What an unbelievably disappointing experience. We chose Sabor Mix because of its impressive 4.6-star rating and a menu filled with dishes that looked absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, we never got to taste a single bite because of what has to be one of the most absurd customer service experiences we've had at a restaurant. We arrived around 6:30 PM for dinner and were only the second customers in the restaurant. It was so empty that we weren't even sure they were open. We made what we thought was the simplest request imaginable--a plate of spaghetti with olive oil and garlic for our child. The waitress returned and informed us that the chef could not make it. Read that again. Plain spaghetti with olive oil and garlic. We honestly thought she was joking. Instead, we were left standing there feeling embarrassed, almost as if we had made some outrageous request. It's pasta, olive oil, and garlic--ingredients found in virtually every kitchen serving Italian-inspired dishes. The idea that a chef couldn't--or wouldn't--prepare something so basic was mind-blowing. If the restaurant has a rigid policy that absolutely nothing outside the printed menu can be prepared, no matter how simple the request, then customers should be told that upfront. Instead, we were made to feel like our request was unreasonable, when in reality it couldn't have been more basic. We were genuinely looking forward to trying the food, but after that interaction, we simply walked out and took our business elsewhere. A restaurant can have a beautiful menu, but if it lacks the willingness to provide even the most basic level of customer accommodation, the dining experience begins and ends with poor customer service. We can't rate the food because we never had the opportunity to try it. We can, however, rate how we were treated, and based on that experience, this visit was incredibly disappointing. This version emphasizes how the interaction made you feel while focusing criticism on the restaurant's service and policy rather than making assumptions about the chef's abilities. The fish was incredibly fresh, perfectly cubed, and had the exact right firmness (not over-cured by the lime at all). The balance of the leche de tigre is spectacular--citrusy, refreshing, and with just the right kick of heat to keep you coming back for more. Located in a strip mall on Beach Boulevard with Aroma Corner, Sabot Mix offers a nice variety of peruvian food. We started with the tostones con camarones and ceviche. The tostones had a lemony sauce that completely smothered and overpowered the shrimp. My dining partner thought the ceviche was good. I got the lomo saltado for my entrée and it was ok. The beef could've been more tender and better seasoned. There was a lot of liquid on the plate and the fries were already soggy at the time if they brought it out to the table. This wasn't one of the better lomo saltado dishes that I've had. I was hoping to be wowed here based on the amazing reviews but we found the food to just be ok. We've had both dishes at other Peruvian restaurants & these rank as top tier in our opinion for Jacksonville. The menu description of "bright shrimp in a lemon sauce" did not reflect what was brought to our table- tostones covered in a soupy yellow sauce containing sparse bits of what looked like boiled egg white & maybe shrimp? I was a bit skeptical when my husband ordered this appetizer per the recommendation of our waitress. I took 1 bite & was done - there was so much overpowering sauce that I'm not sure if I tasted shrimp or egg?, Yuck! I couldn't eat any more of it. Shortly afterwards, A different waitress inquired as to how our dishes were & my husband relayed our thoughts on the appetizer but she simply shrugged it off & went about her way. Needless to say, my husband finished this appetizer before we left the restaurant to not have to take it home in a carry out container. In summary, I would return to Sabor Mix for their fantastic entrees, drinks and cool ambience but they get a hard pass on their "tostones with bright shrimp"! So happy to have found this hidden gem. After a trip to Peru (pre Covid) I was on the hunt for some amazing Peruvian eats in Jax and man did this place hit the spot. We were the only table when we got there, however 2 additional parties showed up while we were there. Service was spot on. The waitress was super passionate about the food and really sold us on the entire menu. Food blew me out of the water. I got the ceviche trio which ended up being enough for 3 meals. It was fresh and so full of flavor. The waitress even told me the best way to eat it as a leftover dish. Everything on our table looked amazing. I was craving ceviche and thanks to Yelp found this listed and decided to go for lunch and give it a try. I'm so happy I did as this is my new favorite restaurant. It's big open dining room and very clean and bright, I was immediately greeted by a nice young waitress who was happy to explain any questions and she recommended her favorite ceviche which was so amazing. They have a fantastic menu and maybe 15 different ceviches to choose so I'm excited to try them all! So I ordered the appetizer Papa a La Huancaina Which is a Peruvian dish of boiled potatoes in a, creamy sauce called huancaína sauce made from yellow peppers, it was good but not spicy. For my ceviche I chose the Ají amarillo ceviche which is White fish marinated and prepared with Peruvian yellow pepper cream recipe sauce, unreal!!! Then I also ordered an entree Jalea mixta which is a mixture of assorted deep fried seafood accompanied with a delicious pickled red onions salad, also unreal delicious. The servings are large so I had leftovers and fed both myself and my husband for supper. And it was all just as delicious the second time around. Please go and enjoy this wonderful restaurant. Have you ever seen The Voice on TV? The judges cannot see the performers but instead can only hear their vocals before they make a decision to have them on their team. You should do the same with Sabor Mix. While the dining room is very spartan with the only real decorations are four TVs mostly showing soccer, close your eyes and taste. The FOOD IS FABULOUS. Maybe I should repeat myself. FAB.... Okay, you get the picture. This is Peruvian food that is made for a luxury private yacht. The plating is especially amazing (insert pictures here :)). We tried a number of dishes: Bam Bam Shrimp - amazing appetizer, with lightly fried shrimp. Fried Yuca - Yuca was good, but the sauce that went with it was delightful, I wanted to drink it. Inka Cola - my daughter was thrilled they had this from her trips to Peru. It is a unique lightly colored soda that is unlike anything I have tried before. Seafood Ceviche - this was my entree and the sauce was delicious. Shrimp, white fish, calamari, with traditional Peruvian corn kernels. It also had mussels but they were not soaked in the sauce. Panka Chicken - if you don't like Ceviche, then this is your dish. The flavor was AMAZING but it was also gluten free and dairy free. Loma Saltado Tacos - my son and his friend are not always the most adventurous eaters and they loved this dish, fries, steak and a delicious brown sauce that they sopped up. Parking is plentiful out front of the restaurant. Service is pleasant but English is a second language, so be patient. The dish was flavorful, but I got about 8 pieces of beef for almost $18. My rice was slightly undercooked which was eh. My friend really seemed to enjoy her dish and even finished her extra order of yucca fries. She got about two handfuls of yucca fries for almost $10. I was shocked by the small portion size for the price. Didn't know this but the restaurant does add a service charge for using credit cards. read more

Best Peruvian restaurant in Jacksonville. This is the only place with all the traditional dishes you want to try from Peruvian cuisine. They also have all the drinks from Peru. The wait staff is all very helpful and extremely patient as there are many patrons that are not familiar with the food. I went with my wife on a Monday holiday around 430P after running some errands. The restaurant is not well lit so we weren't even sure it was open until we got to the front door. It's a wide open dining room with tables and booths pretty tightly packed in. We were the only two people in the entire place other than the 1 server and 1 cook. My wife loves bang bang shrimp so that's what we started with. There were probably 6 shrimp that were pretty decent sized. The still had the tails on them and were lightly fried and coated in a not too spicy sauce. They were served with a few pieces of fried yuca and a side of huancaina sauce. We had a couple of questions about the menu but the server struggled to understand English. I know a little Spanish so we tried that. It got us about 90% of the way there but the server gave up after a few minutes so I told her we needed some more time to look over the entrees. My wife went with the Chi Jau Kay. She doesn't like fried rice so she got hers with white rice instead. It was basically panko fried chicken in a light teriyaki glade. The teriyaki was pretty light so she got an extra side of sauce. I tried a bite. It wasn't bad but it wasn't anything special. That's what she gets for ordering chicken at a Peruvian ceviche restaurant. I ended up going with the Aji Amarillo at the server's recommendation. It was a decent portion of whitefish, sliced red onions, fried corn kernels and the largest pieces of corn I think I've ever seen. I probably would have given 5 stars if there wasn't so much cilantro. I know ceviche has cilantro but there was a ton. It over powered most of the dish. I took off what I could before I dug in. I don't know what we'll make it a point to go back but I'd go again if someone suggested it. read more

She told us that one of the best cooks when it comes to Peruvian food is her mother and even her mother will come here to eat versus eat her own food at times. Now she wasn't pushy! She was sweet, and very informative! But she certainly made sure we understood the menu and what she considered would be in our best interests. We started with the traditional ceviche! Excellent! The best ceviche I have ever had! My wife had the "Sudado de Pescado" . My son had the carne asada- he wasn't too much of a fan of the dish. Since we are Puerto Ricans our taste buds are conditioned to our beans and rice tasting different. I tasted his dish and had him add salt and ketchup, but it still didn't taste the way he would've liked. However, as I mentioned our taste buds had to adjust to a different style- Puerto Ricans cook with a heavier hand of salt. So if you are Puerto Rican, Dominican, or even Cuban- adjust your mind when you come in. Their garnishing is gorgeous! The service is top notch! The place is clean!
