Everything I had here (briskets and slaw) was very good. The only down side is the portion size, which could be bigger.

Food was delicious and the atmosphere is very comfortable and welcoming. My husband and I split everything that we ordered so that we were able to taste the maximum amount of bbq. I ordered the brisket sandwich with a side of beans and a dollop of cornbread. Everything on the plate was absolutely delicious! The brisket was crispy yet juicy and the amount was perfect! I tried all of the sauces and liked the mustard and Carolina the best. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of potato salad. We both enjoyed the pulled pork, although the serving size on the bun was kind of small. No big deal though we still enjoyed it! And unfortunately neither one of us liked the potato salad very much. Everyone was SUPER friendly!! Seating was very limited, but a table opened up and they quickly cleaned and claimed it for us. The food was delicious!! Saddleback definitely lived up to the high standards that I had expected. Ambience is all you need from a BBQ joint; tables with chairs. Parking is simple on street, and offers a good opportunity to watch people struggle to perform their semi-annual parallel park. Dining area is tight, but there are tables outside for when the weather isn't covering them in snow. Saddleback has an awesome staff, music you care to bob your head to, and food that somehow exceeds their other qualities. Wednesday is Wu-Tang wing Wednesday, and these wangs bring the ruckus. Had the pulled pork, brisket, and burnt tips. All the meat was delicious. For the sides we had mac and cheese baked beans coleslaw and fries. Coleslaw was the only disappointment just needed to be a little sweeter for our taste. Service was quick and friendly. My #1 "let's go eat there" recommendation in the Lansing area. Saddleback is a carnivore's dream. Skip breakfast so you have room for more meats (I love their brisket, but it's all good). The beans are excellent. Corncake is fantastic. I'm personally not a fan of slaw, so I have no opinion. As much as I love their beans, I'm non-committal about the potato salad. Skip it and get more brisket. Room for improvement: the seating. It's great for lunch on a nice day. Grab a picnic table, meet new people when they ask you to pass the sauce. So. Freaking. Good. There is absolutely nothing here that isn't good. I've been here more than a few times and I have always been impressed. The brisket, pulled pork, and ribs are always a good idea. I've lived in the area for a little under a year and had great food from here many times - always carry out. Everyone in the area seems to know they have great food. Yesterday I was supposed to bring a dish to share for a school picnic and though I had planned to make something time got away from me. The staff didn't balk at my same-day "catering" order and even had it ready in a serving container with a serving spoon. It was the easiest solution to my problem and everyone was kind and quick. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, Mac n cheese, and deviled eggs for lunch. The M&C was okay, too "Velveeta cheesey" for my taste and don't love twisty pasta. The sandwich was very good and the deviled eggs were awesome - unlike an earlier review, I received four eggs, not two. The cornbread that came with the sandwich was also very good, but was not a slice of bread, only small pieces (like big crumbs). Where to start...At the beginning. The service was good, the food tasted okay, and the place was clean. That is about all that I can honestly say was good. The portion size is way too small. I am not asking for a ton of food but for the money you pay you should get more. I ordered the brisket meal which literally came with two slices of fatty brisket and a 2 oz scoop of their corn cake for $9.00. I was quite disappointed at the size of the meal and what was included. This was our first and last time going here. I have had better BBQ at a better value other places in Lansing. My wife had some kind of pulled pork tacos or something. Again two tacos and corn cake with some pickle relish or such on the side. She was fine with hers because she is quite a bit smaller than me. We also ordered the candied bacon deviled eggs. These had almost no flavor other than the off putting candied bacon which I took off of the remaining pieces before I ate them. Again...overpriced at $5.50 for 4 pieces which is two actual eggs. I know the cost of making deviled eggs and they shouldn't be that much. My smoky bacon jalapeno eggs are much better than these. The sweet tea is way too sweet. I go down south quite often and judge all other sweet tea by what I get in the south. I had to have him blend it half and half with regular tea and even then it was too much. Others that talk about meager servings are spot on and those who say the servings are generous or huge must eat like mice. They are in no way generous or huge. Lesson learned we will not be returning to this place. read more
