I love Safeway! I've shopped there for many years and enjoy the great customer service. Recently I went to purchase oysters from the meat department. Jason was amazing. He took his time to listen to what I was wanting and then not only packaged the oysters but also the ice to pack it in once I get to the car. I accidentally order more than I planned and he was so kind to go back to the meat counter and repack a smaller amount. Truly a kind person with great customer service skills. Several years have gone by and this store is even worse than my last review. The produce area is a disgrace. Over priced alot of spoiled or wilted product. Choices are very limited as well and everything costs 2 to 5 times what you can get it for at WinCo or sprouts Only reason why I go back is there's a couple products only have but I'm about to get into the alternative brands. Lines continue to be horrendous they force you to use self checkout but half the stations are off line and I have yet to see one transaction a clerk didn't have to fix. They use our free labor and their prices are obscene. Was gonna make some quick hotdogs tonight but after I added everything up it worked out to more than $4 a hot dog. I u de stand things are more important expensive but Safeway is price gouging now. Raleys and Bel-Air were always more expensive but no more in the last ng run. Produce in raleys and Bel-Air is the excellent . The premade food is also a lot better as well as the cleanliness and staff Based on quality freshness overall value and length of time in line.... Safeway is the loser and the rip off they won't make it out of this recession intact. This nasty greedy anti customer service store is past it's prime for sure I recommend Raleys Bel-Air sprouts over Safeway and for real value go to WinCo and a Walmart Superstore. You expect less of an atmosphere from them but their quality is excellent and even the build and offbrand is great. read more

If I could give 0 stars I would. Placed an order for grocery delivery and was able to select same day for 7-9pm. 1030pm and no groceries. Talked to online customer service and was told they're not sure why the store wasn't able to send delivery out. Tried my chances and had groceries redelivered. Was told it would arrive 4-6pm. It is now 745pm and customer service says again not sure why order was not fulfilled and then I call the store and of course the department who handles online orders is gone for the day. On top of that, they won't give you your refund for groceries never received until 5-7 business days. Can you imagine if you lived paycheck to paycheck? Lesson learned - get groceries anywhere else but Safeway, especially at this store. It's sad because Safeway used to have better service than this. **Update: Received a call yesterday from someone at the store who left a msg asking if I got my groceries. What a sh*t show if they can't even confirm if groceries were delivered or are just there sitting in their store? I called them back today and got a "I'll check with DoorDash why the ball was dropped" when clearly this department has no clue what's going on. Got confirmation we'll get refunded in 24-48 hours. So basically that's still 5 days from date when we should've gotten the items we ordered. Do yourself a favor - go somewhere else or use another delivery service that knows how to own it and holds themselves accountable. **Was told to send them a private message. 6/2/24 @ 8:12 pm Checked out with Stanley. He said the chips we were buying were $1.00 more because we didn't clip the coupon. So we clipped everything. He looked at the phone and said, "That's not even the site." So we showed him the phone, everything was clipped. This guy wasn't helpful at all because he said he would have to rescan all of the items again if we used the clipped coupon. He said, "It's only a dollar." We are thinking we should go back to the Safeway on 8377 Elk Grove Florin Rd in Elk Grove, CA. The people there are nicer and helpful. Never again! We put the chips back. I genuinely love shopping at this store. Have been going to this location over the last 5 years and have seen the decline. I used to find the produce and selections of various products to be great. However, lately when I go I've found mold on the produce, (not just a few, but a lot) and this has turned me off. I've seen molded spinach, tomatoes, strawberries, bags of lettuce that were brown. Just disappointing. So I pretty much get pantry, refrigerated or frozen items only and then go across the street to Bel Air for produce. I really hope the store manager reads this so they can get whoever is in control of inventory to watch the dates and quality of the products that are put out. I give this place four stars because the staff is always friendly and I've never had any issues other than the produce. Every once in awhile there are people who try to steal from this store, which is sad and drives the cost of items up. I ordered a Thanksgiving dinner from the store on Laguna & Franklin in Elk Grove. It was for a family in need. I pre- ordered well in advance. The clerk didn't even ask my name. She just went into the walk-in and brought out a tiny turkey and a box of sides.Turkey was smaller than expected. You could drink the mashed potatoes! The green bean dish was missing, as well. If I could give 0 stars here I would. You don't hang up the phone on customers. I spend between $700 and $1000 here per month on groceries and cleaning supplies and home items. I have been using delivery with the fresh pass for a while now due to surgery and health reasons. The driver left the groceries across the complex today at a different apartment didn't call or text and left a photo evidence of my groceries being left at a different address than mine. I love Safeway stores, in general, but I will rarely IF EVER go to this location again. First of all, the customer service is HORRIBLE. How does a cashier not say ONE WORD to a customer? Like literally, ZERO of the words were said. No hello, no total, no thank you, nada. He is one of the hardest working people on staff running from one self check station to another. I was in the area and decided to get five donuts from the bakery area, I ate one and was fine, but as I was going to share half with my child, I seen that there was larvae coming from the donut, so we tossed the rest of them. I have already had issues with trusting Safeway in terms of receiving expired and damaged products when I use pick up but now I can't even trust their fresh products when I decide to shop in store, probably never coming here again. I bought a mayonnaise jar and found maggots under the lid. I returned it to a manager. 2 days later, the exact same jar was back on the shelf. I had marked the jar just bc I thought they might do that. I was right. Another time: I had an issue with them following the mandates early in 2020. I truly love the competitive pricing and spend a good amount of money grocery shopping each week. Most service people are helpful, though recently I have had a few issues which lead me to write this review. After searching for a good 5 minutes, I inquired where the emery boards were located and was directed to "Isle 6." (Note: Not Shown, rather told). After searching again with no luck, I returned to the same Checker who was standing at self check out, and once again asked where I could locate them. THIS time she said, "Oh, they're probably locked up in the case." (Obviously I needed an employee with the proper key to assist me)! Before Covid, we were asked to bring our own bags or pay a fee for Safeway bags. Of course I obliged as I want to do my part and support this law recently passed in California. The checkers continued to bag my purchases for me. Even though Covid seems a bit more controlled (and I have been Vaxxed) it seems Safeway has a policy if you bring your own bags, you MUST bag your items. This just makes no sense! I am helping the effort by supplying my bags yet I am being punished to either purchase theirs OR bag my own! (I want to share that a very cordial Checker bagged my items for me a couple weeks ago without me asking. I Guess I was holding up the line with my poor bagging skills. We usually go the Raley's across the street, as it's always been fine. Over the years, we'll check back in with Safeway annually to see if it's improved at all. In short, it hasn't. Historically, the meat we'd pick up there would either already be sour, or turn within 24 hours. We haven't picked up meat from here in a long time, but the other thing that is still the same is the wait to check out. It's ridiculous. The aisles were literally filled with people waiting to check out, and generally went against the "one-way" direction used for COVID. There were at least a dozen people in line for both check stands, and they never called for another checker. With distancing, the lines consumed two whole aisles. And that seems to be the main gripe for us, besides the frequency of bad meat. Expect to wait 10-15 minutes to check out for what seems to be no reason at all. Lots of empty check stands. Can't think of a time I've needed to wait more than a couple minutes to check out across the street. read more

I bought a bag of Persians on Monday (yesterday) today they are all bad I checked the package date when I grabbed and it said 2/18/21 but today when getting ready to use them they are molded and the package date has another label on top of it. Safeway is my local store and I've been coming here for years. But I've just about had it with the wait times. They are always always understaffed, and employees agree when I ask them that they need more help. There are usually two check stands open, maybe three on packed holiday weekends, and there's even a long line for self-checkout. And most of the time there is one bagger. The produce and general grocery selection are decent for the price - Bel Air across the street is much more expensive. The meat selection is good and the deli is great, though service is usually slow. But if I'm in any kind of hurry I go across the street. read more

This is my absolute FAVORITE place to shop, it's a one stop shop for my family. We shop here so often, I find myself helping customers find items in the isles because I'm so familiar with the store. My very favorite part of the store is the bakery and the floral department, these to sections have saved my forgetfulness of birthdays more than I like to admit. The flowers stay fresh for what seems like forever!!! The employees that work here are like family, they know me and my family by first name and always go over and beyond to make us feel appreciated and down right special... in fact, my favorite courtesy clerk in the world, Monique works here. Why even offer online orders for delivery or pickup? The online account for ordering is horrible. You do not have a list of what was placed on your order, there is no way of tracking your order, and when you call for status no one seems to be able to assist you. You don't get any confirmation that the order is at least canceled, shipped, or ready for pickup. But yet, it tells you not to go in until you get a confirmation number. Which I will not waste my time going and waiting only for someone to later tell me some BS. It's just very disappointing and such a waste of my time and effort. So why I'm so not happy? I did not get my orders nor order status updates...it's been 3-4 days already when it was "supposed" to ship. I will not be ordering or shopping with Safeway ever again. Been coming here for over 15 years, finally stopped and won't be back for several reasons. #1) Staffing seems to be a problem everywhere, I get that, but when the cashiers ask me to bag my own groceries and a manager walks by and tells me how to open the bag properly so I can put my over-priced groceries in said bag, that's a big no-no in my book. I can do that at Winco or Foods Co for half the money. #2) They false advertise ALL THE TIME. They will claim items in their weekly ad and you get there and no such item exists. Now, once again, pandemic supply chain issues are everywhere, but here's an example of this ridiculous store's ineptitude: Last week they had advertised lamb chops for $6.99/lb. I go there on Saturday, NO LAMB except for one pack that had practically expired (it was grey and turned) and it was $14.99/lb. When I asked the useless butchers about it, they tell me "No, we don't have any lamb and we don't know anything about the prices"...now this is crap because it's on the new circular, so at least act like you care about your job. This has happened several times and this is one example of blatent false-advertising when you lure a customer into a store with ads that you don't have or don't honor. #3) A week prior I had gone to the deli at 1230 pm. No fried chicken or any real foods in the case. When I asked they called a girl who was in the back on her break. I knew this because when she walked out of the little back room she stated "I'm on my break" and was actually rude about it. So no, I'm not going to come back in a hour or two when you get done having a break at noon and decide to do what your dumb ass gets paid for. This place is lost. It's way over-priced and any reason to pay higher prices by having a decent shopping experience is gone. If i wanted false advertising or having a manager walk by and tell me how to bag my groceries I can find that non-service elsewhere. Where is the ZERO star rating button?!?!?! Here we go again, here's the complaint letter I just sent to Safeway. Dear Safeway, On the evening of August 29, 2011, I was at the Safeway store on Laguna Blvd in Elk Grove, CA. I had $15 (after club card savings applied) worth of frozen foods and wanted to use the $5 off $15 Frozen Foods coupon that I had and the cashier (I believe she might be a head clerk or supervisor),named Kashmere (Cashmere?), very rudely informed me that I must first surrender all the manufacturer's coupons I had in my hand and that those are to be scanned and deducted first before she can use the $5/$15 Frozen Foods coupon. Of course after she scanned my manufacturer's coupons (I had five total, $1 each), my subtotal was less than the $15 threshold required. At this point, she made me add more items to the total in order to use that coupon. I tried to explained to her that manufacturer's coupons are a form of legal tender/payment since Safeway gets reimbursement from manufacturer's when Safeway redeems those coupons, same as cash or food stamps. I started to ask her whether she would ask a person to hand over the cash they plan to pay with first and then see if they are still at the $15 threshold? She would not hear me out, she interrupted me immediately, not allowing me to finish my sentence. She very, very, very rudely said, "Do not argue with me, I know I am right." These were her words verbatim. I was completely floored by how rude she was. Her tone of voice and demeanor were condescending, disrespectful, and extremely curt. It was simply her way or the highway. I was extremely offended. As an educated individual with a graduate degree, I expect to be treated with dignity and respect, just as I treat others with dignity and respect. I have never ever been treated so rudely by anyone except for another incident at this same Safeway store. This is the only Safeway store where I consistently have problems using coupons and where if my out of pocket payment total is low, due to paying a large portion of the total with manufacturer's coupons, that I am immediately treated with contempt and stripped of any dignity I feel I deserved as a customer and as a person. Kashmere was extremely condescending and I would not tolerate such poor customer "service." In fact, I have only received customer disservice from her as well as another cashier, Donna, who also profiles me as did Kashmere because they know I use lots of Safeway store coupons and manufacturer's coupons. I am again disappointed by the very negative attitude that Kashmere exhibited which was unbelievably impolite that my husband, who was also present, and I were simply dumbfounded by Kashmere's behavior, tone of voice, attitude, and general demeanor. Please see the link I found for your store's coupon policy and Policy #12, which very clearly states that any minimum thresholds for a discount such as this Frozen Foods $5 off $15 will have been met after Club card discounts are applied and BEFORE manufacturer's coupons are deducted. Clearly, Kashmere needs remedial training in customer service as well as Safeway's coupon policy. I would appreciate a quick response to my comments to you today as well as would like to speak with the District Manager, whom I have spoken to previously about the extremely poor customer service and negative shopping environment at this Safeway Store on Laguna Blvd in Elk Grove, CA. This is an on-going problem that apparently has not been resolved. I rarely shop at this store now as I have gotten frustrated and worn out from this kind of treatment. It's anxiety ridden every time I want to go to this Safeway to shop. I never feel the same when going to Bel-Air across the street from this Safeway, or to any other supermarket in Elk Grove. It is preposterous that Kashmere is allowed to be a lead cashier or some kind of supervisor at Safeway as well as that she can treat customers so poorly when she should be setting an example for other cashiers and her subordinates in customer service, when ironically, she is doing the exact opposite. I work in an office of over 200 people and I plan to let everyone I know to not to shop at this Safeway. Many of my coworkers live in Elk Grove and I will let them know not to patronize a store that profiles and discriminates people who are savvy shoppers and use store and manufacturer's coupons. This place is ridiculous!!! Don't even waste your time!!! To begin with they are extremely cheap and laid off all of their home delivery drivers which is pretty pointless!!! They didn't only lay off all of their drivers but they didn't back fill behind them. So if you order groceries to even pickup you will be waiting forever!!! I waited for over two hours to pickup our order while the guy was pulling it and it still wasn't right!!! This guy left off two pages of groceries ($70) and claimed our order was right!!!
