Be very very careful here. They are notorious for selling expired meat items - smoked turkey slices etc. I have complained several time to their managers but it goes to deaf ears. They are more quick to refund you but do nothing. And sometimes these are expired by 10-15 days. Disgusting read more

I have a love/hate relationship with this Safeway. The thing I love most is that it's really close to where I live, so it's convenient. They tend to have what I need, but at the same time, they also fall quite flat on delivering the things I expect. Additionally, their prices are actually not that great sometimes. You could end up spending just as much here compared to Whole Foods. I do like that they are open 24x7, but I only go here when it's convenient. BAKERY DEPARTMENT. If you want good ratings/reviews, please provide good customer services to your customers!! Customers, if you ever have any questions or requests in the bakery dept., don't bother asking the ladies in this department. They are very unfriendly. For an example, I'm waiting at the counter to get some service for a good minute or two, the lady behind the counter just glances at me and then continues to do what she is doing. Then, after standing there for another two mins or so, she looks at me again, then finally ask me if I needed anything? Like, no duh!! I get this look from her, like I am bothering her, just for having a question for her. There was no greetings at all. Not a smile. Nothing but an irritated face was what I got. And this is NOT the first time I got this kind of service from these ladies in this department. I just moved to the area and was excited to be so close to a Whole Foods Market, but then I walked into Safeway. From a variety perspective, this is one of the nicest and well-stocked grocery stores I've been to since moving to California. There is no need to ever go back to Whole Foods. This Safeway location has everything you'd want in a grocery store, with plenty of fresh food options. There's also a Starbucks inside if that's your thing. The lines are long, but I can't recall another store I've been to in the past 10 years that doesn't have long lines. The prices are a bit higher than what I paid at Savemart in Modesto, but the selection is way better. Unlike most of the recent reviews, I didn't have any issues with the service. And here is why: 1. this place is run by total idiots without a doubt 2. workers there say "hiya doing" when they're not even looking at you. so I don't know if they're talking to me or to the potato or can of tuna. If you don't have eye contact with someone, you can't say hi to them because it is freaky. 3. they ask you "did find everything alright?" well what the hell does that question mean anyway? No I found the banana pointing to the wrong direction and the toilet paper label pointing west. 4. when you ask them where something is at, of course they have no clue, so what good are they? 5. I avoid the cash register and go to the self help line not be asked if I want to donate for something or another. Well now the self help machine is also asking for donations. I hate donating so stop asking me this stupid question 6. they rearranged their deli/sandwich shop and now it is absolute mess. They want us to order using the machine and not communicate with the idiots behind the counter. Well I don't want to use the machine because I like to tell how much of this and how little of that I want on my freaking sandwich. Also they like to start by making my sandwich on a premade or prepared sandwich from the morning. I don't want the stuff that was stacked up from the morning you idiots. Would you eat that yourself? If not then why make it for me. 7. their self help machines are always messed up and always have to get help 8. their credit card machine have you punch up so many keys, Safeway card, debit or credit, donation, yes/no, I don't know what else. Those things are supposed to be idiot proof meaning just swipe and sign... how difficult can that be? Safeway, I hate you with passion. Glad to have a grocery store on the Eastside! This Safeway has been the main anchor that adores the corner of Tassajara & Dublin Boulevard since the beginnings of "civilization" for East Dublin. The store is well-lit, vibrant, well-stocked, and kept clean throughout the day. I've come in here during the early mornings, mid-day, and even almost closing time - and I have yet never experienced seeing clutter, nor having to wait for a long time at the checkout stand! I also appreciate how they have a good variety of products that aren't available at other Safeway locations, or is it just because it's in the Tri-Valley?! Hmmm... Anywho, the associates are all around courteous and hospitable, even their baristas at Starbucks - very professional, yet productive in making sure we got what we needed. The only downside about this location is it doesn't have a gas station, unlike the other Safeway in Downtown Dublin - but then, there'd be no space for it, as this plaza is already bursting into its seams! Safeway is joined by many delectable restaurants, cafes, and services such as banks and salons, to name a few! This area is very neighborhood-friendly, with lots of parking & easy access off the freeway! Highly recommended to do your grocery shopping whenever you're in need of something in your pantry, and you happen to be in the area! read more

You all remember when Safeway went through this craze of being overly solicitous? Can I help you, how are you today, ect. You were asked this by at least by ten different people per visit. I can tell you that you can shop at this Safeway and be content that not one person will offend you by offering assistance. A couple of weeks ago I went here and tried to purchase two gift cards at the self check out. The 'CS' Clerk came over and insisted on seeing both my debit card and my license. Really? I asked why and she said it was store policy. First of all, my photo is on my debit card as approved ID for BOFA cards. I mentioned that and she said it was store policy. Then she told me to run my debit card and enter the pin number while she watched from a vantage point of two inches away from me. I asked her to step away and she moved approximately 2 centimeters. I expressed that I wanted her to move away and that she was being rude. She apologized for being rude and simply put one hand over her eyes. I spoke with the manager who apologized profusely and then went on to say that she has spoken to this clerk on numerous occasions and just wants to give her a boot in the nether regions to teach her a lesson. I think she thought this is what I would want. Then demonstrated with a kick of her foot how she would do it. I really don't want that kind of reaction. I wsimply want an apology and assurance that it would not happen again; perhaps some compassion and a professional demeanor would be helpful as well. I am writing this today as I had the misfortune of needing to stop at Safeway on my way to work. Again, same CS clerk (I needed Claritin), and same manager. Same deplorable customer service skills as before; truly terrible ambassadors for Safeway. I have to remember to only frequent this store during the later shift when these two are no where to be found. Don't let me forget that I couldn't move down a produce aisle as it was blocked by two employees looking at their phones and showing each other photos. read more

i really really really enjoy living close to a supermarket. i'm just that big of a Fat Cat American where i feel happy about the fact that it takes only 3 minutes to drive to Safeway, grab some Zima, tampons, lottery tickets, plastic wrap, ciggies, cheetos, and a 40oz (j/k btw!!) and play cashier by using the self-checkout. when i'm looking for something specific and staring down each aisle reading the sign listings, a nice Safeway employee never fails to ask if they can help me find something. AND they even walk with me to make sure i find it! thank you! i've never seen an understocked shelf and the place is always clean and sparkling. the only thing i don't like is the sommelier who hunts me and everyone down while i'm browsing the wine section. he is just a little too friendly and pushy and tries to convince me that i'll just love the bacardi brand rum that i've been buying for years. read more

First time in this Safeway store, and mind you I shop at the Safeway in my town frequently. I was behind an older lady in the check out and she was telling the clerk that she asked for help in the flower department and the employee said they will get someone over there right away and to go there and wait, well apparently, nobody came so she was telling the clerk "someone could have told me that no one was coming, but instead I waited and waited for someone to come?" A clerk and a bagger both ignored her complaints....then the manager came over and (this is the kicker) the older lady then preceded to tell the manager the situation and this manager defended his employees!! No apology came from his mouth!! He said "I'll look into this, I think their on lunch right now" The older lady replied "Then someone should have told me they were on lunch and I wouldn't have waited so long, how am I suppose to know that information?" As she was walking away, the manager mumbled "Maybe that person didn't know the department was on lunch.....they aren't withholding information back from you" WHAT??? Unbelievable!!!! Again, no apology came from anyone's mouth!!! As I was done checking out, I looked at the clerk and the manager who was standing near by and said "Wow, is it too hard to just apologize to the old lady??, I'm sure an apology is what she was looking for, after all, she is a customer! Shame on you people for lousy customer service to the senior citizens!!" This incident bothered me so much that I had to put it on YELP. I am appalled at the way 3 employees handled that situation. Maybe they assumed because she was older, she couldn't defend herself.....so sad. I wonder if those employees would allow their mothers to be treated with that kind of service?? read more

This review is for the Pharmacy only... The technicians who work here seem to be hired only if they can be rude and inefficient. Especially rude are the lady called Ashley and another Indian lady. They cut you off mid sentence, don't ever give a straight answer and seem to hate their jobs. And I am not a nagging and annoying customer either. I usually get along very well with store employees. It is incredible to me that they even have jobs with that attitude of theirs. This is not a one time experience either. Again and again we face the same shabby treatment from these two women. I have been going here for years and it used to be good but I will be changing to a different pharmacy next time. read more

Two words: Customer Service! Unfortunately, the lack of quality trained customer service here will make any positive experience...horrible. I live near by and honestly every time I shop here I encounter cashiers who are either loud talking back and forth to each other or seemingly angry that they have to work or beyond slow in their pace. On several occasions, cashiers have rung up my groceries but somehow all of my food does not make it into my grocery bag. Yes that's right..I get home looking for a small item (or two) and lo and behold it's not in my bag (nor my car)...but I was charged. The last time I went here, I made sure to pay close attention to my food as it was pushed down to the baggage area. The cashier was talking and laughing loudly to another cashier about how hungry she was. As expected, one item rolled near the plastic bag area -- I waited to see if any one would catch it (of course they didn't) and had to alert her as she handed me my receipt that my food item was left out. Now if this happened once every blue moon, then I'd chalk it up to being a simple mistake. But as often as it happens (or could happen - I usually catch it), it is not a mistake but rather a serious issue is customer service training. Overall, this store will do well profit wise due to its location - people have to eat. However, if corporate (which is like 10 minutes away from this location) is reading the comments, please consider implementing better training for your cashiers/baggers. If nothing less, proper professional etiquette when working (i.e. no loud, obnoxious conversations while you are ringing up customers, being attentive... you know the basics) would be much appreciated! read more

Zero stars (they made me pick one to submit this).. Went there tonight at 12:50am to get some medicine for a sick family member. Went to check out and was told that the registers close every night until 1:30am, so I can wait or go somewhere else. They said it was a store wide thing. So, i went to the Safeway in Pleasanton, and there was no problem. They had someone at the register and they were very happy. Bottom line is that if you are supposed to be open 24 hours, you should be open 24 hours. If you need to close registers, you should always leave one open, or else, don't say you are open 24 hours. It is not often i need to go at 12:50am, but I expect the service to be the same as if I went there at 12:50pm. Plus, why does this not affect Safeway Pleasanton? Wondering if the person just did not want to get up from their stocking work to help. In any case, a very bad service experience. read more

My boyfriend and I have been going to this safeway for 3 years now. We are locals, meaning we're about 5 mins of walking distance. We go in, we get what we need, and we're out. We always use self check out and had no problems, even if the lines are long, it's about a 4 min wait. Which, isn't bad. When we do have to use the checkers, they know us by name, have great conversation, and over all, great personalities. read more

I ordered a cupcake cake for my 2 year old for her birthday party. When I picked it up, it did not look like the one in their catalog at all! Instead of bright colors & a #2 with a winnie the pooh theme, it was all brown colored with winnie the pooh sliding down a honey type of decor on the cake. Not the one I ordered. I specifically ask the baker if it will look exactly like the one on their catalog and she had said yes. I had preordered this cake at least 2 weeks in advance! Since we needed the cake that day, we had to take it since there wasn't any other that we had bought. I think they screwed it up and we will probably never order from this bakery again. Can I put negative stars????!!!@$)&(8&) I went to Safeway to pick up a couple groceries but mostly to buy a gift card. When I got home there was no gift card! I dumped out my purse, the bag, I recheck the refrigerator to make sure it hadn't attached to something in the bag, I checked my car and my purse again... I checked EVERYWHERE! I came to the realization that I had to go back :(! It was a Friday late afternoon, I had just barely made it home to miss the traffic. This was NOT a good thing. So painstakingly I drove back to Dublin to go to Safeway, again. I show up, and stood next to the line (same checker and same bagger as before). They ignored me for a few minutes. Then I started pacing around the bagger to get his attention. There was a huge line, and after all... I'd already waited in it before! I told them what happened, and Maria the checker immediately said "I remember putting it on top of a box of cereal" and I though...LMAO really? HAHAHA because I didn't buy cereal... I AM ALLERGIC TO CEREAL LOL. So I said "I didn't buy cereal, and I don't have the gift card." I was calm, and to the point. Maria has the bagger check the tray to see if it went under the conveyer belt. It wasn't there. So she sent me to Kristi at customer service. She stared at me for a few moments obviously sizing me up, and wondering what was going on. She went over to the station and looked around, talked to the bagger, and talked to Maria, so still insisted that she "put it on top of my cereal box" I handed Kristi my receipt and said, "I didn't buy cereal" and Kristi checked and confirmed that I indeed did not buy cereal. LOL Maria was at a loss for words. Kristi went and got her mangar... Mark or Mike or something like that. The Manager, said well we have surveillance tapes so I'll go watch them and find out if she did put it in the bag. After 10 or 15 minutes of me standing there being stared at accusingly by Maria, Kristi and the bagger. (Meanwhile I got out my iPhone and started drafting this post, and posted a status update of Facebook, of how much I hate Safeway) Mark/Mike comes back and says "Well, I found the footage, and Maria hands (the bagger) something, but I can't tell what it was." and he hands me my receipt back, like that was it. Ha! So I said angrily, "So do I have to buy it again?" and he says "Well, no" and looks confused... and I say "well can you deactivate this one, and give me a new one?" and he says "I can't do that, but I'll give you another one. If you find the old one, will you please bring it in so that we don't loose money on it." LOL WOW! On another note, I already hated Safeway, I avoid them like the plague. Every time I go there something crazy like this happens. AND this trip to Safeway (before the missing gift card) went relatively well. I came home and while I was unpacking well telling my boyfriend all about how it wasn't that bad! He was SHOCKED out of his mind to find out I had actually gone there in the first place. Officially, I will NOT never again in my life, set foot in or spend money in another Safeway. I don't care if I become a pain in the you know what, I'm not supporting that company as long as my life depends on it. read more

Truly horrible service. Officious lady named Monica kind of in charge. When I pointed out that I didn't get the special bonus item I qualified for, she first challenged me, then when she went and confirmed for herself, she made a very brief show of looking for it, then said "it says while supplies last, and we're out." Never mind the tag says "thru December 31st", never mind that she could have offered to refund the additional items I bought to get the bonus, never mind a raincheck. Seriously horrible customer service. She should not be in charge of a customer service function. I have been a regular customer of this store. I will now be going out of my way to avoid it. this is one of the nicer Safeways I've seen. very clean and bright, wide aisles. it also has the biggest and nicest wine selection I've seen in a Safeway, actually the nicest in any chain grocery store I've been in. has a nice bakery and Starbucks inside too. read more

we live right behind the safeway so it is super convenient for us to head here for our groceries. i actually really like this safeway - overall, it is super clean, the aisles are well-spaced and things are relatively easy to find. the produce is fresh and the meats are really good. the butchers are really helpful - they will 'order' things for you and cut meats the way you want. the only cons i can think of is that the staff can be inconsistent at times in terms of service - but i would say there are more positive moments than negative ones. prices may be a bit more than some other stores, but it is worth it. read more

Extremely incompetent staff on Saturday morning today from customer service on down. I placed an order at 7:30for nine balloons. I asked for it to be ready at 8:30, and at 8:40 I was standing there waiting for them. Four people are standing there doing nothing and one of the four is blowing up balloons. I explained that I'm waiting for my order and I was literally told we cannot do it for you because I have another order of six balloons I am currently filling. No problem I say I'll wait and she literally says no I'm not going to be able to get it done in 30 minutes and I would not wait if I were you! Are you kidding me? I've never had a problem with this Safeway, until tonight. My mom and I were at the self-checkout line, and we were buying beer. Yes, it is against the California Law to check out alcohol at the self-checkout line. However, the box we were buying was too heavy for us to carry on to the regular checkout line. Normally, employees would come over and help the customers. However, the employees here were extremely rude, and only told us to not check out there. So after we went to the regular checkout line, my mom and I tried to lift up the box of beer, but it was again, too heavy. What was the employee doing? Just watching us impatiently, tapping on the conveyor belt. The cashier's name was Martaya, and she had been making these faces and mouthing the word "stupid". Even though she had told us what not to do when checking out alcohol before, she hadn't asked my mother for her ID. From what I know, when a customer checks out alcohol, no matter what your age is, the cashier should ask for your ID. She had not done that. As we were leaving, her and the rest of the employees were laughing at us. Instead of insulting your customers, you should help them, and be patient. This Safeway is one of the crown jewels of the chain, It's super clean inside and the staff is friendly. The store is huge and in a very nice plaza on Tassajara Road. I had no problem finding what was needed and their bakery staff was very friendly when picking up a cake for a party, even offered me help loading it in the car which i thought was great. Lived in the area for 4 years; finally writing a review for this place. I'm honestly not sure why so many people shop here. Safeway's prices are not good at all, unless the item is on special discount. So price-wise, nearly every other supermarket in the area has them beat. Now let's talk about Just-for-U, their online coupon/discount service. While it might seem like a good idea to save some money, there have been multiple occasions where the following happens: 1. The product is on-sale in the app/online, but rings up at a more expensive price. 2. The product listed as being on-sale is just not available at this store. It's a weird smaller or larger size, for example, of a product they normally carry. And of course, whenever I'm not charged correctly, it's a big hassle to have them reverse it. How many people are getting scammed by this store who don't check their receipts diligently? It's a big headache of a system that only seems to really benefit Safeway. Here's an idea: get rid of the sales and gimmicks and just lower your prices on everything, across the board. Finally, let's talk about customer service. This location is dismal. I mean, truly bad. Very few workers give a damn, and it's obvious they want to be anywhere else but working there. They're constantly chit-chatting with each other, and when they do finally help you, it seems like you're seriously inconveniencing them. The absolute worst is the self-checkout area. I can't count the amount of times I've had a problem with the checkout and the person staffing the area is nowhere in sight. Hello?! You're always supposed to have someone there. And when there is someone there, more often than not, they're anywhere from indifferent to downright rude. I had this one woman come over to fix an issue I was having and she didn't greet me, didn't say sorry for the inconvenience, just tapped on the screen really quickly and forgot to exit out of the system correctly so I'm standing there looking like a goober while it's still in the employee-only mode. It was like she couldn't wait to get done with the minor amount of work I was having her do and go back to chit-chatting with her co-workers. This place needs some secret shopping going on and upper management needs to clean house badly. What's the deal? Are these people union? I am guessing they are. Why in the world is it so hard to get people who give two shits about the customer experience here? You guys charge enough for the products that I can't imagine you don't have the money to pay decent people. Last night was the forth or fifth time I have purchased an expired item in the store. I made a complaint 12 hours earlier about expired cashew yogurt that was 3 days past expiration and it was still on their shelves 12 hours later. I made the mistake of purchasing carrot juice (without preservatives) that I forgot to check and it is several days expired and I have diarrhea. I notified food safety and hopefully something will be done about this. As a microbiologist myself, I find this appalling and very unsafe for the consumer. read more

I am so glad that this is my neighborhood Safeway. The cashiers are friendly and usually fast. The manager is accessible and approachable. They usually have very good staffing levels for better service. The store is clean and well maintained. The bakery staff is friendly and helpful. The deli staff is okay, not very engaging, but usually quick. I don't really like that they have self checkout. I think I'd feel better knowing that someone could be working in their place. The Starbucks is quick and knowledgeable. The meats and floral are well stocked. The associates in produce will greet you and help you find what you're looking for. The wine department is well organised and easy to navigate. The service at this location is better than at almost any other location I've visited in the bay area. read more

I am a avid customer at this location. I work nights and sometimes graveyard. Usually the staff is amazing but wensday morning about 7:30 I came in for food and mirmosas, granted I just got off work at 6am...they carded me which is no big deal but my license was expired. I said I'm 43 and have a extension, would you like to see it? It just was expired on my birthday. The women were rude and completely impossible to talk to. I'm almost 44 and come here every day..come on..it was a control issue and just mean. You lost a good customer. read more

I came in for $5 Fridays and received the most terrible customer service. I had an issue with the Safeway app and the cashier appeared unhelpful & rude!!..When asked for a manager this guy shows up without acknowledging us and when asked his name he said "RON"..He wasn't helpful either. When placing the complaint his response was "WERE BUSY"!!..These people need to learn customer serive. Im not sure if its because I am an AFRICAN AMERICAN but appears a bit racist to me. I noticed when a CAUCASIAN woman wanted help the cashier was willing to help her!!!..I never complain but this behavior need to stop. Safeway is not safe for the disabled nor Elderly!!! On October 25, 2017, I attempted to shop at the Tassajara Safeway with my disabled mother. This Safeway did not have the weekly sales flyers. We could not move easily in the cluttered aisles. After not finding sales tags for items we purposely came to buy, we decided to leave. Mom was pushing a cart that did not permit her to exit the store. Since there was no sign indicating that there was any locking mechanism, Mom pushed the cart harder, and the cart struck her in the chest painfully upon its rebound. Minutes later, Mom's crown fell out of her mouth. After speaking with management, excuses and an empty apology followed. We were not offered anything for our trouble, but asked if we had an attorney.
