Let's be honest. Winco is a discount grocery store and their selection isn't the best, but they have the staples at reasonable prices, for the most part. When they aren't completely sold out, of course. That being said, I have never, and I mean *never* shopped at Winco and not stood in line for a bare minimum of 20 minutes. It's so common, that I no longer buy frozen foods because I know they'll melt before I get to the register. I've already been standing in line 15 minutes, and this is where I am. Winco is a great option if you are looking for someplace that has lower prices. They are also open 24 hours. For these two reasons I do enjoy grocery shopping there. The manager included her name is Lupe tried to come purchase chicken for the homeless at 8 AM in the morning giving them time that I can pick it up for 1:00 PM and first they try to give me a lie saying that it takes 24 hours to 48 hours for those type of orders when two weeks ago I came in and did it same day and got it within an hour or two later it really depends who is in there on whether you're getting good customer service or not I recommend highly going to food cold or another store for your hot foodco read more

A great place to get all your groceries. We decided to do our groceries here on our way to home and were amazed at the variety. They got good deals and produce is really fresh. We loved their pre-packaged salad selections. They have lots of options in almost every department be it fruits, vegetables, dairy, packaged foods and even specialty foods. Their staff is really hardworking as they moved the lines quickly and almost everyone had their carts full. They even had a nice pizza place to get some pizza. Options were decent like vegetable pizza, cheese one and other meat options. They had garlic bread too, which I liked. There are 2 seats inside the store to maybe sit and eat. Parking was plenty but it was very busy near the store so parking a little away from the store worked out well for us. read more

WinCo Foods - Long unnecessary lines - Grocery Near Me - Pittsburg, California

The management there are terrible and lack the ability to de-escalate anything. Today, I was in line for 10 minutes and watched the female manager exchange words with an older white male at least 65 - 75 yrs old who was frustrated with the customer service area. Instead of de-escalation and simply hearing him out she was aggressive dismissive making a seen to display what she obviously feels is power degrading him and insulting him. Then I watch her walk over to a line and loudly address a man and his son about a dog. He became defensive clearly because of her loud and obnoxious aggression. And, there was two other dogs as he said that weren't addressed. This is not the first time. A month prior I watched a cashier inject herself into to women's argument and she had to be removed and held back while the male manager did nothing to de-escalate. I'm positive customers are difficult but, a manager should be the answer with expectations of difficult customers. So, they must a resourceful solution with the ability to defuse what can turn into physical confrontation. The all deficient of professional communication. read more

I wish there were a "0" rating option. Pittsburg Winco Foods is an unsafe environment. Recently, I had an altercation with a fellow patron who, first, inaccurately accused me of trying to "cut in front" of him in the Express Lane, though it was obvious he had way too many items to be in the Express Lane in the first place (more like 30 items). At the time, I wasn't even in line. Instead, I was standing between the two roped off Express Lanes, trying to determine which line was shorter. After being accused of trying to cut in line, I explained that I wasn't trying to figure out the better line to get into, and then made the mistake of adding that he should not be in the Express Lane anyhow, given the number of items in his basket. Infuriated, he felt the need to assert himself, stepped so close to me that I could feel his breath on my face, and shouted "I am not the one!' Realizing that we were not fifth graders in the lunch line, I just backed away and got in another line. This experience has made Winco Foods a very unsafe environment for me. I may not return unless things change. Not only does the lack of responsiveness on the part of staff and management - everyone could hear and see what was going on, yet no one paged a manager or security. Winco Foods, I strongly encourage you to get rid of the Express Lanes. Instead it would be safer, albeit extremely inconvenient, to have everyone deal with having to stand in long lines, even with only having a few items. Ultimately that will be better and safer, both for your customers and employees. Just food for thought. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As a result of this situation, I now go to the Winco Foods in Brentwood. This store is the best! Their prices are better than any of the other grocery stores for most items. They have a better selection than Food Maxx, and their prices beat out Safeway, Lucky's, and Food Maxx by a LOT! Even with today's gas prices, it is worth the drive from Concord to Pittsburg for the amount of money I save on groceries. After horrendous experiences from FoodMaxx, we decided to check out WinCo. I haven't been to a WinCo in AGES, so I was not sure what I was expecting. The good thing is that WinCo did save me some money, especially in this economy. The prices were decent, the selection was good, and they have things I can usually never find at other places (i.e. Garbanzo Beans, Broccoli Sprouts, Cucumber/Mint Juice, etc.) The downside is that they don't accept Credit. They accept Debit and/or cash only, and that can be a disadvantage for those who don't pay using a Debit card. And if you're thinking about using Apple Pay, you might wanna put it away as they don't accept that either (Uh WinCo, you're not Walmart). Also, the pizza they have there is okay at best. I come here because their fruit is excellent. That's the one really great thing about this place. The bad is that it's in Pittsburg, which means it's run by someone who doesn't give two sh!ts about customer service. There are ALWAYS long lines. Doesn't matter what time the day. They won't open more lines. They just let the two lines get longer. Luckily this place has a self serve which is great but for some reason, most people here won't use it. I guess they don't understand how it works. I will say that I constantly see people use the self serve and not pay for all the stuff in their carts and the employee working the self serve never does anything but go there and watch - they put stuff in the lower level of their cart and never pay for it and no one does anything. All the time. So yeah, you get the usual Pittsburg dreck in this place. People who block aisles, put their cart in the check out aisle and then go shop some more or my favorite, stand in the exit way and text while other people are trying to exit the store. I swear, every time I come here, some idiot stops in the exit, literally right where the doors are and starts texting or talking on the phone, blocking everyone from getting out. I will never understand this. I do understand that people in Pittsburg have no manners. It's just a given. Go walk down the front of teh store and watch people checking out - you will NEVER see a single person put the divider on the counter. Not one. They have good prices in this store, so if you're willing to stand in line or deal with the rude people who frequent this store, it's okay. And like every other store in Pittsburg, you have your choice of loud rap music all over the parking lot. The other great thing is if you like tamales, you have your choice of guys selling them in the parking lot. You know, if you prefer to buy your food from a guy who looks like he just got done working on his transmission. I always prefer my tamales approved by the Parking Lot Food Council (PLFC). I usually don't write reviews for grocery stores, but I feel obligated and inclined to do so because I have never felt so unwelcome. At a grocery store! I only come here when we are in the area because I love the variety and prices. I usually spend over $100 when I go there because I stock up. This day was an extremely busy Sunday and everyone had full carts. I am usually greeted at the register, but nope, so I said hi and got a very lame "hey" back. Fine. This cashier (the name said Dollyanna on the receipt, but I don't know if that was her real name) was so mad at the world. She was literally tossing all my groceries across the belt and even the glass containers until she almost broke it and I had to give her the annoyed, "woah!" Then she was trying to go so fast that she missed a scan and my husband was controlling the belt and packing groceries, and she gives him a dirty look because SHE didn't do her job right! My polite husband said sorry (which she should have said instead) and then I had to grab the item for her to rescan. It's a shame people like this work in customer service. If you don't like dealing with people, don't do it as a profession. What a horrible experience. I'm glad this isn't my primary grocery store. read more

It's true that Winco has some good deals, despite the distinct lack of choices in organics, so 2 stars for that. One more star for their stellar bulk section, despite the lack of organics. However, when it comes to customer service... it's a big 0. I tried to do a return, after calling to ask what time customer service closed. They told me 9pm, but sometimes earlier if a cashier was needed. When I arrived at at 6:30pm however, customer service was already closed. So I asked the manager if she could open. "No, I'm going on my lunch and the cashier who works it is busy," she responded. When I asked if customer service regularly closes during the day and there was no real way to know if it would be open for returns, she literally responded: "Well, it's always open, but sometimes it closes if we need a cashier". And then she agreed with me that it was random when it was open or not. Always open but sometimes closes. Randomly. Incredible! read more

I don't live near any WinCo stores, so when I get the opportunity to shop there I tend to stock up. Luckily this one isn't too far from work, so I stop in occasionally. This is what I tend to buy: *Spices/Bulk Foods: You save a ton of money by buying certain items in bulk and using your own storage containers. I load up on smaller quantities of spices that are rarely used and love the grains, couscous and black rice. *Bakery: They have a bakery with fresh bread, cookies and bagels. The bagels are delicious and only $.50 each, my favorite is the cheese and jalapeno - they stay fresh for awhile too. *Meat Department: This is a great place to buy bigger portions for BBQ's, great deals on Tri-Tip, Sausages and Ribs. You can also save money on smoking chips which are about 1/2 the price of what I was paying. *Household items are much less than Safeway, but a little more than Costco. Laundry Detergent, Fire logs, toilet paper and such are name-brand prices at less than 1/2 at most stores. Also, I love that they also have organic and healthy food items. I buy my GTS kombucha here now, along with juice, veggies, fruit and other healthy products. Just because they are a low-cost store doesn't mean that the quality of food is different. Plan and simple, I love saving money at WinCo and that's why I shop there. read more

I just found out that they're closing the self-checkout stands. While I'm fundamentally in favor of checkers versus do-it-yourself, they bettered well open a quick check line for 15 items or less.
