Terrible service and attitude. I had a full cart not one checker was in the booth and I had to go up and ask somebody are there any checkers available? The lady said hold on and I'll find one and five minutes later somebody showed up unacceptable then the guy with the goatee was very rude not warm at all very direct and this is not the first time I've run into unhappy employees in the Safeway. There's terrible terrible service here they need to hire more help and this is not the first time that I brought this up to management here. read more

I have had some trouble in the past with getting cakes on the day it was due. Today I received the absolute best service from Morgan ( Manager) and Leslie. They made sure that I received the best customer service. They went above and beyond amade me a cake in 15 minutes, more things that made the cake pop. I give all these girls a high five for working through tough times and coming together to figure out the best solution for their clients. THANK YOU! read more

Safeway needs to give customers service training to their employee Kyle (with long red hair) in the drive up and go. First of all, he almost hit me with his push cart and didn't say excuse me. Second, I was having a hard time looking for the watermelon and asked him where it was. And he gave me a disgusted look and commented under his breath,"figures". And pointed to the them in the front. Im assuming his comment was because I am black and I feel he was stereotyping me as if all blacks eat watermelon. I was so embarrassed, I never got the watermelon and I left. I came back a week later to buy some food in the deli as I didn't have time to cook. I got a bucket of fried chicken and some sides and as I was waiting in line at the deli, I saw that same employee, Kyle standing next to me as he was waiting for something in deli as well. ( may have been on his lunch break). And all I can see is him looking at me and looking in my cart with the fried chicken as I waited for my side salads. I saw him laughing and shaking his head. Again I feel like he was laughing at me because a black woman is buying fried chicken, such a terrible stereotype. I felt so uncomfortable that I will never come back while he is still employed there. It being 2025, When I come to an establishment, I would hope that I would not be discriminated by racists employees. read more

Sam the cashier is the best, my partner and I will literally wait in line longer just to go to him, we love him and enjoy his great costumer service, friendly attitude, and amazing personality. We go to this Safeway specifically to see Sam and don't go elsewhere because he works here and we enjoy seeing him, give this man a raise! He is so kind and makes everytime we visit a happy one. Both stores in Coos Bay and North Bend don't seem to care about produce. Yesterday was the last straw. Rotted and moldy tomatoes, empty shelves, no organic lettuce, shriveled mangos, rotting radishes, old scallions and cucumbers - for heaven's sake you guys charge top prices for frankly stuff ready for the pigs. I just don't get it. Also, employees at the Johnson Ave store regularly park old red pickup and cars in the best spots near the entrance. I have a back condition that makes it hard to walk, but by all means take those spots. The worst is the lack - no fresh berries, fruit. I spend a lot at both stores - well I used to. This Safeway is honestly the worst I've been to. Their employees (ESPECIALLY IN PHARMACY DEPT) are rude, and slow. I constantly am picking up prescriptions from them since they are the closest to my house and every time the wait is about 20-30 minutes and the pharmacy techs are incompetent, inconsiderate, and every one of them acts like they hate their job and don't want to be there. read more

I am not impressed with the Cashier named Destiny! No smile, over loaded my grocery bag which would not normally bother me but, I am handicapped! I use a walking stick always since I hate walkers! Anyway it was all I could do to put my groceries into my vehicle! She did not offer any help at all except to frown when she put the one bag into my cart! I love the staff here. Everyone is very polite, and they treat my son & I very well. This location has been my go-to since moving to the area. The pharmacy staff is fast and knowledgeable, and their is also a Starbucks inside. read more

I appreciate the prompt response from Dawn. However, as I made abundantly clear to whoever the customer service people I dealt with at Safeway over the problems I had when shopping at this store, I needed THEM to contact you. If they failed to do so, there is another problem with Safeway/Albertsons. I will not delve into this any longer. I will simply take my business elsewhere. I have given Safeway more than enough chances to step up and make it right. At this point, I am simply trying to forewarn potential customers of the NUMEROUS problems I have had in 2022. I'm tired if not being able to find what I need because someone decided to change all the products around for no reason .... employees even comment when you ask where they moved things .. very disappointed... I also noticed that name brand products are being put to the back of the shelf or top shelf and signature brand, which is Safeway brand, is being put front and center. I come here a lot with friends but when you see fecal matter on the larger women's bathroom stall seat you get a little unnerved by it. Then when you tell customer service as it is a biohazard and they act completely disinterested and that you are annoying them. Incredible. read more

This place is going downhill. I just HATE that! I've been a Safeway fan most of my grocery-buying life, and locally, it's convenient and used to have the best produce without driving to Coquille Valley Produce. Even that seems to have changed. I did complain on our last visit. It was late on a Friday evening (no excuse to have wilted, dead, useless produce mixed in with the semi-fresh stuff). It's bad enough to have to watch your step in the produce section due to the crap all over the floor. Not literal crap, but you know... produce here and there, squished, scattered and unattended. No real excuse. Catering an event, I needed LOTS of fresh fruit and veggies. And I bought LOTS of fruit and veggies but unfortunately they were NOT the quality I have previously known Safeway to display. Then came the second checker (another one has always had this horrid habit) quite literally THROWING my over-priced produce into bags. I mentioned he was damaging my "gold" before it was even paid for, and complained about the condition of the department. His response was "Oh". He pointed to the guy in the next register and suggested I tell it to someone else. So I did. The manager took a quick walk through the produce section and came out shaking his head as if I was crazy. That's okay. This crazy lady came home with over 150 dollars worth of less-than-great produce and... you got it! The recycled, overstuffed bags broke before we could get them in the house. Cutting corners to save money is one thing in business. Flimsy bags, unconcerned checkers, and a downgrade in the wonderful produce section we all used to love... those are a whole "other" deal in business. Fred Meyer grocery is only a right turn instead of a left. You'll see me shopping... across the street! Can't afford Safeway's attitude any longer. If they don't care about my groceries, I don't care about keeping them employed. Pretty simple equation. Too many chances for one operation. read more

both the coos bay and north bend stores need to run their employees thru a customer service refresher. It seems they are trying to force customers to use self check out by making sure there is only one cashier working with no help while other employees stand around or wander the aisles aimlessly. I have been shopping at various branches for more than 30 years but once the merger with Albertsons happened customer service has gone down hill and personally I'm sick of it. read more

Once our Coos Bay Safeway had awesome customer service, but our it has become a customer service joke! There's a few of the long time employees that have always provided great customer service! It just feels like the management lost touch with the details and instilling customer service values in the new hires. read more

I enjoy this store. I came here every day on vacation because this Safeway has the only Starbuck's in town. The staff is absolutely wonderful. Groceries are a moderately priced and the customer service is amazing. The cashiers are incredibly friendly, and I've been helped with a friendly face when I needed to find a certain product. The pharmacy is equally kind. Overall, I'm very pleased. read more

I used to work for Safeway as a teenager. It was instilled in us that we MUST either be able to re-call exactly where something is located, usher our customers who are asking directly to be able to help them find it, or call someone to come if we could not. Two separate occasions recently I was told "I know we have that item, but I don't know where it is." Period. No follow up of "Let me call someone to come help you" or "Let me find out, and I can take you to where the item is located". No follow through. Makes spending 100+ dollars there a week mildly sickening. read more

Prefer Safeway to Fred's on so many levels. This store is clean, staff are friendly, occasional High School employee has "deer in the headlight look", but that seems the norm these days. I have run across one or two rude employees in the 18 years I've shopped here, but their shelf life was short lived! The produce section offers fresh product at great prices, now seeing more organic which is always a plus! Great store, keep up the good work! read more

I recently moved to Coos Bay and am very disappointed with my local Safeway. I had a specific experience last night when trying to find something in the store. I just wanted to go in find the item and leave. The signs that show what is in a specific isle are incorrect. For instance if you want to find tooth paste there is no reference to it at all above the isle. Okay not that big of a deal. So I walked over to Customer Service to ask for the item I was looking for and no one was there. No bell or sign saying they were closed or not available. So I asked a checker where to find the item. She sent me to isle 2. I mentioned to her I had already looked there. After 3 trips to the front of the store I finally found something that would work. The price was missing from the shelf so I had no clue what I was going to pay. I never once was asked if someone could help me find what I was looking for. The cashier asked me if I found everything okay. I said no but just received a strange look from him. I was at this point totally frustrated. I asked for the manager and was told it was the first person I talked to. She offered no help. The prices are very high so I would think customer service would be very important. One more suggestion people shouldn't have to load there own groceries and they should be asked if they want assistance to the car. I will be doing my shopping at Fred Meyers. They have superior customer service. read more
