This place. The careful curation of the menu is thoughtful, seasonal and done exceptionally well. It's wonderful to have such high quality food just minutes away from Topeka. My Topeka friends. Make your reservations and put this place in your rotation. It's really great! Nicely done!

AND ALL THE PIECES FALL RIGHT INTO PLACE sablekitchenbar is exactly what Lawrence was missing. A true made from scratch kitchen where things are locally sourced. It's rare that a restaurant (one that's only been open for about two weeks now mind you) can single handedly become THE BEST restaurant in Lawrence. The chef/owner literally was like the kindness guy ever. They were so knowledgeable and you can tell they've put their heart and soul into making every detail come together with glimmering attention. The restaurant is giving Antler Room and iykyk that's a super high honor in my book. The charcuterie was next level. This was hand curated local gold. ILOVELOCAL let me tell you this.. this place is the hottest thing since sliced bread. Hotter than sliced bread. Book your reservations now because this place will be hard to get into. It's flipping amazing. The lamb was probably the BEST bite of food I've had in LFK. The steak was incredible and the homemade fries were heavenly. The apple galette was scrumptious. Next time we're 10000% gonna try the chefs counter. The service was incredible and our waitress was so super sweet. This will definitely be a regular spot!

The apple galette was a revisit that didn't disappoint, but the opera cake was a phenomenal surprise.

Folks had to get up and go out into their store and to get a plastic cup of water from lobby area. How stupid and unprofessional. Been to many wineries and tasting rooms and never experienced lack of professional preparation of no real customer service. They just lined us up to collect payment before starting. Why wasn't water on the tables for customers to drink and (or) rinse glasses instead of pouring tasting right after another was in the glass in not a true tasting with resident from the prior wine???? On the way out, leaving the event, the owner never said good-bye or thank you for coming, absolutely nothing said by owner to us a customer as we heading for the door to leave. All of the wines were nasty, and tasted and smelled like a chemical, lighter fluid is what we at my table of folks described these wines as tasting like. No etiquette at all for a businessperson to have no personality at all. He is just making a bad wine and collecting money. Been to a million wineries that have water on the table for guest. Owner just not personable at all. I would never go again or tell anyone to visit this winery. Lawrence has a couple other good wineries I have experienced in our area. Aweful, don't waste your time trying this place if you are a true wine person.

4.5 Stars This review is for their Sunday Buy One Get One…read moreFree Bottles of Wine night only. My colleagues and I went to Tannin on a random Sunday based off a recommendation from another business owner. He said that they had a killer wine list and great apps. And he was right! What we didn't know was that we picked the best day to go for a group of 6 people. Sunday's buy a bottle get one free really suited our group. We ended up ordering two bottles of white and two bottles of red ($40-50 price range) and shared those between the six of us. We were also allowed to cork-and-carry any wine that we didn't finish. We ordered and shared the following appetizers: cheese & charcuterie, roasted red pepper hummus, crispy shrimp, pommes frites, and chicken shawarma. All of it was great - especially the chicken shawarma. Why this review isn't 5 stars: We were there to ask questions about different wine profiles and really learn about what we were drinking. This task seemed out of the comfort zone of our server, which we thought to be odd. However, there was another gentleman there (whose name I have unfortunately forgotten) that really helped us out and steered us in the right direction all night. His recommendations did not disappoint. The other reason is that the rest of the menu is at a high pricepoint. We only ordered appetizers because of this. Overall - HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

My original impression was that it…read morewould be a small, upscale place, but in reality it does not have much personality and it isn't necessarily a classy experience, as you would expect from a wine bar. The inside is horseshoe shaped with a bar in the middle and seating on both sides. The wine selection, for a wine bar, is also extremely small. The wine that I did taste, a cab, was delicious though. They have a small food menu. We didn't order food, but what others were eating around us looked and smelled good. The servers were friendly and attentive. I just don't think it fits the aesthetic a wine bar should have so it was, for me, underwhelming.

The focaccia bread was sort of dense. The salad course was good but portioning was very small in my opinion. The first main was brisket and grits. It was average, needed salt and some veggie to cut thru super rich flavor. Second main was pasta and that was most disappointing course. Really didn't taste like much and tiny portion. Third course was the best, slightly above average. Good steak with potatoes and veggies. Decent portion and good flavors. The desert was absolutely disaster in my opinion. It was mint chocolate chip ice cream and sort of thin crispy dough covered in cinnamon sugar. First of all flavors did not match and ice cream was half melted by the time we were served. Overall food was just okay. The drinks: I got gin cocktail that was good and red glass of wine with Taylor's recommendation and I have enjoyed it both. My husband got wine pairing and that was good as well. The personal was super friendly and helpful. The ambiance was great and course meal experience was great but food disappointed.
