experience, I would highly recommend to a friend or family member. Given the number of choices in this price range ($275 for two including tip) in Chicago that's high praise. read more

AMAZING is not even enough to describe this outstanding culinary experience! Being lucky enough to sit with a chef side view, we were able to watch each magical dish be created. Best part of the night was meeting Sol, a beautiful chef with a lovely and positive attitude. We will definitely visit again in their new location the next time we are in town! read more
