    Driveway extension and basketball hoop.
    Roger H.

Upon moving into my newly constructed house in Redlands, I had a fairly large job for the right contractor: - Concrete driveway extension (~1,020 sf) - Concrete side and rear patio slab (~1,060 sf) - Solid Alumawood patio cover (44' x 14') with recessed lights - Lattice Alumawood patio cover (300 sf) with post lights. - 21' x 18' x 8' freestanding garage/workshop/accessory building with electricity I solicited a number of quotes and SAE Builders was not the cheapest, although they also weren't the most expensive. I found Scott to be down-to-earth, highly knowledgeable, and thorough. I felt confident that he would do a high-quality job and that I'd be getting good value for my money. Given the scale of the work and my detail-oriented nature, there were bound to be lots of questions from me. Scott was always extremely responsive, typically answering correspondences within minutes, and was always willing to take the time to explain things that I didn't understand or was uncertain about. He was also very accommodating in several design changes that I requested such as changing the workshop to a structural ridge beam design and replacing the simple roll-up door with a specialized garage door with a track that followed the slope of the roof. Did the job go perfectly? No, but most of that was due to the Redlands permitting office which works painfully slowly - it literally took over a year to get everything approved and permits secured. As for the things that Scott was responsible for, there were some cracks in the concrete that appeared shortly after it was poured, and the external paint of the workshop ended up not matching the color of the house as was desired (Scott definitely did try to match the colors, but I guess color matching is hard to do). Despite those issues, I am overall very satisfied with the work that SAE Builders has done and am rounding my review up to 5 stars. I would not hesitate to recommend Scott and, in fact, have already done so to one of my neighbors. If you want to save as much money as possible, SAE Builders might not be your best choice. However, if you want quality work done for a fair price, they definitely deserve to be on your shortlist.

This is a late post but last year SAE Builders transformed our backyard in ways we couldn't imagine. We knew we wanted a patio cover and Scott gave us a direction and walked us through each detail from design to options. He remained in constant contact and always let us know what the next step was. He planned for future additions if we decided to add things later on. He coordinated the concrete work and once it was dried had the patio cover up in a few days (which he did alone). He tested it for leaks and followed up with us later for assurance. His attention to detail, productivity, and communication leaves us highly satisfied with choosing him to work on our home. Thank you Scott. Highly recommend and would use again.

We're so lucky to have found Scott and his company that pride excellency, honesty, integrity, and professionalism in his work. Our family could not be any happier with the project (patio cover) results. You get all your money's worth. Thank you Scott for your excellent work. We really cannot thank you enough. More power and projects to come your way! Highly recommended for anyone looking for perfection!

Scott is hands down the best contractor I've ever worked with. He's personable, professional, punctual, and a total detail-oriented craftsman. He converted my downstairs laundry and guest room into an ADU and turned an upstairs guest room into a dream laundry room and office. It turned out amazing! As long as he's in business he's going to be doing all of my projects!

Scott is a professional perfectionist His work is outstanding ... He has done work for us and quite a few people we know. For example he just recently installed an Anderson arch Picture window in the front of our home . His work was clean and precise from start to finish . Also , When/if you ever see the outcome of some of his projects it's instantly tempting to have work done from him because of his creative designs!!!! Looking forward to more of his work around our home ... worth every penny !!

Scheduling maybe a bit long, but overall SAE builders Provided an excellent customer service. Thank you for your honesty and excellent work. Looking forward to getting another successful job in the near future! Way to go

SAE Builders did an outstanding job on our backyard Alumawood patio. Scott transformed our concrete slab area with a gazebo into a gorgeous covered outdoor dining and sitting area! Superb customer service and workmanship! You won't find another contractor who genuinely cares and doesn't cut corners!

5 stars for not returning calls. Seems my 31x12 patio cover and triple that in concrete is not a big enough job to return a call. Business must be good for you. Congrats.

SAE Builders installed this lattice/solid patio and fan. We were very happy with the finished product!!

SAE Builders were very professional and knowledgeable. Scott was helpful in going over the options available and gave great advice. He was able to quickly give us a quote and the price was competitive. Contractor arrived when they said they would and on time. They provided quality workmanship in a timely matter. Scott and his crew did a great job on the installation and my family will enjoy this for years.

We recently had our patio put in by SAE and we are completely satisfied with the results. We choose SAE because they were exemplary professionals. They provided proof of workers comp, licensing, and reponded quickly to provide an estimate. They submitted the plans to the city and had the patio signed off for us. I won't have to worry about resale issues. I appreciate working with people who take pride in doing things right.

Night view of our patio cover, equipped with ceiling fan lights and 3 electrical outlets throughout the posts.

Our experience with Scott and his crew was great! Scott was easy to reach via email and text and he answered all of our questions (and I had a lot!). He consulted us well on the design and dimensions of the patio cover, even down to the color, which we love. All the guys on his crew were very nice and professional. The total amount of time it took to build our patio cover was 3 days-- better than we expected. We now have a really awesome covered patio in our backyard that feels like two separate rooms. We had a bbq recently and everyone was amazed at how good it looked. I'm already passing out SAE's contact information. Thank you so much, Scott and Crew!

Finished Alumawood lattice patio cover. Love the partial sun / partial shade it provides.

Our home in Rancho Bernardo was in the path of the 2007 Witch Fire, and while we are grateful that our house did not burn down, there was a lot of work needed over the next 2 years. Better late than never, I am finally getting around to posting some reviews. We had an Alumawood lattice-type patio cover installed by SAE Builders and couldn't be more pleased. I got proposals from 5 different contractor, and SAE's bid price was very competitive, but what set them apart was that owner Scott Egbert was much more professional than the others. His business card says "Quality First" and he backed that up with an outstanding installation. I asked everybody the basic questions about contractor licenses, liability insurance, whether the company used subcontractors etc., and they passed this test. However, Scott from SAE scored the highest marks for being on time, explaining the options, being professional...and patiently answering my many questions. I didn't feel like I was being given a "sales job", as I had felt with several of the other bidders. Other bidders got low marks when I asked about allowable spans, and the size of concrete footings required under the posts. Several replied with answers like "We'll put in footers ABOUT x big", or "You can span ABOUT x feet." To me that was a big red flag, because I knew that the engineering specs are readily available, and anybody that is bidding patio cover work should be using them, as they are very specific about the exact sizes required for footings, and the allowable spans. Scott had a set of (stamped) engineering specs with him and was able to provide exact sizes of footings and allowable spans on the spot for the various configurations I was considering, always checking the specs. Since he was the last bidder I had scheduled, it was an easy choice to select SAE for the job on the spot. We had already installed a paver patio, and I was concerned about the possibility of damage to the pavers when removing them to dig and pour the footings, and whether it would look like a "patch job" when they were put back in place. Once they got started, Scott told me that it was one of the tightest paver installations they had ever worked on, but even faced with this challenge, they worked very carefully and did not break or chip a single paver while removing them. After the footings were poured they used the same care in putting the pavers back in place. When they got done, you literally could not tell that any pavers had even been touched, much less completely removed and replaced, and 7 years later they still look perfect, as shown in the attached photo. A few days later, the same crew, minus Scott, came to do the actual patio cover installation, and they made it look easy, a sure sign that they had done this many times. They finished up in a short day's work, and everything looked perfect. As they did on the first day, they completely cleaned everything up and took all the trash with them. It had gotten old, painting our old wood patio cover every few years, only to see it continue to warp, twist and rot, so we are very pleased that we switched to aluminum, and that hosing it down occasionally is the only "maintenance" required. The "dappled" shade that it provides is perfect for our inland valley location. Highest ratings for Scott Egbert and SAE Builders; easy to work with and a job done right, at a reasonable price, plus I have the peace of mind knowing that it was built to meet the engineering specifications.

The company stated that the waterproofing work was completed and documented. However, after that response was posted, new leaks continued to appear, including leaks in areas that had never leaked before. Additional damage occurred to my home, including hardwood flooring and interior finishes. The company also stated that it does not reinstall unsafe components. Yet I personally documented damaged and broken pillars being reused, and multiple workers told me they had objected to reusing them. Most importantly, the company has since involved its insurance carrier regarding the conditions and damages at my property. Their insurance consultant inspected my home on March 18, 2026. If the work was completed properly and there were no issues related to the project, I find it difficult to understand why an insurance claim was necessary in the first place. Since then, I have been repeatedly told to wait for the insurance process. Months have passed, no meaningful testing has been performed to determine the source of the continuing leaks, no repair plan has been provided, no leaking doors have been repaired or replaced, and the missing railings and pillars remain uninstalled. The most frustrating part is that my home is still left looking like an unfinished construction site while the company points to an ongoing insurance review as the reason for delay. I do not believe a homeowner should be expected to live with continuing damage and an incomplete project indefinitely while waiting for an insurance determination. I genuinely hoped this matter would be resolved after meetings with the company's ownership and licensing representative. Unfortunately, despite promises that things would move forward, very little has actually happened. I will continue to update this review as events unfold so that potential customers can make an informed decision.
