I have been here before a few times but I never reviewed it because it has always been on the off-season and although the garden was nice, it definitely wasn't showing its full potential. I am so glad that I took the time to visit again last week. The variety of roses is incredible, with countless colors and fragrances throughout the garden. There is beauty all around no matter where you look. This garden is the kind of place where you can easily spend an afternoon walking through the paths, taking photos, or just sitting and enjoying the scenery. The surrounding park is just as enjoyable with plenty of shade, ample seating and convenient street parking. While I was there, there were lots of people out enjoying the beautiful weather, and so many people walking their dogs. I had my little pup with me and she got to make lots of friends. It was also still incredibly peaceful even though there were many people out and about. This this whole area feels welcoming. A gentleman asked me to take some photos of him for his wife and we had a great conversation about his matcha and he recommended a new coffee shop to me. I also got to meet lots of other dog owners and everyone was warm and friendly. This garden is definitely worth a stop, especially in late spring and summer when it's in peak bloom.

I just stopped in for a late April visit and the garden smelled wonderful and there was a good mix of flowers in bloom. There's street parking all along the park and when you're done exploring the garden you can explore the rest of McKinley park or venture out to some of the nearby businesses.

The facility is a bit dated but has lots of charm. I am a bigger girl and was actually quite uncomfortable in the seating in the amphitheater but that is nothing new. Also, they did seem to have some issues with sound and lighting but I have since read that those issues were caused by the production company and not the fault of the center. The availability of only two restrooms caused long lines and (at an event that was serving drinks) cause me to start the "potty dance" while waiting. A staff member directed me to another restroom across the center and after a very long walk, I was pleasantly surprised with an actual restroom with stalls. Walking through the center, it becomes apparent how important and valued this location is to the community and although I could barely give my own personal experience here two stars, the center itself deserves a much higher rating. Looking around at all they had to offer, I was impressed and really believe this location is quite a gem. I look forward to attending more events here in the future.

Both are located within the Fulton and Arden Way area and within minutes from our humble abode... This Sac County community pool has so much going for it yet the #1 area of consistent weakness which negatively affects the entire experience is the lifeguards; sigh... In essence it is the lifeguards who run and are responsible for every swimmer within it as well as maintaining a safe environment during its open swim session. Hard to believe that it would be the hands-off approach and turning a blind-eye of all the lifeguards to date; @ this location that would spoil what should be an awesome afternoon spent swimming. The clearly posted "Pool Rules" are simply not enforced by said lifeguards which has resulted in very unsafe and chaotic experiences within the largest pool of two. Instead of swimming I have found myself overly monitoring my daughter as well as myself to prevent injury while in the pool. This in itself is ludicrous as well as unpleasant and is a waste of energy and limited time. Examples: Footballs in the pool are allowed to be thrown to individuals lined up at the diving board and while jumping off of the diving board nonetheless. Stray uncaught footballs slammed into people on numerous occasions who weren't even expecting them as well as small children nor of whom they were intended for; including our daughter. The lifeguard posted at the diving board said not one word as this behavior continued on more than one trip to this pool. To make matters worse the lifeguards stationed around the pools also allowed this football game to continue within the large pool for hours on end which resulted in them taking over the entire pool and made it stressful to swim as who can truly lounge about and even swim when a non-stop game of ill-aimed football is occurring? Precisely... The liability this pool is setting the stage for is mind-numbing at the least. Now onto some statistics: Every Monday is $1 swim days. For 1 buck you can enter the pool and swim during the current seasons hours of operation: 1-4pm; M-F. The rest of the work week it's $3 to gain entry with the same hours of operation except on Saturdays the pool is open from 3-6pm and closed Sundays whereas Cottage pool is currently open on Sundays from 230-530. Good sized water slide which does not require a swim-test prior to using it but does have its own set of rules for its use. Clean restrooms located super close to the pool and on the backside of the diving boards deep end of the pool which is at 10 feet which makes underwater swimming amazingly fun when not being assaulted. The check-in and pay area runs consistently super-slow and it appears it's due to a lack of staff but I don't know. What I do know is that this is an area that is need of improvement and could be very easily rectified if attention was paid to it. Snack bar: They have it but I haven't shopped it as we pack our own refreshments and food along with us but from the pics I've posted here on Yelp their pricing is quite affordable. Every 45 minutes into the pool sessions the whistles are blown & anyone under 18 must evacuate the pool allowing for 15 minutes of adult-only swim time. Normally I wouldn't take advantage of this however at this pool the lifeguards do not monitor the swimming "etiquette" of the under aged making for a battle zone of being kicked, slammed into, jumped on and hit by flying objects as well as body parts so the adult swim has become a favorite of mine at this pool which is a shame. The lifeguards at this location could take a lesson or three from the lifeguards working at Cottage Pool. On a side note who in the hell teaches a kid to swim above water as well as underwater with their eyes shut? It's this closed eye swimming that is on the top two list for other pool inhabitants getting the crap kicked and smacked out of them. Goggles would help immensely as would some basic common courtesy & mannerisms. Yet I digress... Arden Manor Pool is located & surrounded by a cute little park with lots of beautiful shade trees as well as a play area. However it unfortunately doesn't appear to be monitored by security or pool personnel therefore on our trips here we've been approached by panhandlers & less than savory individuals asking for money. Even little kids are doing it. Despite the fact of all the negatives I've detailed above I really do love the nature setting as well as amenities this public pool has to offer & I will still swim here due to its proximity to our Casa & "true potential" but it's a shame really as until a better system is implemented for safety all the way around the County is really selling itself short & doing a disservice to the tax paying citizens who patron & fund it. Water Safety isn't just about the prevention of drowning it also encompasses maintaining a safe environment all the way around...

Summer camp the kiddos have THREE swim days a week! When they come home from camp they are pooped! If you're looking for a place to send your kids for the summer...this place is it! The nature…read morecenter is a small quaint walk through where you can learn about some of the insects and animals and then you head out to the trails. The trails are nice medium length distances for our kiddos. We walked alongside the American River, skipped rocks and stopped for a quick snack (we brought). If you are lucky enough you will come across birds, deers and even a coyote on your walk through the trails. Very fun experience for the family would recommend.

With the hardwood floors, wooden beams and long windows, it's already nice on the inside, but how you decorate it really makes a difference. I've seen pictures of weddings that used plastic table cloths and balloons, and while there's nothing wrong with going that route, it does cheapen the room. Although rental includes the use rectangular tables and brown chairs, we rented our own white chairs and round guest tables. For us, the rectangular tables worked well for the head table, buffet and present tables, but there was no way I was using those ugly brown chairs. We had no problems with the A/C, bathrooms or outlets. We had a lot of stuff plugged in throughout the room, although we did not use the stage. The ovens did have some heating problems, but in the end, everything worked out and our food was hot and delicious. We had round tables set up for 150 or so guests and had plenty of room to move around and dance. Parking is definitely a downside. There is a small lot for the Shepherd's Garden & Art Center behind the park on the 33rd Street side guests can use, but it's first come, first serve. We included a basic wedding map of the area, and some guests still couldn't find the parking lot. Tips for renting this place: - Ensure you have a facility worker nearby to help you with any problems. - If it's summer, book the hall when the pool is closed/or will be closing soon. - Schedule your vendors to arrive extra early because of the parking situation. - Offer a shuttle service from your ceremony site or encourage guests to carpool to the reception. - Keep in mind the time of day. Our reception started around 4:30 on a Saturday in the summer. That was a busy time for the park and parking, but by the time the we came in from doing pictures at another location, things had died down. Our photographer was able to find parking right away to follow us in and document everything.

On the night of Saturday, April 9, 2011 -- there was only ONE working electrical outlet on the stage area where the DJ was set up. This was enough power to operate the speakers, amplifiers, mixing consoles and CD players (about 3000 watts needed), but there was no other outlet for computers, lighting, or the photographer to plug in his laptop computer so he could edit his images. In addition, the bathrooms are filthy, due to the hall being in a Public Park Library building. Parking situation is atrocious, making it extremely difficult for vendors to load their deliveries for tables/chairs, or sound equipment, etc. There is no direct way to load into this building! I could go on and on, but my best advice is "Caveat Emptor"
