Stopped for a late lunch looking for something non-chain restaurant. Saddleback fits that hole-in-a-wall establishment. I had the beef brisket that had a subtle flavoring and then you dress it up with a sauce to your taste. The brisket was good, very tender. The pork and bean side was great, melt in your mouth pork that was more than expected in volume. The potato salad was middle of the road, good but not special. Service was good, order at the register and they deliver your food. Could use a little more cleaning as finger smudges on the at table silverware can be expected with kids in a casual place.

I got the chicken tacos with mac and cheese and corncake! I didn't order in, so I can't really speak on the ambiance. However, the 5 seconds I was in there were great! The good: The service was quick and they were friendly! The portion sizes are very nice, especially for the special they had going on! The sauces were really tasty, a good spice and a good tang The bad: There really weren't any!

They are a good bbq pit. I use them as a standard bar for rating other restaurants to for bbq meals. Maybe it's the special flavors of their sauce or the one time I had a ghost pepper sauce from some other restaurant and remembered how awesome my first experience with it ( referring to the sauce and also my first time with the saddleback bbq order). I look forward to giving an unbiased review in exchange for their award willing food in the future. Know that this is an impromptu review without any compensation- and I did not eat there recently. So, lol - pun intended- take it with a pinch of salt.

Today was my first time at saddleback, and food here was absolutely phenomenal! The food and atmosphere closely resembled what I feel like I might see at a traditional southern bbq place down south maybe. The service was spot on and staff were so nice. My only gripe at really no fault of the business is the lack of parking, but worth the struggle every bit. Will be back again soon!

When you drive up to this place the first thing you will think is "what a hole in the wall". It is in a part of Lansing called REO Town. (Near where the trucks where once made) Don't be fooled. This is some of the best BBQ I have ever had. Heck I didn't use any sauce. The meat was wonderful as it was. I had the beef brisket, my wife ordered pork (she skipped sauce as well) My brother in law and his wife got Caesar salads with meat. Meals came with jalapeño cornbread (mild enough that everyone at table loved it) and spicy pickles I also ordered the deviled eggs. ( I make great deviled eggs so I like to compare other ideas) This place is worth the trip to Lansing's REO Town. Visit some of the other shops as well.

Placed my first and possibly last order 9/15/17. I ordered the burnt ends since I'd heard about them when I was in the south, I was so excited about it until I picked up my order and made it home.They were soooo fatty, sitting in grease, and such a tiny container that usually fit a side dish, with a piece of texas toast, a few pickles & something that looked like it had fell apart possibly a hush puppy or corn bread ball and a waste of $9.00 plus tax. I was extremely disappointed and a total waste of my hard earned money. I would of rather donated that towards a worthy charity. read more

I was an athiest for almost 9 years before I stopped into this godly establishment but the food is just too divine not to be from above. Delectable brisket and brisket sandwhiches, and succulent sides. No matter what you do grab an order of pork rinds to go, you get like infinite of those sons o' guns for 2.25 and they are actually good and spicy. The employees are top shelf here, the staff is always super accommodating and happy. It seems like they actually care about their food and service and it shows in the quality of the delicious meats. Definitely give this place a try and get some of those pork rinds. read more

Stopped here based on reviews after an MSU game. Small place with only like six tables. Staff was awesome and very attentive. Food was very good with perfect portion, not too little and when I was done I was comfortably full. Brisket was tender and flavorful as was the pulled pork. Three different sauces on each table make for good variety of flavors. Prices with meal, sides, and drinks are $12-15/person. I'll definitely return. read more

The best BBQ in Lansing! If you're lucky enough to be there Wednesday for the Wu-Tang wings it's one of the best bites in town. I also love the brisket. And as strange as it sounds their pickles are the the best I've ever had anywhere. read more

This place delivered in every way. The smoked meat and sauces are awesome - clearly a lot goes into it behind the scenes. The rest of the menu has simple sides but they are well thought out and delicious. I'd highly recommend. You'll see complaints of them running out of food and closing by 7 PM, but that's real BBQ folks. Pretty hard to fast-track a brisket. If you want to be guaranteed a rib sandwich at 10 PM, go to McDonalds. read more

Ribs blew me away, perfect! All meat, perfectly cooked, and seasoned! Great service and great sides. Pork rinds are homemade and worth trying. A little pricey, but all good food cost a little more. Mill definitely be back. read more

The worst BBQ I have ever had across the many southern and Midwestern states I have visited. The staff (a guy) had the audacity to tell me how BBQ is served in the USA. Only because he works there does not make him an expert. Brisket was small 3 strips for ~$9 and the pulled pork sandwich was similar for a total of ~$20. The tiny side of cheese jalapeno cornbread was dry as a bone. The pickles the guy raved on about were 3 slices the size of a quarter. We were never more disappointed in an establishment as this. Complete garbage, do not waste your time and money. read more

Lordy lordy I can't wait to get back here. Visiting our Spartan and so glad to have found this place. We each had a different meat and were all over the moon, from the brisket to the ribs, pulled pork and chicken. The "corncake" is a corn stuffing/pudding yummy thing (a little too sweet) and all the sauces were great. read more

Different twist on sides, nice surprise. Pulled Pork was juicy and the three sauce choices were all good, I liked the tomato based sauce best. Decor is homey with a modern twist. The owners are hands on and the staff is very attentive. Well worth the visit and plan on many more. read more

I visited this place last week. The ambiance was to my taste, and the staff was friendly. I had pork and brisket side of slaw. It was ok. The brisket was sliced a bit thin for my taste. I liked that the sauces came in reclaimed whiskey bottles, but they were not remarkable otherwise. The slaw was grey with black pepper, which I did not care for at all. I will admit I am only a medium spice guy, but coleslaw should be a cool creamy counterpoint to a spicy sauce, in my opinion. I think some of the other dishes looked interesting, like the chicken tacos, but for basic barbecue this is middle of the road. read more

I'm down to try any barbeque place and I'm glad my friend dragged me here a couple weeks ago. Good prices, and I loved the building and decor. Everything was AMAZING. I'm indecisive so I couldn't quite pin down which barbeque sauce was my favorite so I was dabbling in all of them for my tacos. The mac-n-cheese was phenomenal, and good enough to be a stand alone meal. The jalapeno corncake was a little sweet and a little spicy and something unexpected that really stole the show, and I love that they include that in the specials otherwise I probably wouldn't have tried it. Staff is super friendly and helpful when you're trying to decide what to order. read more

I've had BBQ in Memphis and Nashville none better than Saddleback. The pulled pork sandwich and fresh cut fry's yum and get xtra of the corn mush!The house made BBQ sauce icing on the cake. I loved it!!! read more

Finally made it in, and I can say Saddleback has is it figured out. A well executed lunch from the texture and taste of the brisket to the three sides (hand cut fries, chipotle pasta salad, and the Bernie's sweet potatoes). All three sauces were on point, and lastly the staff were all educated and kind. Plus it's one of the anchors in REO Towns comeback. Check them out. read more

Probably the best BBQ I have eaten. I got the 1/2 rack, my husband the pulled pork sandwich. Lots of meat on the bones. Coleslaw was good. Very different. Baked beans my husband said was good. Corn bread awesome! Nice BBQ atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. read more

Pulled pork and greens! Yum!! It was very busy with a long line but the line moved very fast and food was delivered to our table much faster than I expected. We all enjoyed our meals. Ribs, brisket, pulled pork sandwich, cornbread was delicious and their greens rival family recipes. I wish we lived closer! It wasn't cheap but it was worth every penny. Loved it. read more

By far the best BBQ IN LANSING! Very nice group of people running the joint I have only had the pleasure of trying their half rack of ribs however I was very intrigued when it was served dry rubbed with sauce on the side being somewhat of a grill junkie, I tend to enjoy the flavor of a dry rub, opposed to a piece of meat slathered in sauce. They really know how to infuse flavor, without taking the character away from the dish. So if you are looking for a succulent well seasoned piece of meat and your grill is put away for winter and you want to get an education on how your grill skills need work Try Saddleback! The employees were really good. Welcomed us and informed us about the menu and meats. However, we were less than impressed with our chicken tacos. The portion of meat, corn tortillas and side offerings was not proportional to their price. Smallest portions compared to the competition. We had to add BBQ sauce to the meat to have any flavor. The micro scoop of jalapeno corn bread was okay and the smallest helping of pickles didn't allow for us to form any opinions. Nice place but I will go elsewhere. Best BBQ in town. The dry rub on the ribs is so good you don't need sauce. The pulled pork was perfect. I preferred the pork to the beef and chicken. My favorite side is the baked beans. I enjoyed having beers at the next door REO Town Pub - after we ordered the brought it over to us and we ate at the pub. Only negatives are that it is expensive ( but worth it), the run out of certain foods sometimes, and it can get crowded at lunch. Highly recommend this place. read more

I would rate the food at the top of my list with some of the best BBQ I have had and I could eat BBQ everyday. I had the 1/3 rack of ribs, brisket with coleslaw. My wife had the ribs, pulled pork and coleslaw and our two boys had the chicken tacos and fries. The meat was smoked perfectly, and the 3 sauce options were fantastic. Both boys loved the fries and tacos. The spicy pickles and crumbled jalapeño corn bread were amazing. We'll be back very soon. read more

If you haven't been to REO Town - this is the reason to go. Vibe of place was a breath of fresh air. Inside has been completely redone with explosed brick, it is very clean and bright. Staff was very friendly and attentive. Had the pulled pork sandwich and a big pile of french fries which was outstanding. Sauces are made in house and were very flavorful without being heavy and thick. Highly recommend them and will be back soon. read more

If you love BBQ, this place is the place to check out! Great pulled pork, brisket and a host of other items! The Friday special Burnt Ends is my favorite! The staff is friendly and will remember your name and order if you go there enough! Cozy dining room with nice outside seating in the summer! Honestly... Probably the worst experience I've ever had. Overpriced, quantity of food was by far not worth $40 for 2 people. Best meal there was Mac and cheese and it was bland. Brisket was majority fat. Everything came in styrofoam containers. Potato salad was just redskins and mustard lmao literally just red skins, chopped in cubes, with mustard covering them.. Had high hopes. Pulled pork and the brisket were both dry. They're seasoned well but part of getting this right is the way they're cooked. Deviled eggs were okay but 5.50 for 2 eggs?? Can't say I was impressed and neither was my partner. read more
