For someone who did not know much about storage units, Maria and Sal made this such an easy process I only needed a storage unit for a short time in between apartment moves, and Lock Up storage were so accommodating. The truck that they offer with the unit was the perfect size to move me out of my studio apartment. When the time came for my movers to pick up my belongings from the storage unit, Maria made sure it was easy for them too. I can only speak about THE LOCK IT UP SELF STORAGE at KINZIE in Chicago, but mine has been a stellar experience. it began five years' ago when my art studio was closed for renovation. I needed a place to store my precious artwork and fast. a tour of the place and the warm customer experience convinced me that it was a clean, well managed and secure place. my recent move to a larger storage unit was handled with the same personal attention. Sal and Maria were the best! They were both VERY helpful! Highly recommend! Will use this Lock-Up Storage facility in the future, if I ever need to rent a storage unit again. Only problem we had (NOT W/THE FACILITY) was trying to get there in time before they closed one evening. Got blocked by a couple hundred cyclists participating in the annual World Naked Bike Ride on our way to unload boxes. Made it there and unloaded within minutes of when the alarms were going to go off. Was an interesting evening, to say the least. read more

There are a lot of storage facilities out there but The Lockup on Kinzie (River North) is fantastic! Chris, John and Maria are all fantastic. The lockers are large with high ceilings and the hallways are spotless. Nice lighting, FREE parking and an overall great experience. Prices are very reasonable and $20 for a 3 hour truck was amazing and so helpful. The process from reserving online, confirming on the phone and signing up in person was quick and easy. I've used storage facilities a couple of times for short-term storage between moves, and they can be dreary. The Lock Up in River North is a very nice surprise! It's really hard to rave about a place that you're paying over $100 a month to store a bunch of stuff that you give out for free anyways, but I gotta say this place has some pretty nice attributes. They keep a spare lock for your unit in their office, which you can authorize anyone to use, there's a convenient loading dock and several dollies that all tenants have access to, and the guys who work the front desk know their fantasy football. As far as I'm concerned it's really all you could ask a storage center to be. read more

Really not much to say about this place besides that it's your typical storage unit. They make it pretty easy to sign up, although I had this dreadful woman in front of me the day I signed up. You know the type...she had 5 million questions about the 1 little storage space she was renting. Ugh. Anyway, I waited about 30 minutes for her to ask all her questions and then they finally moved on to me...and I was signed up and ready to store within 3 minutes. Prices are reasonable (I pay $145 a month right now, but I've been storing pretty much all my furniture) and it's easy to access anytime you want. So yeah, this review isn't too exciting, but then again we're talking about a storage unit. read more

The Lockup on Kinzie? Man, I can not say enough about the team there! They have been extremely helpful and courteous while my family has been transitioning back from Chicago. They shared with me all rental options, so I could make the best decision for my belongings. They were invaluable in assisting me with the move-in. And, they are always prompt with returning my call or email. The place is clean and tidy. They have dolly-beds that can be used inside to move belongings in or out of the building. Free coffee. Didn't end up reserving here but had a bad customer experience that led us to a different place. Online, the rate for a 5x5 interior unit was $25 plus the second month free. We get there and only then will they tell us that the $25 a month is only for three months, then it jumps up to an undisclosed amount of money. Nowhere on the website does it say the $25 a month is a limited time deal, it is simply listed as the "online" price. When trying to figure out how much the months would cost after the $25, she said she couldn't tell us because she "couldn't see that far out." I called their customer service line and he told me it's actually only $25 for the first month and after that it would cost $99. Look, I have no idea who runs this business, but clearly they don't know what they are doing. They have false advertising for prices and don't give their salespeople the tools to succeed. Also, beware of any unit that says sky box, you have to climb a rickety ladder with your boxes in order to access the unit. I have no idea how that is legal, it's an accident waiting to happen. Reading the reviews below, it seems as if quite a few of the reviews are fake. They're written by people with 1 to 3 reviews and they all have the same "voice." Beware! read more

Our company uses the lock up the self storage in River North. We really enjoy our professional relationship with both the manager and his entire team. John and Armando are extremely easy to work with responsive to any inquiries and professional with all correspondence on a consistent basis. The hours of the operation are extremely convenient for our business with the addition of having access to our locker after business hours using the touchpad code as well as the weekend hours for any emergency needs which of course come up in our type of business. We definitely believe that this is a great location if you need a centrally located city storage for either personal or business, like it is in our case, as the operation is close in proximity to River North the loop and easy access up to the Milwaukee Ave., Corridor. So I had to put my furniture in storage for a few months at the Lock Up and they made it sound so easy when I first moved in and everything was taken care of but then it just got more and more difficult. The facility itself is clean and it definitely served it's purpose- with a climate controlled unit which was nice, but the girl behind the counter- she is so rude. I had the montly renewal put on my credit card, and then I got a nasty notice after the first month that I haven't paid and they will lock up my unit so I can't get in. So I called and the girl at the front desk was so rude and then finally said "Oh yeah, it's all good". So then when I go to the locker, they put a lock on it so I couldn't get in. Then when I had to get the girl up there to un-lock it she was so rude. She's just awful. Anyway- the place itself is fine, but the service stinks. read more

Clean, air conditioned, reasonably priced and friendly staff. Coming from Phoenix, I'm used to offsite storage facilities operated by sketchy vagrants who almost hope you don't pay your bill so they can break in and auction off your stuff. I lost my credit card that was attached to my account and forgot it was set to auto deduct my monthly payment and my unit went into default. The staff was very helpful in getting this sorted out so I could keep my stuff and switch my payment method. Every time I'm there to get into my unit the staff offers to help me with the ladder (I picked a stackable unit) which isn't necessary but its a nice touch! Maybe they can tell I'm a klutz and they don't want me to get hurt! I've also never had a problem getting in after hours and the place feels really secure. read more

I totally want to disagree with the young woman's negative comment, I had storage there few years ago and was totally satisfied with the customer service and the facility itself. I decided to recommend a friend and she was amazed, all her questions were answered thoroughly and accurate, the young lady at the counter went above and beyond her ways and made sure she got the best deal around. I moved back from Cleveland about a month ago but before doing so, knew I had to put the majority of my crap in storage. In Chicago, in one of the most expensive cities in the country. Let the games begin. I bounced around online attempting to find the cheapest option which I could get to via public transit and that the moving into and out of wouldn't be a total nightmare. Imagine my surprise when Lock Up, which is across the street from the Merchandise Mart, came in the cheapest of any local option! I put in my request for something called the "Skybox" which was only $50 a month and my preferred size, hit 'send' then about 10 minutes later my phone rang. The kind woman on the other end asked if I fully understood what a Skybox is and then encouraged me to pay a visit to them when I was in town next (about a week later) to make sure it was the right fit. Hmm... Sure enough, it's some wacky setup that requires a rolling stepladder, some serious arm and leg muscles knowledge of geometry and willing helpers to move things into a space 10' off the ground. She told me she thought she had a better solution and took me one aisle over to a similarly-sized space that had a built-in staircase of only five or six steps up to the row of roll up doors with my unit only three feet up off the ground . Sold. Still cheap ($65/mo for a 5'x10'x7'). , Moving in is a snap thanks to their loading dock and sliding doors, the climate control means I never have to worry about my stuff, it's always so clean and pleasant with piped-in music, and they supply their own locks so I wasn't caught off guard. Sign up is quick, you make your own PIN to get in and out of the secure building, due dates include a five day grace period, the price is right and they often run One Month Free specials. If I or you ever need a storage spot, this is The One. read more

So I've moved a lot. Like, LOTS. This place is, hands down, the best storage place I've used in either the city or suburbs. Clean? Like so clean you can't believe it didnt just open. Access is super easy. ALWAYS plenty of carts. I mean, there has to be 12 of them. All in a line, ready to roll. The two employees I've dealt with (forget there names, but a man and a woman) are friendly. I mean, like they care about there jobs. A lot. Imagine that? First of all, John was at the counter on the day I put everything I own in the world into a storage locker, and on the day that I took it all out and moved it into my new condo, and he is not only hilarious but also really easy to work with. He set me up with a first-floor unit and explained how I could access my locker anytime 24/7 using a specific code. The facility is immaculate, all very clean with carpeted floors and air-conditioning throughout. It's basically all you could ever ask for in a storage facility. I'd definitely use them again if I had the need for a storage unit. read more
