How did a Brooklyn girl end up at Sabor a Colombia in Levittown? My cousin recently brought some empanadas to my cousin's repass and I feel in love with them instantly. I made it my business to stop by today since I knew I was going to be in Long Island. This place was packed, every table and every seat at the bar was taken. In my head, I was like this must the official Colombian spot for good food. I place my order for #35 which was the 1/4 rotisserie chicken, white rice and french fries and four empanadas. Let me tell you that the food was great especially the white rice. I would eat a bowl of that all by myself, so delicious without any gravy. For me, the empanadas is the center of attention. The empanadas are so delicious and the sauce is scrumptious with a spicy kick. I was pleasantly impressed with my first meal at Sabor a Colombia. This is my favorite Columbian restaurant hands down. The food is just hands down great because it is full of flavor. I was not expecting it to taste so good. The sauce is so yummy! Had my left overs the next day and still was great to eat! Ordered a pina colada and that was good too. Service was okay. Sat and waited 15 min to be greeted and even placing drinks took a long time. The waiter spilled an entire drink on me, so that wasn't great. The manager offered me a lesser value drink for free as a result. They also somehow didn't have towels to help clean up. Just a roll of brown paper towels from the bathroom that didn't soak anything up. That said, the food is solid and the ambiance is pretty active (i.e. they play LOUD music). I really do not know what happened to this place. We'd been here quite a few times before they moved to a bigger area. The place was lively and I guess it was karaoke night as we came here on a Thursday night. Our waitress was Viviana. I ordered a Bloody Mary-not what I expected-seemed watered down vodka with a splash of lime juice, one olive and a celery stick. The fried calamari was not edible. It was hard and chewy and I did tell our waitress. The rest of the food we ordered ranged from bandeja colombiana, Salchipapas, carne asada, and chuletas they all lacked the flavor from our previous visits. When I asked for the check I also asked if there was an extra charge on credit cards. Viviana said there was so I gave her 140.00- the bill was 129.00. She did not return my change and said the rest was her tip which I found rude because I had more cash to add to it. I grabbed more bills from my wallet and left it on the table. AMAZING! My family was raving about this place non stop and i couldn't wait to come back. We finally did on my sisters birthday and mannnnnnn that was the best food I've had in years! Everything was on point, the drinks were good too. Delicious and not too strong so i could rlly enjoy them! And the prices are unbeatable, my giant plate of bistec and onions with rice and maduros was only $18 (for comparison i went to get Latin food from a Latin restaurant in garden city the place was half the size and they charged me $30) so this place is very very veryyyyy reasonably priced Especially for the quality and portion sizes! And the food is authentic columbian cuisine. They even had a live singer and she came over and sang to my sister for her birthday (my sister is shy so she looks awkward as u can see in the video) but it was soooo cute! Wow, what a fantastic facelift this place had with its new location!! Absolutely night and day. The place is packed on a Friday night. The bar is full. There is a singer and soccer on the tv. The food was delicious and the service top notch. Had a really great experience and wish them all the best with this reopening and new location. As for dinner, I forget what it was called but it was steak, sausage, pork skin, egg, rice, beans and plantains. Oh and an avocado slice. And the side sauces were delicious. Definitely recommended!! Came here with my friend after a thrift store run at Uniique. I always pass by this place but never thought about trying it until the smell of their food stopped me in my tracks. (&& I made a great choice to try it) We got the yuca fries to start and they were great. The yuca was fried to perfection and the dipping sauce it came with was a creamy garlic sauce. The garlic wasn't overpowering where you would be worried about your breath later. I could honestly put that sauce on everything (& I did). For my entree I got the steak and sautéed onions and currently salivating just thinking about the dish now. I opted to get my steak medium and they actually followed directions as opposed to other restaurants where they'll give you medium well. The steak was well seasoned and not dry at all. Sautéed onions are sautéed onions but they added the perfect touch to the dish. The entrees come with a side of rice and beans. Honestly It was so much food so you'll def have enough for leftovers. Can't wait to return and try other menu items. They have a shrimp in garlic sauce dish that is calling my name. I have eaten here many times. Usually the food is good I say "usually" because today it was not good. My husband and I came to eat dinner. We were ready to eat and ordered right away. He ordered the churrasco steak that didn't look like the typical churrasco steak with a side of tostones. I ordered a steak, rice, tostones, and over easy eggs (no beans). They brought out our food and my husband's steak didn't look like what he envisioned you know the long soft steak with chimi. The churrasco was very fatty and hard to cut through. My order came and the eggs were over hard. I explained that I like to mix my eggs with rice and like the yolk to be a little wet. He said no problem he came back with the undercooked eggs in the pics. Like cmon this is not my first time eating here they know what over easy is. My first time to be in a Colombian restaurant and in my mind I was expecting it will be somewhat similar to the Peruvian, Dominican or Mexican. I was wrong. The chicken soup that came with my quarter chicken has a similarity with Filipino chicken soup... with the addition of gizzard in their recipe. The soup came with my quarter chicken meal, which I find its meat a less tastier compared to other spanish dishes. My wife got the shrimps with clam/lobster sauce and wow, we liked that taste a lot. There seem to a butter mixed with the sauce, regardless the shrimps taste really good with that sauce. Our friends got the other dishes and when she let me tried her thin-sliced steak I think its too thin to be called a steak in American standard. For me it doesn't have enough taste... and I will try another Colombian restaurant next time to have a comparison. My family went here during COVID-19. They were doing a great job spacing tables out to keep people apart inside. We wanted to sit outside just to be extra careful. It was a beautiful day and they have a pergola to prevent too much sun. We were provided service quickly and kindly. Saturday night we came here for dinner. It was 8:30pm and it was really crowded. It took about 5 minutes for the host to show up, but when she did we were able to sit down immediately. I ordered the piña colada, delicious! Would get again. For starters I really wanted their empanadas. I LOVE Colombian empanadas! But they said they didn't have any... not sure how that happens. When my food arrived, I asked the waitress for a seltzer water since I was done with my piña colada. I basically ate my whole meal without a drink. If you know me, I'm a big drinker. I had to get a different waitress' attention and let her know that my waitress forgot my drink. The lady found my waitress and let her know. My drink finally arrived but I asked for a box and the check. When it was time to sign the receipt, my husband noticed that she charged us someone else's order (double our amount) he got her attention and she said sorry for the mixup. She had to void the transaction and then charge us for our bill. I would give this place one star for poor service from beginning to end.
