This company is a fraud. VT does not allow things attached to the wall electronically to be removed to sell the home. This company wants you to rip out the equipment and take it with you or pay $1100 or 90% of the unfulfilled contract. They came to the door and convinced my wife she needed a new contract, since they bought Modtronics and ADT. They verbally tell her you can transfer the contract when we move without cost. There is no license number listed for VT on the contract she signed, but there is for other states. They are a CT based company crossing state lines to unethically sell their service. This company swindles customers. Needed service. Technician unable to fix my problem. I signed the receipt for his service visit and it turns out it was an agreement for a 5 year service contract. Have tried to get out of it and been told I'll be taken to collection. I was 68 at the time, with mild cognitive impairment. Do you read the paper you sign when a technician comes out? I was broken into last night. My MOTION SENSOR was NOT working, and the THIEF WAS IN MY HOME, when I arrived. No alert was sent to the local police. I had to call 911. The panel in my home had been upgraded, but was not working (for some reason, we do not know). SHS solution, when I called today - upgrade!! Really?? I had a dozen cops, the K9 unit, and helicopters overhead...because my security system failed at the time I needed it most. They will not let me out of my contract or refund any premiums. read more

I was under contract for services to my home in Washington D.C. 20020. In June of 2021 I sold my home and move to Fort Washington, MD. 20744. I contacted SHS, told them that I was moving and would like the system moved to my new home. A date was scheduled for the Tech to come out and uninstall the system. The Tech never showed up. I called to set another appointment for the system to be moved and was told that they could not get a Tech out to me for several weeks. By the time the Tech could come out I had to be out of the home. One of the customer service reps, talked me through uninstalling the system and i brought it with me to my new home. No one ever came to install the system. I called several times. Notes were recorded and attached to my account. I called several times trying to get someone to come but no Tech ever came. I was leaving town and my daughters would be here with no security. I gave SHS one more chance to keep me as a customer. When they still did not come out, I contacted another company and had a system installed. SHS wants me to pay to get out of the contract when they were the ones who did not uphold their part of our agreement. How is that fair to me? For several months SHS has been charging me for services that they are not providing. I feel as though I'm being robbed. I could see if I were the reason or changed companies, but I did not. I gave them every opportunity to keep me as a customer. I would like to be reimbursed for the months SHS has charged for services not rendered. I paid December, 2017 as they requested pursuant to the contract and now they are billing me for monitoring service 1/15/18 to 4/15/18 plus Warranty 1/15/18 to 4/15/18 plus late charges. They emailed me and acknowledge receipt of my cancellation instructions on November 30, 2017 and by letter on December 5, 2017 yet they keep billing me for nothing. I would absolutely not recommend this company. All goes well until you need something repaired in order to get your system in working order. On two occasions I reported problems with the system, and ultimately had to leave my house not monitored on extended trips. If you are near the end of your contract they will not do the repair, but will gladly renew the contract to an upgraded system at a higher rate. The only way to get out of the contract is to pay it off in full. Even though you are disputing the service and working with an agent, the accounting department does not hesitate to report you to the credit bureaus which affect your credit, and this was after I paid in full and ended the contract. When we had a break-in, they canceled the police after my husband and I both -- and separately -- assured them that no one was home and requested that they send the police. Later (because we are slow learners), when we had a problem with the alarm, they said that it would be three weeks before someone could come on a service call. They only do service calls on one day of the week in my neighborhood, and it happens to be the most inconvenient day for our work schedules. So three weeks without an alarm and a day off work to fix it? Last straw. I'm changing to a company that will provide service. And, yes, they are making it very difficult to cancel. They will not accept a cancellation over the phone. It must be in writing, and the cancellation will not take effect for 30 days. I sent them a certified letter and it came back as "Not at this address" even though this was the address on the contract I have with them. They never notified me that they had moved. I have called them and sent them emails for several weeks now and they refuse to send me a cancellation confirmation in writing. WHY??? Do not do business with this company unless you intend to keep them for life. Horrible customer service. This company is a NIGHTMARE! They stole us away from ADT Security monitoring, promised to fix our alarm system, forced us to sign a contract and totally screwed us over! We never had a working alarm system and BEGGED them for a technician to come and fix the problem. We only had false alarms (which were going to start costing us each time the police or Fire Department showed up) and we could not use the system because of that! We finally got a visit from a technician that was located 2 hours from our home. He arrived, pressed a few buttons, changed a few batteries and proclaimed the problem to be fixed........NOT! About 3 days after the service call, we experienced yet ANOTHER false alarm and were forced to discontinue using our alarm system once again! To get these a-holes out of our life (after they had the nerve to report us to the credit bureaus....) they EXTORTED $625 from us to settle the matter....We will be seeing them in small claims court in the very near future!! They will not fix it and give me the run around with numerous people in their company who all promise to fix it. I had it when I received a call from a man named Justin telling me that everyone I had spoken to previously (including him) was not authorized to make any deals or issue me my new contract (discounted rates and free months to help out). No complaints with the technical service -- it is polite and professional. My problem is that I have been trying for more than a year to have my contract not renewed. The alarm goes off when the wind blows, and when I leave the dog at home. Have left messages and written letters to no avail. The customer service people are unpleasant and aggressive in finding you if you miss a payment, but when it comes to letting you out of a contract that you do not want to renew, good luck finding someone to answer the phone or respond to an email. Company will not provide us with a signed original contract probably because they do not have one. They claim to have bought my contract from a previous company and still charge for a 5 year contract that you just can't cancel no matter what you try. They said only collections can cancel the contract and they are full of SH!T, how many bills will you send on a cancelled account from a company that is no longer in business? This is borderline harrassment and unecessary aggravation. We have received free copies of our credit report and are contesting this company through equifax for free. Incredible incompetence! From day one Ive had nothing but issues without resolutions from SHS. They locked me in to a 3 year contract then became worthless almost immediately. ABSOLUTE WORST COMPANY EVER. There is a defect in our alarm system in which the motion detector goes off for no reason. It has been going on for the past 3 months and they refuse to fix it. The alarm has gone off at least 20 times in the middle of the night for no reason. Now the police department is billing us! On top of that, a worker who came in months ago before this problem was extremely racist. He told my father that he doesn't belong in this country and to go back where he came from. My 5 year contract ended in March 2012 but when I sent my notice of termination I was told that I need to have given 60 days notice so I now I've been rolled over into another year of terrible service with SHS and must give 60 days notice next year or... guess what? Examples of bad service: too long to list but briefly, multiple days waiting at home for them to arrive and either they never showed up or showed up late. When they did show, they did shoddy work.
