If I could give them 0 stars I would. First of all they're not open 24/7. Secondly, I just walked in to get some diapers. I put two packages in my cart, but then changed my mind when I saw the lines were ridiculously long and they had nothing else I needed. So I put the diapers back EXACTLY where I got them. When I walked out I noticed a staff member giving me a dirty look but didn't think anything of it. When I got to my car my husband pointed out that he had followed me and was taking pictures of me and my car! This store is getting ridiculous. As a customer, I do not get paid to follow directions from staff members. I come there to shop, mind my business, get what I need, and leave. You all are delusional to think that every single customer must stop and pay for anything that you have deemed to be important or high theft from the area with the separate register. Yes, most of us know this store has high theft, but you can not just assume that everyone has the intention of stealing when they need an item from this area. If I only have a few items and there's no line, I absolutely will pay there because it is convenient for ME. I also try to get any items I need from the area last. But no, I will not stop and wait in the line to pay for a bottle of mouthwash or let Maxi hold on to it, as she likes to ask while I finish shopping. Safeway is great, but if you need help st thr meat counter, you have a better chance of getting struck by lightning. I've never seen so many examples of "not my job." There are people cooking but literally no one working the deli no matter how much eye contact you make. Maybe I'm here at the wrong hours? I dunno. I've met police officers more accommodating. I gave my daughter a baby shower 10/16 ordered cake 10/09 had friend pick up cake and let me tell you not only the cake wasn't made right but is was leaning I called and spoke with bakery manager he of course wasn't apologetic and only offered me a refund and to bring cake back really ??? Literally twenty people in line with carts and only two registers open with no sign of movement at all, ironically as the store add played about how important customers were to them blah blah blah and how if more than 3 customers are in line they'll open another stand. I left my items with the other abandoned stuff and left to go to WinCo. Safeway has really taken a bad turn lately and especially with this store. Management should be ashamed. When I used to work in Brentwood, I would take the back road to this Safeway and go grocery shopping before I hit the freeway. Then they opened the gas station and it was a constant stop and still to this day if I'm making sales calls in my territory I always get gas here. We stopped by after my Dr.s appointment and the gas was $2.88 a gallon. If you used your Safeway card that is. Everywhere else was cresting on $4 a gallon. As to the grocery store, its nice. Its bigger than my local store and might have a few more items that Martinez doesn't. I like the store and customer service is nice. Most Safeways do have decent service though. If you stop here for anything, its the gas. Don't drive in the wrong way though. You'll get confused if you do and have to drive around in circles to get back in to the gas line. read more

Not really much you can say about a Safeway. Though this has been my go-to store ever sine I was 4 years old. Heck, I was around when this Safeway first opened! Let me tell you, it has come a long way. Their major remodel has upped the place ten-fold. Came here today to pick up stuff for my Mexican burrito feast and a loaf of french bread for my dad. I pretty much know where everything is, except for the taco seasoning. I stared at the Hispanic foods aisle for 10 minutes...wtf. I asked the worker who passed me, and she pointed to the shelf right behind me. Da da duh moment. If you love to coupon clip, Safeway's paper comes out every Tuesday in the Contra Costa Times. Sandwiches are pretty good. Look out for $3.99 sandwich coupon in the paper. This Safeway also has a Starbucks, so you can get your overpriced coffee on while grocery shopping. read more

They are a ripoff on gas prices. As of June 6th 2015 they sell gas at $3.35 a gallon in Antioch while in neighboring cities like Pleasant Hill $3.15 gallon Tracy $3.15 a gallon Sacramento $3.07 a gallon San Jose $3.09 a gallon Vallejo $3.17 a gallon Antioch $$3.35 a gallon Costco is $3.12 a gallon. I quit shopping at Safeway in protest a long time ago. I shop at Costco because that's the cheapest gas in Antioch so if I get my gas there then I buy groceries there. What pisses me off is they sell gas very cheap in Pleasant Hill and raise gas prices in Antioch to make up for lowering Gas prices there. Words are used to describe virtually everything we encounter in the known universe. But here is where you will find that truth to be tested, for there are no words to describe how unpleasant, pitiful, worthless, and loathsome the staff members are at this establishment. There has never been a time when I've gone to this Safeway and not spent less than 15 minutes waiting in line at the register. The idea that I can just run in to grab something has become an erroneous assumption. What is baffling to me is that management, by now, must have decent metrics on high volume periods and customer wave trends to staff the registers accordingly. But that may be asking for a far higher intellect than actually possessed from these ignorant blunders. The lines typically grow into what look more like what you might see on highway 4 or the MacArthur Maze: a warren of twists and turns clogging the aisle ways and disrupting other shoppers' line of travel. Not such a safe way if you ask me. The staff at the registers are incapable of dealing with anything outside there immediate peripherals, which means they are too inept to make any efforts in mitigating the crowded aisles. And so, they each stand at the register, cock-eyed and drooling out the side of their heads like some enigmatic derelict on the verge of ceasing to exist... another managerial oversight and failure in the hiring process. The bakery department seems to employ those of the worst fabric of society in terms of skill set and basic knowledge. Incommunicable grunts and excuses flooded the air during one particular time we picked up a cake we ordered from these oafs, only to find they had constructed the wrong cake. The cake was ordered four days prior and upon pick up, it was a completely different theme. Even after showing the order receipt, it still didn't seem to compute in this pea-brain's head that she made the wrong cake. When someone of even the least intelligence did recognize the mistake, attempts to correct the theme was lazy and effortless resulting in a finished product that was lopsided and generic. What is more, in the very same line was another woman who's cake order had been completely botched up. She was literally missing her daughter's birthday party. The pharmacist at the back is a great example of someone educated beyond their intelligence. On more than one occasion, I've walked up to the register to purchase OTC's and the reply has been relatively consistent, "Uh, oh no, I don't have time for this. Please go to register in front..." If I didn't find the interaction so humorous each time, I would have started to take my drugs up front long ago. There is an overarching theme to this store's staff and management and it appears to be a lack of basic intelligence that would allow anyone to appropriately function in the work force. There is a reason the bank located in the store has been robbed at gun point so many times over the past 25 years: those working for the store are about half as smart as the dimwits committing armed robbery. Management's solution to the robberies has been to hire security guards who can barely waddle their way to and from each entry and who's backs would break if they picked up a grocery bag the wrong way. Only about a year ago did the bank install ballistic glass at the tellers. In summation, this is an awful place. Save yourself the frustration and run. Run from this place as far as the east is from the west. I wouldn't even purchase a mother's day card from this store if it were the only place open on mother's day. I'd have better luck at a children's crafting fair in a New York subway. read more

The staff was great. I had only been in this Safeway once before so in asking one of clerks where I might find soda I instantly received that helpful answer. That's all I needed which leads me to why only two stars. I just don't like the way they do their pricing so hence 2 stars. $1.79 for the 2 liter 7up is an example. However I do pretty much generally know at this point what they charge for this or that but I still don't like it. I could have bought four for a nicely discounted price but at the rate soda is consumed in my home, slow, it would be flat by the time that it was used. Also, I could have picked up one of the off brand similar sodas but I had a request in for 7up and I wasn't going to let anyone down. I too tried the Star Bucks as another shopper had mentioned but that was from a 2009 review. Luisa who took my order was very friendly which made the visit to the coffee booth a good one. I stopped shopping here years ago when I realized that Winco was a lot cheaper than Safeway. But recently I came in here twice, once for floral service and once for a deli purchase. I received very good service in floral. The lady offered to box my floral purchase which I appreciated because it came out very nice. My deli trip was good as well. I tried the Chinese food for lunch. I think this place is new because the food looked different, more appetizing. I must admit it wasn't bad and Safeway still has a pretty descent deli. First of all the prices have suddenly gotten higher. A lot higher. They have started this Just 4 U thing where you are supposed to save 10-20% more through e-mailed offers and, I suppose, they had to raise their prices to give the illusion of actual savings. I detest poring through sales circulars and coupons. I expect to be able to go into a store and get their best prices without jumping through hoops. hen there was the day that I bought Canadian bacon and did not notice that it was more than two weeks past the sell by date. I brought it back and went to get a fresher item but they were all beyond the sell by date. Out of curiosity I checked the sell by date on other, random, cold cuts and more than half were beyond it. Price is better than Raley's on a lot of items but they are still higher than other spots in town. Staff is generally friendly although often ignorant on the items in the store. I prefer smaller stores where you can walk in and ask a question and they have more than a blank stare as the response. The one other perk here is the wide selection of O organic items. The price point on these items is comparable to other markets. Facility wise they remodeled this store a few years back but did a terrible job on lighting. Like most Safeways, the place is clean, the check out lines move pretty quickly and I have found the service to be ok. On average you can find someone to ask a question but not always get a straight answer. The meat/seafood area leaves ALOT to be desired and the deli section food does not look fresh when I go looking in the afternoon so I usually pass it up. I haven't tried their sandwiches yet so I cann't say anthing there... Wells Fargo ATM's in side and they have a nice flower selection. read more

The sandwich line was super busy and in high demand for their delicious sandwiches. Someone should open a sandwich shop in the Deer Valley Square shopping center across the street and give these great people some competition. Love the Starbucks but wouldn't mind a Starbucks store nearby too. This location is super close to everything. Worst Safeway ever. You need a new night shift manager. I come in at 1240am and then 5 minutes later they call on the intercom that they're closing in 5 minutes which would only be 12:50am. I don't really think nothing but sure wish I had. I go step into the bathroom and come out about 12:57am and start heading to the front counter to get rung up. As I'm walking down the aisle the security guard was asking me what I was doing here? I said what does it look like? I'm shopping and going up to the front to pay. Then he says oh I don't think there's anyone at the front because theres no one else in the store. Long story short I get into an altercation with the rude brown manager with a beard with glasses who told security to throw me out of "store". He ain't nothing more than a union worker. I walk in at 12:40am, go to registers at 12:57am and get kicked out without my groceries. This safeway is awful. The parking lot always has garbage everywhere. A lot of the employees seem to be in awful moods. The clientele in this store is "rough". There are always people stealing. Literally they fill their carts and walk out the door. I went in once for a couple of items. They had no hand baskets. I was told by a clerk that people fill them and walk out of the store with those also. Last night after work, my daughter wanted to go pick up her order that she had placed online. She got the text it was ready. We went, parked in #5 parking space, called and told a person that we were there. Twenty three minutes later I went into the store to get our order. There was no one in the order on line area. I had them paged. Our order slip was just sitting on the counter in an empty area. We are so done with this store. They suck.
