Went to the local Safeway to pick up some things for our road trip home, what a disaster, the container of strawberries and the large blueberries were inedible. When you turned over the top strawberries they were rotted, the blueberries were like mush, very old, the produce manager should be fired for displaying this garbage. Public be warned. I'm glad I don't have a store like this where I live. After calling this store, it's apparent what the problem is, the produce department hung up on me and when I spoke with the manager he never even apologized or offered to refund the purchase, not sure how they keep the doors open with management like this, good luck Coos Bay. read more

I'm disappointed in the Starbucks! Love love the store but you might want to reconsider who you hire to run the Starbucks kiosk. When a customer wants a drink or a special drink from the Starbucks app and you shame it and tell the customer to reconsider it, is not a good thing!! Nice people? You betcha! Not so good is the inability to keep items in stock despite the coronavirus pandemic having faded away. This morning I wanted to get Deep (brand name) Chicken Tikka Masala. It had been regularly available for some time but it was MIA two weeks ago as well as today. The man who works the frozen foods section says it is a good selling item and that he requests it but the PDX Safeway distribution center is spacing him off on this and quite a few other items. I did buy another brand of Chicken Tikka Masala two weeks ago and got a pair of them. Did not like the first one. This morning I bought two Deep Curry Chicken and when I got home, my memory kicked in that it was a bit too spicy for me. I went back with receipts for both purchases to get a refund. Guess what? The lady at the customer service counter told me they did not issue refunds on perishable items. Excuse me while my common sense kicks in to say "frozen goods that are kept frozen are not known for perishing". They should have given me the refund. I called up corporate HQ and told them about this experience. They also played the "perishable" card. WTF? Next up was calling the store manager. She said she would refund me but they would have to sell the frozen meal as "distressed goods", which would have made a loss for them. Margins are already thin for those in the grocery business so I told her I would spare her the loss as that is the kind of person I am. Anyways, between store policies and higher level management, Safeway has managed to mess up and get me quite ticked off along with plenty of others fed up with their inability to keep inventory levels up to snuff. In an age of computers and data management, there is NO excuse for messups like this. Heads need to roll and as for those who are customers, you might want to think about looking elsewhere for your most desired meals. read more

The Mrs & I are traveling & needed to restock. We found this Safeway to be clean & well stocked, with very helpful employees. We like to stop at the deli for fresh cut meats & cheeses. Tawnia served us & did a great job. She was informative when I asked about the different slices & very helpful. Riley was the cashier & was also an example of a great employee. My only concern is one I have with most grocery stores today. The baggers need training. We didn't have our own bags & he stuffed as much as he could into two paper bags. Placing a bag of chips next to a container of juice is a great way for us to enjoy potato chip crumbles. He placed one of the bags into our cart & said "Be careful, this is full. I don't trust the handles." Well, why did you cram so much into it then? Put the chips into a separate bag. We're going to pay for it. read more

So, what brilliant architect or store assistant manager designed the parking lot on the Virginia Street Safeway? The problem used to be that they put all the shopping cart return Carrols only about 35 feet from the door, instead of in the middle of the parking lot, giving you no incentive to take your car back like a good citizen. They may as well have eliminated all of the carols in favor of having people just walk that extra 30 feet. The latest parking lot idiocy is that they have redone the sidewalk just outside the exit. Instead of pushing your car straight out into the parking lot, which is what you would normally do, you have to turn immediately to the left and go about 20 feet before you can find a dip in the sidewalk. Otherwise, you're pushing your cart off of about an eight or 9 inch cliff. While I was standing there, about four people fell for the new surprise. The idea behind good parking lot design is to make it easy and preferable for customers to be good citizens and return their carts. You don't impair their ability to get to the parking lot by putting cliffs in the middle of the way, and you don't decrease their incentive to return the cart properly by putting all of the return carols right next to the door that they just came out of. read more

If you're going to place a pickup order, don't bother choosing the pickup time as when you actually want to pick it up. Choose an hour or two beforehand. I don't live in North Bend, so it's more than a little frustrating waiting in the parking lot when your order is still being shopped 70+ minutes after the intended pickup time. read more

People in the area know if supermarkets were like RV parks, Safeway would be considered a luxury park. Well this is a Mega Safeway, meaning not only do they have a gas station but also a pharmacy. I noticed the layout is the same as most Safeways. This particular market doesn't share the lot with anyone so parking is a breeze. They have a large selection of fresh fruits and produce, in store bakery, meats, and everything and everything to cover your grocery list. Including a bin for straight to DVD section. I don't understand how they don't have as much fresh seafood being in a coastal town. Most of the seafood is frozen or previously frozen. And brace for it People from Hawaii, NO POKE!!! Our family had the sad duty of planning a funeral during the Christmas holidays. A reception was planned after the service at the church and we had promised to provide food with the expectation that we would find a local catering company with whom to work. Well, it was Christmas week and everyone we talked to was already committed and couldn't accommodate our need. On Wednesday, Christmas Day, we were able to put a catering order in online for sandwich and pinwheel plates, fruit plates and vegie plates which were perfect for the reception. On Thursday we confirmed they received the order and on Friday we prepaid for the food and made arrangements for someone other than me to pick it up Saturday, the day of the funeral, and deliver it to the church. If it hadn't been for Safeway catering we would have been making sandwiches ourselves the night before. On top of all of this, they were significantly cheaper than any of the caterers would have been. The sandwiches were plentiful, the bread was fresh and the fruit was top quality an everyone enjoyed the food. We couldn't have been more pleased with what they did. read more

Yep, just another Safeway. Nice little organic produce section. Lettuce was actually in good condition and not rotting and wilted like Fred Mayers organic lettuce. I do like the "O" Organic Safeway brand they offer. They now have their own kumbucha brand. Its only $2.50 You do have to search for the "O" brand. I wish they would just put all the organics in one area instead of having me have to play treasure hunt. Anyway...nice atmosphere..super friendly service and easy checkout. read more

I drove to this Safeway store from Libby Ave. to get Chinese food from the deli. We have had the Chinese food here many times & was very happy. When I got there today, I couldn't believe what I saw (I should have taken a picture). The pot stickers were dried out, all but 2 of their entrées were almost empty and dried out. The chow mein looked like it was there all day & the noodles were broken pieces. The lady that helped me said if you have issues with the freshness, we have them in the prepared section. If I wanted to buy from the prepackaged section, I would have gone there! The gentleman in the back said he was making more chow mein & it would take a half hour. I bought some sushi & left because I was definitely not going to take a chance on the entrees getting my family sick. Other than this bad experience, I really do like the overall store & its appearance. read more

I will give it more when they take care of a situation. Their self-check-out woman, Roma, is so rude. I watched as she embarrassed a customer while passing herself as a manager when she not. She was argumentative and the poor woman she sought to humiliate was like a bullseye She needs to be retrained to sensitivity training or reassigned. Safeway needs to train employees better than this. I felt so bad for the real cashier who looked so embarrassed herself being caught in the middle. Not in the habit of reviewing grocery stores, but this one is a real gem ... especially considering the area. The last time we lived in a backwater burg like this was on another work assignment to Huntington, West Virginia back in 2005. Granted, the times have changed a lot in 10 years. But back then the best we could do was a neighborhood Kroger's, a Sam's Club warehouse across the river in Ohio, and occasional trips to Columbus, Ohio or Lexington, Kentucky ... the closest outposts of bona fide civilization. Nowadays, our local North Bend Safeway is clean, well-lit, and has an amazing stock of Organic foods at reasonable prices. It's not the end all, be all, but it makes life a lot easier in terms of grocery shopping for healthy food. And that's not a little thing we take for granted. read more

If I could give the pharmacy zero stars, I would. They have the absolute WORST customer service I have ever encountered. They speak to you like you are dumb and roll their eyes at customers. I understand you work with a lot of difficult people and a lot of people with mental issues but GET ANOTHER JOB IF YOU CANT HANDLE IT. You signed up for this job and you make good money so maybe you should learn how to fake it just like the rest of us in customer service and the medical industry. The bakery is sooooo good not the sawdust stuff one used to get at grocery stores. I understand the donuts are baked, they are very good. So are the cream puffs cakes and other goodies. Real cream in the puffs. I watch my weight this is will worth the calories as an occasional treat. The store is very clean. It has organic produce and a good meat department. I like this Safeway best out of all in coos county. They are all super friendly and they accommodate my sometimes finicky mother and her wine requests. The managers here take pride in a clean shopping environment that is easy to shop and navigate. The meat counter is friendly and full of tips and deals. They have helped us through many holiday mishaps. Love the bakery too. read more

It's a gorgeous store, and I love the olive bar. The deli here actually has really great sandwiches, and they don't skimp on the meat, they give you plenty. And you can really taste the quality of the products they use in their sandwiches. The employees that make the sandwiches up for you are fast and are easy going, accommodating and very patient with all my strange requests. Ive eaten at the deli quite a bit, and sadly its a gamble...one day a salad will be fresh, next vist its starting to turn slimy with mushy bites. Same with the chinese food, I've ordered a rice bowl that is tasty, next visit it contained some dried old crusty chicken parts...some were just crusty pieces of deep fried chicken skin without meat. I decided I can no longer take the risk. It hasn't been consistantly fresh like I would expect, I would have given one star, but when the food is fresh it tastes pretty good...but its a gamble. and you dont know what you will get.. read more

this review is for the gas station part only. it would take a miracle or sizable bribe for me to ever buy gas there again. it is absolutely the worst service i've received, not just for a gas station, but in the history of everything i've ever done. not only was it slow, but the attendants are outstandingly rude. safeway seems to care so much about service and having a nice place to shop in the store, but i won't be going to this safeway again unless drastic things are done to the gas station part. read more
