I have been doing the Fred Meyer's click cart for two years. I go every Friday to pick up my groceries. I love the service, love the app, love the personal attention you get from the shopper who picks out my groceries. I never have to go in the store and get tempted by impulse shopping. Washer fluid, flip flops on sale, fresh hot fried chicken, tasteful curtains, local-ish produce and wine, and even champagne. Fred Meyer probably has it all, and much of it with sale signs. We were surprised to find a giant Costco-size warehouse hiding behind a small-ish vintage supermarket facade, so it had that wizard of world illusion of being larger inside. We managed to check off the whole shopping list. It was easy to find this store off 101, and we managed to squeeze our RV into the back of the parking lot for a picnic lunch. The store staff were friendly, and there weren't a ridiculous amount of carts left outside. I think this store has it all. I'd come back. read more

I've been going to Fred Meyers for several years. I used to drive to store until I moved to within walking distance. (I prefer to walk when it's nice.) Since I've started walking to store and carry a back pack (because easier to carry when walking.) I am immediately followed through out store once I'm spotted with back pack. I've never even had the thought of stealing from anywhere. Yet I'm followed through out store and made to feel like I'm being labeled as a thief because of wearing a back pack. They've never seen me steal and won't ever catch me because I don't steal. I pay for my stuff but profiled as a thief/shoplifter because I carry a back pack. My sister gets same treatment and we both have complained to corporate and was told by main office this is "not policy of Fred Meyers" and that it will stop. Well after several complaints They still profile us and follow us. Legal action is next corporate is aware of this as well. Sad they are willing to risk lawsuit over a couple employees who have nothing better to do than make customers fill unwelcome and like a thief when all they are and have been is an honest paying customer. 3 of the 4 who always follow me are Penny, Amber and Tonya the fourth is a red head man be aware of them. It's your average Fred Meyer. Nothing fancy. They were stocked with items that I needed so that is a positive. The employees were helpful when I asked for help. They did not approach me to see if I needed help which I would have preferred. Parking lot has plenty of parking if pulling a trailer. Don't forget to sign up for your FM card so that you can earn discounts on gas. This is always so helpful especially when driving far distances (like here from Vancouver, WA). read more

Went to Fred Meyer to restock our pantry. We went to one in Wilsonville OR last week & it was VERY nice. So we figured this one would be too. It looks to be an older store & appears to undergoing some construction to remodel, which may cause some confusion. Although it was clean & neat, especially during construction, it came in second place to the store in Wilsonville. It's not only groceries, they have apparel, furniture, toys, electronics, housewares & much more. Since it's our first visit to this store, we didn't have a clue where things were anyway. So, we just walked up & down aisles looking for what we wanted. Employees were friendly & helpful. The floral section was...well..okay, but could improve. Meat, produce & vegetables were all good. Our checker, Adrian was nice, very friendly & chatted with us as we checked out. Only complaint I have with him, was the fact he put a large spray cleaner into a bag with our potato chips. I'd rather the fragile chips be in a bag by itself. However, it does seem that anywhere you go, people just don't know how to bag groceries anymore. All in all, it's a good store, but we feel there is room for improvement. read more

Wanting to get a few things for the 4th of July. Stopped in to Freddys to pick up some strawberries, mushrooms and lettuce. Wow....lets talk about moldy and slimy produce. Ewwww.... maybe I won't. So, then I decided I needed to buy another gas propane tank. Stood in line, asked the lady for some help...she called on the phone and requested help. I paid for the tank and then she told me to wait outside until someone could help me. I waited 15 min. No one came. SoOOo...I stood in line again. This time the line was longer. Finally, I reached the lady again and told her no one came to help me. SOOOoooo...this time she called over the intercom. She then told me to wait out side again until someone could help me. I wait another 15 min. Did anyone come? Nope. SoOOooo I'm getting a bit frustrated about now and just wanted to get my money back...but guess what. I had to stand in line again. And... the line was even longer than the last 2 times I had to stand in line. 6ft apart and people were waiting out the door. This is insanity. The lady who tried to get me help earlier eventually notices me standing in line again and calls another guy to the desk. She is swearing and telling another worker that I've been waiting for over 30 minutes for some help and no one is helping me. She was pissed. Not at me, but at the other workers. Finally, a guy came and helped me. I grabbed my tank and left. Whew...not worth it. Go somewhere else to get a tank and forget about buying fresh produce there too. read more

The Coos Bay store has received its long overdue remodel, and things aren't as goofy as they once were, but it's still not quite like a "normal" Fred Meyer. The store's layout is a lot better than it once was, however, it reminds me more of a marketplace store than the former full-line store. Departments are in odd locations (pharmacy being in the electronics section still) - part of the reason being that the full remodel they wanted to do was not possible due to the store being in a flood plain. If you're expecting the full Fred Meyer experience, this mostly delivers, however, stores like Medford or Florence are closer to what you would expect. read more

I visited Fred Meyer the other day to get a simple bottle of wine. When I checked out at the register, the cashier told me that I had to take out my driver's license and present the BACK side as well as the front, to complete the purchase. I had a stroke recently and was not able to easily do this, and I finally left the wine behind and completed my purchase. Later, I checked the store to verify what I had experienced - it is their new policy. The assistant told me there is a new sign that states that. I'm not impressed. I've found no place else in Coos Bay that has that policy. Nobody. It's more trouble for me to shop at Fred Meyer than it used to be, and quite frankly their now policy is a pain in the ass that exhibits no useful purpose . That said, I'm moving to Walmart and leaving Fred Meyer behind for good. I don't want or need the aggravation I'm getting from Fred Meyer now. So long, boys. read more

There is currently a covid outbreak at the fred meyer in coos bay. employees are told (by management) not to tell other employees about the positive covid tests currently circulating the store. The entire produce department is out due to its (almost) entire staff testing positive for covid. The front end has but a mere skeleton staff and people from other stores have been called in to run and manage the store. This is no surprise at all. This store has allowed maskless employees, customers, management and others to enter the store. To announce that they currently have or had covid and allowed to shop the entire store MASKLESS. The CDC has finally been made "aware" of this "outbreak" and may or may not do anything about it. Employees are being allowed to use the excuse of "covid pay" to go home and "quarantine" (while they get payed) and many of whom do not have symptoms. The entire store, management and employees-alike should be TOLD when someone tests positive whether it is in their department or NOT. People have FAMILIES, CHILDREN WITH UNDERLYING HEALTH ISSUES, NEWBORNS, THE ELDERLY, etc. And kroger cares more about turning a buck then the life of an employee let alone a customer. SHUT THEM DOWN, CLEAN THIS STORE BEFORE THE ENTIRE TOWN GOES DOWN. And treat the employees with ACTUAL RESPECT AND EMPATHY. THEY are the reason you are still open, THEY are the reason YOU all go home to YOUR FAMILIES and THEY deserve to have the complete option to stay safe and not bring this home to THEIR families. read more

Went to return some boots my mom bought me ( my elderly mother so they were obviously on clearance), it was from back in May. I called ahead to make sure it was ok. The woman on the phone was so rude, I actually mentioned it to my husband. Well I got off of work and stood in line to return the boots. I noticed the cashier was agitated and more than one customer told her " hope you have a better day"-well that's awkward. I had the pleasure of experiencing Debbie. She was so rude and kept slamming things down. Seemed upset about my return "only being $7" it was actually $9, but who's counting . "Oh! And they were even on clearance?!"-what's you're point Debbie? Listen Debbie, I probably get paid less than you to get yelled at on the phone all day. A typical grocery store like every one of them but today when I was standing in line I heard one cashier, Melanie B., surprisingly in the "Family Friendly" aisle make fun of a young female customer. It looked like the young woman was ok with joking but then Melanie told the young woman who was with her father to move out of her parents home at the age of 31. Mind you, this is during the COVID pandemic, and housing is limited in Coos Bay. The young woman was visibly upset by this mean teasing. Then the young lady said it was a new house and she paid rent, Melanie just used this to make more fun of her. The young woman looked like she was crying as she walked out. It's not polite to make fun of someone you don't know. I stopped her and she told me that she is an essential worker for a medical facility in town and works full time at night, today was her day off and this was the first time she had been out. Her father had lost his job due to the pandemic and she is now the breadwinner in her family. She helps them as much as she can. Melanie was not nice in making fun of her and not bothering to find out the full story. read more

This was our first time at a Fred Meyer. It was huge. We needed a watch battery-Check. Hubby needed new sandals-Check again! I couldn't find sandals or boots. Guys seemed to have a better selection of outdoor type. The Women's Dept. had more fancy type instead of sports types. It was the end of the season so I will try again. This is just an observation about quality. I'm at an age where I frequently need a restroom. I prefer them to be clean. I understand that keeping a mens room clean is not easy. Here's my beef. On the inside of the men's room door is the little chart indicating how often the room is cleaned. It's all neatly filled out and signed out. Yet, as I inspect the toilet before using it I find dust on the back of the toilet. How do you clean a restroom without wiping down the entire toilet? Dust doesn't happen in an hour. Urine and feces, maybe. Muddy floor, sure. Men work hard and get dirty-- I get that. Dust tells me their cleaning is not thorough nor is it thorough very frequently. I suppose a mill worker may have sat there shedding duff and saw dust but I doubt it. I would maybe be less critical if this was Yuma or El Paso where the dusty wind blows often. But in a moist coastal area dust build-up takes a little longer. It's located in the front of the store near the check out area not near the freight dock. This tells me management is weak and employees are under supervised. It makes me question cleanliness for the entire business. You could and need to do better, Freddy. I'm disappointed. read more

I have shopped at this Fred Meyer for 17 years, and I love it. The only complaint I have is lack of basic customer service. Smiles, greetings, ect... I have noticed much improvement in the last several months, but some employees could still use some training. One greeting that maybe well intended, but very unprofessional is when I am greeted with sweetie, Hun ect... It is patronizing and to personal coming from an employee. I am looking forward to some changes in this area, and plan on staying a loyal customer for years to come. read more

Since reviewing Fred Meyer four years ago (2009), many situations have come up to show how far downhill this store has come. First, I had purchased my S&B Oriental Hot Mustard there for years. The product disappeared from their shelves. I spent half a year dealing with Fred Meyer, S&B and the parent company Kroger to get this product back up, all to no avail. Go look up this mustard on Amazon.com and you will see it has about two dozen reviews and they were all 5 stars the last I looked. There was no problem with the product, just the store and the corporation. Second, I have ordered up two ham and turkey sandwiches weekly for several months. The price for a made to order sandwich is $4.99. That was fine and I kept ordering them until they tried to charge me over $13, because of "extra meat". There is NO extra meat involved, it's just making the meat portion half turkey and half ham but these half brains can't handle that anymore. When I protested, the chunky short lady said she would let it go "this time" but I told her I had never been charged for "extra meat" before on this long time order. She insisted I had. Believe me, if I had, this conversation would have been held a LONG TIME AGO!!! Meat portion size is highly variable here but so long as they put some on the sandwich and left the price alone, I was happy. Not now! Basically calling me a liar just added to the situation. Third, when the Ronson flints disappeared, no one could give me a straight answer as to what happened and why. Now remember folks, these guys carry Ronson lighter fluid. Lighter fluid and flints go hand in hand like bacon and eggs! Fred Meyer still has the fluid but no flints. Fourth, when trying to deal with Fred Meyer, they do not respond to complaints. I have even written the Kroeger corporate HQ in Ohio via snailmail. You ignore me at your peril and you have lost my business and recommendations. No humorous ending to this review folks. You won't like these people any more than I do right now as soon as something goes screwy. SHOP ELSEWHERE! read more

For the most part the store clerks are nice polite and attentive. I used to shop at Fred Meyer often but not so much anymore. I am in my older age now so I find dealing with their constant policy changes tedious and annoying. The latest requirement is for them to scan my drivers licence. There is no way anybody can mistake me for under 21. Aside from feeling harassed I don't want them to have all my information which they will sell along with my shopping habits and preferences. As a result I no longer buy any beer or wine at this store . At the gas station if paying with cash they want you to prepay . That would be fine if I didn't have to wait until the attendant finds the cashier to hand him the money before he can even start pumping. Then repeat the whole thing to get any change. Safeway across the street gives you gas rebates and they don't harass or inconvenience their customers. I hope they pull it together because there are many more other stores to shop. read more

I like this store! I like it that while they still don't much give you the option often for paper or plastic, at least their plastic bags hold up to getting your groceries all the way home. It's not my favorite produce section, but beyond that... Freddies does a pretty good job of keeping pricing and quality competitive. It's always been a very good sign to me when a store keeps many or most of the same employees for many, many years on end. I can safely say the faces at our local Fred Meyer are mostly all quite familiar! I've watched box boys work their way up to management, and step right into the shoes. I've watched bad clerks go quickly by the wayside. The only real complaint I have is how they handle the day after Thanksgiving sales. K-Mart opens on Thanksgiving Day for those of us who don't want to spend the day watching sports, and it gives a tiny head start on the dreaded Black Friday shopping. I'd love to see Freddies do the same, and offer their half price socks and towels a day early to avoid the stampede they have every year. It's just socks. It's just towels. The donuts and coffee are a nice touch since the lines are WAY too long, and the wait is unreasonable. More checkers or less leader items for the sale. I've never understood stores that install so many checkout lines (which Fred Meyer doesn't have) and purposefully made anxious customers angry by leaving them all closed. I have been privy to a couple of "employee conversations" about their previous evening events I could've lived without waiting on. But... I generally always find exactly what I'm looking for and can get answers from employees willing to search them out as well. I'll continue to shop Fred Meyer! read more

I'm a fan of Fred Meyer and shop at whichever one I can find. This review will pertain to THIS Fred Meyer and to whether or not an RV can fit in the parking lot. I think this used to be something else and Fred Meyer took over. The building is NOT a typical Fred Meyer style. It's more of a warehouse painted in Fred Meyer colors. Parking lot is small. Don't even try to get an RV in here, I skipped right by. As for the gas station.... I had a 15 cent discount coming. Took one look at this cramped gas station and passed it by. After stopping in at the FM in Brookings on the way to NorCal the other week, I'm reminded what a sad outdated mess the Coos Bay store is. Should I care about FM? Oh sure, the store chain has NW roots. But it hasn't really been a hometown operation since Fred G. Meyer died in 1978 at the age of 92, and the slide into corporate shenanigans began -- culminating in a merger with East Coast food giant Kroger in 1998. If I'm going to shop at a non-locally owned mega-store, I'll stick to WalMart thanks. At least they're making an effort to spruce up their Coos Bay operation. "Freddy's" just seems to be milking the community with no effort to pay us back at all. read more

The grocery dept. is like shopping in a Frat house. I want to buy my stuff and get out, instead I have to weave my way around rude employees who either ignore me to the point of blocking my way, then when I finally get to the front, try to strong-arm me towards the slowest possible line. Not to mention I don't work for you, so quit trying to make me ring my own groceries. Their prices go up and down based on food cards and social security checks being filled. They raise their prices in general then pretend that having to buy 10 of something in small cans for a discount is a "Sale". Literally hundreds and hundreds of these little "Sale" signs conveniently front of the real price which is listed only in tiny, tiny text. Sleazy. Also, why can't they ring anything up at the right price instead of .50 cents more than the huge sign sitting on top of it says? Hence why I don't want to get in the line they keep pushing me towards with one person in it, there's always one like that, because the price never rings up right and if the customer happens to notice, they have to stand and argue with the clerk. They're usually good about fixing the price at the cash register, if you mention it's wrong but it's because they have a ton of practice and probably know they're trying to screw their customers over and it's better not to make a big deal about it. People locally "like" this place because Walmart, the only other semi-affordable choice is a total zoo s***fest to step foot in. Thus the bar is set very low so I wouldn't expect any changes here. read more

"Cody" and the manager "James" at the Fred Meyer Fuel Station have really changed my feelings about the Fred Meyer Fuel Station which I previously gave 5 stars to because of fuel quality and excellent service customer service.. I forgot to get gas this morning when my tank was already running low so when I arrived here, I had a warning on my car's display saying "0 miles left of fuel" and my gauge was on Empty. I asked "Cody" to fill it up and a few seconds later after he has walked away, the pump clicked off(stopped pumping) at 4 Gallons. The attendant "Cody" comes back, starts it again, walks away and soon after it clicks off at 8 gallons. He then comes to my windows and tells me with a very condescending attitude "Turn the key - Check it..". I tell him It was Empty when I pulled in and my tank capacity is 16-Gallons. He walks over to the pump, decides on his own to just complete the transaction at 8-Gallons and as he is walking to my window with the receipt I ask for a manager. The Manager "James" comes over and while also condescending, is clearly frustrated with me. I tell him calmly from my drivers seat that I don't appreciate "Cody" treating me as though I'm lying or somehow inept at reading a screen and fuel gauge. The manager insists I turn the key or leave. So, I turn the key on and off and tell him its half-full. He clearly doesn't believe me but since he can't (Or, Shouldn't) call a customer a liar, he proceeds to start another card transaction the whole time inhaling and exhaling loudly while saying things like "Jeez" and "Ugh" under his exuberantly loud breath. I attempted to explain how and why I think something was wrong with the fuel gun/pump as it filled my tank without issue incredibly slowly. I try explaining that in the same car, I drive over 20k miles each year and this isn't a problem with my car elsewhere or here in the past. But, he wasn't having any of it. 8 Gallons later and my tank was now full. He spent at least a minute with my tank Now Officially Full, repeatedly pressing the trigger between shut-off's filling it up as much as he possibly could before I had to order him to Stop! Thankfully the head manager at Fred Meyer was extremely Apologetic, Understanding and Logical. She promised to have a "discussion" with the men. But with the amount of Ethical and Safety violations I witnessed - I'll be staying away for a while. read more

Coos Bay store must be the step child of the FM Corp. I had heard other North-Westerners rave about FM, so when I moved to Coos Bay I was looking forward to a nice shopping experience; alas, I almost prefer Wal-Mart. The building looks like it's pre WWll and road leading into store is sure to throw your car out of alignment and rattle your bones . Staff is courteous and helpful, but on the home-goods/clothing section, aisles are very narrow making it difficult to pass another customer and it's next to impossible to get a cart down the clothing aisles. The food section, while a little better, doesn't feel clean and well kept. If this area had more variety for this type of shopping, like maybe a Target, this would not be my first shopping choice. read more

It's a Fred Meyer in Coos Bay, not Portland. I love it. The layout is a bit odd, but you get used to it. There are 2 parking lots, the back one you could navigate an rv in as long as it's not one of those huge long this-cost-more-than-my-house-and-alimony-combined trailers. Service has always been great. Super friendly and family friendly checkers. (You'd be amazed at the people at check outs I've run into that aren't family friendly at other stores.) Prices are competitive. Produce is good. Sales of grocery items are typical among comparable stores, and sales of non grocery are a bit better. Selection is perfect. Not too much that it's overwhelming but enough to satisfy. read more

I went to FM this morning to get a few supplies needed for a painting project I am working on. Well, cant get paint at FM anymore, the entire department is gone. If I wanted to stain my deck on the other hand, I would have been set. Okay, also needed a small hand sander, I'll pick that up. Well, there are no more power tools at Fred Meyer. No saws, drills, or even a weed eater! I was quickly running out of reasons to stay. It was bad enough they hopped on the "me too" train with no longer selling guns, but this is a joke. The variety side is getting bare. Shelves are empty aisle after aisle, with "weaved baskets" filling space. Perhaps the store is getting ready to close. The hardware store down the highway will be getting all my "project" business. Go Ace! read more

I shop here about once a week, and have experienced multiple times the poor customer service. On 3 occasions at the self-check out in the grocery section, the cashier helping people there was very rude to customers. I personally experienced this 3 times, and saw other customers recieving the same treatment. Talking to them like they were stupid because they did not quite understand the self-check system. I talked to the manager but the problem seems to continue.. The other cashiers at the registers are usually friendly, but when they work the self-check the become very unfriendly. read more
